    - by black sensei
Hello Experts! i'm trying to create an application which connects to internet and consume web services for every of it's operation. As far as i'm concerned i'll like to useasync method which i'm using already to get a collection of Contacts.I've realized that when i'm doing the same for groups (meaning getting groups async) i'm having errors in the calls , but when using normal call there ins't.So i did some research online and find that a lot of people has the same problem. Some of them are asked to use WCF (for which i don't know jack).I'll like to know if there is another way to overcome this. if not can somebody point me to reliable resource online and help me get through it? thanks for reading and helping

  • WPF CollectionViewSource Grouping

    - by Miles
I'm using a Collection View Source to group my data. In my data, I have Property1 and Property2 that I'm needing to group on. The only stipulation is that I don't want sub-groups of another group. So, when I group by these two properties, I don't want to have it so that Property2 because a subgroup of Property1's group. The reason why I'm wanting this is because I'm wanting to have a header that shows the following information: Header: <TextBlock.Text> <MultiBinding StringFormat="Property1: {0}, Property2: {1}"> <Binding Path="Property1"/> <Binding Path="Property2"/> </MultiBinding> </TextBlock.Text> I've tried this with my CollectionViewSource but was not able to "combine" the group and subgroup together: <CollectionViewSource x:Key="myKey" Source="{Binding myDataSource}"> <CollectionViewSource.GroupDescriptions> <PropertyGroupDescription PropertyName="Property1" /> <PropertyGroupDescription PropertyName="Property2" /> </CollectionViewSource.GroupDescriptions> </CollectionViewSource> Is it possible to group two properties together? Something like below? <CollectionViewSource x:Key="myKey" Source="{Binding myDataSource}"> <CollectionViewSource.GroupDescriptions> <PropertyGroupDescription PropertyName="Property1,Property2" /> </CollectionViewSource.GroupDescriptions> </CollectionViewSource>

  • wpf Image resources and visual studio 2010 resource editor

    - by Berryl
Hello My motivation for this question is really just to specify an image to be used in a user control via a dependency property for ImageSource. I'm hitting some pain points involving the management, access, and unit testing for this. Is the resource editor a good tool to use to maintain images for the application? What is the best way to translate the Bitmap from the editor to an ImageSource? How can I grab the resource Filename from the editor? Cheers, Berryl

  • Silverlight/WPF: Retreiving the size of a `UIElement` once it has been rendered on screen

    - by ondesertverge
I have the following simple piece of code: var canvas = new Canvas(); foreach (var ztring in strings) { var textblock = new TextBlock(); textblock.Text = ztring; panel.Children.Add(textblock); textblock.Measure(infiniteSize); } At this point I would expect any of the size properties (Height/Width, ActualHeight/ActualWidth, DesiredSize, RenderSize) to give me the size of the textblock. None of them do. ActualHeight always gives 16.0 no matter what size font. ActualWidth changes according to the text length but not the font size. I change the font size on the parent container and not the TextBlock itself. I feel like I am missing some basic element of understanding the manipulation of silverlight elements from within the codebehind. The question is: how do I get the real actual pixel size of my TextBlock?

  • WPF - Extend ListView with checkable AND selectable ListViewItems

    - by Marks
Hi there. I already read many examples on extending ListViews with checkboxes bound with IsSelected. But I want something more. I want a seperation between the checked and selected state, so i get a ListBox that has a single selected item, but can have multiple checked items. Unfortunately ListViewItem does not have a property for checked and I dont see a possibility to get the ListView to work with a custom CheckableListViewItem. Of course i could use a List of objects with a checked property as ItemSource, but I dont think thats a good way to go. Checked or not is a matter of the list or item-container, not of the object listed in it. Beside that I dont want all my classes like user, role, group to have counterparts like checkableUser, checkableRole and checkableGroup. The behaviour i want can be easyly accomblished for the UI with a <DataTemplate x:Key="CheckBoxCell"> <StackPanel Orientation="Horizontal"> <CheckBox /> </StackPanel> </DataTemplate> and a <GridViewColumn CellTemplate="{StaticResource CheckBoxCell}" Width="30"/> But without a binding on the checkbox i cant check if it is checked or not. Is there any way to accomplish something like that? The perfect solution for me would be to have listView1.SelectedItem, listView1.CheckedItems and maybe a listView1.UncheckedItems and of course listView1.CheckItem and listView1.UncheckItem. Thanks for any help.

  • Displaying a collection of controls in a specific way in WPF

    - by Alvaro
I have a collection of controls "MyCollection" wich changes in the Runtime. And I have to follow some constraints for that, for example: If my parameter "MyCollection.Count = 4" the property "NumberOfcolumns" will have the value 2, in order to create new Lines, and show the controls Two per Two. This is how I'm displaying my collection : <ItemsControl ItemsSource="{Binding MyCollection}" BorderThickness="0" HorizontalContentAlignment="Center" VerticalContentAlignment="Center" > <ItemsControl.ItemsPanel> <ItemsPanelTemplate > <UniformGrid Columns="{Binding NumberOfColumns}" VerticalAlignment="Center" HorizontalAlignment="Center" Background="Transparent"/> </ItemsPanelTemplate> </ItemsControl.ItemsPanel> </ItemsControl> The problem is that my controls have different sizes, and as In UniformGrids, Cells are uniform... My design is not really pretty, because I have little controls shown in big Cells !! Can someone help me to solve this problem ? NB: Please give me a detailled solution if possible, not something like : "Use WrapPanel..."

  • WPF: Change padding depending of container ?

I have UserControl named MyUserControl, and another UserControl named MyContainer. I want MyUserControl to have padding 10 if it is placed inside MyContainer and 15 otherwise. Shortly, I want <MyContainer> <MyUserControl> Hello </MyUserControl> </MyContainer> to look like <MyContainer> <UserControl Padding="10"> Hello </UserControl> <MyContainer> and <MyUserControl> Hello </MyUserControl> to look like <UserControl Padding="15"> Hello </UserControl>

  • WPF binding to a boolean on a control

    - by Jose
I'm wondering if someone has a simple succinct solution to binding to a dependency property that needs to be the converse of the property. Here's an example I have a textbox that is disabled based on a property in the datacontext e.g.: <TextBox IsEnabled={Binding CanEdit} Text={Binding MyText}/> The requirement changes and I want to make it ReadOnly instead of disabled, so without changing my ViewModel I could do this: In the UserControl resources: <UserControl.Resources> <m:NotConverter x:Key="NotConverter"/> </UserControl.Resources> And then change the TextBox to: <TextBox IsReadOnly={Binding CanEdit,Converter={StaticResource NotConverter}} Text={Binding MyText}/> Which I personally think is EXTREMELY verbose I would love to be able to just do this(notice the !): <TextBox IsReadOnly={Binding !CanEdit} Text={Binding MyText}/> But alas, that is not an option that I know of. I can think of two options. Create an attached property IsNotReadOnly to FrameworkElement(?) and bind to that property If I change my ViewModel then I could add a property CanEdit and another CannotEdit which I would be kind of embarrassed of because I believe it adds an irrelevant property to a class, which I don't think is a good practice. The main reason for the question is that in my project the above isn't just for one control, so trying to keep my project as DRY as possible and readable I am throwing this out to anyone feeling my pain and has come up with a solution :)

  • Dynamically update Font Size of application with a single trigger in WPF

    - by Sukan
I have an application which has different font sizes for different controls say Button: 10, TextBlock : 12 etc. I want to give options to the user where he can select any one of the below say Normal , Small, Big, Bigger. Suppose one selects "small" I would want to decrease every distinct font size by 2. If "Big", I would want to increase every font size by 2. I hope we can do this using converter sending actual font size as parameter and render as per the selected choice if I am not wrong. What will be the best option. Sorry if my doubt is absurd or silly. Thank you.

  • wpf custom control problem

    - by josika
    Hi! I have a problem, and I have not found the solution yet. I woud like to create a base custom control and use it in another custom control. The base control work fine when I use in a window, but when I use in the other custom control, the binding does not work. What's wrong with my code? Code: Model: public class ElementModel { public string Name { get; set; } public string FullName { get; set; } } The base control: public class ListControl : Control { static ListControl() { DefaultStyleKeyProperty.OverrideMetadata(typeof(ListControl), new FrameworkPropertyMetadata(typeof(ListControl))); } public ListControl() { SetValue(ElementListProperty, new List<ElementModel>()); } public static readonly DependencyProperty ElementListProperty = DependencyProperty.Register( "ElementList", typeof(List<ElementModel>), typeof(ListControl), new FrameworkPropertyMetadata(new List<ElementModel>()) ); public List<ElementModel> ElementList { get { return (List<ElementModel>)GetValue(ElementListProperty); } set { SetValue(ElementListProperty, value); } } } The Wrapper Control: public class ListWrapper : Control { static ListWrapper() { DefaultStyleKeyProperty.OverrideMetadata(typeof(ListWrapper), new FrameworkPropertyMetadata(typeof(ListWrapper))); } public ListWrapper() { SetValue(EMListProperty, new List<ElementModel>()); } public static readonly DependencyProperty EMListProperty = DependencyProperty.Register( "EMList", typeof(List<ElementModel>), typeof(ListWrapper), new FrameworkPropertyMetadata(new List<ElementModel>()) ); public List<ElementModel> EMList { get { return (List<ElementModel>)GetValue(EMListProperty); } set { SetValue(EMListProperty, value); } } } Generic.xaml <ResourceDictionary xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" xmlns:local="clr-namespace:UIControl"> <Style TargetType="{x:Type local:ListControl}"> <Setter Property="Template"> <Setter.Value> <ControlTemplate TargetType="{x:Type local:ListControl}"> <Border Background="{TemplateBinding Background}" BorderBrush="{TemplateBinding BorderBrush}" BorderThickness="{TemplateBinding BorderThickness}"> <ListBox ItemsSource="{TemplateBinding ElementList}"> <ListBox.ItemTemplate> <DataTemplate> <StackPanel> <Label Content="Name:"/> <TextBlock Text="{Binding Path=Name}" /> <Label Content="Full name:"/> <TextBlock Text="{Binding Path=FullName}" /> </StackPanel> </DataTemplate> </ListBox.ItemTemplate> </ListBox> </Border> </ControlTemplate> </Setter.Value> </Setter> </Style> <Style TargetType="{x:Type local:ListWrapper}"> <Setter Property="Template"> <Setter.Value> <ControlTemplate TargetType="{x:Type local:ListWrapper}"> <Border Background="{TemplateBinding Background}" BorderBrush="{TemplateBinding BorderBrush}" BorderThickness="{TemplateBinding BorderThickness}"> <local:ListControl ElementList="{TemplateBinding EMList}" /> </Border> </ControlTemplate> </Setter.Value> </Setter> </Style> If I put the controls in the window and binding properties, than the ListControl works fine and shows the elements, but the WrapperList does not. <Window x:Class="MainApplication.Window1" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" xmlns:ui="clr-namespace:UIControl;assembly=UIControl" Title="Window1" Height="304" Width="628"> <Grid> <ui:ListControl x:Name="listCtr" ElementList="{Binding Path=EList}" HorizontalAlignment="Left" Width="300" /> <ui:ListWrapper x:Name="listWrp" EMList="{Binding Path=EList}" HorizontalAlignment="Right" Width="300" Background="Gray"/> </Grid> Project archive

  • strange wpf errors on xp machine

I created an application that has two windows. the second one is opened by .showDialog() command from the first window. on Windows 7 everything works fine but when running on XP the first window works fine but when trying to open the second window the application crash. exception message: Provide value on 'System.Windows.Baml2006.TypeConverterMarkupExtension' threw an exception. and now for the weird part: when changing the application and making the second window run first it opens without a problem. when removing the icon from the second window (it's the same file for both windows) it also runs fine. any ideas on how to solve this?
