• Which databases support parallel processing across multiple servers?

  I need a database engine that can utilize multiple servers for processing a single SQL query in parallel. So far I know that this is possible with the some engines, though none of them are feasible for me either because of pricing or missing features. The engines currently known to me are: MS SQL (enterprise) DB2 (enterprise) Oracle (enterprise) GridSQL Greenplum Which other engines have this feature? Do you have any experience with using this feature? Edit: I have now proposed a method for creating one myself. Any input is welcome. • Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime error when viewing JPEG files in Explorer

  I am getting the following error each time I view JPG files in the windows explorer in Detailed view. Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library Assertion failed! Program: C:\Windows\Explorer.EXE File: multimedia\photos\metadatahandler\util.cpp Line: 4706 Expression: MinutesFraction < 1.0 For information on how your program can cause an assertion failure, see the Visual C++ documentation on asserts (Press Retry to debug the application - JIT must be enabled) These pictures were taken from a Nikon Coolpix AW110 camera. I think it is related to some EXIF data that is a date/time. I have tried reinstalling the Visual C++ 2013 and 2008 Run time library and restarting and the problem is still there. • Juniper SRX1400 VPN

  I have been trying to set up a client VPN on a Juniper SRX1400 without much success. All documentation I found from Juniper and elsewhere does a lot of other (difficult and wonderful) things other than the simple things I want to do. We already have a VPN running on CISCO PIX hardware which we need to put to rest and we pretty much like to replicate the functionality, which is: 1) client makes a request to the outside interface of the SRX1400, 2) client gets authenticated, 3) if successful, then client is assigned all the usual DHCP stuff and becomes part of the network. What privileges this DHCP assigned network has, should be configurable of course with the usual routing/filtering methods. Am I asking for too much from the SRX for this kind of thing? Should I ditch the SRX for VPN and revert to an OpenVPN solution that I had working some time back also and was amazed at the ease of configuration, functionality and features?

So far I got Secure workspace - so nothing gets stolen and people cant come up to us asking for support (they need a ticket from the helpdesk) Quite area - so that we can work and not be disturbed by the loud project managers who play soccer in the office sometimes.   Here is the scenario: I have a number of remote employees around the globe. I want to have a video chatting session. No problem there. Halfway through, I want to shut off all camera video feeds and simulcast (synchronous) a training video to my team. How do I do this? We have tried office communicator, but the frame rate was awful and no audio. Adobe Connect had similar trouble. In both cases we were limited by the main office's small internet pipe, but it is clear that video delivered by shared desktop is not a good solution.

There is no real suppported way to use HTTP POST and HTTP GET because of the web.config settings and the static definition of the WSDL. • How do I configure tinydns (with fefe's IPv6 patch) to listen on IPv6 address?

  I'm setting up my network to support IPv6. I have static IPv6 addresses assigned to each interface of my router, and radvd advertising different prefixes on each interface. The next step would be to get my dnscache (from djbdns) working on IPv6. Said dnscache has fefe's IPv6 patch applied, so I assume it should work with IPv6. However, I can't find any documentation online on how to make the patched dnscache listen on IPv6. How do I configure tinydns and dnscache to listen on IPv6 too?

• Intraforest user account merge with Active Directory

  I have a scenario where there is a root domain (RD) and two child domains (CD1 and CD2). Users have accounts on both CD1 and CD2, with identical samAccountNames, names etc, and various applications either use the CD1 or CD2 account for authentication to resources. I need to collapse CD2 into CD1, so I want to merge the accounts together. However ADMT does not allow me this option (merge options are greyed out), I think because it does not support intraforest merge of accounts (although it does not explicitly state this anywhere in the documentation). My question is - what is the easiest way for me to merge these accounts? Ultimately all I really need (I think) is for the SID of CD2\user1 to be added to the SIDHistory of CD1\user1 - is there a tool that supports this? Computer accounts and profiles are not a concern for this scenario. Group migration is unlikely to be an issue either - CD2\user1 is usually granted resource access through membership of a group on CD1.

• Ubuntu 11.04 and OpenLDAP - where is the config?

  I've been asked to setup a multimaster LDAP environment on Ubuntu 11.04 - instead of a single master server. I cloned the master server and recreated it into two VMs. I am trying to follow the instructions on the OpenLDAP documentation here: http://www.openldap.org/doc/admin24/replication.html and it talks about modifying the cn=config tree within LDAP. The subdirectory tree appears to be there at: /etc/ldap/slapd.d/ and a slapcat -b cn=config drops out a load of config information. When I try to connect using a browser and the admin bind credentials: ldapsearch -D '<adminDN>' -w <password> -b 'cn=config' I get: # extended LDIF # # LDAPv3 # base <> (default) with scope subtree # filter: (objectclass=*) # requesting: ALL # # search result search: 2 result: 32 No such object I don't see the config context when I connect via an LDAP browser either. I'm sure I'm missing something, but I can't see what it is!

• Is Dell's server software bundle necessary? (Poweredge 2950 in my case)

  Hi all, Dell includes a fair amount of software with its servers, but I'm having a hard time determining from the documentation what each of them does, and whether or not I should install it. Dell's support site (unless I'm doing it wrong) seems fairly opaque to me and its offerings fairly unstandardized in terms of their usage, so if possible I'd like to stray away from them. Specifically, I'm curious if any of the features offered are duplicated in something like Microsoft System Center. For additional background information, I'm working with a Poweredge 2950 that was just rebuilt with an expanded raid-6, but initially I just installed Server 2008 R2 directly instead of using the Build and Update utility. There's nothing of use on it at the moment so I'm totally open to wiping it again.

  It's possible change flash settings on your computer at this URL: http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/settings_manager03.html However, given that Macromedia has no problems setting LSO cookies on your HDD that you cannot find, I am a little bit skeptical that the settings I've tweaked there would be saved. So, I'd like to be able to look locally on my PC and verify the settings. Where can I find the settings for Flash locally? Surely the plugin cannot be heading to Macromedia itself for them (that is a future too bleak to contemplate). I am running Ubuntu 10.04. Thanks, Joe

• Kerberos: Running an app with a parameter using krenew

  I need to run an application with krenew, but the application also needs to receive a parameter via command line and I need to send its output to a file. From the documentation, it looks like this should do the trick: krenew -t -- sh -c 'compute-job > /afs/local/data/output' but, unfortunately, when I run the command below: krenew -s -- sh -c './my_app config.xml > results/test.txt &' the application just dies after a while and I can see from the output of ps aux that krenew is not running along with my_app. I am not sure what the parameter -t does, and as far as I can see, if I run krenew -s ./my_app, it works properly. I hope someone can clarify this.

  What is the proper line-ending preferences for an open-source web project? Obviously it includes source code of PHP, HTML, CSS and Javascript. The source code is managing via Github now, and there are Windows (8 & 7), Linux (Ubuntu) and OSX developers inside the team, which means all the major operating systems. P.S. We are using "Windows" CRLF line-ending, plus "UTF-8 without BOM" right now, without facing any problem, however I think it might be better to use "*nix/OSX" LF style. I heard some stories about the problems that caused by the additional "CR" on Linux or OS X.

• System information shown when booting Debian

  When booting Debian, you'll see it printing a lot of information about the system variables and such. I don't really need to see all that, so I'd like to modify some scripts to make sure that on boot, it just does what it has to do, without printing it on the screen. Just something I fancy. Offcourse, still seeing errors would be nice. But that long slur of text, I could do without. I've tried looking it up, but I can't find documentation on this specific thing anywhere.

• How to fix poor rendering in Windows Movie Maker?

  I am using CamStudio to make some instructional videos about Visual Studio for our development team, and one of the videos needed some editing to remove audio and video mistakes and to add in a better ending. CamStudio outputs to .avi files, and they look pretty good, with the program source code being quite readable. However, after making the edits using WMM, it has rendered the results to a noticeable loss in quality. It has gone from from fairly sharp in focus and adequately readable to recognizable but somewhat blurred. It has also inflated the size of the new .avi file to three times its original size (before cropping half of the vido out!). And the .wmv I attempted to render was was certainly smaller but simply horrible-looking. The left image here is the original video, and the right image is WMM's rendering in .avi format: I have to be doing something wrong, but I know nothing about how to use WMM (my first use of it). I am using default settings to the best of my knowledge. Any suggestions welcomed!

For example, we try to provide a host specific 503 static response, or a server-wide fallback if it wasn't found: error_page 503 @error503; location @error503 { root /path_to_static_root/; try_files /$host/503.html /503.html =503; } There are a number of these directives, so it would be convenient to do something like: error_page 404 @error error_page 500 @error error_page 503 @error location @error { root /path_to_static_root/; try_files /$host/$status.html /$status.html =$status; } But the Variables documentation doesn't list anything that we could use to do this. Is it possible, or is there an alternative way to do this?

• Virtualizing OpenSolaris with physical disks

  I currently have a OpenSolaris installation with a ~1Tb RaidZ volume made up of 3 500Gb hard drives. This is on commodity hardware (ASUS NVIDIA based board on Intel Core 2). I'm wondering whether anyone knows if XenServer or Oracle VM can be used to install 2009.06 and get given physical access to the three SATA drives so that I can continue to use the zpool and be able to use the Xen bits for other areas. I'm thinking of installing the JeOS version of OpenSolaris, have it manage just my ZFS volume and some other stuff for work(4GB), then have a Windows(2GB) and Linux(1GB) VM (theres 8Gb RAM on that box) virtualised for testing things. Currently I am using VirtualBox installed on OpenSolaris for the Windows and Linux testing but wondered if the above was a better alternative. Essentially, 3 Disks - OpenSolaris Guest VM, it loads the zpool and offers it to the other VMs via CIFS.

  Hello, I am new to colocation. I am looking for a good place to host my server that would have around 5-10 Source Servers (Team Fortress 2). I am looking at maybe around 90 players at a time for now, players coming from all over the United States Could I get more info on what I am suppose to look for exactly? Would it be correct for me to get a 100Mb/s line and does 100Mb/s line in the following example actually be 100Mb/s upload bandwidth? I do not want to have to ever worry about going over some bandwidth limit or any DDOS attacks killing me.   I've read the documentation on scope, but I'm still having trouble working this out. I've got two environments that are very similar - so I've got: modules/django-env/manifests/init.pp class django-env { package { "python26": ensure => installed } # etc ... } import "er.pp" modules/django-env/manifests/er.pp $venvname = "er" $venvpath = "/home/django/virtualenvs" class er { file { "$venvpath/$venvname" : ensure => directory } # etc ... } class er-dev { include er } class er-bce-dev { $venvname = "er-bce" include er } manifests/modules.pp import "django-env" manifests/nodes.pp node default { # etc ... } node 'centos-dev' imports default { include django-env include er-bce-dev include er-dev } The result here is that the "inheritance" works - but only the first "er-" item under the 'centos-dev' node is acted upon, I either get er-bce-dev or er-dev, but not both. There must be some basic thing I'm misunderstanding here. Is it the difference between import and include ? (not sure I understand that)

• Suppress log messages about 3ware disk temperature changes on CentOS?

  I have a number of CentOS 5 servers which use 3ware RAID controllers. These servers are bugging my team with messages about minor temperature changes, like this: Jun 8 12:32:39 HOST smartd[1231]: Device: /dev/twa0 [3ware_disk_01], SMART Usage Attribute: 194 Temperature_Celsius changed from 119 to 118 Jun 8 12:32:39 HOST smartd[1231]: Device: /dev/twa0 [3ware_disk_03], SMART Usage Attribute: 194 Temperature_Celsius changed from 122 to 121 How can I suppress these messages? According to man smartd.conf : To disable any of the 3 reports, set the corresponding limit to 0. Trailing zero arguments may be omitted. By default, all temperature reports are disabled (´-W 0´). On my systems, smartd is reporting about temperature changes by default. I tried a manual approach. In /etc/smartd.conf, I have the following: /dev/twa0 -d 3ware,1 -a -W 0 /dev/twa0 -d 3ware,3 -a -W 0 But this still does not suppress the messages. Since these messages show up in /var/log/messages, LogWatch is sending unnecessary emails every night.

• HP Rapid Deployment - Change Data Store Path

  I am running HP Rapid Deployment (Altiris eXpress Deployment Server 6.9 - Build 164) on an inherited Windows Server 2003 SP2. I need to change the Data Store Path as the default is pointing to the C: drive and there is not enough space there. I would like to set it to the D: drive where there is plenty of space. Reading the documentation: Data store path: Specifies the path to stored packages and files and other DS functions (such as license verification). The default path is C:\Program files\Altiris\express\Deployment Server. Note: Do not use this setting to change the path to the Deployment Share. Modifying this setting does not automatically allow you to use another shared directory other than the express share. To change the Deployment Share shared directory, run a Custom install to establish another location for the Deployment Share. Is there any other way I can change the path as I do not have the install media?
