• Problem with Gallio and TeamCity and the new Visual Studio 2010 release

  I am running TeamCity on a virtual machine. I have installed the new Visual Studio 2010 release yesterday and converted my VS 2008 projects. I also have installed .NET Framework 4 on my virtual machine. Before yesterday all my projects were building succesfully on the CI server but since I installed VS 2010 I get the following error message : error MSB5014: File format version is not recognized. MSBuild can only read solution files between versions 7.0 and 9.0, inclusive. I did change my config on Team City to take into account the new .NET 4 framework : Build Runner : MSBuild Build File Path : CFT.msbuild MSBuild version : Microsoft.NET Framework 4.0 MSBuild ToolsVersion : 4.0 Run Platform : x86 I think it has something to do with the fact that now MSBuild must refer to .NET 4 framwork but it seems that it keeps refering to 2.0.

• ColdFusion Server crash after thousands of HTTP requests

  We are running ColdFusion 8 on a windows server 2003 VPS with an API that exposes student records to a partner API through a connector. Our API returns around 50k student records serialized in XML format pretty seamlessly. My question originates when something very frightening happened today when we tested our connector to our partners API. Our entire website and web host went down. We assumed that our host was just having some issues and after 4 hours with no resolution and no response from their customer service we finally got a response from them claiming that they had an "unauthorized user" in their network. After our server was back up we were unable to connect to our website as if the web service or coldfusion itself had froze. This is really where my concern comes from as I fear we may have overloaded the web service. As I mentioned before we tried sending over 50k HTTP POST requests over to our partner's API, however everything stopped after around 1.6k Is this bad practice or is there some sort of rate limiting I can relax somewhere in server configuration? We managed to find a workaround, but it bypasses our connector which is critical to our design. This would have been a one time deal as the purpose of so many requests was to populate our partner's website with current data, after that hourly syncs will keep requests down to around 100 per hour. UPDATE Our partner API is owned and operated by Pardot. We are converting students to prospects by passing student data to their API which unfortunately only seems to accept one student at a time. For that reason we have to do all 50k requests individually. Our server has 4GB of RAM, an Intel Core 2 Duo @ 2.8GHz running Windows Server 2003 SP2. I monitored the server during a 100 student sync, a 400 student sync, and a 1.4k student sync with the following results: 100 students - 2.25GB of Memory, 30-40% CPU utilization, 0.2-0.3% network bandwidth 400 students - 2.30GB of Memory, 30-50% CPU utilization, 0.2-1.0% network bandwidth 1.4k students - 2.30GB of Memory, 30-70% CPU utilization, 0.2-1.0% network bandwidth I know this is a far cry from 50k students, but I don't want to risk taking down our CMS system again assuming that was the cause. • SQL 2003 Distance Latitude Longitude

  I have a table full of Dealers along with their latitude and longitude. I am trying to determine the top n closest dealers to any given lat and lon. I already have the function to calculate distance between locations, but I want to do as few calculations as possible (my table can contain many thousands of entries). Currently I have to calculate the distance for each entry then sort them. Is there any way to sort before I do the calculation to improve performance? This question is good, but I will not always know my range. Should I just pick an arbitrarily high range then refine my results? • Jquery.form plugin and jquery.validation and it's submitHandler not working correctly... please help

  Hello guys, I was hoping someone can shed some light on what might be occurring on my page. Okay what I currently have on my page is a simple form that collects first name, last name, city, state and email. Once submitted it will hit a PHP page that updates our DB and echo's back to the designted div with a class of .response. I am using jquery.validation and placing that dynamic function within the submitHandler like so: submitHandler: function(form) { $(form).ajaxSubmit({ target: '.response', // target element(s) to be updated with server response resetForm: true, success: function() { $('#commentform').hide(); $('.response').show(); } }); So what I am getting is a div that is not being populated with the echo from my php file in FF and in IE I am getting the message of thank you but the page is taking me to the update.php script in which I have the form action pointing to.   geonames.org got a web api you can use to get all the hierarchy for a city. you just enter the id and you will get the data back in xml. http://ws.geonames.org/hierarchy?geonameId=2657896 i wonder how you fetch the url with php and javascript, and which one should i use. cause the id's are in the mysql database. i will get them with php. should i use file_get_contents, curl or fopen? and what function in javascript? jquery $.post? heard that it can only access localhost. would be great with some guidance here and even better with some code examples. thanks!

• free geolocation geoip, are they viable?

  I'm trying to get a visitor's location based on their IP, pretty common stuff. My research so far shows that there's a database from MaxMind that costs $370 + $90/month... not the type of cost I can afford. Then there's a free version called GeoLite City. Anyone used these before? Drop a quick line here please. Why is one free and the answer so expensive. Is the free one usable, is it not as accurate, what's the catch? P.S. Any other suggestions are welcome.

• Question about mail merge in DesignPro 1.0.1 for mac

  I'm using Avery DesignPro v. 1.0.1 for mac to print out address labels using a mail merge. There are two columns for addresses (Address1 and Address2), but for most of the entries on the list, Address2 is blank. When I do the mail merge, I get several address labels with a blank line between Address1 and the City, State line because there's no Address2 for those entries. Does anyone know of a way to get DesignPro to ignore Address2 completely if there's no value there, or will I have to go through and manually edit each label to delete the extra blank line?

• Guessing the time zone from an arbitrary "location" string?

  I'm trying to run some statistics over the Stack Overflow data dump, and for that I would like to know the time zone for each user. However, all I have to go on is the completely free-form "location" string. I'll stress that I'm only looking for an approximation of the time zone; of course, in general this is an unsolvable problem. However, many people fill out their country, state and/or city, which should give a pretty good indication. It's okay if it fails for other cases. It doesn't have to be reliable, it doesn't have to be accurate, it doesn't have to cover all bases. I don't want to waste too much time on this, so I'm wondering if there is some code out there that can make a reasonable guess. Any language, platform, API or library goes. Any ideas?

  In Linq Dynamic Query, Scott Guthrie shows an example Linq query: var query = db.Customers. Where("City == @0 and Orders.Count >= @1", "London", 10). OrderBy("CompanyName"). Select("new( CompanyName as Name, Phone)"); Notice the projection new( CompanyName as Name, Phone). If I have a class like this: public class CompanyContact { public string Name {get;set;} public string Phone {get;set;} } How could I essentially "cast" his result using the CompanyContact data type without doing a foreach on each record and dumping it in to a different data structure? To my knowledge the only .Select available is the Dymanic Query version which only takes a string and parameter list.

I have to write an update query which updates all the occurence of zipcode 4994 to 1234 throughout the database. update zipcodes,customers,employees set zip = 0 where customers.zip = zipcodes.zip and employees.zip = zipcodes.zip; but i know i am not doing it right. Is there a way to update all the tables zip ina single update query?

• speed up a sql query to mysql?

  in my mysql database i've got the geonames database, containing all countries, states and cities. i am using this to create a cascading menu so the user could select where he is from: country - state - county - city. but the main problem is that the query will search through all the 7 millions rows in that table each time i want to get the list of children rows, and that is taking a while 10-15 seconds. i wonder how i could speed this up: caching? table views? reorganizing table structure somehow? and most important, how do i do these things? are there good tutorials you could link to me? i appreciate all help and feedback discussing smart ways of handling this issue!

  I publish discount offers for my city. Offer models are passed to template ( ~15 offers per page). In django code it is possible to use select_related to prepopulate needed values, how can i decrease number of requests in template?

• How to find connected hosts at network (vpn or lan)

  Hello, I'm looking for possible solutions to the following need: I have a VPN configured (using openVPN over Linux, BTW), and I want to know at any moment which hosts are connected to it. I recognize that it probably is the same thing as trying to know which hosts are connected to a lan, so any of the solutions might do the job... The fact is that I once used a hamachi vpn on linux and with it I had the chance to know which hosts were connected to a particular network where I belonged, so I was wondering if something similar might be possible in openVPN (or even any VPN and/or any LAN). Preferably, I'm looking for opensource/free sw solutions, or maybe the hints to program it myself (in the most simple way if possible, not that I don't know how to program, but I'm trying to achieve this in a simple manner). • Geographical ontologies ready to use?

  Hi all, I'm looking for an ontology containing geographical knowledge. In particular I'd like to have these types of information: political states / regions / cities / city areas geographical regions (e.g. continents, name of mountains, lakes, etc) For example, starting from the node "New York" I'd like to be able to find parents like the New York state, the USA etc, and children like Manhattan, Bronx, etc. I couldn't find anything open-source/free to use. I know that a lot of researchers extract such information from Wikipedia, but I couldn't find any off-the-shelf packages to use. I also checked OpenStreetMap, which is great for the amount of data but doesn't seem to contain a proper geographical ontology. Even a web service would be good! Any hints? Mulone

After he returns the book, I delete that entry and I make another one entry in HISTORY table. Is this a good idea? Do I brake any rule? Should I have instead one single BORROWING table with a DATE_OF_RETURNING column?

• how to load an image to a grid using pygame, instead of just using a fill color?

  I am trying to create a "map of a city" using pygame. I want to be able to put images of buildings in specific grid coords rather than just filling them in with a color.   I added a new query to a table adapter in a DataSet. This query adds another field to the query whcih is a sum from another table. Here is the full query: SELECT (SELECT COUNT(donationID) AS Expr1 FROM Donations AS da WHERE (dn.donorID = donorID)) AS Count, Solicitor, address1, address2, city, companyName, country, donorID, email, first, last, phoneHome, phoneMobile, phoneWork, state, webURL, zip, (select sum(amount) from Donations as dna where dna.donorID = dn.donorID) as SumDonations FROM Donors AS dn order by last The new field is represented in the last part of the query: (select sum(amount) from Donations as dna where dna.donorID = dn.donorID) as SumDonations I can preview the data in the xsd but the last field "SumDonations" is not showing up as a field I can add to my gridview. I rebuilt the website but no luck. What am I missing?

  hi my dear friends i have a little problem about using jquery...(i reeally do not know jquery but i forced to use it) i am using vs 2008 - asp.net web app with c# also i am using telerik controls in my pages also i am using sqldatasources (Connecting to storedprocedures) in my pages my pages base on master and content pages and in content pages i have mutiviews ================================================================================= in one of the views(inside one of those multiviews)i had made two radcombo boxes for country and city requirement like cascading dropdowns as parent and child combo boxes. i used old way for doing that , i mean i used update panel and in the SelectedIndexChange Event of Parent RadComboBox(Country) i Wrote this code : protected void RadcomboboxCountry_SelectedIndexChanged(object o, RadComboBoxSelectedIndexChangedEventArgs e) { hfSelectedCo_ID.Value = RadcomboboxCountry.SelectedValue; RadcomboboxCity.Items.Clear(); RadcomboboxCity.Items.Add(new RadComboBoxItem(" ...", "5")); RadcomboboxCity.DataBind(); RadcomboboxCity.SelectedIndex = 0; } my child radcombo box can fill by upper code , let me tell you how : the child sqldatasource have a sp that has a parameter and i fill that parameter by this line - hfSelectedCo_ID.Value = RadcbCoNameInInsert.SelectedValue; RadcbCoNameInInsert.SelectedValue means country ID. after doing that SelectedIndexChange Event of Parent RadComboBox(Country) could not be fire therefore i forced to set the autopostback property to true. afetr doing that every thing was ok until some one told me can u control focus and keydown of your radcombo boxes (when u press enter key on the parent combobox[country] , so child combobox gets focus -- and when u press upperkey on child radcombobox [city], so parent combobox[country] gets focus) (For Users That Do Not Want To Use Mouse for Input Info And Choose items) i told him this is web app , not win form and we can not do that. i googled it and i found jquery the only way for doing that ... so i started using jquery . i wrote this code with jquery for both of them : <script src="../JQuery/jquery-1.4.1.js" language="javascript" type="text/javascript"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> $(function() { $('input[id$=RadcomboboxCountry_Input]').focus(); $('input[id$=RadcomboboxCountry_Input]').select(); $('input[id$=RadcomboboxCountry_Input]').bind('keyup', function(e) { var code = (e.keyCode ? • Postcode and radius lookup recommendations

  I look after a number of divisional websites for a uk based membership organisation and what we want to do is provide, as well as other address functions, is a closest member lookup to a web user from the websites themselves. A few use cases that I want to fill: Case 1: The user puts in their post code and wants to see all the members in a 5/10/15/20/30/40 mile radius from them Case 2: The member puts in an area (city, county, etc.) and gets a list of members in that area. Essentially what I'm looking for is a programmable API which I can code against to do: post code lookup and returns addresses (after picking house number for example). search post code + radius (5miles, 10miles etc) and get a set of applicable post codes to then join onto the membership records in the database Any recommendations? It can be a quarterly update install on the server, it can be a queryable web service. I'm open to suggestions. Thanks in advance
