• Where can I go to learn how to read a sql server execution plan?

I'm a long time developer, with tons of sql server experience, but I've never really learned how to really understand what an execution plan is saying to me. I guess I'm looking for links, books, anything that can describe things like whether a clustered index scan is good or bad along with examples on how to fix issues.

• Puppet exported resource naming

  I am working on setting up a collection of Splunk nodes to be deployed by Puppet. One of the steps in this process is importing the trusts to allow these nodes to automatically find each other. I've looked over several options and it appears that exported resources are the only ready way to go for this to work. The files I need to create are under /opt/splunk/etc/auth/distServerKeys//trusted.pem. The source for each of these files should be /opt/splunk/etc/auth/distServerKeys/trusted.pem, one per node. What syntax do I need to make this work? The samples I've looked at all appear to have the same source and destination file name.

• Using a Dell PowerConnect to set up load balancing/redundancy, 1 switch 2 routres 2 private wan link

  Hi, We have different locations connected by two different WAN providers. Each site has a dell powerConnect 6224 and two cisco routers with the WAN connections (we don’t have access to router admin). The 6224 connects to each cisco LAN port and to our LAN backbone. We would like the 6224 provide the ip gateway address and load balance and support redundancy, if one of the routes fail. Is this possible?. We can't find any samples on doing this and we have tried with no success. Any help or link to documentation regarding this, will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, MarianoC

  What I need to do is a program that given (as a command line argument) a directory with more directoreies inside, and 4 Pics inside of each dir, the program makes a thumbnail of the 4 files and glues them together (2 rows, 2 columns) and renames that image to the name of the directory.   I've been testing deployment for a website with some virtual servers. I have most of my deployment steps done via kickstart file (package installation and user creation). However, for MySQL I have to: Run mysql_secure_installation (sets up root password, deletes anonymous users, disallows root login remotely, removes test databases) ./ Then, create the website's databases and the database user. I'm not sure if this is possible in kickstart---especially the prompts in mysql_secure_installation. Perhaps someone has some suggestions or examples?

This because there are more jobs for system/network administrators in the area I live. Right now I am using virtual machines to learn how windows 2008/2012 works and to build labs with.   I feel shy to ask this question, but if I don't I will never know, so here I am giving it a shot: I notice most shell commands use "-" for options, but I also noticed some commands do not have it. For example, to archive files in a given direct, the command is: tar czvf allmyfiles.tar.gz * However, to extract an archive, the command I learned, is: tar -zxvf allmyfiles.tar.gz Looking at both examples above, is there any significance whether to include the hyphen or not?

At What value of % Error, I can say system reached the Breaking point.I used concurrent users 300, 400, 500 in a PHP website. Should I consider any other parameter to determine breaking point. How many maximum concurrent users my application can support?

  Is there a way, using Windows GPO, to set up a list of "default" mapped drives that can be applied to a group of users? I runs small network and would like to make sure that certain groups of users (like Sales or Support) have the same network shares mapped to the same drive letters irrespective of which PC they log onto. • Calling a WCF service from another WCF service

  Hi ! I have a WCF service hosted on a windows service on my Server1. It also has IIS on this machine. I call the service from a web app and it works fine. But within this service, I have to call another WCF sevice (also hosted on a windows service) located on Server2. The security credentials are set to "Message" and "Username". I have an error like "SOAP protcol negociation failed". It's a problem with my server certificate public key that doesn't seem to be recognise. However, if I call the service on the Server2 from Server1 in a console app, it works fine. What I did: Downloaded Tomcat 6.0.26 & Spring 3.0.1 Downloaded PetClinic from https://src.springframework.org/svn/spring-samples/petclinic Built & deployed petclinic.war. Ran fine with default TopLink persistence. Edited webapps/WEB-INF/spring/applicationContext-jpa.xml and changed jpaVendorAdaptor from TopLink to Hibernate. Edited webapps/WEB-INF/web.xml and changed context-param from applicationContext-jdbc.xml to applicationContext-jpa.xml Copied everything in the Spring 3.0.1 distribution to TOMCAT_HOME/lib. Launched tomcat. Saw Caused by: java.lang.IllegalStateException: ClassLoader [org.apache.catalina.loader.WebappClassLoader] does NOT provide an 'addTransformer(ClassFileTransformer)' method. Specify a custom LoadTimeWeaver or start your Java virtual machine with Spring's agent: -javaagent:spring-agent.jar Uncommented line <Loader loaderClass="org.springframework.instrument.classloading.tomcat.TomcatInstrumentableClassLoader"/> in webapps/META-INF/context.xml. Same error. Added that line to TOMCAT_HOME/context.xml Deployed without error.
