  • Cocoa-Touch framework for speaking to a TCP socket?

    I have a daemon running on a server that's latched onto a TCP/IP port. I'm looking to see if there's currently any support iPhone/Cocoa-touch frameworks that gives a nice OO wrapper for speaking to the daemon over an IP socket. I need to be able to interactively query the daemon with commands and retrieve back information. If there isn't any OO wrappers for such a task, what's the next best bet?

  • iPhone and Vertex Buffer Objects

    I've just started playing around with opengl es on the iphone the past couple of weeks and i'm looking at refactoring some of my code to use Vertex Buffer Objects(VBO). Before I do though I would like to make sure it'll be worth it. The problem is that afaik the only reason you create VBO's is to shift a chunk of data onto the graphics card so that it doesn't need to be retrieved from system ram when it's used. The iPhone however does not have any dedicated ram that I'm aware of so i'm struggling to see why I would benefit at all from using VBO's. I have seen talk around the internet with conflicting opinions and apple certainly want dev's to use it so there's probably still a reason to use them but just wanted to see if anyone on SO had an opinion to add.

  • NSStrings, C strings, pathnames and encodings in iPhone

    I am using libxml2 in my iPhone app. I have an NSString that holds the pathname to an XML file. The pathname may include non-ASCII characters. I want to get a C string representation of the NSString for to pass to xmlReadFile(). It appears that cStringUsingEncoding gives me the representation I seek. I am not clear on which encoding to use. I wonder if there is a "default" encoding in iPhone OS that I can use here and ensure that I can roundtrip non-ASCII pathnames.

  • googlemap zoom in iphone application

    Hi all, i have a problem in iphone application that i have integrated google map and i am calculating center runtime so that the map shows both points on the iphone screen, the alogrithm applied (thanks to stackover flow) is working fine in case of 2 locations very far from each other. But it is not working for near locations and the zoom level goes too much that it is not able to show any images of those two near locations, so i want to put a check that if the location are very near to each other OR the google is not able to show the maps of the locations then it choose the default zoom level so that it shows the map on the screen instead of blank / black screen.     I'm making a universal iPad/iPhone app which can use the iPad's VGA out connector to mirror the content of the app on an external screen. However, the iPhone does not have this functionality. given the following code, [[NSNotificationCenter defaultCenter] addObserver:self selector:@selector(screenInfoNotificationReceieved:) name:UIScreenDidConnectNotification object:nil]; [[NSNotificationCenter defaultCenter] addObserver:self selector:@selector(screenInfoNotificationReceieved:) name:UIScreenDidDisconnectNotification object:nil]; I get this error on the phone at launch (works fine in ipad) "dyld: Symbol not found: _UIScreenDidConnectNotification" presumably because UIScreenDidConnectNotification doesnt' exist yet in 3.13. How do I check for this at runtime?

    I'm developing a web app and testing on my iPhone 5 running iOS6. The app was running as a home screen app and during use requested access to the camera roll on the phone which I allowed, this has added a toggle in settings privacy photos on the phone for my web app. I've since abandoned this web app and deleted the home screen icon but the toggle still shows in the privacy settings, I'd like to remove this toggle but I can't seem to find a way to do so. Can anyone help?

  • iPhone not returning to application after calling eMail send

    I am sending an email from within my iPhone application. The eMail page pops up ok, I click on the Send button, the iPhone plays a whoosh sound, and the eMail actually arrives at the recipient. Unfortunately, the mail dialog still sits there unresponsive, and the only option - to click the home button - kills the app. Is there something else that needs to be specified to close the eMailMessage view?     Hi, I have create a view based application and its loaded correctly what i designed in the xib files.My doubt is when i designed uiview it has the property of resize its frame size(autoresize). But when i loaded the application into iphone the uiview has not the property of resize its frame automatically.Is it possible to change a uiview automatically in iphone (when application loaded)?   • Getting WAP embedded video in android AND iphone?

    Recently a client asked me to make their site "work on smart phones", which normally wouldn't be too much of an issue... However it's a video site, and I have absolutely no idea where to even begin. Right off the bat I'm not even going to consider allowing the site to even function in anything other than Android (Maybe even 2.0+) and iPhone, maybe Blackberry and WinMo. But beyond that... What do I do? I'm looking at using the tag, however I'm unsure what, if any, codecs which phone uses. Is HTML5 even adopted in their browsers yet? Could someone please point me in the right direction? Am I going about this the right way, using the tag? Or is there some magical html element both iPhone and Android (And BB and WMo) that lets them run video in their native video players (Like on youtube).

    I am trying render a simple animation(object movement animations) on iphone. I used opengl for object rendering. Movements appears to be smooth on the simulator. But if I used same code in the ipod, object movement is slower. In the iphone it is still slower. I googled a bit and found 'frame rate independent rendering method', which taught me the concept of 'time interval' and object movement based on it. However result is very unpleasant. There is a lot of jerk in the animation even when fps remains above 20. Following code fragment is used for calculation of time interval between successive frames and I am using that to move my animation.   • How to gather usage statistics for iPhone app?

    I am in the process of releasing my first iPhone app. It's a simple utility, I'd just like to gauge the release process, app lifetime and trends, just so it can help make more realistic choices in future apps. I think it would be nice to have usage statistics in addition to download stats from Apple. For example, how many times is the app opened by each user, what iPhone OS version do they have, etc. I think some of it would simply be to try and connect to a known URL on one of my domains, passing it anonymous information (let's say, connect to http://mydomain.net/stats?app=myApp&version=1.0.0&os=3.1.2&used=18). My questions are: is that forbidden in any way by Apple's rules? (none that I could find, at least) does that seem reasonable to you? are there existing frameworks that would do that simpler/better that writing my own code?

    It seems like the steps right now are: Shoot movie sync iPhone with Mac via iTunes Open iPhoto Import photos from iPhone into iPhoto Open iMovie (or retart if it was already running) On startup, iMovie detects videos in iPhoto and imports them. Yikes. Is there an easier way? It's a bit odd that the videos are handled as photos, in the first place. And no, I'm not jailbreaking my iPhone simply to save me a few of these steps.
