  I've been doing a convert(varchar,datefield,112) on each date field that I'm using in 'between' queries in SQL server to ensure that I'm only accounting for dates and not missing any based on the time part of datetime fields. Now, I'm hearing that the converts aren't indexable and that there are better methods, in SQL Server 2005, to compare the date part of datetimes in a query to determine if dates fall in a range. What is the optimal, indexable, method of doing something like this: select * from appointments where appointmentDate='08-01-2008' and appointmentDate<'08-15-2008'

• Drawing of a huge model - How to regain performance?

  I have a huge model I want to draw in my XNA application but because of its size I am experiencing a tremendous loss of performance. The model has about ~50 000 000 edges and has a size on disk of 205 MB in DirectX Format. Please don't ask whether this model has to be that big - yes it has! Is there a way to transfer the model directly to my GPU in order to let the GPU do the drawing like when transferring a VertexBuffer like this: graphicsDevice.Vertices[1].SetSource(_instanceBuffers[i], 0, _sizeofMatrix); because when I try to fill a vertexBuffer with all the vertices I am getting a OutOfMemoryException.

• Why is my model's scale changing after rotating it?

  I have just started a simple flight simulator and have implemented Roll and pitch. In the beginning, testing went very well; however, after about 15-20 seconds of constantly moving the thumbsticks in a random or circular motion, my model's scale begins to grow. At first I thought the model was moving closer to the camera, but i set break points when it was happening and can confirm the translation of my orientation matrix remains 0,0,0. Is this a result of Gimbal Lock?   I'm not sure if this is a question for serverfault or stackoverflow but it seems like it has a lot to do with server config. We have a server in chicago and the server's clock is on chicago time. But since the business is located in California, it would seem to make sense to use pacific time. What happens when server time is Chicago, and php.ini directive date.timezone is set to "America/Los_Angeles"? How will that affect logs written to mysql, error logs, etc? I've looked at the Apache error log and, as I expected, the php directive does not affect it. Times are all servertime. Thanks.

• rkhunter warns of inode change by no file modification date changes

  I have several systems running Centos 6 with rkhunter installed. I have a daily cron running rkhunter and reporting back via email. I very often get reports like: ---------------------- Start Rootkit Hunter Scan ---------------------- Warning: The file properties have changed: File: /sbin/fsck Current inode: 6029384 Stored inode: 6029326 Warning: The file properties have changed: File: /sbin/ip Current inode: 6029506 Stored inode: 6029343 Warning: The file properties have changed: File: /sbin/nologin Current inode: 6029443 Stored inode: 6029531 Warning: The file properties have changed: File: /bin/dmesg Current inode: 13369362 Stored inode: 13369366 From what I understand, rkhunter will usually report a changed hash and/or modification date on the scanned files to, so this leads me to think that there is no real change. My question: is there some other activity on the machine that could make the inode change (running ext4) or is this really yum making regular (~ once a week) changes to these files as part of normal security updates?
