  • How to connect to the internet via command line or graphical utility given I can't click at the top of the screen?

    My Ubuntu 12.04 installation has an input problem resulting preventing me from clicking near the top of the screen. That is, there is an unclickable area, circa 60 pixels high and stretching all the way across the screen. I will ask about this in a later question. For now, I would just like to be able to connect to the internet, given this limitation. I am able to access the network connections application by hitting the super key and typing "network connections". There is a LAN and a wireless network available. The network icon in the bar at the top of the screen shows an empty wedge, which I suppose means that wireless is off. I've attached the cable for the Ethernet connection, but it does not seem to have connected automatically. How can I figure out what's going on? (I'll happily edit in the output of any relevant terminal commands.) Thank you.

    OK, so i have an old external HDD(seagate 1tb) and a windows computer just in case but im trying to set it up as a server for my home at the moment but if everything goes right i want to transfer it to being a database hub for the business i work for that way i can have more then one register at a time on the same basic database. The thing is im new to the whole server part along with im not well versed with ubuntu either so what im getting at is if i can get it setup, can i connect it on ubuntu and run a linux based Point of sales program but have multiple linked to the single server? i may be able to do it via the router, i think its a belkin n600 with usb port but at this moment i dont know what it is since im not home. i just need information if this is possible and if so, a guide would be appreciated.

  • How can I use smbclient to connect to Windows shares by hostname when a firewall is enabled?

    I can't connect to file shares on Windows computers using smbclient -L //hostname when the firewall is enabled. This occurs whether I'm using ufw (which allows outgoing traffic and replies back in with the default configuration) or iptables (where I'm allowing outgoing traffic and replies back in with iptables -A INPUT -m state --state ESTABLISHED,RELATED -j ACCEPT). However, smbclient -L //ip-address works whether the firewall is enabled or not. I also tested this against a Samba server running on Ubuntu and again smbclient -L //hostname does not work when the firewall is enabled, but smbclient -L //ip-address works whether the firewall is enabled or not. For reference, here are the iptables rules I used during testing: *filter :INPUT DROP [0:0] :FORWARD ACCEPT [0:0] :OUTPUT ACCEPT [0:0] -A INPUT -m state --state RELATED,ESTABLISHED -j ACCEPT -A INPUT -p icmp -j ACCEPT -A INPUT -d 224.0.0.251/32 -p udp -m udp --dport 5353 -j ACCEPT COMMIT

  • Ubuntu 12.04 wireless detected, but can't connect to 128-bit WEP enabled microsoft MS-700 base station

    I installed Ubuntu 12.04 on a Presario R 3000. The Wireless card was not detected (firmware missing). Based on several related posts, I downloaded and installed the b43 driver and wireless was finally enabled. However, I am unable to connect to my base station successfully. The base station is configured for WEP 128-bit. I tried both infrastructure mode and ad-hoc mode (with the channel, band, etc. configured). Appreciate any help in trying to get past this.

    When I want to work on my local Linux machines from windows, I use Putty+Xming and I set the Xming port in Putty connection settings. This way I have a terminal on the machine and if, for example, I run the command 'firefox' a firefox window is opened in Windows (while it is really running on the Linux machine). I want to do the same thing from other Linux machine (they are both Ubuntu machine) connect by SSH and become this connection X Server so any graphic component will be opened on local machine. How can I do that?

  • In 12.04, with my Linksys WUSB54G USB adapter I can see the networks, but cannot connect to any of them

    I recently loaded Ubuntu version 12.04 onto my computer, and I have a WUSB54G v4 USB wireless adapter. I first tried to get it to work by simply plugging my adapter into an open USB port. This seemed to work fine, it came up with a list of wireless adapters, so I clicked on the correct one and entered the security code. It looked like it was going to connect. It tried for about five minutes before I stopped it. I then decided to create a network as I also have one setup. I did this and it connected, only one problem, I couldn't get onto the internet. Please help me, I am new to Ubuntu and am totally lost.

    Would like a script, when run, it should connect to a hidden wireless network with these details: SSID is "Wireless" Network is not broadcasting its SSID above (is hidden) WPA2-PSK, AES, password is "password" Static IP: 192.168.1.1 Def. gateway: 192.168.1.254 DNS: 192.168.1.254 No idea how to do this. But I do know the wireless interface is called wlan0 and I'm on Ubuntu 10.10. I don't want to use the built in Network Manager as it never auto-connects on startup. WICD doesn't work either. Any ideas most welcome.

    I'm trying to use stunnel to secure a legacy application's communications. I can't seem to get it setup and working. Can anyone provide any hints where I'm going wrong? Here's what I'm trying to accomplish: A windows service on a client machine connects to a server on port 7000 using TCP. I'd like to encrypt the communication between client and server. Here's what I've tried: Created a new server that accepts ssl connections on port 7443. Got a certificate for the server and installed it. That seems to work with my test setup. Installed stunnel on my windows machine (version 7.43 from the distribution archive file). Installed libssl32.dll and libeay32.dll in the same directory as stunnel.exe ( from the openssl-0.9.8h-1 binary distribution). Installed it as a service using "stunnel -install" Configured stunnel as follows: debug=7 output=C:\p4\internal\Utility\Proxy\proxy.log service=Proxy taskbar=no [exchange] accept=7000 client=yes connect=proxy.blah.com:7443 I changed my hosts file to trick the old application into connecting through stunnel: server.blah.com 127.0.0.1 # when client looks up server it goes to stunnel proxy.blah.com IP-address-of-server.blah.com # stunnel connects to new server "server.blah.com" now resolves to the machine it's running on (i.e. stunnel). "proxy.blah.com" goes to the real server. stunnel should connect to the server. I start the stunnel service and try to connect.   • Is it possible to connect slots of a model object to the GUI in QT4 -Designer?

    So I try to build a Model-View window using QTDesigner and C++. For that reason I created a QOBject derived class as my model. It provides slots and signals to access it like: setFileName(QString) or fileNameChanged(QString). I got a little into using signal drag and drop in QTDesigner and found it quite VA-Smalltalk-Like nice. After a while I was wondering if I could also connect my model to this. So is it possible to somehow introduce my model object into the Window/GUI and let QTDesigner connect signals and slots from the model object to the GUI. In essence: Write for me: connect( model, SIGNAL(fileNameChanged(QString)), ui->labelFn, SLOT(setText(QString))) connect( ui-textEdit2, SIGNAL(textChanged(QString)), model, SLOT(setFileName(QString))) Thanks for explaining

I'm trying to connect to an embedded device with a BlueSMiRF Gold chip. My working Python code (using the PyBluez library), which I'd like to port to Android, is as follows: sock = bluetooth.BluetoothSocket(proto=bluetooth.RFCOMM) sock.connect((device_addr, 1)) return sock.makefile() ...so the service to connect to is simply defined as channel 1, without any SDP lookup. As the only documented mechanism I see in the Android API does SDP lookup of a UUID, I'm slightly at a loss.

    I'm supporting an old vb.net program whose database it connected to was moved from SQL Server 2005 to SQL Server 2008. Is there a setting on SQL Server 2008 which will allow ODBC connections to access the database but not allow VB.NET to connect to it programmatically? the error i keep receiving in the app is: An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 – Could not open a connection to SQL Server) however I can connect to it when I create a system dsn to the sql server instance and through VS2005's Tools Connect to Database.   • Can I stop SQL*Plus from displaying "connected" when I have a "connect" in a script?

    I have a few sql scripts that I need to run via SQL*Plus. These scripts connect several times as different users with a connect user_01/pass_01@db_01. Now, each time the script does such a connect, it confirms the successful connection with a connected. This is distracting and I want to turn it off. I can achieve what I want with a set termout off connect user_01/pass_01@db_01 set termout on Is there a more elegant solution to my problem? Note, it doesn't help to permanently set termout off at the start of the script since I need to know if a command didn't run successfully.

The thread and does not throw any exception. So when I try to close application while connect() is running its not responding. How can I cancel it?     I was looking for a way to portfoward 0.0.0.0 default gateways and I found in a Microsoft page that I had to try the command route delete 0.0.0.0, my internet disconnected and I couldn't connect to the internet anymore...     I need to connect to a VPS and I'm running Vista Home Basic. TightVNC and TeamViewer both require access to the VPS first, because they require that the server be set up with TightVNC or TeamViewer. Is there anything similar to Remote Desktop that will allow me to use the IP address and administrator password to the VPS to simply connect, rather than having to have the hosting company set up VNC or TeamViewer on the server first?   • Setting up router: I can get online via Ethernet, and I can connect to router wirelessly, but can't

    I'm setting up a new D-Link N300 router, and trying to connect a MacBook Pro and a MacBook, both running OS X 10.6. As the question says, either computer can connect to the internet when connected to the router via Ethernet. And either one can get on the router's wireless network. But when connected wirelessly (without the Ethernet cable plugged in), neither one can get online. I can't figure out why that would be. Any help appreciated.

    How will I find out my iseries server name? I checked through "nslookup" it gives one ip address & I tried to connect TN5250 session to cconnect but could not connect. from dos command line c:\nslookup default server : unknown ip address : 192.168.50.119 Then I tried ping with this IP address - it's giving reply from the above IP address Then I have given this id in TN5250 session, but says can not create a connection to the AS/400.
