  • Dynamic Array of Objects Sans Vector Class

    - by Connor Black
    I am doing a homework assignment for my summer OO class and we need to write two classes. One is called Sale and the other is called Register. I've written my Sale class; here's the .h file: enum ItemType {BOOK, DVD, SOFTWARE, CREDIT}; class Sale { public: Sale(); // default constructor, // sets numerical member data to 0 void MakeSale(ItemType x, double amt); ItemType Item(); // Returns the type of item in the sale double Price(); // Returns the price of the sale double Tax(); // Returns the amount of tax on the sale double Total(); // Returns the total price of the sale void Display(); // outputs sale info private: double price; // price of item or amount of credit double tax; // amount of sales tax double total; // final price once tax is added in. ItemType item; // transaction type }; For the Register class we need to include a dynamic array of Sale objects in our member data. We cannot use the vector class. How is this done? Here's my 'Register' '.h' class Register{ public: Register(int ident, int amount); ~Register(); int GetID(){return identification;} int GetAmount(){return amountMoney;} void RingUpSale(ItemType item, int basePrice); void ShowLast(); void ShowAll(); void Cancel(); int SalesTax(int n); private: int identification; int amountMoney; };

  • Pointers to a typed variable in C#: Interfase, Generic, object or Class? (Boxing/Unboxing)

    - by PaulG
    First of all, I apologize if this has been asked a thousand times. I read my C# book, I googled it, but I can't seem to find the answer I am looking for, or I am missing the point big time. I am very confused with the whole boxing/unboxing issue. Say I have fields of different classes, all returning typed variables (e.g. 'double') and I would like to have a variable point to any of these fields. In plain old C I would do something like: double * newVar; newVar = &oldVar; newVar = &anotherVar; ... In C#, it seems I could do an interfase, but would require that all fields be properties and named the same. Breaks apart when one of the properties doesn't have the same name or is not a property. I could also create a generic class returning double, but seems a bit absurd to create a class to represent a 'double', when a 'double' class already exists. If I am not mistaken, it doesn't even need to be generic, could be a simple class returning double. I could create an object and box the typed variable to the newly created object, but then I would have to cast every time I use it. Of course, I always have the unsafe option... but afraid of getting to unknown memory space, divide by zero and bring an end to this world. None of these seem to be the same as the old simple 'double * variable'. Am I missing something here?

  • Why is this giving me an infinite loop?

    - by Chase Yuan
    I was going through a code used to calculate investments until it has doubled and I received an infinite loop that I can't seem to solve. Can anyone figure out why this is giving me an infinite loop? I've gone through myself but I can't seem to find the problem. The "period" referred is how many times per year the interest is compounded. double account = 0; //declares the variables to be used double base = 0; double interest = 0; double rate = 0; double result = 0; double times = 0; int years = 0; int j; System.out.println("This is a program that calculates interest."); Scanner kbReader = new Scanner(System.in); //enters in all data System.out.print("Enter account balance: "); account = kbReader.nextDouble(); System.out.print("Enter interest rate (as decimal): "); rate = kbReader.nextDouble(); System.out.println(" " + "Years to double" + " " + "Ending balance"); base = account; result = account; for (j=0; j<3; j++){ System.out.print("Enter period: "); times = kbReader.nextDouble(); while (account < base*2){ interest = account * rate / times; account = interest + base; years++; } account = (((int)(account * 100))/100.0); //results System.out.print(" " + i + " " + account + "\n"); account = result; } The code should ask for three "periods", or three different times the entered data is compounded per year (ex annually, monthly, daily etc.) Thanks a lot!

  • Calling a constructor from method within the same class

    - by Nathan
    I'm new to java and I'm learning about creating object classes. One of my homework assignment requires that I call the constructor at least once within a method of the same object class. I'm getting an error that says The method DoubleMatrix(double[][]) is undefined for the type DoubleMatrix Here's my constructor: public DoubleMatrix(double[][] tempArray) { // Declaration int flag = 0; int cnt; // Statement // check to see if doubArray isn't null and has more than 0 rows if(tempArray == null || tempArray.length < 0) { flag++; } // check to see if each row has the same length if(flag == 0) { for(cnt = 0; cnt <= tempArray.length - 1 || flag != 1; cnt++) { if(tempArray[cnt + 1].length != tempArray[0].length) { flag++; } } } else if(flag == 1) { makeDoubMatrix(1, 1);// call makeDoubMatrix method } }// end constructor 2 Here's the method where I try and call the constructor: public double[][] addMatrix(double[][] tempDoub) { // Declaration double[][] newMatrix; int rCnt, cCnt; //Statement // checking to see if both are of same dimension if(doubMatrix.length == tempDoub.length && doubMatrix[0].length == tempDoub[0].length) { newMatrix = new double[doubMatrix.length][doubMatrix[0].length]; // for loop to add matrix to a new one for(rCnt = 0; rCnt <= doubMatrix.length; rCnt++) { for(cCnt = 0; cCnt <= doubMatrix.length; cCnt++) { newMatrix[rCnt][cCnt] = doubMatrix[rCnt][cCnt] + tempDoub[rCnt][cCnt]; } } } else { newMatrix = new double[0][0]; DoubleMatrix(newMatrix) } return newMatrix; }// end addMatrix method Can someone point me to the right direction and explain why I'm getting an error?

  • User Input That Involves A ' ' Causes A Substring Out Of Range Error

    - by Greenhouse Gases
    Hi Stackoverflow people. You have already helped me quite a bit but near the end of writing this program I have somewhat of a bug. You see in order to read in city names with a space in from a text file I use a '/' that is then replaced by the program for a ' ' (and when the serializer runs the opposite happens for next time the program is run). The problem is when a user inputs a name too add, search for, or delete that contains a space, for instance 'New York' I get a Debug Assertion Error with a substring out of range expression. I have a feeling it's to do with my correctCase function, or setElementsNull that looks at the string until it experiences a null element in the array, however ' ' is not null so I'm not sure how to fix this and I'm going a bit insane. Any help would be much appreciated. Here is my code: // U08221.cpp : main project file. #include "stdafx.h" #include <_iostream> #include <_string> #include <_fstream> #include <_cmath> using namespace std; class locationNode { public: string nodeCityName; double nodeLati; double nodeLongi; locationNode* Next; locationNode(string nameOf, double lat, double lon) { this->nodeCityName = nameOf; this->nodeLati = lat; this->nodeLongi = lon; this->Next = NULL; // Capitalise first letter this->nodeCityName[0] = firstLetVal; } while(this->nodeCityName[n] != NULL) { if((this->nodeCityName[n] >= 65) && (this->nodeCityName[n] <= 90)) { if(this->nodeCityName[n - 1] != 32) { letVal = this->nodeCityName[n] + 32; this->nodeCityName[n] = letVal; } } n++; } } }; Here is the main part of the program: // U08221.cpp : main project file. #include "stdafx.h" #include "Locations2.h" #include <_iostream> #include <_string> #include <_fstream> #include <_cmath> using namespace std; • Why is insertion into my tree faster on sorted input than random input?

    - by Juliet
    Now I've always heard binary search trees are faster to build from randomly selected data than ordered data, simply because ordered data requires explicit rebalancing to keep the tree height at a minimum. Recently I implemented an immutable treap, a special kind of binary search tree which uses randomization to keep itself relatively balanced. In contrast to what I expected, I found I can consistently build a treap about 2x faster and generally better balanced from ordered data than unordered data -- and I have no idea why. Here's my treap implementation: http://pastebin.com/VAfSJRwZ And here's a test program: using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Linq; using System.Diagnostics; namespace ConsoleApplication1 { class Program { static Random rnd = new Random(); const int ITERATION_COUNT = 20; static void Main(string[] args) { List<double> rndTimes = new List<double>(); List<double> orderedTimes = new List<double>(); rndTimes.Add(TimeIt(50, RandomInsert)); rndTimes.Add(TimeIt(100, RandomInsert)); rndTimes.Add(TimeIt(200, RandomInsert)); rndTimes.Add(TimeIt(400, RandomInsert)); rndTimes.Add(TimeIt(800, RandomInsert)); rndTimes.Add(TimeIt(1000, RandomInsert)); rndTimes.Add(TimeIt(2000, RandomInsert)); rndTimes.Add(TimeIt(4000, RandomInsert)); rndTimes.Add(TimeIt(8000, RandomInsert)); rndTimes.Add(TimeIt(16000, RandomInsert)); rndTimes.Add(TimeIt(32000, RandomInsert)); rndTimes.Add(TimeIt(64000, RandomInsert)); rndTimes.Add(TimeIt(128000, RandomInsert)); string rndTimesAsString = string.Join("\n", rndTimes.Select(x => x.ToString()).ToArray()); orderedTimes.Add(TimeIt(50, OrderedInsert)); orderedTimes.Add(TimeIt(100, OrderedInsert)); orderedTimes.Add(TimeIt(200, OrderedInsert)); orderedTimes.Add(TimeIt(400, OrderedInsert)); orderedTimes.Add(TimeIt(800, OrderedInsert)); orderedTimes.Add(TimeIt(1000, OrderedInsert)); orderedTimes.Add(TimeIt(2000, OrderedInsert)); orderedTimes.Add(TimeIt(4000, OrderedInsert)); orderedTimes.Add(TimeIt(8000, OrderedInsert)); orderedTimes.Add(TimeIt(16000, OrderedInsert)); orderedTimes.Add(TimeIt(32000, OrderedInsert)); orderedTimes.Add(TimeIt(64000, OrderedInsert)); orderedTimes.Add(TimeIt(128000, OrderedInsert)); string orderedTimesAsString = string.Join("\n", orderedTimes.Select(x => x.ToString()).ToArray()); Console.WriteLine("Done"); } static double TimeIt(int insertCount, Action<int> f) { Console.WriteLine("TimeIt({0}, {1})", insertCount, f.Method.Name); List<double> times = new List<double>(); for (int i = 0; i < ITERATION_COUNT; i++) { Stopwatch sw = Stopwatch.StartNew(); f(insertCount); sw.Stop(); times.Add(sw.Elapsed.TotalMilliseconds); } return times.Average(); } static void RandomInsert(int insertCount) { Treap<double> tree = new Treap<double>((x, y) => x.CompareTo(y)); for (int i = 0; i < insertCount; i++) { tree = tree.Insert(rnd.NextDouble()); } } static void OrderedInsert(int insertCount) { Treap<double> tree = new Treap<double>((x, y) => x.CompareTo(y)); for(int i = 0; i < insertCount; i++) { tree = tree.Insert(i + rnd.NextDouble()); } } } } And here's a chart comparing random and ordered insertion times in milliseconds: Insertions Random Ordered RandomTime / OrderedTime 50 1.031665 0.261585 3.94 100 0.544345 1.377155 0.4 200 1.268320 0.734570 1.73 400 2.765555 1.639150 1.69 800 6.089700 3.558350 1.71 1000 7.855150 4.704190 1.67 2000 17.852000 12.554065 1.42 4000 40.157340 22.474445 1.79 8000 88.375430 48.364265 1.83 16000 197.524000 109.082200 1.81 32000 459.277050 238.154405 1.93 64000 1055.508875 512.020310 2.06 128000 2481.694230 1107.980425 2.24 I don't see anything in the code which makes ordered input asymptotically faster than unordered input, so I'm at a loss to explain the difference. Why is it so much faster to build a treap from ordered input than random input?

  • ArrayList access

    - by Ricky McQuesten
    So once again I have a question about this program. I want to store transactions that are made in an arraylist and then have an option in the case menu where I can print out those that are stored. I have been researching online and have been unable to find a solution to this, so is this possible and how would I go about doing this? I also want to attach a timestamp to each transaction as well. Here is the code I have so far. So my question is how would I add a timestamp to each withdrawal or deposit, and how would I store each transaction in array list? import java.util.*; public class BankAccount extends Money { //inheritence static String name; public static int acctNum; public static double balance, amount; BankAccount(String name, int accNo, double bal) { this.name = name; this.acctNum = accNo; this.balance = bal; } void display() { System.out.println("Your Name:" + name); System.out.println("Your Account Number:" + acctNum); System.out.println("Your Current Account Balance:" + Money.getBalance()); } void displayBalance() { System.out.println("Balance:" + balance); } } import java.util.Scanner; /** * * @author Ricky */ public class Money { public static int accountNumber; public static double balance; static double amount; static String name; public void setDeposit(double amount) { balance = balance + amount; if (amount < 0) { System.out.println("Invalid"); } } public double getDeposit() { return 1; } public void setBalance(double b) { balance = b; } public static double getBalance() { return balance; } public void setWithdraw(double amount) { if (balance < amount) { System.out.println("Not enough funds."); } else if(amount < 0) { System.out.println("Invalid"); } else { balance = balance - amount; } } public double getWithdraw() { return 1; } } import java.util.*; public class Client { public static void main(String args[]) { int n = 0; int count; String trans; ArrayList<String> transaction= new ArrayList<String>(n); Scanner input = new Scanner(System.in); System.out.println("Welcome to First National Bank"); System.out.println("Please enter your name: "); String cusName = input.nextLine(); System.out.println("You will now be assigned an account number."); Random randomGenerator = new Random(); int accNo = randomGenerator.nextInt(100000); //random number System.out.println("Your account number is: " + accNo); System.out.println("Please enter your initial account balance: "); Double balance = input.nextDouble(); BankAccount b1 = new BankAccount(cusName, accNo, balance); b1.setBalance(balance); int menu; /*System.out.println("Menu"); System.out.println("1. Deposit Amount"); System.out.println("2. Withdraw Amount"); System.out.println("3. Display Information"); System.out.println("4. • Pass a Delphi class to a C++ function/method that expects a class with __thiscall methods.

    - by Alan G.
    I have some MSVC++ compiled DLL's for which I have created COM-like (lite) interfaces (abstract Delphi classes). Some of those classes have methods that need pointers to objects. These C++ methods are declared with the __thiscall calling convention (which I cannot change), which is just like __stdcall, except a this pointer is passed on the ECX register. I create the class instance in Delphi, then pass it on to the C++ method. I can set breakpoints in Delphi and see it hitting the exposed __stdcall methods in my Delphi class, but soon I get a STATUS_STACK_BUFFER_OVERRUN and the app has to exit. Is it possible to emulate/deal with __thiscall on the Delphi side of things? If I pass an object instantiated by the C++ system then all is good, and that object's methods are called (as would be expected), but this is useless - I need to pass Delphi objects. Edit 2010-04-19 18:12 This is what happens in more detail: The first method called (setLabel) exits with no error (though its a stub method). The second method called (init), enters then dies when it attempts to read the vol parameter. C++ Side #define SHAPES_EXPORT __declspec(dllexport) // just to show the value class SHAPES_EXPORT CBox { public: virtual ~CBox() {} virtual void init(double volume) = 0; virtual void grow(double amount) = 0; virtual void shrink(double amount) = 0; virtual void setID(int ID = 0) = 0; virtual void setLabel(const char* text) = 0; }; Delphi Side IBox = class public procedure destroyBox; virtual; stdcall; abstract; procedure init(vol: Double); virtual; stdcall; abstract; procedure grow(amount: Double); virtual; stdcall; abstract; procedure shrink(amount: Double); virtual; stdcall; abstract; procedure setID(val: Integer); virtual; stdcall; abstract; procedure setLabel(text: PChar); virtual; stdcall; abstract; end; TMyBox = class(IBox) protected FVolume: Double; FID: Integer; FLabel: String; // public constructor Create; destructor Destroy; override; // BEGIN Virtual Method implementation procedure destroyBox; override; stdcall; // empty - Dont need/want C++ to manage my Delphi objects, just call their methods procedure init(vol: Double); override; stdcall; // FVolume := vol; procedure grow(amount: Double); override; stdcall; // Inc(FVolume, amount); procedure shrink(amount: Double); override; stdcall; // Dec(FVolume, amount); procedure setID(val: Integer); override; stdcall; // FID := val; procedure setLabel(text: PChar); override; stdcall; // Stub method; empty. // END Virtual Method implementation property Volume: Double read FVolume; property ID: Integer read FID; property Label: String read FLabel; end; I would have half expected using stdcall alone to work, but something is messing up, not sure what, perhaps something to do with the ECX register being used? Help would be greatly appreciated. Edit 2010-04-19 17:42 Could it be that the ECX register needs to be preserved on entry and restored once the function exits? Is the this pointer required by C++? I'm probably just reaching at the moment based on some intense Google searches. I found something related, but it seems to be dealing with the reverse of this issue.

  • Referencing ASP.net textbox data in JavaScripts

    - by GoldenEarring
    I'm interested in making an interactive 3D pie chart using JavaScript and ASP.net controls for a webpage. Essentially, I want to make an interactive version of the chart here: https://google-developers.appspot.com/chart/interactive/docs/gallery/piechart#3D I want to have 5 ASP.net textboxes where the user enters data and then submits it, and the chart adjusts according to what the user enters. I understand using ASP.net controls with JS is probably not the most effective way to go about it, but I would really appreciate if someone could share how doing this would be possible. I really don't know where to begin. Thanks for any help! <%@ Page Language="C#" %> <!DOCTYPE html> <script runat="server"> void btn1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { double s = 0.0; double b = 0; double g = 0.0f; double c = 0.0f; double h = 0.0f; s = double.Parse(txtWork.Text); b = double.Parse(txtEat.Text); g = double.Parse(txtCommute.Text); c = double.Parse(txtWatchTV.Text); h = double.Parse(txtSleep.Text); double total = s + b + g + c + h; if (total != 24) { lblError.Text = "Warning! • Best way to implement a data structure in PHP ?

    - by Double Gras
    Hi, I want to use some kind of data structure in PHP (5.2), mainly in order to not pollute the global namespace. I think about two approaches, using an array or a class. Could you tell me which approach is better ? Thanks $SQL_PARAMETERS = array ( 'server' => '127.0.0.1', 'login' => 'root'); class SqlParameters { const SERVER = '127.0.0.1'; const LOGIN = 'root'; } echo $SQL_PARAMETERS['server']; echo SqlParameters::SERVER;

  • C#/.NET Little Wonders: Interlocked Read() and Exchange()

    - by James Michael Hare
    Once again, in this series of posts I look at the parts of the .NET Framework that may seem trivial, but can help improve your code by making it easier to write and maintain. The index of all my past little wonders posts can be found here. Last time we discussed the Interlocked class and its Add(), Increment(), and Decrement() methods which are all useful for updating a value atomically by adding (or subtracting).  However, this begs the question of how do we set and read those values atomically as well? Read() – Read a value atomically Let’s begin by examining the following code: 1: public class Incrementor 2: { 3: private long _value = 0; 4:  5: public long Value { get { return _value; } } 6:  7: public void Increment() 8: { 9: Interlocked.Increment(ref _value); 10: } 11: } 12:  It uses an interlocked increment, as we discuss in my previous post (here), so we know that the increment will be thread-safe.  But, to realize what’s potentially wrong we have to know a bit about how atomic reads are in 32 bit and 64 bit .NET environments. When you are dealing with an item smaller or equal to the system word size (such as an int on a 32 bit system or a long on a 64 bit system) then the read is generally atomic, because it can grab all of the bits needed at once.  However, when dealing with something larger than the system word size (reading a long on a 32 bit system for example), it cannot grab the whole value at once, which can lead to some problems since this read isn’t atomic. For example, this means that on a 32 bit system we may read one half of the long before another thread increments the value, and the other half of it after the increment.  To protect us from reading an invalid value in this manner, we can do an Interlocked.Read() to force the read to be atomic (of course, you’d want to make sure any writes or increments are atomic also): 1: public class Incrementor 2: { 3: private long _value = 0; 4:  5: public long Value 6: { 7: get { return Interlocked.Read(ref _value); } 8: } 9:  10: public void Increment() 11: { 12: Interlocked.Increment(ref _value); 13: } 14: } Now we are guaranteed that we will read the 64 bit value atomically on a 32 bit system, thus ensuring our thread safety (assuming all other reads, writes, increments, etc. are likewise protected).  Note that as stated before, and according to the MSDN (here), it isn’t strictly necessary to use Interlocked.Read() for reading 64 bit values on 64 bit systems, but for those still working in 32 bit environments, it comes in handy when dealing with long atomically. Exchange() – Exchanges two values atomically Exchange() lets us store a new value in the given location (the ref parameter) and return the old value as a result. So just as Read() allows us to read atomically, one use of Exchange() is to write values atomically.  For example, if we wanted to add a Reset() method to our Incrementor, we could do something like this: 1: public void Reset() 2: { 3: _value = 0; 4: } But the assignment wouldn’t be atomic on 32 bit systems, since the word size is 32 bits and the variable is a long (64 bits).  Thus our assignment could have only set half the value when a threaded read or increment happens, which would put us in a bad state. So instead, we could write Reset() like this: 1: public void Reset() 2: { 3: Interlocked.Exchange(ref _value, 0); 4: } And we’d be safe again on a 32 bit system. But this isn’t the only reason Exchange() is valuable.  The key comes in realizing that Exchange() doesn’t just set a new value, it returns the old as well in an atomic step.  Hence the name “exchange”: you are swapping the value to set with the stored value. So why would we want to do this?  Well, anytime you want to set a value and take action based on the previous value.  An example of this might be a scheme where you have several tasks, and during every so often, each of the tasks may nominate themselves to do some administrative chore.  Perhaps you don’t want to make this thread dedicated for whatever reason, but want to be robust enough to let any of the threads that isn’t currently occupied nominate itself for the job.  An easy and lightweight way to do this would be to have a long representing whether someone has acquired the “election” or not.  So a 0 would indicate no one has been elected and 1 would indicate someone has been elected. We could then base our nomination strategy as follows: every so often, a thread will attempt an Interlocked.Exchange() on the long and with a value of 1.  The first thread to do so will set it to a 1 and return back the old value of 0.  We can use this to show that they were the first to nominate and be chosen are thus “in charge”.  Anyone who nominates after that will attempt the same Exchange() but will get back a value of 1, which indicates that someone already had set it to a 1 before them, thus they are not elected. Then, the only other step we need take is to remember to release the election flag once the elected thread accomplishes its task, which we’d do by setting the value back to 0.  In this way, the next thread to nominate with Exchange() will get back the 0 letting them know they are the new elected nominee. Such code might look like this: 1: public class Nominator 2: { 3: private long _nomination = 0; 4: public bool Elect() 5: { 6: return Interlocked.Exchange(ref _nomination, 1) == 0; 7: } 8: public bool Release() 9: { 10: return Interlocked.Exchange(ref _nomination, 0) == 1; 11: } 12: } There’s many ways to do this, of course, but you get the idea.  Running 5 threads doing some “sleep” work might look like this: 1: var nominator = new Nominator(); 2: var random = new Random(); 3: Parallel.For(0, 5, i => 4: { 5:  6: for (int j = 0; j < _iterations; ++j) 7: { 8: if (nominator.Elect()) 9: { 10: // elected 11: Console.WriteLine("Elected nominee " + i); 12: Thread.Sleep(random.Next(100, 5000)); 13: nominator.Release(); 14: } 15: else 16: { 17: // not elected 18: Console.WriteLine("Did not elect nominee " + i); 19: } 20: // sleep before check again 21: Thread.Sleep(1000); 22: } 23: }); And would spit out results like: 1: Elected nominee 0 2: Did not elect nominee 2 3: Did not elect nominee 1 4: Did not elect nominee 4 5: Did not elect nominee 3 6: Did not elect nominee 3 7: Did not elect nominee 1 8: Did not elect nominee 2 9: Did not elect nominee 4 10: Elected nominee 3 11: Did not elect nominee 2 12: Did not elect nominee 1 13: Did not elect nominee 4 14: Elected nominee 0 15: Did not elect nominee 2 16: Did not elect nominee 4 17: ... Another nice thing about the Interlocked.Exchange() is it can be used to thread-safely set pretty much anything 64 bits or less in size including references, pointers (in unsafe mode), floats, doubles, etc.  Summary So, now we’ve seen two more things we can do with Interlocked: reading and exchanging a value atomically.  Read() and Exchange() are especially valuable for reading/writing 64 bit values atomically in a 32 bit system.  Exchange() has value even beyond simply atomic writes by using the Exchange() to your advantage, since it reads and set the value atomically, which allows you to do lightweight nomination systems. There’s still a few more goodies in the Interlocked class which we’ll explore next time! Technorati Tags: C#,CSharp,.NET,Little Wonders,Interlocked

  • I have a very long and repetitive python path, where do I look to correct this?

    - by ninja123
    I know it is probably not necessary to paste the whole path, but just for the record I have done so below. Whenever I run a python command, it takes a long time to load this path I suppose. I have checked in .bash_profile and only have these two lines: export PATH=/Users/username/bin:/opt/local/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.5/bin:/opt/local/bin:/opt/local/sbin:/opt/local/apache2/bin:$PATH export PYTHONPATH=/opt/local/lib/python2.5/site-packages/ And my python path as outputed by Django's debug is: Python path : ['/Users/username/Sites/videocluster/eggs/ipython-0.10-py2.5.egg', '/Users/username/Sites/videocluster/eggs/South-0.6.1-py2.5.egg', '/Users/username/Sites/videocluster/eggs/django_markitup-0.5.2-py2.5.egg', '/Users/username/Sites/videocluster/eggs/DateTime-2.12.0-py2.5.egg', '/Users/username/Sites/videocluster/eggs/Markdown-2.0.3-py2.5.egg', '/Users/username/Sites/videocluster/eggs/PIL-1.1.7-py2.5-macosx-10.5-i386.egg', '/Users/username/Sites/videocluster/eggs/djangorecipe-0.20-py2.5.egg', '/Users/username/Sites/videocluster/eggs/zc.recipe.egg-1.2.3b2-py2.5.egg', '/Users/username/Sites/videocluster/eggs/zc.buildout-1.5.0b2-py2.5.egg', '/Users/username/Sites/videocluster/eggs/pytz-2010h-py2.5.egg', '/Users/username/Sites/videocluster/eggs/zope.interface-3.6.1-py2.5-macosx-10.5-i386.egg', '/Users/username/Sites/videocluster/eggs/setuptools-0.6c11-py2.5.egg', '/Users/username/Sites/videocluster/parts/django', '/Users/username/Sites/videocluster', '/Users/username/Sites/videocluster/bin', '/opt/local/lib/python2.5/site-packages/setuptools_git-0.3.3-py2.5.egg', '/opt/local/lib/python2.5/site-packages/pysqlite-2.5.5-py2.5-macosx-10.5-i386.egg', '/opt/local/lib/python2.5/site-packages/CouchDB-0.5-py2.5.egg', '/opt/local/lib/python2.5/site-packages/httplib2-0.4.0-py2.5.egg', '/opt/local/lib/python2.5/site-packages/PyYAML-3.08-py2.5-macosx-10.5-i386.egg', '/opt/local/lib/python2.5/site-packages/simple_db_migrate-1.2.8-py2.5.egg', '/opt/local/lib/python2.5/site-packages/PyDispatcher-2.0.1-py2.5.egg', '/opt/local/lib/python2.5/site-packages/pyOpenSSL-0.9-py2.5-macosx-10.5-i386.egg', '/opt/local/lib/python2.5/site-packages/greenlet-0.2-py2.5-macosx-10.5-i386.egg', '/opt/local/lib/python2.5/site-packages/Supay-0.0.2-py2.5.egg', '/opt/local/lib/python2.5/site-packages/configobj-4.6.0-py2.5.egg', '/opt/local/lib/python2.5/site-packages/Fabric-0.9b1-py2.5.egg', '/opt/local/lib/python2.5/site-packages/fudge-0.9.3-py2.5.egg', '/opt/local/lib/python2.5/site-packages/pydelicious-0.5.3-py2.5.egg', '/opt/local/lib/python2.5/site-packages/feedparser-4.1-py2.5.egg', '/opt/local/lib/python2.5/site-packages/github_cli-0.2.5.2-py2.5.egg', '/opt/local/lib/python2.5/site-packages/simplejson-2.0.9-py2.5-macosx-10.5-i386.egg', '/opt/local/lib/python2.5/site-packages/setuptools-0.6c11-py2.5.egg', '/opt/local/lib/python2.5/site-packages/setuptools-0.6c11-py2.5.egg', '/opt/local/lib/python2.5/site-packages/setuptools-0.6c11-py2.5.egg', '/opt/local/lib/python2.5/site-packages/setuptools-0.6c11-py2.5.egg', '/opt/local/lib/python2.5/site-packages/setuptools-0.6c11-py2.5.egg', '/opt/local/lib/python2.5/site-packages/setuptools-0.6c11-py2.5.egg', '/opt/local/lib/python2.5/site-packages/setuptools-0.6c11-py2.5.egg', '/opt/local/lib/python2.5/site-packages/setuptools-0.6c11-py2.5.egg', '/opt/local/lib/python2.5/site-packages/setuptools-0.6c11-py2.5.egg', '/opt/local/lib/python2.5/site-packages/setuptools-0.6c11-py2.5.egg', '/opt/local/lib/python2.5/site-packages/setuptools-0.6c11-py2.5.egg', '/opt/local/lib/python2.5/site-packages/setuptools-0.6c11-py2.5.egg', '/opt/local/lib/python2.5/site-packages/setuptools-0.6c11-py2.5.egg', '/opt/local/lib/python2.5/site-packages/setuptools-0.6c11-py2.5.egg', '/opt/local/lib/python2.5/site-packages/setuptools-0.6c11-py2.5.egg', '/opt/local/lib/python2.5/site-packages/setuptools-0.6c11-py2.5.egg', '/opt/local/lib/python2.5/site-packages/setuptools-0.6c11-py2.5.egg', '/opt/local/lib/python2.5/site-packages/setuptools-0.6c11-py2.5.egg', '/opt/local/lib/python2.5/site-packages/setuptools-0.6c11-py2.5.egg', ......(repeating).......     I have a character array b which stores different identifiers in different iterations . I have to compare b with various identifiers of the programming language C and print it into a file .   • jqGrid concatinating/building html tag incorrectly

    - by Energetic Pixels
    Please excuse to length of post. But I needed to explain what I am seeing. I have a onSelectRow option that is supposed to build stacked html <li> tags (such as <li>...</li> <li>...</li> <li>...</li> ) up to the number of static xml elements that I am looking at. But my script is concatinating all the image src links together instead of building the whole listobject tag. Everything else in my jqGrid script works with exception of repeated elements inside my xml. onSelectRow: function() { var gsr = $('#searchResults').jqGrid('getGridParam', 'selrow'); if (gsr) { var data = $('#searchResults').jqGrid('getRowData', gsr); $('#thumbs ul').html('<li><a class='thumb' href='' + data.piclocation + '' title='' + data.pictitle + ''><img src='" + data.picthumb + "' alt='" + data.pictitle + "' /></a><div class='caption'><div class='image-title'>" + data.pictitle + "</div></div></li>"); };" my xml file is something like this: <photo> <pic> <asset>weaponLib/stillMedia/slides/A106.jpg</asset> <thumb>weaponLib/stillMedia/thumbs/A106.jpg</thumb> <caption>Side view of DODIC A106</caption> <title>Side view of 22 caliber long rifle ball cartridge</title> </pic> <pic> <asset>weaponLib/stillMedia/slides/A106_A.jpg</asset> <thumb>weaponLib/stillMedia/thumbs/A106_A.jpg</thumb> <caption>Side view of DODIC A106</caption> <title>Side view of 22 caliber long rifle ball cartridge</title> </pic> <pic> <asset>weaponLib/stillMedia/slides/A106_B.jpg</asset> <thumb>weaponLib/stillMedia/thumbs/A106_B.jpg</thumb> <caption>Side view of DODIC A106</caption> <title>Side view of 22 caliber long rifle ball cartridge</title> </pic> <pic> <asset>weaponLib/stillMedia/slides/A106_C.jpg</asset> <thumb>weaponLib/stillMedia/thumbs/A106_C.jpg</thumb> <caption>Side view of DODIC A106</caption> <title>Side view of 22 caliber long rifle ball cartridge</title> </pic> <pic> <asset>weaponLib/stillMedia/slides/A106_D.jpg</asset> <thumb>weaponLib/stillMedia/thumbs/A106_D.jpg</thumb> <caption>Side view of DODIC A106</caption> <title>Side view of 22 caliber long rifle ball cartridge</title> </pic> My script works fine when it only sees one sequence, but when it sees more than one it puts all html inside the tags together then for the caption and title does the same for them. It generates only one <li></li> tag set instead of 5 in the example above like I want. The <li> tags are being used by a slideshow (with thumbnails) utility. Inside firebug, I can see the object that it is built for me: <a title="Side view of 22 caliber long rifle ball cartridgeSide view of 22 caliber long rifle ball cartridgeSide view of 22 caliber long rifle ball cartridgeSide view of 22 caliber long rifle ball cartridgeSide view of 22 caliber long rifle ball cartridge" href="weaponLib/stillMedia/slides/A106.jpgweaponLib/stillMedia/slides/A106_A.jpgweaponLib/stillMedia/slides/A106_B.jpgweaponLib/stillMedia/slides/A106_C.jpgweaponLib/stillMedia/slides/A106_D.jpg" class="thumb"><img alt="Side view of 22 caliber long rifle ball cartridgeSide view of 22 caliber long rifle ball cartridgeSide view of 22 caliber long rifle ball cartridgeSide view of 22 caliber long rifle ball cartridgeSide view of 22 caliber long rifle ball cartridge" src="weaponLib/stillMedia/thumbs/A106.jpgweaponLib/stillMedia/thumbs/A106_A.jpgweaponLib/stillMedia/thumbs/A106_B.jpgweaponLib/stillMedia/thumbs/A106_C.jpgweaponLib/stillMedia/thumbs/A106_D.jpg"></a> Within jqGrid, the cell is holding: <td title="weaponLib/stillMedia/slides/A106.jpgweaponLib/stillMedia/slides/A106_A.jpgweaponLib/stillMedia/slides/A106_B.jpgweaponLib/stillMedia/slides/A106_C.jpgweaponLib/stillMedia/slides/A106_D.jpg" style="text-align: center; display: none;" role="gridcell">weaponLib/stillMedia/slides/A106.jpgweaponLib/stillMedia/slides/A106_A.jpgweaponLib/stillMedia/slides/A106_B.jpgweaponLib/stillMedia/slides/A106_C.jpgweaponLib/stillMedia/slides/A106_D.jpg</td> I know that jqGrid is building it wrong. I am double-stumped as to direction to fix it. Any suggestions would be greatly greatly appreciated. tony

  • SQLiteDataAdapter Fill exception

    - by Lirik
    I'm trying to use the OleDb CSV parser to load some data from a CSV file and insert it into a SQLite database, but I get an exception with the OleDbAdapter.Fill method and it's frustrating: An unhandled exception of type 'System.Data.ConstraintException' occurred in System.Data.dll Additional information: Failed to enable constraints. One or more rows contain values violating non-null, unique, or foreign-key constraints. Here is the source code: public void InsertData(String csvFileName, String tableName) { String dir = Path.GetDirectoryName(csvFileName); String name = Path.GetFileName(csvFileName); using (OleDbConnection conn = new OleDbConnection("Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=" + dir + @";Extended Properties=""Text;HDR=No;FMT=Delimited""")) { conn.Open(); using (OleDbDataAdapter adapter = new OleDbDataAdapter("SELECT * FROM " + name, conn)) { QuoteDataSet ds = new QuoteDataSet(); adapter.Fill(ds, tableName); // <-- Exception here InsertData(ds, tableName); // <-- Inserts the data into the my SQLite db } } } class Program { static void Main(string[] args) { SQLiteDatabase target = new SQLiteDatabase(); string csvFileName = "D:\\Innovations\\Finch\\dev\\DataFeed\\YahooTagsInfo.csv"; string tableName = "Tags"; target.InsertData(csvFileName, tableName); Console.ReadKey(); } } The "YahooTagsInfo.csv" file looks like this: tagId,tagName,description,colName,dataType,realTime 1,s,Symbol,symbol,VARCHAR,FALSE 2,c8,After Hours Change,afterhours,DOUBLE,TRUE 3,g3,Annualized Gain,annualizedGain,DOUBLE,FALSE 4,a,Ask,ask,DOUBLE,FALSE 5,a5,Ask Size,askSize,DOUBLE,FALSE 6,a2,Average Daily Volume,avgDailyVolume,DOUBLE,FALSE 7,b,Bid,bid,DOUBLE,FALSE 8,b6,Bid Size,bidSize,DOUBLE,FALSE 9,b4,Book Value,bookValue,DOUBLE,FALSE I've tried the following: Removing the first line in the CSV file so it doesn't confuse it for real data. Changing the TRUE/FALSE realTime flag to 1/0. I've tried 1 and 2 together (i.e. removed the first line and changed the flag). None of these things helped... One constraint is that the tagId is supposed to be unique. Here is what the table look like in design view: Can anybody help me figure out what is the problem here? Update: I changed the HDR property from HDR=No to HDR=Yes and now it doesn't give me an exception: OleDbConnection conn = new OleDbConnection("Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=" + dir + @";Extended Properties=""Text;HDR=Yes;FMT=Delimited"""); I assumed that if HDR=No and I removed the header (i.e. first line), then it should work... strangely it didn't work. In any case, now I'm no longer getting the exception. The new problem is here: public void InsertData(QuoteDataSet data, String tableName) { using (SQLiteConnection conn = new SQLiteConnection(_connectionString)) { conn.Open(); using (SQLiteDataAdapter sqliteAdapter = new SQLiteDataAdapter("SELECT * FROM " + tableName, conn)) { Console.WriteLine("Num rows updated is " + sqliteAdapter.Update(data, tableName)); } } } Now the Num rows updated is 0... any hints?

  • Trying to change variables in a singleton using a method

    - by Johnny Cox
    I am trying to use a singleton to store variables that will be used across multiple view controllers. I need to be able to get the variables and also set them. How do I call a method in a singleton to change the variables stored in the singleton. total+=1079; [var setTotal:total]; where var is a static Singleton *var = nil; I need to update the total and send to the setTotal method inside the singleton. But when I do this the setTotal method never gets accessed. The get methods work but the setTotal method does not. Please let me know what should. Below is some of my source code // // Singleton.m // Rolo // // Created by on 6/28/12. // Copyright (c) 2012 Johnny Cox. All rights reserved. // #import "Singleton.h" @implementation Singleton @synthesize total,tax,final; #pragma mark Singleton Methods + (Singleton *)sharedManager { static Singleton *sharedInstance = nil; static dispatch_once_t onceToken; dispatch_once(&onceToken, ^{ sharedInstance = [[Singleton alloc] init]; // Do any other initialisation stuff here }); return sharedInstance; } +(void) setTotal:(double) tot { Singleton *shared = [Singleton sharedManager]; shared.total = tot; NSLog(@"hello"); } +(double) getTotal { Singleton *shared = [Singleton sharedManager]; NSLog(@"%f",shared.total); return shared.total; } +(double) getTax { Singleton *shared = [Singleton sharedManager]; NSLog(@"%f",shared.tax); return shared.tax; } @end // // Singleton.h // Rolo // // Created by on 6/28/12. // Copyright (c) 2012 Johnny Cox. • Averaging initial values for rolling series

    - by Dave Jarvis
    Question Given a maximum sliding window size of 40 (i.e., the set of numbers in the list cannot exceed 40), what is the calculation to ensure a smooth averaging transition as the set size grows from 1 to 40? Problem Description Creating a trend line for a set of data has skewed initial values. The complete set of values is unknown at runtime: they are provided one at a time. It seems like a reverse-weighted average is required so that the initial values are averaged differently. In the image below the leftmost data for the trend line are incorrectly averaged. Current Solution Created a new type of ArrayList subclass that calculates the appropriate values and ensures its size never goes beyond the bounds of the sliding window: /** * A list of Double values that has a maximum capacity enforced by a sliding * window. Can calculate the average of its values. */ public class AveragingList extends ArrayList<Double> { private float slidingWindowSize = 0.0f; /** * The initial capacity is used for the sliding window size. * @param slidingWindowSize */ public AveragingList( int slidingWindowSize ) { super( slidingWindowSize ); setSlidingWindowSize( ( float )slidingWindowSize ); } public boolean add( Double d ) { boolean result = super.add( d ); // Prevent the list from exceeding the maximum sliding window size. // if( size() > getSlidingWindowSize() ) { remove( 0 ); } return result; } /** * Calculate the average. * * @return The average of the values stored in this list. */ public double average() { double result = 0.0; int size = size(); for( Double d: this ) { result += d.doubleValue(); } return (double)result / (double)size; } /** * Changes the maximum number of numbers stored in this list. * * @param slidingWindowSize New maximum number of values to remember. */ public void setSlidingWindowSize( float slidingWindowSize ) { this.slidingWindowSize = slidingWindowSize; } /** * Returns the number used to determine the maximum values this list can * store before it removes the first entry upon adding another value. * @return The maximum number of numbers stored in this list. */ public float getSlidingWindowSize() { return slidingWindowSize; } } Resulting Image Example Input The data comes into the function one value at a time. For example, data points (Data) and calculated averages (Avg) typically look as follows: Data: 17.0 Avg : 17.0 Data: 17.0 Avg : 17.0 Data: 5.0 Avg : 13.0 Data: 5.0 Avg : 11.0  Related Sites The following pages describe moving averages, but typically when all (or sufficient) data is known: http://www.cs.princeton.edu/introcs/15inout/MovingAverage.java.html http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2161815/r-zoo-series-sliding-window-calculation http://taragana.blogspot.com/ http://www.dreamincode.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=92508 http://blogs.sun.com/nickstephen/entry/dtrace_and_moving_rolling_averages

  • Java: CSV file read & write.

    - by battousai622
    Im reading in 2 csv file: store_inventory & new_acquisitions... I want to be able to compare the store_inventory csv file with new_acquisitions. 1) If the item names match just update the quantity in store_inventory. 2) If new_acquisitions has a new item that does not exist in store_inventory, then add it to the store_inventory. Heres what i have so far but its not very good. I added comments where i need to add taks 1) & 2). Any advice or code would be great, thanks. File new_acq = new File("/src/test/new_acquisitions.csv"); Scanner acq_scan = null; try { acq_scan = new Scanner(new_acq); } catch (FileNotFoundException ex) { Logger.getLogger(mainpage.class.getName()).log(Level.SEVERE, null, ex); } String itemName; int quantity; Double cost; Double price; File store_inv = new File("/src/test/store_inventory.csv"); Scanner invscan = null; try { invscan = new Scanner(store_inv); } catch (FileNotFoundException ex) { Logger.getLogger(mainpage.class.getName()).log(Level.SEVERE, null, ex); } String itemNameInv; int quantityInv; Double costInv; Double priceInv; while (acq_scan.hasNext()) { String line = acq_scan.nextLine(); if (line.charAt(0) == '#') { continue; } String[] split = line.split(","); itemName = split[0]; quantity = Integer.parseInt(split[1]); cost = Double.parseDouble(split[2]); price = Double.parseDouble(split[3]); while(invscan.hasNext()) { String line2 = invscan.nextLine(); if (line2.charAt(0) == '#') { continue; } String[] split2 = line2.split(","); itemNameInv = split2[0]; quantityInv = Integer.parseInt(split2[1]); costInv = Double.parseDouble(split2[2]); priceInv = Double.parseDouble(split2[3]); if(itemName == itemNameInv) { //update quantity } } //add new entry into csv file } Thanks again for any help. =]

  • Add elements to Arraylist and it replaces all previous elements in Java

    - by pie154
    I am adding elements to a ArrayList and it adds the first one correctly but then when I add any subsequent elements it wipes replaces the other elements with the value form the most recently added and adds a new element to the ArrayList. I ran test using arraylist and ints and even another created class and it worked perfectly but soemthing about the custon class i am using here causes problems. The code for the array list is public static void main(String args[]){ List<BasicEvent> list = new ArrayList<BasicEvent>(); list.add(new BasicEvent("Basic", "Door", 9, 4444, new Date(12,04,2010), new Time(12,04,21), 1, 0.98, 0)); list.add(new BasicEvent("Composite", "Door", 125, 4444, new Date(12,04,2010), new Time(12,04,20), 1, 0.98, 1)); list.add(new BasicEvent("Basic", "Door", 105, 88, new Date(12,04,2010), new Time(12,05,23), 1, 0.98, 0)); list.add(new BasicEvent("Basic", "Door", 125, 12, new Date(12,04,2010), new Time(12,05,28), 1, 0.98, 1)); list.add(new BasicEvent("Basic", "Door", 129, 25, new Date(12,04,2010), new Time(12,05,30), 1, 0.98, 0)); list.add(new BasicEvent("Basic", "Door", 125, 63, new Date(12,04,2010), new Time(12,04,20), 1, 0.98, 1)); list.add(new BasicEvent("Basic", "Detect", 127, 9, new Date(12,04,2010), new Time(12,05,29), 1, 0.98, -1)); for(int i=0;i<list.size();i++) {System.out.println("list a poition " + i + " is " + BasicEvent.basicToString(list.get(i)));} And the code for the custom class basicEvent is public class BasicEvent { public static String Level; public static String EType; public static double xPos; public static double yPos; public static Date date; public static Time time; public static double Rlb; public static double Sig; public static int Reserved; public BasicEvent(String L, String E, double X, double Y, Date D, Time T, double R, double S, int Res){ Level = L; EType = E; xPos = X; yPos = Y; date = D; time = T; Rlb = R; Sig = S; Reserved = Res; }; public static String basicToString(BasicEvent bse){ String out = bse.getLevel() + ";" + bse.getEtype() + ";" + bse.getxPos() + ";" + bse.getyPos() + ";" + bse.getDate().dateAsString() + ";" + bse.getTime().timeAsString() + ";" + bse.getRlb() + ";" + bse.getSig() + ";" + bse.getReserved(); return out; }

  • Is it ok to dynamic cast "this" as a return value?

    - by Panayiotis Karabassis
    This is more of a design question. I have a template class, and I want to add extra methods to it depending on the template type. To practice the DRY principle, I have come up with this pattern (definitions intentionally omitted): template <class T> class BaseVector: public boost::array<T, 3> { protected: BaseVector<T>(const T x, const T y, const T z); public: bool operator == (const Vector<T> &other) const; Vector<T> operator + (const Vector<T> &other) const; Vector<T> operator - (const Vector<T> &other) const; Vector<T> &operator += (const Vector<T> &other) { (*this)[0] += other[0]; (*this)[1] += other[1]; (*this)[2] += other[2]; return *dynamic_cast<Vector<T> * const>(this); } } template <class T> class Vector : public BaseVector<T> { public: Vector<T>(const T x, const T y, const T z) : BaseVector<T>(x, y, z) { } }; template <> class Vector<double> : public BaseVector<double> { public: Vector<double>(const double x, const double y, const double z); Vector<double>(const Vector<int> &other); double norm() const; }; I intend BaseVector to be nothing more than an implementation detail. This works, but I am concerned about operator+=. My question is: is the dynamic cast of the this pointer a code smell? Is there a better way to achieve what I am trying to do (avoid code duplication, and unnecessary casts in the user code)? Or am I safe since, the BaseVector constructor is private?
