  • Does IIS Sometimes Allocate More Worker Processes Than Configured?

    We have an IIS 7.5 web service on Windows Server 2008 that handles WCF requests from C# clients. This service is configured to have Maximum Worker Processes = 1, so it is not a web garden. IIS is setup to recycle itself at the same time every day (3 AM). I am trying to debug gnarly connection issues, so I wanted to be sure the application pool was not recycling itself. I configured the pool to log an event when it recycles itself. To my surprise, I see the following entries in the System event log: Level: Information Date/Time: 3/23/2012 3:00:00 AM - Source: WAS - Event ID: 5076 A worker process with process id of '6636' serving application pool 'MyAppPool' has requested a recycle because it reached its scheduled recycle time. Level: Information Date/Time: 3/23/2012 2:59:39 AM - Source: WAS - Event ID: 5076 A worker process with process id of '9364' serving application pool 'MyAppPool' has requested a recycle because it reached its scheduled recycle time. IIS is correctly recycling the application pool at 3 AM. However, I do not understand why I would be getting two recycle events in the log within a few seconds of each other. The maximum number of processes is 1. Does IIS sometimes allocate multiple processes for an application pool that is specified as having 1 process? -- edit -- I connected at about 4 PM today and only saw 1 w3wp.exe process. There are no other event log entries that would indicate a crash.

    When creating mobile (specially Android) application, I usually come to touch with similar pattern of working with data. Usually I need to fetch some remote data (covered by authorization process) to local cache. And on next request: Check networking Check presence of cache file Check version of cache file (if networking) Get new version and save cache (if networking and file not in cache, or outdated) Data store is no-SQL JSON Document-Based (and yes, I know about CouchDB Android version, but it doesn't fit my needs yet.) Process of authorizing to data source and code for check version of local cache is adapted to application. But the other code (handling network, saving cache, handling exceptions,...) is always the same. Is there any Data Store helper I can use, which provides functions I described above?

  • Override absolute position on child container (modal window)

    I have a modal window that is pulled from the server and inserted into a container that is absolute positioned. When that window is triggered to open, it does not display properly, it positions itself inside the container and most of it is hidden. Is there a specific css to be written for the container of the modal window (MyModalWindow). My code is as follows: <div style="position:relative;"> <div style="position: absolute;"> <div id="MyModalWindow"> </div> </div> </div> This is a jquery tools window and attaches the following style to MyModalWindow when it shows.: element.style { display:block; left:183.5px position:absolute; top:468.4px; z-index:9999; } I basically need the div to not be a child of the parent, since as jquery calculates it to be positioned at the center of the webpage no matter where the div is.

  • GUI Application Resolution from Text Mode OS

    I'm trying to turn a computer into a Linux thin client via Ubuntu. I have a Dell OptiPlex 755 loaded with Ubuntu 14.04 installed and fully patched. I've configured the OS to run in text mode and automatically launch the VMWare Horizon's client, which works. The issue is that when the Horizon client launches, its resolution is only 1/4 of the screen. I've played with the resolution settings in grub which appears to modify the text environment but not the application environment for Horizon's. Can someone point me in the right direction on how to increase the resolution for a GUI application launch from text mode so it's full screen. Thanks!

  • Application Composer Series: Where and When to use Groovy

    This brief post is really intended as more of a reference than an article. The table below highlights two things, firstly where you can add you own custom logic via groovy code (end column), and secondly (middle column) when you might use each particular feature. Obviously this applies only where Application Composer exists, namely Fusion CRM and Oracle Sales Cloud, and is based on current (release 8) functionality. Feature Most Common Use Case Groovy Field Triggers React to run-time data changes. Only fired when the field is changed and upon submit. Y Object Triggers To extend the standard processing logic for an object, based on record creation, updates and deletes. There is a split between these firing events, with some related to UI/ADF actions and others originating in the database. UI Trigger Points: After Create - fires when a new object record is created. Commonly used to set default values for fields. Before Modify - Fires when the end-user tries to modify a field value. Could be used for generic warnings or extra security logic. Before Invalidate - Fires on the parent object when one of its child object records is created, updated, or deleted. For building in relationship logic. Before Remove - Fires when an attempt is made to delete an object record. Can be used to create conditions that prevent deletes. Database Trigger Points: Before Insert in Database - Fires before a new object is inserted into the database. Can be used to ensure a dependent record exists or check for duplicates. After Insert in Database - Fires after a new object is inserted into the database. Could be used to create a complementary record. Before Update in Database -Fires before an existing object is modified in the database. Could be used to check dependent record values. After Update in Database - Fires after an existing object is modified in the database. Could be used to update a complementary record. Before Delete in Database - Fires before an existing object is deleted from the database. Could be used to check dependent record values. After Delete in Database - Fires after an existing object is deleted from the database. Could be used to remove dependent records. After Commit in Database - Fires after the change pending for the current object (insert, update, delete) is made permanent in the current transaction. Could be used when committed data that has passed all validation is required. After Changes Posted to Database - Fires after all changes have been posted to the database, but before they are permanently committed. Could be used to make additional changes that will be saved as part of the current transaction. Y Field Validation Displays a user entered error message based groovy logic validating the field value. The message is shown only when the validation logic returns false, and the logic is triggered only when tabbing out of the field on the user interface. Y Object Validation Commonly used where validation is needed across multiple related fields on the object. Triggered on the submit UI action. Y Object Workflows All Object Workflows are fired upon either record creation or update, along with the option of adding a custom groovy firing condition. Y Field Updates - change another field when a specified one changes. Intended as an easy way to set different run-time values (e.g. pick values for LOV's) plus the value field permits groovy logic entry. Y E-Mail Notification - sends an email notification to specified users/roles. Templates support using run-time value tokens and rich text. N Task Creation - for adding standard tasks for use in the worklist functionality. N Outbound Message - will create and send an XML payload of the related object SDO to a specified endpoint. N Business Process Flow - intended for approval using the seeded process, however can also trigger custom BPMN flows. N Global Functions Utility functions that can be called from any groovy code in Application Composer (across applications). Y Object Functions Utility functions that are local to the parent object. Usually triggered from within 'Buttons and Actions' definitions in Application Composer, although can be called from other code for that object (e.g. from a trigger). Y Add Custom Fields When adding custom fields there are a few places you can include groovy logic. Y Default Value - to add logic within setting the default value when new records are entered. Y Conditionally Updateable - to add logic to set the field to read-only or not. Y Conditionally Required - to add logic to set the field to required or not. Y Formula Field - Used to provide a new aggregate field that is entirely based on groovy logic and other field values. Y Simplified UI Layouts - Advanced Expressions Used for creating dynamic layouts for simplified UI pages where fields and regions show/hide based on run-time context values and logic. Also includes support for the depends-on feature as a trigger.   • Need help in making my new laptop dual boot with ubuntu 9.10

    Hi, I have a new laptop which comes with window 7. I want to dual-boot it with ubuntu 9.10. I have burned the install disk of 9.10. But during the install process, I am stuck in 'setup my partition'. It has 2 options: wipe out my whole hard disk' or 'manually configure' I don't want it to wipe out my whole hard disk (i want to keep my window 7). But how can I manually configure the partition to use the free space and create a partition so that I can install ubuntu 9.10 and swap space? Thank you.

  • Why don't windows of the same application behave as they should?

    Somewhere along the upgrade path, Unity has developed some strange logic behind window layering. First, before Oneiric, there was a way to see all the windows of an application - I think it was when you click on the icon in the launcher. Now, clicking on the icon often does nothing. Suppose I have two terminals open, one behind this Firefox window, and one in front of it. Clicking on the launcher does nothing - the only way to find the second terminal, afaics, is to move the Firefox window or use the task switcher. Secondly, once I have both terminals on top, then I decide to close one of them, suddenly they both disappear (the second one, for some reason, has gone into hiding behind the Firefox window). Third (though I can't pin it down now), sometimes when a window is on top, focus is still on a window in back; I click on the top x to close the window in front, only to find I've closed an important window in the back. (Update: this question details the problem) I can't really believe these are bugs, since they seem too obvious to not have been fixed by now. My question is, am I missing something? Some compiz option I can set to make it act like it used to? Or is this really how Unity is supposed to act?

  • Changing the default program for an application

    I have installed MonoDevelop and after that Wine, but when I want to open an EXE file and then double click on it, it always runs with the Mono runtime, and if I want to run it with Wine, I should right click on it and choose Wine. Well, in properties and in Open With there isn't Wine that choose it for the default application... I have this problem for all types of applications and files. When the software you want to run is in the right click application (Open With), I can't choose it in properties for the default. In fact, I can't find it in properties, because it is in open with option in right click... What should I do to fix this problem? I'm running Ubuntu 12.10 (Quantal Quetzal), 32 bit.

In addition I need to use spatial database for geo indexing that will be shared for both applications. I am new to this app world and I have some questions. Is there away to develop for both machines? I know java but not objective c. My guess is that I need to separate the database from the computing to support both applications. What are the best cloud computing providers with spatial database support that can host the server? Do I need 2 hosting servers or there is one server the can support the both of them? which database provider can support geo indexing and support this intergraion, I prefer providers with reasonable free quotas.   • Problem with an application on USB, a tricky one

    I have this application on USB built in VS 2008, on win7 , the USb has two partitions one hidden and other normal one, when i run the application on normal part , it has to swap the part to hidden and run the applications present in hidden part. When i run the application in normal part from USB , the memory swaps but the applications in hidden part are not run. but i can see the application running in Task manager. when i copy the application and run it from the desktop, the application works seamlessly, without any glitch. I guess some thing is holding the application process when run from USB, i cannot safe eject the USB too. CAn some one give me a clue as to what can be done to resolve. Also the application works well on Windows 7 as expected. The problem is on XP

  • Flex web application: prevent framerate drop when window is invisible

    So there's been a new "feature" in the flash player since version 10.1, which reduces the player's framerate to 2 fps when the application window is out of view. This is good news for performance, but it can break some functionality, such as the Timer class. I have an application which uses a Timer to display a countdown. Given the nature of the application, it is required for the Timer to complete its countdown even if the user is not there to see it. Imagine that you need to give the user only 10 seconds to perform a task. If the user minimizes the window halfway through the counter, they can take as much time as they want and still have 5 seconds left when they return to the window. This apparently can not be avoided with the newer flash players. In Air applications there is the backgroundFrameRate property which can be set to prevent this behavior, but this is part of the WindowedApplication class, so it seems that it is not available in a web application. Does anyone know a way to keep a constant frame rate even when the window is not visible? Thanks

  • Carbon, LSUIElement, and showing a window

    I have a Carbon LSUIElement application, which runs in the background (possibly with an icon in the menubar, depending on a pref) and occasionally needs to show a dialog to the user - sometimes in response to a user event, but sometimes in response to a background task failing or similar. (I'm using Qt 4.5, so the application is Carbon based; With Qt 4.6 things will be Cocoa based, but it sounds as if the problem may exist there too). The problem is that when I open a window, and show it, it doesn't get brought to the front. I assume this is an artefect of being an LSUIElement app. Qt uses SelectWindow in Carbon, and [makeKeyAndOrderFront] in Cocoa, to bring a window (and the app) to the front. To work around the problem, I tried going direct to the window server: (the first few steps are to get the WindowID, this will be simpler with Qt-Cocoa, since I can use NSWindow:nativeWindow) WindowRef ref = HIViewGetWindow((HIViewRef) aWidget->winId()); CGSWindow wid = GetNativeWindowFromWindowRef(ref); CGSConnection cid =_CGSDefaultConnection(); CGSOrderWindow(cid, wid, 1 /* above everything */, 0 /* NULL */); This works, sort of - the window comes to the front, but it's not highlighted or keyboard focused. Are there additional steps to fix those issues, or is there a simpler solution to the whole problem?

  • Non-Full-Screen Application Launcher in Gnome 3?

    I'm trying out Gnome Shell in 11.04. You can push the "activities" key to get into the overview where you can launch applications. I like the idea of the overview as an aid in switching focus, but it's too slow for just launching an application. Is Gnome Shell going to implement, or does it have, a way to launch applications (besides the alt-f2 command launcher) that is as quick as Gnome-do? edit: To be clear, I'm aware of several Gnome application launchers. I'm curious about the Gnome Shell and any packages it includes (not add-ons like Gnome-do or Synapse).

    I just installed SQL Anywhere 12 and can start Sybase Central from the terminal with the command line below without errors: /opt/sqlanywhere12/bin32/scjview However, when I try to start it from a desktop entry I am receiving two error messages that could be something incorrectly defined in the desktop below: #!/usr/bin/env xdg-open [Desktop Entry] Version=1.0 Type=Application Terminal=false Icon[en_US]=gnome-panel-launcher Name[en_US]=Sybase Central Exec=/opt/sqlanywhere12/bin32/scjview Comment[en_US]= Name=Sybase Central Comment= Icon=gnome-panel-launcher Here are the error messages: (unable to post the error images) cannot find libsyblib610_r.so cannot find libulscutil12.so Since the application can be successfully started from a terminal window I was wondering how I could have it setup as a desktop entry as well.
