• Decrease DB requests number from Django templates

  I publish discount offers for my city. Offer models are passed to template ( ~15 offers per page). Every offer has lot of items(every item has FK to it's offer), thus i have to make huge number of DB request from template. {% for item in offer.1 %} {{item.descr}} {{item.start_date}} {{item.price|floatformat}} {%if not item.tax_included %}{%trans "Without taxes"%}{%endif%} <a href="{{item.offer.wwwlink}}" >{%trans "Buy now!"%}</a> </div> <div class="clear"></div> {% endfor %} So there are ~200-400 DB requests per page, that's abnormal i expect. In django code it is possible to use select_related to prepopulate needed values, how can i decrease number of requests in template?

• Linq insert statement inserts nothing, does not fail either

  I am trying to insert a new account in my Acccounts table with linq. I tried using the EntityModel and Linq2Sql. • How to find connected hosts at network (vpn or lan)

  Hello, I'm looking for possible solutions to the following need: I have a VPN configured (using openVPN over Linux, BTW), and I want to know at any moment which hosts are connected to it. I recognize that it probably is the same thing as trying to know which hosts are connected to a lan, so any of the solutions might do the job... The fact is that I once used a hamachi vpn on linux and with it I had the chance to know which hosts were connected to a particular network where I belonged, so I was wondering if something similar might be possible in openVPN (or even any VPN and/or any LAN). Preferably, I'm looking for opensource/free sw solutions, or maybe the hints to program it myself (in the most simple way if possible, not that I don't know how to program, but I'm trying to achieve this in a simple manner). • Geographical ontologies ready to use?

  Hi all, I'm looking for an ontology containing geographical knowledge. In particular I'd like to have these types of information: political states / regions / cities / city areas geographical regions (e.g. continents, name of mountains, lakes, etc) For example, starting from the node "New York" I'd like to be able to find parents like the New York state, the USA etc, and children like Manhattan, Bronx, etc. I couldn't find anything open-source/free to use. I know that a lot of researchers extract such information from Wikipedia, but I couldn't find any off-the-shelf packages to use. I also checked OpenStreetMap, which is great for the amount of data but doesn't seem to contain a proper geographical ontology. Even a web service would be good! Any hints? Mulone

After he returns the book, I delete that entry and I make another one entry in HISTORY table. Is this a good idea? Do I brake any rule? Should I have instead one single BORROWING table with a DATE_OF_RETURNING column?

  I am trying to create a "map of a city" using pygame. I want to be able to put images of buildings in specific grid coords rather than just filling them in with a color. I've tried some of the samples online but can't seem to get them to work. Any help is appreciated. If anyone have a good source for free sprites that I can use for pygame, please let me know.   I added a new query to a table adapter in a DataSet. This query adds another field to the query whcih is a sum from another table. Here is the full query: SELECT (SELECT COUNT(donationID) AS Expr1 FROM Donations AS da WHERE (dn.donorID = donorID)) AS Count, Solicitor, address1, address2, city, companyName, country, donorID, email, first, last, phoneHome, phoneMobile, phoneWork, state, webURL, zip, (select sum(amount) from Donations as dna where dna.donorID = dn.donorID) as SumDonations FROM Donors AS dn order by last The new field is represented in the last part of the query: (select sum(amount) from Donations as dna where dna.donorID = dn.donorID) as SumDonations I can preview the data in the xsd but the last field "SumDonations" is not showing up as a field I can add to my gridview. I rebuilt the website but no luck. What am I missing?

  I look after a number of divisional websites for a uk based membership organisation and what we want to do is provide, as well as other address functions, is a closest member lookup to a web user from the websites themselves. A few use cases that I want to fill: Case 1: The user puts in their post code and wants to see all the members in a 5/10/15/20/30/40 mile radius from them Case 2: The member puts in an area (city, county, etc.) and gets a list of members in that area. Essentially what I'm looking for is a programmable API which I can code against to do: post code lookup and returns addresses (after picking house number for example). search post code + radius (5miles, 10miles etc) and get a set of applicable post codes to then join onto the membership records in the database Any recommendations? It can be a quarterly update install on the server, it can be a queryable web service. I'm open to suggestions. Thanks in advance

  Ok, the title is a bit confusing, but here's my predicament. I've made a web app to track UPS packages internally at work. Currently, you input the tracking number and then select the city it was shipped from. All tracking numbers from an account start with the same X amount of numbers. So if someone entered "1Z8473..." into one input, "Houston, TX" would automatically be entered into the next input. Is this a difficult thing to pull off? Where would I begin?

The zip_code table has over 40k records and this might be the issue. It currently takes up to 15 seconds to return a list of about 20 items! What can I do to make this query more efficient?

  When designing a stock management database system (sales / purchases) what would be the best way to store the various taxes and other such amounts? A few of the fields that could be saved are: Unit price excluding tax Unit price including tax Tax per item Total excluding tax (rounded to 2 decimals) Total including tax (rounded to 2 decimals) Total tax (rounded to 2 decimals) Currently the most reasonable solution so far is storing down (roughly) item, quantity, total excluding tax (rounded) and the total tax (rounded). Can anyone suggest some better way of storing this details for a generic system? Also, given the system needs to be robust, what should be done if there were multiple tax values (eg: state and city) which might need to be separated, in this case a separate table would be in order, but would it be considered excessive to just have a rowID and some taxID mapping to a totalTax column?

  Hi, I am new to NHibernate and need some information regarding the internal working of the engine: I have a table called Student and the design is as follows: RollNo Name City Postcode and there are 5 more columns like this. I have School class and mappings associated with it. I am querying RollNo and Name using session as given below: IQuery query = session.CreateQuery("SELECT RollNo,Name FROM Student); Executing query.List resulting in error because the query is returning object[][]. Now, I changed the query as given below: IQuery query = session.CreateQuery("FROM Student); Executing query.List on this query yeilds the desired results. But, the results contain more data than I want. Could you please let me know the query to which I can get RollNo and Name from Student and castable as Student collection. Thanks, Mahesh

• Where is the iPhone's Date & Time getting it's time zone list

  I can get a list of time zones with [NSTimeZone knownTimeZoneNames], but that only gives the time zone IDs which include one or 2 cities in each time zone. The Date & Time settings has a great list of cities and I have seen a few other apps that have the same if not similar lookup lists. Where do these lists come from?? • Problem making ant compile my classes present in different Eclipse projects into single destination

  I have close to about 20 projects in my Eclipse workspace. They are interdependent. Now I want to build all of them in a single war file. The thing is eclipse does it nicely... if I create a Dynamic Web Project and link sources of all the 20 projects. But I want to automate the entire process and want to be able to run a script (ant maybe..) and deploy a war in my app server. My approach: I started with a simple approach. I tried to sequentially build each project (javac task) with destination directory as web-inf of my war. But it is giving me weird errors like : package " ** " not found,when it shows the same all the required classes in classpath (I used verbose) Do you think, a continous integration engine will be better for my case (20 projects..) I saw Team City, but didnt get it the first time...
