• Windows shared printers: Process job on server machine, not the client

  Hi. While working with Linux clients to Windows SMB/CIFS filesharing servers, from time to time I find myself having to print to a printer with no drivers available under Linux. For some reason, the Windows computer expects the job to be sent in an already processed format, so it can be fed directly to the printer in its own, weird language. It would be great if I could send the print job in Postscript or other standard format to the Windows computer sharing this printer, and then this PS could be processed under Windows. Is there a way to accomplish this? Because I don't seem to find the option. Thanks a lot.

• Reputable web based ssh client? [closed]

  I'm connected to a coffee shop's wireless network right now, and I suspected I'd be able to use my laptop and ssh somewhere. Unlucky me they seem to be blocking everything but web traffic (my testing seems to show everything but port 80 is working, can't ping, ftp, etc). I googled "web based ssh clients" however I have reservations about entering my login credentials on any Joe Schmoe's web app. I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with any reputable web based ssh clients? If so could you please point me at one that I could trust?

I am frustrated of not having a good Linux GUI administration and development tool for PostgreSQL. pgAdmin III is buggy and unusable piece of... hmm, software, compared to Windows-only PostgreSQL Maestro and EMS PostgreSQL manager. phpPgaAmin does not looks promising. EMS PostgreSQL manager can work under Wine, but such setup have a number of issues. Requirements are: Table data editing and browsing for large tables (1M+), able to jump by FK or some master-slave editing, GUI filtering and so on. ER diagrams with in-place schema editing Schema editing and browsing with all useful GUI support Schema changes log to put into DB versioning (migrations script). Tabbed interface to be able to work with a number of tables and SQL queries at once. And so on. Any ideas?

• NIS client cannot find NIS server (Opensuse)

  I installed NIS server on head node of a virtual cluster(VirtualBox). One of the node (let's say node-1) can find NIS server and work with it, but another node (node-2) just can't find the NIS server in Yast while it can ping and ssh to both head node and node-1. BTW, all the nodes are VMs, head node and node-1 are on the same physical machine, node-2 is on another physical machine. I set the domain name in /etc/hosts and /etc/yp.conf, and ypwhich sometimes gives the correct domainname several minutes later complains about "ypwhich: Can't communicate with ypbind", and will back to work after some time. Also tried rpcinfo -p hostname and it worked as expected. I almost tried every thing I can find on internet, but seems that not many people had this problem. Any help would be very appreciated.

• OpenSwan (IPSEC) on Fedora 13 with Snow Leopard as a client

  I recently installed OpenSwan on my Fedora 13 machine. I want to use it to connect with Mac OS X with L2TP over IPSEC, unfortunately I am already stuck on the IPSEC-negotation part. My server is running behind a NATted firewall so my external IP differs from the server's IP. The server has a fixed IP on the network and the same is almost always valid for the clients (they are usually behind a NATted firewall). I installed OpenSwan on Fedora 13 and have following configuration: config setup protostack=netkey nat_traversal=yes virtual_private=%v4:10.0.0.0/8,%v4:192.168.0.0/16,%v4:172.16.0.0/12 oe=off nhelpers=0 conn L2TP-PSK-NAT rightsubnet=vhost:%priv also=L2TP-PSK-noNAT conn L2TP-PSK-noNAT authby=secret pfs=no auto=add keyingtries=3 rekey=no ikelifetime=8h keylife=1h type=transport left=my.servers.external.ip leftprotoport=17/1701 right=%any rightprotoport=17/0 IPSEC starts fine and listens to UDP 500 and 4500. These two ports are opened in the firewall and are forwarded fine to the server. • Some clients cannot connect to Server 2008 R2 VPN

  Hi all, Have a server 2008 r2 setup as a VPN server. We have created a windows group to control access to the VPN called vpn-users. Clients are all Windows 7 Pro. This all seems to work fine except some users cannot connect to the VPN! For example I try to logon to the VPN from a client and get an error saying the server refused the connect due to a policy in place. Specifically authentication type! Fine I think. So i drop that user into the vpn-users group created for this and try again and hey presto the user can now logon! Great. Now try this with another user. But this time I get the same error even though I have dropped them into the vpn-users group!! So does anyone have any idea why this works for some users and not for others?? I have tried moving the user from certain OU's in AD to others, copying the account, taking the user out of the vpn-users group and then back in but get the same error each time. Any thoughts anyone?

• Sharing hp Deskjet F380 using cups via http driver issues with xp client

  Hi the problem is xp doesn't have built in drivers for my printer but vista does. On vista it works perfectly without any issues. However when I try using xp, it insists that I select a driver from the selection xp offers by default. The drivers I've downloaded from HP don't support networking. Hp have stated they're non networkable. Is there anything I can do about this? Any help is greatly appreciated and would save me getting ear ache!

• Cannot access domain from windows 2003 client

  Hey all, First off I am a novice at AD and DNS so please bear with me. This is my current situation: I have one server which is a DC and DNS server (win2k3) - Machine 1. I have another machine which is trying to join this domain - Machine2. This machine is also a win2k3 server. This is what I have done so far: I have setup DNS on the DC and its tcp/ip dns is pointing to itself. On machine2 I have set its dns to point to the dc. The DNS has been setup with a forward lookup zone with the same name as the domain (accdirect.com). I can ping machine1 from the machine2 by its FQDN and ip. I have set up forwarders on the DC for our ISP dns and can browse the internet on both machines. In the DNS mmc on the DC I can see a host (A) has been created for machine2. The problem is I still cannot join the domain. When I try join the domain via my computer - properties then it brings up the username/password box and after I go "ok" it says cannot find domain accdirect.com If I run this from machine2 dcdiag /s:accdirect.com /u:accdirect.com\admin /p: then I get the following: Performing initial setup: ** Warning: could not confirm the identity of this server in the directory versus the names returned by DNS servers. If there are problems accessing this directory server then you may need to check that this server is correctly registered with DNS [accdirect.com] Directory Binding Error 1722: Win32 Error 1722 This may limit some of the tests that can be performed. Done gathering initial info. On the dc all dcdiag and netdiag results pass. If anyone could help me I would really appreciate this! • nxclient crashes when trying to open a terminal from a remote client through "ssh -Y"

  I support around 150 linux machines. I have 2 virtual machines on an ESXi server which I access via nxmachine v3 from a windows 7 box. These machines run CentOS5 with KDE and Lubuntu12.04.1 and they are the admin GUIs from which I support the 150 machines. The linux machines which I manage are redhat4/5, CentOS5 and ubuntu 10 and 12. Normally I contact the machines via ssh -Y. Today I did an ssh -Y to a remote machine which is running Ubuntu 12.10 and ssh 6.0p1. Then I tried to open an lxterminal on the remote machine which should display on my KDE desktop. This immediately and reproducably crashed my nxclient session. I tried again from my lubuntu system with the same effect. I have not observed the phenomenon from other machines yet. The message log on my KDE host shows: Unexpected termination of nxagent because of signal: 11 Logger::log nxnode 3920 Googling for this revealed no usable answer. Does anybody have a clue what is going on here or can give a hint how to solve the issue? Add On: I asked the user at the remote machine to export his DISPLAY to my host and open an lxterminal. This worked without problems i. e. the nxclient did not crash. Then the user tried to send me xeyes and this also killed the nxclient with the same error message found in the message log as above. This makes me suspect that the problem is not solely connected to ssh but maybe to some library stuff.

• Managing multiple IMAP accounts in Thunderbird

  I've been using Thunderbird for years without issues with 20+ pop3 accounts. I'm moving over to imap which will enable me to keep copies of the emails locally and on the server whilst keeping everthing synchronised. However I'm looking for the best way to manage multiple imap accounts on Thunderbird. Currently I have a filter that copies all the emails into a central inbox and into seperate local folders. The reason for this is I go through my inbox daily and delete all emails that don't require any action. I move any emails that require action to my "action" imap account folder. This way I can syncronise all the emails that require action across multiple computers (and mobile devices). This technique is my implemantion of the GTD or Getting things Done philosophy. I also copy over each email into seperate local folders. The reason I do this is just in case any emails on the imap accounts get deleted, or something drastic happens on the server which means I lose all the emails. My business partner has access to some of these emails and still uses pop3 (with "leave copy on server" checked), but I know sometimes Thunderbird can still delete emails off the server sometimes. The problem with the above is that thunderbird gives me the dreaded error dialogue saying that the emails cannot be filtered due to another process. I find the folder list in Thunderbird hard to manage. Here is a screenshot of part of my folder list- as you can see it's a bit of a complicated list and not easy to manage: What would be the best way of me managing multiple imap accounts whilst allowing me to have copies put in a central folder and emails in local folders? It would be useful if people think this is necessary, as perhaps there is a betterway? How do people manage multiple imap accounts in a way that allows them to keep on top of actionable emails? I'd be interested in how others manage this. I've never used the Thunderbird-based client "Postbox", does this handle multiple imaps better?

  I have a server that I have technicians who need to be able to access using shared credentials. However, doing that violates our security policy (!). I need each user to be able to authenticate using their own credentials, but the server in question has to be logged in with a certain login (these two requirements are clearly diametrically opposed). I thought that this would be a great application for a RADIUS server. I know how to setup RADIUS to go from Windows -- Cisco, but I have no idea how to use RADIUS to authenticate Windows -- Windows. Can this be done? If so, how?

The problem is: the message send from Postfix has header: X-MS-Exchange-Organization-AuthAs: Anonymous and the message is treated like unAuthenicated message on Exchange system (i.e when sending to distribution group require senders are authenicated, I received error: #550 5.7.1 RESOLVER.RST.AuthRequired; authentication required ##rfc822;[email protected]). I using Outlook with the same account as in Postfix and it can send without problem. The different I realized between two case is: Outlook send with NTLM auth mech, Postfix using LOGIN mech. Any idea?

  My employer switched from vpn and rdp to using what our admin calls "rdp over https". Since that switch I find myself unable to connect to the "new" rdp server. I think the progress is as follows: A rdp gateway-server is connected via tls the requested sever (different from the gateway-server) is then connected through the tls connection. In windows mstsc-settings the server name is the "internal network name" of the machine I wish to connect. And on the last tab (in German it is called "leistung" - could be activity) I go to the "connection from everywhere" settings and set the gateway-server under gateway-server. Now: Is there any way to use this scenario under linux (apart from a virtual machine running Windows)? I am interested in free ideas (e.g. is it possible to create a tls tunnel and connect through that using freerdp/rdesktop?) non-free ideas. As long as they work I'll worry about the costs later. Free ideas would be better :-)

  One day instead of connecting to the database my SQL Server Management gave me the following error: "Data Source name not found & no default driver found" Note it had been working for several years before this, all that had changed was an upgrade to Office (97 -2000) and the monthly Windows patches. I tried rebooting, re-installing both the SQL Server 2000 and 2005 clients on the machine but no joy. I can access the database(s) from other machines.

  Hi, I'm experiencing intermittent connection errors in our home network from two different computers, normally "Connection Reset" when browsing, but also other issues such as very slow throughput. I have approximately a network setup as below: ISP-Cable Modem-Dlink DIR 655 Router-(Ethernet)-Fon Router-Mac/Windows laptop Basically, is there a simple way to monitor the network and detect where issues are coming from? Right now we don't know if it is the Fon router, the Dlink router, the modem or the ISP. As the issue is intermittent, is there a software that regularly traceroutes a set of destinations and tests e.g. throughput, something that can help us figure out where in the chain the errors are introduced? The more automatic network monitor, the better.

  Could you please recommend a secure FTP solution for updating files on a remote windows server from windows workstations? We would like to replace the FTP-based workflow with a secure FTP one. Windows Server 2003 on the remotely hosted webserver, WinXP on the workstations. We manage the files via Dreamweaver's built-in FTP. My understanding is Dreamweaver supports sFTP out of the box so I guess I am looking for a good sFTP server for Windows Server 2003. Ideally, that would not require cygwin. Ideally, the solution would use authentication based on the existing windows accounts and permissions. Thank you!
