• Searching for a Kohana Beginner's Tutorial for PHP

  I am going to try to build a PHP website using a framework for the first time, and after some research here and there, I've decided to try to use Kohana I downloaded the source from their website, and ran the downloaded stuff on my web server, and was then greeted with a 'Welcome to Kohana!' page, and nothing more... I've tried to find some beginner tutorials on the web as regard this particular framework, but to my surprise, came up with almost nothing (only this one, but it's not a great deal of help) I am not new to PHP and neither am I new to the MVC concept, but I am very new to PHP Frameworks...so can anyone point me to a Kohana tutorial somewhere on the web that will help me get started in building my website using this framework, from scratch ? P.S. As I said, I want a beginners tutorial as regarding this case. [UPDATE] I am currently reading the Official Guide...we'll see how that goes.

• Accessing TFS from Powershell

  Hello I am new to PowerShell and I am trying to get branches from TFS and merge them using a PowerShell script. Unfortunately I am failing a first hurdle. I do have Visual Studio 2010 install on my local machine and can access the TFS server (also 2010) fine. I am running the script from my local machine and have the following lines: $tfs = get-tfs http://TFSServerName:8080/TFSProject $branchfolders = $tfs.VCS.GetItems('$/Dev/Branches/', $tfs.RecursionType::OneLevel) and I receive the following error on the second line 2 above Exception calling "GetItems" with "2" argument(s): "Unable to connect to the remote server" I have configured the TFS server to accept incoming connections on port 8080 which works but I am now not to sure how to resolve this error. Is further configuration required? Thanks for any help given.

• trying to decide between asp.net and jsp

  Hey Guys, I am wondering if anyone can shed some lights on the situation. I am about to start a project and trying to figure out what solution is best to go with asp.net or java jsp pages I have personally worked alot with .net and am really happy with the framework and Visual studio as IDE I find it easy to work with and there is a massive community support behind .net, i can get alot done quickly I have not every written anything use java jsp, there will be a learning curve here , so my experience is limited here. however after seeing jira i am very impressed with its capabilities, it has changed alot since the old days ( java 1.2 ) that i used to work with, and the fact that it runs under linux is a huge plus, so i am trying to decide is the learning curve, worth the price ? so given the situation above what would you recommended? The database schema for storing the message is as follows: StorageId int IDENTITY NOT NULL PRIMARY KEY, FolderName nvarchar(255) NOT NULL, MessageId nvarchar(3999) NOT NULL, MessageDate datetime NOT NULL, StorageData ntext NULL In the StorageData field I am going to store the MIME message as byte array. But the problem arises when I am going to implement search on the stored messages. I have no idea how I am going to index the messages on top of this schema. • accessing $_SESSION when using file_get_contents in PHP

  I am basic - intermediate developer using php and am a little stumped as to what I have found. I need some help in understanding how to alleviate this issue: I have a page called send.email.php which sends an email - pretty simple stuff - I pass an order id, it creates job request and sends it out. This works fine when used in the context I developed it (Use javascript to make an AJAX call to the URL and pass the order_id as a query parameter) I am now trying to reuse the exact same page in another application however I am calling it using php file_get_contents($base_url.'admin/send.email.php?order_id='.$order_id). When I call the page this way, the $_SESSION array is empty isempty() = 1. Is this because I am initiating a new session using file_get_contents and the values I stored in the $_SESSION on login are not available to me within there? Any help? Thanks

I am using IB to load the items and what not. the come I am using in the ViewController isnt working. :( I have it under the ViewDidLoad - (void)viewDidLoad { [scrollView setScrollEnabled:YES]; [scrollView setContentSize:CGSizeMake(768, 1300)]; } Whats wrong with it.   I am new to rails (usually a python guy) and have just been trying to build a simple task manager application for fun. I am using Devise for authentication and have a single Task object I am trying to relate to a user. I have added the following to the Task model: class Task < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :user end and I have added the following in my User model for Devise: class User < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :dreams <<normal Devise stuff>> end Whenever I added this information I then ran: rake db:migrate. It then gave me an error that the database field did not exist for user_id when I tried to do anything with it. I am sure it is something rather simple that I am missing. Thanks for the help.

  I am writing a bit of code to add a link tag to the head tag in the code behind... i.e. HtmlGenericControl css = new HtmlGenericControl("link"); css.Attributes["rel"] = "Stylesheet"; css.Attributes["type"] = "text/css"; css.Attributes["href"] = String.Format("/Assets/CSS/{0}", cssFile); to try and achieve something like... <link rel="Stylesheet" type="text/css" href="/CSS/Blah.css" /> I am using the HtmlGenericControl to achieve this... the issue I am having is that the control ultimatly gets rendered as... <link rel="Stylesheet" type="text/css" href="/CSS/Blah.css"></link> I cant seem to find what I am missing to not render the additional </link>, I assumed it should be a property on the object. Am I missing something or is this just not possible with this control? Thanks

• Jquery.form plugin and jquery.validation and it's submitHandler not working correctly... please help

  Hello guys, I was hoping someone can shed some light on what might be occurring on my page. Okay what I currently have on my page is a simple form that collects first name, last name, city, state and email. Once submitted it will hit a PHP page that updates our DB and echo's back to the designted div with a class of .response. I am using jquery.validation and placing that dynamic function within the submitHandler like so: submitHandler: function(form) { $(form).ajaxSubmit({ target: '.response', // target element(s) to be updated with server response resetForm: true, success: function() { $('#commentform').hide(); $('.response').show(); } }); So what I am getting is a div that is not being populated with the echo from my php file in FF and in IE I am getting the message of thank you but the page is taking me to the update.php script in which I have the form action pointing to.   I am testing a java web service(jax-ws),but whenever i am running the test i am getting response code as response message:Read timed out . But i am clue less because same web service i can access form an application.

• How can I make Delphi packages (create a .bpl file)?

  I want to create *.bpl file but I am failing to do so. Specifically, I am trying to make JEDI plugins, but I have tried an empty pure Delphi package, too. If I create a new package in Delphi XE3, I get an empty unit - if I "make" this project called "Package1.bpl", I get a .dcu file in "debug/win32/", but no .bpl file. No error is reported by the compiler. An empty JEDI plugin (bpl-style) only gives a .dcu, too, while an empty dll-style JEDI plugin gives a .cdu and a .dll file in "debug/win32/". This is the first time I am tryimg to make a new package, so I am completely lost. What am I missing? Pharaoh

• Getting the battery current values for the Android Phone

  I am trying to collect power usage statistics for the Android G1 Phone. I am interested in knowing the values of Voltage and Current, and then able to collect statistics as reported in this PDF. I am able to get the value of Battery voltage through registering for an intent receiver to receive the Broadcast for ACTION_BATTERY_CHANGED. But the problem is that Android does not expose the value of current through this SDK interface. One way I tried is via sysfs interface, where I can view the battery current value from adb shell, using the following command $cat /sys/class/power_supply/battery/batt_current 449 But that too works only if the phone is connected via USB interface. If I disconnect the phone, I see the value of batt_current as '0'. I am not sure why the value of current reported is zero. It should be more than zero, right? Any suggestion / pointers for getting battery current value? Also please correct me if I am wrong.

And also if the value is not selected am getting the first value id by using $("#cnty1").val(); So, please suggest me a solution so that, 1) I should get only the Selected value and 2) Value of the dropdown list Only if the user selects a value from the list, but don't get the value of the list without selecting.

  I have a ListView that is binded to my custom collection. At run time , I am updating the certain properties of my entity in my custom collection in my ViewModel. At the same time , I am also doing the custom sorting in the listview. The custom sorting is applicable when I click on the any column header of the listview. For example, I am updating the current datetime on my entity on every 5 seconds and simulaneously , I am applying custom sorting based on DateTime. (The Listview is third party control). Hence I am doing two operations on my custom collection at the same time. Should I pass the dispatcher of my control in the view model and call any methods ( which updates any entity in my custom collection ) through UI dispatcher ?

• How do I check if a swf file loaded correctly since put_Movie always returns S_OK?

  I am using the latest flash player and have a swf file served locally from my dev machine. In one container test app I am able to play the swf and make calls to it, but in my "Real" application the same code path results in com errors (basically it looks like the swf isn;' loading properly) Additionally this is made more challenging because no matter what nonsense I put in the call to put_Movie() the return is ALWAYS S_OK. This is confusing. How am I supposed to determine if the swf file loaded and is working? As a follow-on, what would cause a swf file (the same one) not to load in a different app? The code paths are the same (from what I can tell). Obviousl something is going on, but I am not sure what. So, I guess 2 questions How to know when swf file doesn't load right Why might it fail in a different container application? I am using ATL in Visual studio 2008, latest flash, MS Vista Thanks

• Slow insert speed in Postgresql memory tablespace

  Hi, I have a requirement where I need to store the records at rate of 10,000 records/sec into a database (with indexing on a few fields). Number of columns in one record is 25. I am doing a batch insert of 100,000 records in one transaction block. To improve the insertion rate, I changed the tablespace from disk to RAM.With that I am able to achieve only 5,000 inserts per second. I have also done the following tuning in the postgres config: Indexes : no fsync : false logging : disabled Other information: - Tablespace : RAM - Number of columns in one row : 25 (mostly integers) - CPU : 4 core, 2.5 GHz - RAM : 48 GB I am wondering why a single insert query is taking around 0.2 msec on average when database is not writing anything on disk (as I am using RAM based tablespace). Is there something I am doing wrong? Help appreciated. Prashant

• Backup & recovery of multiple MySQL databases (InnoDB & MyISAM)

  I am working on nightly and hourly backups of MySQL Databases. There are multiple MySQL databases which are either InnoDB or MyISAM (Note: Each database is either InnoDB or MyISAM for a reason). With the 2 different types I want to make sure I am grabbing everything that is needed for backup and recovery. Here is my current plan Nightly -mysqldump of each DB which is stored locally and remotely. Hourly -flush binary logs and store them locally and remotely. Weekly -expire binary logs older than a week. I feel like I am grabbing everything that is needed for the MyISAM databases but I am concerned about the InnoDB databases and the log files (ib_logfile0, ib_logfile1, ibdata1) they create. Should I backup these files? Nightly? Hourly? Both? Do I really need them if I am already doing the above nightly and hourly backups?

In the grid view I am having following code for columns <Columns> <asp:DynamicField DataField="UserId" UIHint="Label" /> <asp:DynamicField DataField="Address" UIHint="Address"/> <asp:DynamicField DataField="CreatedDate" UIHint="Label" /> </Columns> But, before displaying I want to do some processing in C# code for each row. In normal ASP.net grid view we can handle OnRowDataBound method, and using FindControl("controlid") we can get the control instance, but in case of dynamic data, I am not getting any id attribute for columns, so I am not able to get the control instance to show updated data in that control depending on some conditions.   I am new to node.js but am excited to try it out. I am using Express as a web framework, and Jade as a template engine. Both were easy to get setup following this tutorial from Node Camp. However the one problem I am finding is I can't find a simple tutorial for getting a DB set up. I am trying to build a basic chat application (store session and message). Does anyone know of a good tutorial? • Reversed Latitude/Longitude US Tiger/Line Shape File to MySQL w/ OGR2OGRP

  Hi - I've downloaded the latest set (2010) of TIGER edge shape files (ESRI shapefile format) from the US Census website and am loading them into MySQL using the GDAL ogr2ogr utility. A new table (geotest) does get created with a SHAPE column that has the geometry defined as a LINESTRING. However, I am seeing reversed latitude and longitude values that get reversed when running the following command: ogr2ogr -f "MySQL" MySQL:"geo,user=lejeuned,host=localhost,password=cnickl234" -nln geotest -nlt LINESTRING -append -a_srs "EPSG:4326" -lco engine=MYISAM tl_2010_01021_edges.shp Mapping the latitude/longitude (after reversing them of course) they appear to be spot on so I suspect there is just something I am doing wrong or flag I am missing which is causing the latitude and longitudes to be transposed. When I select the SHAPE column using astext() I get the following result: LINESTRING(-86.69863 32.973164,-86.69853 32.97302,-86.69856 32.97287,-86.698613 32.972825,-86.6988 32.972825,-86.6989 32.972892,-86.6989 32.973002,-86.69874 32.97316,-86.69864 32.97318,-86.69863 32.973164) Any ideas what I am doing wrong?

  I am looking at some pointers on how to design a wrapper for these social networking sites. Ideally what I want to do is create a black box where I am able to create an interface for other libraries to call certain functions to interact with these social networking sites. I am planning on using oAuth for most of these sites, I already have this layer designed in PHP. The other layer that I need for these social sites is the ability to push and pull content. For example, the ability to pull feeds for users from each of these networks and then should I cache them on my end? how would I cache all twitter, facebook etc activity feed and be able to account for resync etc? The networks that I am looking at are: Twitter Youtube Facebook LinkedIN Vimeo Flickr I am looking for ideas on how to tackle this in php? Any suggestions, opensource systems that I can learn from?
