• Guiding a Robot Through a Path

  I have a field filled with obstacles, I know where they are located, and I know the robot's position. Using a path-finding algorithm, I calculate a path for the robot to follow. Now my problem is, I am guiding the robot from grid to grid but this creates a not-so-smooth motion. I start at A, turn the nose to point B, move straight until I reach point B, rinse and repeat until the final point is reached. So my question is: What kind of techniques are used for navigating in such an environment so that I get a smooth motion? The robot has two wheels and two motors. I change the direction of the motor by turning the motors in reverse. EDIT: I can vary the speed of the motors basically the robot is an arduino plus ardumoto, I can supply values between 0-255 to the motors on either direction.

• Does any one know of a packet generator?

  We have a networked device, and we would like to perform some tests on how it handles malformed packets. Is there a product out there that can generate arbitrary packets and packet sequences? I would like to be able to specify a set of TCP/IP payloads and it would open a connection and send the data. Obviouly, the TCP/IP checksum should be calculated correctly, etc... Kind of like a wireshark in reverse. Note that I am not interested in network loading and blasting millions of packet.

  Suppose I have a vector<int> myvec and I want to loop through all of the elements in reverse. I can think of a few ways of doing this: for (vector<int>::iterator it = myvec.end() - 1; it >= myvec.begin(); --it) { // do stuff here } for (vector<int>::reverse_iterator rit = myvec.rbegin(); rit != myvec.rend(); ++rit) { // do stuff here } for (int i = myvec.size() - 1; i >= 0; --i) { // do stuff here } So my question is when should I use each? Is there a difference? I know that the first one is dangerous because if I pass in an empty vector, then myvec.end() - 1 is undefined, but are there any other hazards or inefficiencies with this?

This works, but I can't access this value on the page from a non-jQuery function? The reverse is also true, if I scope it in JavaScript e.g. <script type="text/javascript"> var fieldCounter = 0; I can access it from javascript but jQuery can't view it? I'm probably doing something really dumb?

  I thought of a solution but it runs in O(n^2) time Algo 1: Steps: Its a brute force method Have 2 for loops for i = 1 to i less than array.length -1 for j=i+1 to j less than array.length This way you can get substring of every possible combination from the array Have a palindrome function which checks if a string is palindrome so for every substring (i,j) call this function, if it is a palindrome store it in a string variable If you find next palindrome substring and if it is greater than the current one, replace it with current one. Finally your string variable will have the answer Issues: 1. This algo runs in O(n^2) time. Algo 2: Reverse the string and store it in diferent array Now find the largest matching substring between both the array But this too runs in O(n^2) time Can you guys think of an algo which runs in a better time. • Windows 7 task bar stuck in hiding, how to fix?

  In Windows 7, I use the "Auto-hide the task bar" feature. Usually, it works fine: As soon as the pointer touches the screen bottom, the task bar pops up. However sometimes, it refuses to rise. Pressing the "Windows" key (or Ctrl-ESC) makes the start menu appear, forcing the task bar from hinding as well. Once I've done this, the task-bar auto-rises again. This is annoying, it interrupts flow. Has anyone else noticed this? How do I avoid this? If my memory serves correctly, I have seen this behavior on earlier versions of Windows as well, XP at least. To reproduce this behavior, I tried switching between apps, and bringing apps to open other windows. I am unable to reproduce this behavior so far. So far, it appears to happen out of the blue, sometimes multiple times a day. Looks like a bug to me. The task bar should raise no matter what.

• Help setting up an secondary authoritative DNS server.

  We have three Authoritative DNS servers and three recursive/caching DNS servers on my campus. Authoritative servers DNS1- Windows 2003 DNS2- Old Red Hat ----- Replacing w/ newer version DNS3- Windows 2008 (I installed) Caching and Recursive resolvers servers Server1- Windows 2003 Server2- CentOS 5.2 (I installed) Server3- CentOS 5.3 (I installed) I am replacing DNS2 with a newer Red Hat version, but have no documentation on how it was implemented. I have setup caching and windows authoritative servers, but not a linux secondary authoritative server. I have a perl script from the original server that pulls data from our DNS1 server. We use DJBDNS and TinyDNS on our linux servers. Our Network Engineer says the DNS2 server I am replacing is an authoritative server that doesn't need to be caching, but the only instructions I see is for an Authoritative server that does caching as well. Can someone point me in the right directions. I thought I was on the right track with using these instructions but when I query my new dns server I get "No response from server", I have temporarily disabled iptables to eliminate it from being an issue. ps -aux | grep dns avahi 3493 0.0 0.2 2600 1272 ? • Convert mediawiki to LaTeX syntax

  I need to convert mediawiki into LaTeX syntax. The formulas should stay the same, but I need to transform, for example = something = into \chapter{something}. Although this can be obtained with a bit of sed, things get a little dirty with the itemize environment, so I was wondering if a better solution can be produced. Anything that can be useful for this task ? This is the reverse of this question (graciously copied). Pandoc was the answer to that question, but probably not yet for this.

• How to render the properties of the view model's base class first when using ViewData.ModelMetadata.

  When I use the ViewData.ModelMetadata.Properties in order to loop the properties (with an additional Where(modelMetadata => modelMetadata.ShowForEdit && !ViewData.TemplateInfo.Visited(modelMetadata))), and thereby create a generic edit view, the properties of the view model's base class are rendered last. Is it possible to use a clever OrderBy() or is there another way to first get the properties of the base class, and then the sub class'? Reverse won't do the trick since the ordering of each class' properties is perfectly fine. A workaround would of course be composition + delegation, but since we don't have mixins, it's too un-DRY IMHO, why I seek a better solution if possible.

• Haskell optimization of a function looking for a bytestring terminator

  Profiling of some code showed that about 65% of the time I was inside the following code. What it does is use the Data.Binary.Get monad to walk through a bytestring looking for the terminator. If it detects 0xff, it checks if the next byte is 0x00. If it is, it drops the 0x00 and continues. If it is not 0x00, then it drops both bytes and the resulting list of bytes is converted to a bytestring and returned. Any obvious ways to optimize this? • Obfuscate strings in Python

  I have a password string that must be passed to a method. Everything works fine but I don't feel comfortable storing the password in clear text. Is there a way to obfuscate the string or to truly encrypt it? I'm aware that obfuscation can be reverse engineered, but I think I should at least try to cover up the password a bit. At the very least it wont be visible to a indexing program, or a stray eye giving a quick look at my code. I am aware of pyobfuscate but I don't want the whole program obfuscated, just one string and possibly the whole line itself where the variable is defined. Target platform is GNU Linux Generic (If that makes a difference)

• Python: Remove items from a list while iterating in Python

  My problem is simple: I have a long list of elements that I want to iterate through and check every element against a condition. Depending on the outcome of the condition I would like to delete the current element of the list, and continue iterating over it as usual. I have read a few other threads on this matter. Two solutions seam to be proposed. Either make a dictionary out of the list (which implies making a copy of all the data that is already filling all the RAM in my case). Either walk the list in reverse (which breaks the concept of the alogrithm I want to implement). • jQuery UI blind effect - reveal from bottom

  This could be really obvious and I'm completely missing it. I've searched for hours and can't seem to find a way to, using jQuery, reveal a hidden div from the bottom up. What I am trying to achieve is exactly as in the following link, but in reverse: http://jqueryui.com/demos/show/ I can slide a div from the bottom to the top, but this reveals itself as it moves, rather than being 'masked' in. Like I said, this could (should?) be really obvious and I'm not seeing it, but I've been looking for ages and can't find a solution to this relatively simple problem. Thanks, Ronnie

• Delphi Clientdataset Lookup/Aggregate

  Hi, I need a little help with ClientDatasets in Delphi. What I want to achieve is a grid showing customers, where one of the columns shows the number of orders for each customer. I put a ClientDataset on a form and load Customers.xml from Delphi demo-data. Another ClienDataset is loaded with orders.xml. Relatively simple, I can define an aggregate on the orders CDS showing the total amount per customer (or the count). (See Cary Jensens article on this: http://edn.embarcadero.com/article/29272) The problem is getting this aggregate result from orders dataset into the customer dataset. It is kind of an reverse lookup, since there is a 1-n relationship between customers and orders, not an n-1 as normally in lookup scenarios. Any ideas ? Søren

(english.php, spanish.php) The problem I'm having is that if I use the plain text version of eg. "á", it will show up in the browser tab title ok, but as a ? in the body of the page. • Registry corrupted for testing?

  Hi. Forgive my ignorance. I'm a lowly LAMP stack developer and this is my first post for "c++". We had an Internet Explorer add-on commissioned but then lost support. Allegedly each version has to be have been tested "on a fresh computer since old add-ons could have cause registry errors." I'm not familiar with IE add-on development (or c++ dev). Is this common? Can't one simply reverse registry errors? How to continue testing iterations on one machine? Thanks!

• Draw text on a loaded pdf file with Zend Framework

  Hello, I'm trying to load a existing pdf file, and fill this with database information. Loading the file and everything is working, except for writing data to the loaded page. It doesn't write text to the loaded page. If I add a new page en use a foreach to apply drawing to all pages, all added pages are written, except for the loaded one. • In Django, how to create tables from an SQL file when syncdb is run

  Hi, How do I make syncdb execute SQL queries (for table creation) defined by me, rather then generating tables automatically. I'm looking for this solution as some particular models in my app represent SQL-table-views for a legacy-database table. So, I've created their SQL-views in my django-DB like this: CREATE VIEW legacy_series AS SELECT * FROM legacy.series; I have a reverse engineered model that represents the above view/legacytable. But whenever I run syncdb, I have to create all the views first by running sql scripts, otherwise syncdb simply creates tables for them (if a view is not found). How do I make syncdb run the above mentioned SQL?

  I have a form (Quote) with an auto-number ID, on the form at the moment are two subforms that show different items (sub 1 shows partition modules sub 2 shows partition abutments) both forms use the same parts tables to build them. Both forms are linked to the quote form using the ID. All works well until the forms is refreshed or re-loaded, subform 1 shows the module names and quantities and blank spaces for the abutment names but shows the quantiews for the abutments, the reverse of this is shown in the abutments subform 2. When the lists for the variuos types and the detailed parts lists are printed they are correct. This seems to be only a visual problem. All based on Access 2003. • Rename Active Directory domain following Windows 2000 -> 2008 migration.

  I'm working with a site that needs an internal DNS domain rename. It currently has a DNS name of domain.abc.com and NT name of ABC. I'm trying to get to a DNS name of abctrading.com and NT name of ABCTRADING. Split DNS would be used. The site originally ran from a single Windows 2000 domain controller hosting AD, file, print, DHCP and DNS services. There was no Exchange system in the environment. The 50 client PCs are all Windows XP with a handful of users using roaming profiles. All users are in a single OU and there are no group policy/GPOs. I'm a Linux engineer, but have been trying to guide another group of consultants to reach a more suitable setup. With the help of this group, we were able to move the single Windows 2000 system to a set of Windows 2008 R2 servers separated into domain controller and file/print systems (virtualized). We are also trying to add an Exchange 2010 system to this mix. The Windows 2000 server was demoted and is no longer in the picture. This is the tricky part, as client wants the domain renamed and the consultants aren't quite sure how to get through it without another 32-40 hours of testing/implementation. THey say that there's considerable risk to do the rename without a completely isolated test environment. However, this rename has to be done before installing Exchange. So we're stuck at this point. I'd like to know what's involved in renaming the domain at this point. We're on Windows Server 2008. The AD is healthy now. Coming from a Linux background, it seems as though there should be a reasonable path to this. Also, since the original domain appears to be a child/subdomain, would that be a problem here. I'd appreciate any guidance.

• Function that copies into byte vector reverses values

  Hey, I've written a function to copy any variable type into a byte vector, however whenever I insert something it gets inserted in reverse. Here's the code. template <class Type> void Packet::copyToByte(Type input, vector<uint8_t>&output) { copy((uint8_t*) &input, ((uint8_t*) &input) + sizeof(Type), back_inserter(output)); } Now whenever I add for example a uint16_t with the value 0x2f1f it gets inserted as 1f 2f instead of the expected 2f 1f.   I have a figure in LaTeX with a caption to which I need to add a formula (equation* or displaymath environments). • Converting IPv4 or IPv6 address to a long for comparisons

  In order to check if an IPv4 or IPv6 address is within a certain range, I've got code that takes an IPv4 address, turns that into a long, then does that same conversion on the upper/lower bound of the subnet, then checks to see if the long is between those values. • Trying to establish remote debug with visual studio running inside vmpalyer

  i have this configuration a visual studio running inside virtual machine. the host machine has xp on it and so does the virtual machine. i have to run remote debug on the third machine which is connected to the host machine. i m currently facing this problem i m not able to ping my virtual machine from my host machine, however reverse is possible. how to resolve that? both my machine are on same workgroup (not domain, arent they both same?)
