  • How to create skype like message window?

    - by Miraaj
    Hi all, I am just trying to design skype like message window , for this I have taken the NSDrawer element. It contains : a table view on left, menu items on top, text field on right bottom and text view at central portion on right side. Using text view I can play with string being displayed but I cannot draw the line between messages or round rectangle surrounding user name and time stamp. Can anyone suggest me how can I achieve same look and feel for central message view as in skype?? or is there any better control then NSTextView to be used for it?? Thanks, for any suggestion... • Managing NSStoreType changes between debug and release builds

    - by Eimantas
    NSXMLTypeStore is used when starting Core Data backed application by default because it's good for debugging purposes. But practice dictates that developer should use either NSBinaryStoreType, NSInMemoryStoreType or NSSQLiteStoreType store types in release builds. How do you manage changes between debug and release builds? I believe that changing store type from NSXMLTypeStore to, say, NSBinaryStoreType in code on each release is kinda cumbersome.

  • UITableView : detecting click on '-' button in edit mode

    - by synthez84
    Hi all, On my iphone app, I have a UITableView in edit mode, containing custom UITableViewCell. I would like to detect when user has clicked on the left button of each cell (minus circular red button, the one that is animated with a rotation), just before the "Delete" button appears. I would like to be able to change my cell content in that case... Is that possible ? Thanks !

  • Crashes in Core Data's Inferred Mapping Model Creation (Lightweight Migration). Threading Issue?

    - by enchilada
    I'm getting random crashes when creating an inferred mapping model (with Core Data's lightweight migration) within my application. By the way, I have to do it programmatically in my application while it is running. This is how I create this model (after I have made proper currentModel and newModel objects, of course): NSMappingModel *mappingModel = [NSMappingModel inferredMappingModelForSourceModel:currentModel destinationModel:newModel error:&error]; The problem is this: This method is crashing randomly. When it works, it works just fine without issues. But when it crashes, it crashes my application (instead of returning nil to signify that the method failed, as it should). By randomly, I mean that sometimes it happens and sometimes not. It is unpredictable. Now, here is the deal: I'm running this method in another thread. More precisely, it is located inside a block that is passed via GCD to run on the global main queue. I need to do this for my UI to appear crisp to the user, i.e. so that I can display a progress indicator while the work is underway. The strange thing seems to be that if I remove the GCD stuff and just let it run on the main thread, it seems to be working fine and never crashing. Thus, could it be because I'm running this on a different thread that this is crashing? I somehow find that weird because I don't believe I'm breaking any Core Data rules regarding multi-threading. In particular, I'm not passing any managed objects around, and whenever I need access to the MOC, I create a new MOC, i.e. I'm not relying on any MOC (or for that matter: anything) that has been created earlier on the main thread. Besides the little MOC stuff that occurs, occurs after the mapping model creation method, i.e. after the point at which the app crashes, so it can't possibly be a cause of the crashes under consideration here. All I'm doing is taking two MOMs and asking for a mapping model between them. That can't be wrong even under threading, now can it? Any ideas on what could be going on?

  • Enable UIBarButtonItem if multiple UITextFields are all populated

    - by CrystalSkull
    I have 3 UITextFields in a grouped UITableView and am trying to figure out the correct logic to only have my 'Save' UIBarButtonItem enabled when none of the UITextFields are empty. I'm currently using the - (BOOL)textField:(UITextField *)textField shouldChangeCharactersInRange:(NSRange)range replacementString:(NSString *)string UITextField delegate method to detect changes to the field character by character, but it is providing inconsistent results. Any ideas?

  • What's a good way to create an Event Calendar

    - by iFloh
    Hi, I want to create an Event Calendar for my iPhone App. In a first instance the Event Calendar is supposed to list the Events and have a Details View with additional info. It is also supposed to contain an action to trasfer a specific event to the iPhone Calendar. First thoughts go towards using a UITableView where I make the event dates as sections. Since the Calendar is supposed to span many month I am unsure whether this really is the best way to go about it. Any suggestions? Do you probably know some sample code that I might use ? thanks in advance

  • Retrieving NSDate from NSString

    - by Olivier de Jonge
    I have an iPhone app. that is receiving data with IRFC 3339 timestamp format (e.g. @"2010-01-29T11:30:00.000+01:00"), as in GData. I want to convert the data to an NSDate NSDateFormatter *inputFormatter = [[[NSDateFormatter alloc] init] autorelease]; [inputFormatter setDateFormat:@"yyyy-MM-dd'T'HH:mm:ss.SSS"]; [currentEntry setStartTime:[inputFormatter dateFromString: ][currentEntry startTimeString]]]; But I'm missing out how to convert the last part of the string @"2010-01-29T11:30:00.000+01:00": the time offset. Anyone knows what I have to add to this String to take the time offset in account too?

  • What is the best way to solve an Objective-C namespace collision?

    - by Mecki
    Objective-C has no namespaces; it's much like C, everything is within one global namespace. Common practice is to prefix classes with initials, e.g. if you are working at IBM, you could prefix them with "IBM"; if you work for Microsoft, you could use "MS"; and so on. Sometimes the initials refer to the project, e.g. Adium prefixes classes with "AI" (as there is no company behind it of that you could take the initials). Apple prefixes classes with NS and says this prefix is reserved for Apple only. So far so well. But appending 2 to 4 letters to a class name in front is a very, very limited namespace. E.g. MS or AI could have an entirely different meanings (AI could be Artificial Intelligence for example) and some other developer might decide to use them and create an equally named class. Bang, namespace collision. Okay, if this is a collision between one of your own classes and one of an external framework you are using, you can easily change the naming of your class, no big deal. But what if you use two external frameworks, both frameworks that you don't have the source to and that you can't change? Your application links with both of them and you get name conflicts. How would you go about solving these? What is the best way to work around them in such a way that you can still use both classes? In C you can work around these by not linking directly to the library, instead you load the library at runtime, using dlopen(), then find the symbol you are looking for using dlsym() and assign it to a global symbol (that you can name any way you like) and then access it through this global symbol. E.g. if you have a conflict because some C library has a function named open(), you could define a variable named myOpen and have it point to the open() function of the library, thus when you want to use the system open(), you just use open() and when you want to use the other one, you access it via the myOpen identifier. Is something similar possible in Objective-C and if not, is there any other clever, tricky solution you can use resolve namespace conflicts? Any ideas? Update: Just to clarify this: answers that suggest how to avoid namespace collisions in advance or how to create a better namespace are certainly welcome; however, I will not accept them as the answer since they don't solve my problem. I have two libraries and their class names collide. I can't change them; I don't have the source of either one. The collision is already there and tips on how it could have been avoided in advance won't help anymore. I can forward them to the developers of these frameworks and hope they choose a better namespace in the future, but for the time being I'm searching a solution to work with the frameworks right now within a single application. Any solutions to make this possible?

  • Why is my UITableView not being set?

    - by Jamie L
    I checked using the debbuger in the viewDidLoad method and tracerTableView is 0x0 which i assume means it is nil. I don't understand. I should go ahaed say yes I have already checked my nib file and yes all the connections are correct. Here is the header file and the begging of the .m. ///////////// .h file //////////// @interface TrackerListController : UITableViewController { // The mutable (modifiable) dictionary days holds all the data for the days tab NSMutableArray *trackerList; UITableView *tracerTableView; } @property (nonatomic, retain) NSMutableArray *trackerList; @property (nonatomic, retain) IBOutlet UITableView. *tracerTableView; //The addPackage: method is invoked when the user taps the addbutton created at runtime. -(void) addPackage : (id) sender; @end /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// ////////////////////////////////////// .m file ////////////////////////////////////// @implementation TrackerListController @synthesize trackerList, tracerTableView; (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; self.title = @"Package Tracker"; self.navigationItem.leftBarButtonItem = self.editButtonItem; UIBarButtonItem *addButton = [[UIBarButtonItem alloc] initWithBarButtonSystemItem:UIBarButtonSystemItemAdd target:self action:@selector(addPackage:)]; // Set up the Add custom button on the right of the navigation bar self.navigationItem.rightBarButtonItem = addButton; [addButton release]; // Release the addButton from memory since it is no longer needed }

  • How do I use AFAssistantPane?

    - by Koning Baard
    I have searched my entire Mac for ibplugin to find the QTKit IBPlugin, but I also came accros a plugin which adds AFAssistantPane to IB. I did a Google-search but Google has no results for it. So, does anyone know how I can use this AFAssistantPane? Thanks Update: I noted that this is in a private framework (that's why it is not documented).

  • CoreData: managedObjectContext not being created

    I had to add core data to an existing project but I am having issues with the managedObjectContext... in prefix.pch I have this: #import <Availability.h> #ifndef __IPHONE_5_0 #warning "This project uses features only available in iOS SDK 5.0 and later." #endif #ifdef __OBJC__ #import <UIKit/UIKit.h> #import <Foundation/Foundation.h> #import <CoreData/CoreData.h> #endif ... in my appDelegate.h I have this: #import <UIKit/UIKit.h> #import "AppViewController.h" #import "DDLog.h" #import "DDASLLogger.h" #import "DDFileLogger.h" #import "DDTTYLogger.h" #import "KIP_LogManager.h" @interface AppDelegate : UIResponder <UIApplicationDelegate> { DDFileLogger* fileLogger; /*coredata*/ NSManagedObjectModel* managedObjectModel; NSManagedObjectContext* managedObjectContext; NSPersistentStoreCoordinator* persistentStoreCoordinator; } @property (strong, nonatomic) UIWindow *window; @property (strong, nonatomic) AppViewController* viewController; @property (readonly, strong, nonatomic) NSManagedObjectContext* managedObjectContext; @property (readonly, strong, nonatomic) NSManagedObjectModel* managedObjectModel; @property (readonly, strong, nonatomic) NSPersistentStoreCoordinator* persistentStoreCoordinator; - (void)setupLogging; - (NSString *)applicationDocumentsDirectory; in appDelegate.m this: @synthesize managedObjectContext = _managedObjectContext; @synthesize managedObjectModel = _managedObjectModel; @synthesize persistentStoreCoordinator = _persistentStoreCoordinator; ... - (BOOL)application:(UIApplication *)application didFinishLaunchingWithOptions:(NSDictionary *)launchOptions { //establish lumberjack logging [self setupLogging]; DDLogVerbose(@"\n\n*********************\nNEW LOG SESSION\n**********************\n\n"); //set root view controller self.window = [[UIWindow alloc] initWithFrame:[[UIScreen mainScreen] bounds]]; self.viewController = [[AppViewController alloc] init]; self.window.rootViewController = self.viewController; self.viewController.managedObjectContext = _managedObjectContext; return YES; } ... #pragma mark - CoreData Stack - (NSManagedObjectContext *)managedObjectContext { if (_managedObjectContext != nil) { return _managedObjectContext; } NSPersistentStoreCoordinator *coordinator = [self persistentStoreCoordinator]; if (coordinator != nil) { _managedObjectContext = [[NSManagedObjectContext alloc] init]; [_managedObjectContext setPersistentStoreCoordinator:coordinator]; } return _managedObjectContext; } // Returns the managed object model for the application. // If the model doesn't already exist, it is created from the application's model. - (NSManagedObjectModel *)managedObjectModel { if (_managedObjectModel != nil) { return _managedObjectModel; } NSURL *modelURL = [[NSBundle mainBundle] URLForResource:@"SPI_PAC" withExtension:@"momd"]; _managedObjectModel = [[NSManagedObjectModel alloc] initWithContentsOfURL:modelURL]; return _managedObjectModel; } - (NSPersistentStoreCoordinator *)persistentStoreCoordinator { if (persistentStoreCoordinator != nil) { return persistentStoreCoordinator; } NSMutableString* strDocsDirector = [[NSMutableString alloc] initWithString:[self applicationDocumentsDirectory]]; [strDocsDirector appendString:@"/SPI_PAC.sqlite"]; NSURL* storeURL = [NSURL URLWithString:strDocsDirector]; NSError *error = nil; persistentStoreCoordinator = [[NSPersistentStoreCoordinator alloc] initWithManagedObjectModel:[self managedObjectModel]]; if(![persistentStoreCoordinator addPersistentStoreWithType:NSSQLiteStoreType configuration:nil URL:storeURL options:nil error:&error]) { /*Error for store creation should be handled in here*/ } return persistentStoreCoordinator; } - (NSString *)applicationDocumentsDirectory { return [NSSearchPathForDirectoriesInDomains(NSDocumentDirectory, NSUserDomainMask, YES) lastObject]; } in the view controller, viewDidLoad I am logging the passed managedObjectContext and am getting null returned. Obviously I am missing something but not sure what? In viewcontroller.h I have: @property (nonatomic, retain) NSManagedObjectModel* managedObjectModel; @property (nonatomic, retain) NSManagedObjectContext* managedObjectContext; @property (nonatomic, retain) NSPersistentStoreCoordinator* persistentStoreCoordinator; and in the viewcontroller.m: @synthesize managedObjectContext = managedObjectContext; ... • Why doesn't this UIButton show its text label?

  • SQLite bulk insert on iPhone not working

    - by App_beginner
    Hi. I have been struggling with this seeminly easy problem for 48 hours, and I am no closer to a solution. So I was hoping that someone might be able to help me. I am building a app, that use a combination of a local (SQLite) database and an online database (PHP/MYSQL). The app is nearly finished. Checked for leaks and work like a charm. However the very last part is the part I have struggled with. On launch, I want the app to check for changes to the online databse, and if there is. I want it to download and parse a xml file containing the changes. Everything is working fine this far. But when I try to bulk insert my parsed data to my database, the app crashes, giving a NSInternalInconsistency error. Due to the database returning SQLITE_MISUSE. I have done a lot of googling, but am still unable to solve my problem. So I am putting the code here, hoping that someone can help me fix this. And I know that I should have used core data for this. But this is the very last part I am struggling with, and I am very reluctant to changing my entire code now. Core data will have to come in the update. Here is the error I recieve: Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInternalInconsistencyException', reason: 'Error while inserting data. 'library routine called out of sequence'' Here is my code: -(void)UpdateDatabase:(const char *)_query NewValues:(NSMutableArray *)_odb dbn:(NSString *)_dbn dbp:(NSString *)_dbp { sqlite3 *database; NSMutableArray *NewValues = _odb; int i; const char *query = _query; sqlite3_stmt *addStmt; for (i = 1; i < [NewValues count]; i++) { if(sqlite3_prepare_v2(database, query, -1, &addStmt, NULL) == SQLITE_OK) { sqlite3_bind_text(addStmt, 1, [[[NewValues objectAtIndex:i] name] UTF8String], -1, SQLITE_TRANSIENT); sqlite3_bind_text(addStmt, 2, [[[NewValues objectAtIndex:i] city]UTF8String], -1, SQLITE_TRANSIENT); sqlite3_bind_double(addStmt, 3, [[[NewValues objectAtIndex:i] lat] doubleValue]); sqlite3_bind_int(addStmt, 4, [[[NewValues objectAtIndex:i] long] doubleValue]); sqlite3_bind_int(addStmt, 5, [[[NewValues objectAtIndex:i] code] intValue]); } if(SQLITE_DONE != sqlite3_step(addStmt)) { NSAssert1(0, @"Error while inserting data. '%s'", sqlite3_errmsg(database)); } //Reset the add statement. sqlite3_reset(addStmt); } }

  • Scan from last instance of character to end of string using NSScanner

    - by Virgil Disgr4ce
    Given a string such as: "new/path - path/path/03 - filename.ext", how can I use NSScanner (or any other approach) to return the substring from the last "/" to the end of the string, i.e., "03 - filename.ext"? The code I've been trying to start with is: while ([fileScanner isAtEnd] == NO){ slashPresent = [fileScanner scanUpToString:@"/" intoString:NULL]; if (slashPresent == YES) { [fileScanner scanString:@"/" intoString:NULL]; lastPosition = [fileScanner scanLocation]; } NSLog(@"fileScanner position: %d", [fileScanner scanLocation]); NSLog(@"lastPosition: %d", lastPosition); } ...and this results in a seg fault after scanning to the end of the string! I'm not sure why this isn't working. Ideas? Thanks in advance!

  • Is this a safe/valid hash method implementation?

    - by Sean
    I have a set of classes to represent some objects loaded from a database. There are a couple variations of these objects, so I have a common base class and two subclasses to represent the differences. One of the key fields they have in common is an id field. Unfortunately, the id of an object is not unique across all variations, but within a single variation. What I mean is, a single object of type A could have an id between, say, 0 and 1,000,000. An object of type B could have an id between, 25,000 and 1,025,000. This means there's some overlap of id numbers. The objects are just variations of the same kind of thing, though, so I want to think of them as such in my code. (They were assigned ids from different sets for legacy reasons.) So I have classes like this: @class BaseClass @class TypeAClass : BaseClass @class TypeBClass : BaseClass BaseClass has a method (NSNumber *)objectId. However instances of TypeA and TypeB could have overlapping ids as discussed above, so when it comes to equality and putting these into sets, I cannot just use the id alone to check it. The unique key of these instances is, essentially, (class + objectId). So I figured that I could do this by making the following hash function on the BaseClass: -(NSUInteger)hash { return (NSUInteger)[self class] ^ [self.objectId hash]; } I also implemented isEqual like so: - (BOOL)isEqual:(id)object { return (self == object) || ([object class] == [self class] && [self.objectId isEqual:[object objectId]]); } This seems to be working, but I guess I'm just asking here to make sure I'm not overlooking something - especially with the generation of the hash by using the class pointer in that way. Is this safe or is there a better way to do this?
