• I can't set a border around my StackPanel. Any help?

• How to use a linkedList and multiple classes with my Java GUI

  How should I use a linked list with my GUI program? The program is supposed to have blocks with textareas and dropdown menus. The number of blocks depends on the number of times the user presses a button. It's supposed to be possible to put blocks within blocks. I want to store the information created, using a linked list and then saving to a file. I'm thinking, for the sub blocks, there would be linked lists within the linked list. Should I use Java.util.LinkedList? How do I add the information? A Node class? Should that be in a separate file? I started to try sitting up a linked list, but it's getting me confused. I'm still unsure about how a person is supposed to make GUI's. I've only seen really simple GUI's. Can anyone tell me how I should arrange things? At the moment, I have three files, one for the main GUI window, one for the question blocks to be inserted within that, and one for some tools to use within those two files to make the code easier to understand. But, there seems to be something wrong with the question block file, because I've been making the background white for each JPanel, and there's a gray outline around the question blocks when I run the program. I probably shouldn't paste a ton of code here... • Drag/drop problem (draggable in position:relative parent)

  Here's the scenario, I'm using prototype and scriptaculous, but I believe jquery would have the same issue. I have a list draggable images in a relatively positioned div. The problem is I can't drag the images out of the parent div... well... you can, they're just not visible. If you remove the position:relative on the parent div, it works just fine, I can drag items out of the div perfectly. However because of this little IE7 bug: http://snook.ca/archives/html%5Fand%5Fcss/position%5Frelative%5Foverflow%5Fie/ that position:relative is required. IS there another work around to this bug that does not require setting position? I've tried playing with z-index and everything I can think of to no avail.   I am trying to understand why I have troubles creating a Bitmap from a byte array. I post this after a careful scrutiny of the existing posts about Bitmap creation from byte arrays, like the followings: Creating a bitmap from a byte[], Working with Image and Bitmap in c#?, C#: Bitmap Creation using bytes array My code is aimed to execute a filter on a digital image 8bppIndexed writing the pixel value on a byte [] buffer to be converted again (after some processing to manage gray levels) in a 8BppIndexed Bitmap My input image is a trivial image created by means of specific perl code: https://www.box.com/shared/zqt46c4pcvmxhc92i7ct Of course, after executing the filter the output image has lost the first and last rows and the first and last columns, due to the way the filter manage borders, so from the original 256 x 256 image i get a 254 x 254 image. Just to stay focused on the issue I have commented the code responsible for executing the filter so that the operation really performed is an obvious: ComputedPixel = InputImage.GetPixel(myColumn, myRow).R; I know, i should use lock and unlock but I prefer one headache one by one. • Embedded Jetty resourceBase classpath URL

  I'm embedding Jetty in a Spring based application. I configure my Jetty server in a Spring context file. The specific part of the configuration I'm having trouble with is this: <bean class="org.eclipse.jetty.webapp.WebAppContext"> <property name="contextPath" value="/" /> <property name="resourceBase" value="????????" /> <property name="parentLoaderPriority" value="true" /> </bean> If you see above, where I've put the ????????, I ideally want the resourceBase to reference a folder on my classpath. I'm deploying my application in a single executable JAR file and have a folder config/web/WEB-INF on my classpath. Jetty seems to be able to handle URLs defined in the resourceBase (e.g. jar:file:/myapp.jar!/config/web) but it doesn't seem to support classpath URLs. I get an IllegalArgumentException if I define something like classpath:config/web. This is a real pain for me. Does anyone know of anyway to achieve this functionality? Thanks, Andrew

  I need to transform a lot of XML files (Fedora export) into a different kind of XML. Trying to do it with XSL stylesheets and checking with the msxsl transformer. • UpdateModel not working consistently for me if a ddl gets hidden by jQuery

  Hi My jQuery code hides a ddl under certain circumstances. When this is the case, after submitting the form, using the UpdateModel doesn't seem to work consistently. Debugging seems to reveal that the correct value is passed in to the action method: public ActionResult Edit(IllnessDetail ill) And the correct value is put into sick in the following line: IllnessDetailFormViewModel mfv = new IllnessDetailFormViewModel(ill); However, when all is said, done and returned to the client, what displays is the value of: sick.IdInfectiousAgent instead of the value of: ill.IdInfectiousAgent The only reason I can think of is that the ddlInfectiousAgent has been hidden by jQuery. • .NET Splash screen issues

  I have a splash screen for my C# database application that is called via the Shown event. The splash screen contains some information that is preprocessed when the main form's constructor is called, hence why I'm using the Shown event, because that information should be available. However, when the splash screen is shown, the main form is whited out, and the menu bar, bottom menu bar, and even the gray background are all white and invisible. It looks like the program is hanging, but after the 5 second delay I have built in, the banner goes away and the program is shown normally. Also, on the banner, I have labels that are not shown when the splash screen displays... Here is my code, some reasoning behind why it isn't working would help greatly. SPLASH SCREEN CODE : public partial class StartupBanner : Form { public StartupBanner(int missingNum, int expiredNum) { InitializeComponent(); missingLabel.Text = missingNum.ToString() + " MISSING POLICIES"; expiredLabel.Text = expiredNum.ToString() + " EXPIRED POLICIES"; } } CALLING CODE : private void MainForm_Shown(object sender, EventArgs e) { StartupBanner startup = new StartupBanner(missingPoliciesNum, expiredPoliciesNum); startup.MdiParent = this; startup.Show(); Thread.Sleep(5000); startup.Close(); } Using startup.ShowDialog() shows the correct label information on the splash screen, but that locks up the application, and I need the splash to go away after about 5 seconds, which is why it's a splash. ;)

If I use the standard view for the table (the classic gray with titles set by titleForHeaderInSection:) everything is ok and the scrolling is smooth and immediate. I tried many ways to solve the problem, such as creating an array of all the necessary view: apart from more time spent loading at startup, there is a continuing problem of low reactivity of the table. 've Attempted by reducing the size of UIImageView positioned from about 66 KB to 4 KB: not only has a deterioration in quality of colors (which distorts a bit 'original graphics), but ... the problem persists! Perhaps you have suggestions about it, or know me obscure techniques that enable me to optimize this aspect of my application ... I apologize for my English, I used Google for translation.

• Z-index broken in IE8?

  Hi there This code works in every other browser I've tried, except IE8. IE8 appears to ignore the z-index - and the pop-up becomes a pop-under. • L10N: Trusted test data for Locale Specific Sorting

  I'm working on an internationalized database application that supports multiple locales in a single instance. When international users sort data in the applications built on top of the database, the database theoretically sorts the data using a collation appropriate to the locale associated with the data the user is viewing. I'm trying to find sorted lists of words that meet two criteria: the sorted order follows the collation rules for the locale the words listed will allow me to exercise most / all of the specific collation rules for the locale I'm having trouble finding such trusted test data. Are such sort-testing datasets currently available, and if so, what / where are they? "words.en.txt" is an example text file containing American English text: Andrew Brian Chris Zachary I am planning on loading the list of words into my database in randomized order, and checking to see if sorting the list conforms to the original input. Because I am not fluent in any language other than English, I do not know how to create sample datasets like the following sample one in French (call it "words.fr.txt"): cote côte coté côté The French prefer diacritical marks to be ordered right to left. • What is better in WPF for UI layout, using one Grid, or nested Grids.

  I am making a UI in WPF, I have a bunch of functional areas and I use a Grid to organize it. Now the Grid that I want is not uniform, as in, some functional area will span multiple cells in the Grid. I was wondering what the best practise is in solving this. Should I create one grid and then for each functional area set it to span multiple cells, or should I split it up into multiple nested Grids. In this image, the leftmost panel (panels separated by the gray bar) is what I want. The middle panel shows one grid where the blue lines are overlapped by a functional area. The rightmost panel shows how I could do it with nested grids. You can see the green grid has one horizontal split. In the bottom cell is the yellow Grid with a vertical split. In side the left cell is the red Grid with again a horizontal split. I was just wondering what is best practise, the middle or the right panel.

  I have Extjs ViewPort panel, that contain center panel, that contain tablpanel, in which I have added gridpanel in one tab, on this I have put 'Add Person' button in tbar of , that will add a new tab of a FormPanel, in its Reset button, I am not able to access Form to reset it. Do any body have faced same issue... please help how to get it working. • What is wrong with the JavaScript event handling in this example? (Using click() and hover() jQuery

  I'm working on a sort of proof-of-concept for a project that approximates Firebug's inspector tool. For more details, please see this related question. Here is the example page. I've only tested it in Firefox: http://troy.onespot.com/static/highlight.html The idea is that, when you're mousing over any element that can contain text, it should "highlight" with a light gray background to indicate the boundaries of that element. When you then click on the element, it should alert() a CSS selector that matches it. This is somewhat working in the example linked above. However, there's one fundamental problem. When mousing over from the top of the page to the bottom, it will pick up the paragraphs, <h1> element, etc. But, it doesn't get the <div>s that encompass those paragraphs. However, for example, if you "sneak up" on the <div> that contains the two paragraphs "The area was settled..." and "Austin was selected..." from the left - tracing down the left edge of the page and entering the <div> just between the two paragraphs (see this screenshot) - then it is picked up. I assume this has something to do with the fact that I haven't attached an event handler to the <body> element (where you're entering the <div> from if you enter from the left), but I have attached handlers to the <p>s (where you're entering from if you come from the top or bottom). There are also other issues with mousing in and out elements - background colors that "stick" and the like - that I think are also related. As indicated in the related question posted above, I suspect there is something about event bubbling that I don't understand that is causing unexpected behavior. Can anyone spot what's wrong with my code? Thanks in advance for any help!

• stop background of iphone webapp from responding to swipes

  I'm making a mobile version of my website, and trying to make it feel as native as possible on the iphone. However, any background areas of the page respond to swiping gestures such that you can shift the page partway off the screen. Specifically, if the user touches and swipes left, for example, the content shifts off the edge of the screen and one can see a gray background 'behind' the page. How can this be prevented? I'd like to have the page itself be 320x480 with scroll-swiping disabled (except on list elements that I choose). I have added the following meta tags to the top of the page: <meta name="viewport" content="width=320; height=480; initial-scale=1.0; maximum-scale=1.0; user-scalable=0;"/> <meta name="apple-mobile-web-app-capable" content="yes" /> <meta name="apple-mobile-web-app-status-bar-style" content="black" /> I've also tried the following as the event handler for the touchstart, touchmove, and touchend events of the body element: function cancelTouchEvent(e) { if (!e) var e = window.event; e.cancelBubble = true; if (e.stopPropagation) e.stopPropagation(); if (e.preventDefault) e.preventDefault(); return false; } It doesn't stop the swiping behavior, but does prevent clicks on all links on the page...   Hi All, I have a simple test page with a single styled button. I'm using a:hover when you hover over the button. However, when you click the button the a:hover style remains until I click on something else. How would I fix this and why is this happening? • How to dynamically load a progressive jpeg/jpg in actionscrip-3 using Flash and know it's width/heig

  Hi, I am trying to dynamically load a progressive jpeg using actionscript 3. To do so, I have created a class called Progressiveloader that creates a URLStream and uses it to streamload the progressive jpeg bytes into a byteArray. Everytime the byteArray grows, I use a Loader to loadBytes the byteArray. This works, to some extent, because if I addChild the Loader, I am able to see the jpeg as it is streamed, but I am unable to access the Loader's content and most importantly, I can not change the width and height of the Loader. After a lot of testing, I seem to have figured out the cause of the problem is that until the Loader has completely loaded the jpg, meaning until he actually sees the end byte of the jpg, he does not know the width and height and he does not create a content DisplayObject to be associated with the Loader's content. My question is, would there be a way to actually know the width and height of the jpeg before it is loaded? P.S.: I would believe this would be possible, because of the nature of a progressive jpeg, it is loaded to it's full size, but with less detail, so size should be known. Even when loading a normal jpeg in this way, the size is seen on screen, except the pixels which are not loaded yet are showing as gray. Thank You.

• Page content layout issues

  I'm designing a theme for a blog and I'm having some trouble trying to get a layout working. Here's an image of what I want. This diagram represents the individual posts and not the website itself, so it will be contained in a box of it's own, lets call it .container. Also the purple and green are in another box, let's call it .content. The other elements will be called by their color for now. so here's more or less what the CSS looks like: .container { display:block; margin:0 25px; } .gray, .blue, .content { display:block; width:100%; } .purple { display:inline-block; width:125px; height:100%; text-align:center; } .green { display:inline-block; } That's all there is at the moment. I tried float but that made no effect. What's happening is something like this. Here's a few more things you should know: .container's width is NOT set it is auto .purple and .green don't necessarily need to be the same size as long as .green doesn't go to that side. .purple CAN have a set height .green is where the meat is, that's where the actual post goes, keep that in mind. I don't think tables will help, the problem is inside .content.
