  I am facing difficulties installing the MS SQL Server Express 2008 Service Pack 1. I already have MS SQL Server Express 2008 installed and all I want to do is to install the SP1 however I get following error message even though all features are selected, it still tells me to select one or more features: Also just for information, when I open the SQL Server Configuration Manager to manage my SQL Server Services, the following error message is displayed: If anyone who has faced this and has a solution then please let me know, as my aim is to install management studio, but for that I must have SP1 installed at least, and I'm stuck at that point.   I just upgraded my MacBook Pro to Mavericks and my local Ruby on Rails development environment isn't running straight off the bat, when I visit localhost I see It works! and remembered I needed to start Phusion Passenger, so when I run passenger start it checks all the requisites and fails when it gets to the PCRE Development Headers: * Checking for PCRE development headers... Found: no It tells me to go to http://www.pcre.org/ to download them so I downloaded 8.33 from here which went to my Downloads folder, so I unzipped it, cd'd to the folder and ran: ./configure make make install Then cd'd back to my rails app directory on my Desktop and re-ran passenger start but it's still the same. Tried a new Terminal window but that didn't make any difference. I must have done this before to get my dev environment working but can't seem to solve it this time. I also tried brew install pcre but it says Warning: pcre-8.33 already installed.

  hi all, i've been struggling with this for a while now: i can't install greasemonkey on my firefox portable 3.5.5 :( it must be something with the latest update to 3.5.5. (i'm having win7 x64 ultimate) upgrading greasemonkey didn't work so i completely de-installed it and then tried (no success): installing greasemonkey via addons-dialog installing .xpi manually installing with "restart firefox" button installing by quitting + restarting firefox it simply just won't install / show up under addons. of course i de-activated all other plugins and started firefox as administrator. any ideas? thx

• Keyboard not detected when trying to install Ubuntu 10.10

  I tried to install Ubuntu 10.10 desktop edition on my laptop and unfortunately it didn't detect my keyboard (it detects my mouse) so I couldn't finish installation. Is it something wrong I'm doing? There isn't really much to specify during the installation process and I'm really disappointed that such a trivial task as installation cannot be done without asking a question on a forum. Maybe it's because I'm trying to install it on my laptop? Shall I the download the notebook edition? That sound silly to me.

• CentOS Installation on a Cisco MCS 7800

  I'm having some problems installing CentOS 5.5 Final (i386) onto my server, a Cisco MCS 7800. The problem comes very early into the installation. When the welcome screen comes up and gives you the option on how to boot into the DVD, I'll press enter to go into the graphical installer. The screen will then have a blinking cursor in the top left of the screen and will never go away (I thought that it just might need time but I let it sit for over 5 hours). I then booted into it again and tried using Linux Text thinking it was a problem with the graphical installer. That didn't work, same problem. Then I tried a DVD of RHEL 5 and got the same problem, both graphical and Linux text. At this point I think it's a hardware problem. The server has 2GB of ECC RAM, 1 Pentium 4 CPU @ 3.06GHZ and 2 WD Hard Drives (80GB) configured for RAID 0. (There is also an option in the BIOS for what OS type and that is set to Linux.) If anyone has any idea what is going on, it would be helpful. Edit Typing "text" doesn't change a thing. Still stuck at the blinking cursor. I looked it up and it's really the same thing as typing "linux text", which as stated in the first part of my question, I've already done.

• Can't install Windows 7 on Acer Aspire M1100

  When I install Windows 7, everything goes smooth but as soon as it's done and Windows needs to reboot for the last time before getting the desktop, the computer stucks to Verify DMI Pool Data............. and then, nothing. I change the CMOS battery, I tried so many setup in BIOS, even load default settings... Nothing worked. The HDD light is not flickering anymore, no HDD activity. CTRL-ALT-DEL doesn't work. It's just impossible to load Windows 7. I tried Windows XP and this works fine. I also tried the Acer (Futureshop) recovery CD and I get an Hexademical error message stating the install cannot continue. Is there a BIOS flash apps somewhere or a fix I can apply to have Windows 7 Ultimate installed on my computer. Any takers?

  I'm trying to plan disk space for a virtual environment, and wanting to keep virtual disks as small as possible - mostly as apart from the base OS, the software going onto the VM is less than a few MB, so want to avoid physical disk space going to waste; plus it'll give me an idea of how many VMs I could physically fit in {x}GB of physical drive. For Server 2003, I've had installs on 2GB and 5GB sized virtual disks. However for Server 2008, Microsoft recommends a minimum of 10GB (I assume this is both for x32 and x64). For the record, I will be installing the x32 version. Now I know I could just go ahead and try a small install, but wanted to solicit any practical knowledge as well :-) What's the smallest install of Server 2008 possible? (excluding server core installations).

  I have SQL2008 installed on my Win2008 server, and its been working fine - I have sites running using SQL databases etc.. I thought I would install SQL2008 SP1, but after install I cannot connect to SQL via Management Studio, and in configuration manager I cannot start SQL?   We're trying to enable the openX Market plugin on openX 2.8.9. Enabling the plugin results in an "Allowed memory exceeded" error: Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 201326592 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 76 bytes) in /home/openx/lib/pear/PEAR.php on line 868 no matter what we have our php memory_limit set to. It even exceeded 512MB. We're running RHEL 5.6 and PEAR 1.9.4 Has anybody else come across this problem?

  I need at least Java 1.6 to run a program that someone else in my lab wrote On the Java website it tells me to update Java via apple's software update function, i've run this a few times but it only got up to Java 1.5.0_24 and it now says no more updates are available for my computer Is there another way to update Java on a Mac? Is my operating system maybe to old for Java 1.6? i'm not sure what i'm running exactly, and i can't find a list of what mac operating systems run what versions of Java because the java site just suggests using Mac's software update.

From the Start menu, click Control Panel. 2. Double-click Add or Remove Programs. 3. Click Add/Remove Windows Components. 4. In the Windows Components Wizard, double-click Application Server, double-click Internet Information Services, and then select the FrontPage 2002 Server Extensions check box. 5. Click OK twice, click Next, and then click Finish. But on step 4 "FrontPage 2002 Server Extensions" does not show up in the list in the IIS details window. How do I get FPSE 2002 installed on my server? From what I can understand it's supposed to be there and I just have to enable it. But that's not an option for me. Thanks.

• Can't Install php5-dev on Ubuntu 12.04 running OpenVZ

  I'm trying to fetch the php apc package using pecl and running into a problem that I believe may be caused by OpenVZ. To do so I need php5-dev. When I try to install it via apt-get, I get this: php5-dev : Depends: libssl-dev but it is not going to be installed Depends: libtool (>= 2.2) but it is not going to be installed As I try to manually install dependencies (without success), I believe I've identified libc6-dev as the culprit. libc6-dev : Depends: libc6 (= 2.15-0ubuntu10.2) but 2.15-0ubuntu10+openvz0 is to be installed I have libc6 installed on the system.   I have a friend that keeps a collection of burned Windows CD's; 2000, XP, Vista which he uses to repair peoples computers with. Now he justifies this by saying he uses the CD-Key on their OEM sticker that came with their PC. As long as the installation validates the installation should be 100% legal. Is this true? I've always been under the impression you had to use the original CD/DVD that came with the computer. Thanks in advance.

  I have an Acer Chromebook. Using crouton, I installed Ubuntu (unity) on it. I am pretty familiar Ubuntu 12.04. But the installed one is very minimized package. My fonts are missing and I manually installed language pack for Korean but still browser can't display Korean characters. Is there a way to install the whole packages via crouton like when you install Ubuntu 12.04 with the CD? Or is there a script that installs the missing packages on the bare Ubuntu? Thanks. Sam

• Change install path to /usr/bin instead of /usr/local/bin

  A simple question, but I have no concrete documentation to confirm my answer. When installing software with the make install command under a unix machine, the default path is going over to /usr/local/bin. I would like to update a package system-wide under /usr/bin. How (and where) do I change the command under make or make install to /usr/bin? Also - Can the package remain on /usr/local/bin but the systemwide usage of Python (the update being installed) be changed to /usr/local/bin from /usr/bin to avoid modifying the original installed version ?
