  • Windows Azure Evolution &ndash; Deploy Web Sites (WAWS Part 3)

    - by Shaun
This is the sixth post of my Windows Azure Evolution series. After talked a bit about the new caching preview feature in the previous one, let’s back to the Windows Azure Web Sites (WAWS).   Git and GitHub Integration In the third post I introduced the overview functionality of WAWS and demonstrated how to create a WordPress blog through the build-in application gallery. And in the fourth post I covered how to use the TFS service preview to deploy an ASP.NET MVC application to the web site through the TFS integration. WAWS also have the Git integration. I’m not going to talk very detailed about the Git and GitHub integration since there are a bunch of information on the internet you can refer to. To enable the Git just go to the web site item in the developer portal and click the “Set up Git publishing”. After specified the username and password the windows azure platform will establish the Git integration and provide some basic guide. As you can see, you can download the Git binaries, commit the files and then push to the remote repository. Regarding the GitHub, since it’s built on top of Git it should work. Maarten Balliauw have a wonderful post about how to integrate GitHub to Windows Azure Web Site you can find here.   WebMatrix 2 RC WebMatrix is a lightweight web application development tool provided by Microsoft. It utilizes WebDeploy or FTP to deploy the web application to the server. And in WebMatrix 2.0 RC it added the feature to work with Windows Azure. First of all we need to download the latest WebMatrix 2 through the Web Platform Installer 4.0. Just open the WebPI and search “WebMatrix”, or go to its home page download its web installer. Once we have WebMatrix 2, we need to download the publish file of our WAWS. Let’s go to the developer portal and open the web site we want to deploy and download the publish file from the link on the right hand side. This file contains the necessary information of publishing the web site through WebDeploy and FTP, which can be used in WebMatrix, Visual Studio, etc.. Once we have the publish file we can open the WebMatrix, click the Open Site, Remote Site. Then it will bring up a dialog where we can input the information of the remote site. Since we have our publish file already, we can click the “Import publish settings” and select the publish file, then we can see the site information will be populated automatically. Click OK, the WebMatrix will connect to the remote site, which is the WAWS we had deployed already, retrieve the folders and files information. We can open files in WebMatrix and modify. But since WebMatrix is a lightweight web application tool, we cannot update the backend C# code. So in this case, we will modify the frontend home page only. After saved our modification, WebMatrix will compare the files between in local and remote and then it will only upload the modified files to Windows Azure through the connection information in the publish file. Since it only update the files which were changed, this minimized the bandwidth and deployment duration. After few seconds we back to the website and the modification had been applied.   Visual Studio and WebDeploy The publish file we had downloaded can be used not only in WebMatrix but also Visual Studio. As we know in Visual Studio we can publish a web application by clicking the “Publish” item from the project context menu in the solution explorer, and we can specify the WebDeploy, FTP or File System for the publish target. Now we can use the WAWS publish file to let Visual Studio publish the web application to WAWS. Let’s create a new ASP.NET MVC Web Application in Visual Studio 2010 and then click the “Publish” in solution explorer. Once we have the Windows Azure SDK 1.7 installed, it will update the web application publish dialog. So now we can import the publish information from the publish file. Select WebDeploy as the publish method. We can select FTP as well, which is supported by Windows Azure and the FTP information was in the same publish file. In the last step the publish wizard can check the files which will be uploaded to the remote site before the actually publishing. This gives us a chance to review and amend the files. Same as the WebMatrix, Visual Studio will compare the files between local and WAWS and determined which had been changed and need to be published. Finally Visual Studio will publish the web application to windows azure through WebDeploy protocol. Once it finished we can browse our website.   FTP Deployment The publish file we downloaded contains the connection information to our web site via both WebDeploy and FTP. When using WebMatrix and Visual Studio we can select WebDeploy or FTP. WebDeploy method can be used very easily from WebMatrix and Visual Studio, with the file compare feature. But the FTP gives more flexibility. We can use any FTP client to upload files to windows azure regardless which client and OS we are using. Open the publish file in any text editor, we can find the connection information very easily. As you can see the publish file is actually a XML file with WebDeploy and FTP information in plain text attributes. And once we have the FTP URL, username and password, when can connect to the site and upload and download files. For example I opened FileZilla and connected to my WAWS through FTP. Then I can download files I am interested in and modify them on my local disk. Then upload back to windows azure through FileZilla. Then I can see the new page.   Summary In this simple and quick post I introduced vary approaches to deploy our web application to Windows Azure Web Site. It supports TFS integration which I mentioned previously. It also supports Git and GitHub, WebDeploy and FTP as well.   Hope this helps, Shaun All documents and related graphics, codes are provided "AS IS" without warranty of any kind. • Trouble compiling MonoDevelop 4 on Ubuntu 12.04

I'm trying to compile the latest version of MonoDevelop (4.0.9) on my Ubuntu 12.04 and I'm facing errors I can not overcome. • Is there a distributed project management software like Redmine?

    - by Tobias Kienzler
I am quite familiar with and love using git, among other reasons due to its distributed nature. Now I'd like to set up some similarly distributed (FOSS) Project Management software with features similar to what Redmine offers, such as Issue & time tracking, milestones Gantt charts, calendar git integration, maybe some automatic linking of commits and issues Wiki (preferably with Mathjax support) Forum, news, notifications Multiple Projects However, I am looking for a solution that does not require a permanently accesible server, i.e. like in git, each user should have their own copy which can be easily synchronized with others. However it should be possible to not have a copy of every Project on every machine. Since trac uses multiple instances for multiple projects anyway, I was considering using that, but I neither know how well it adapts to simply giting the database itself (which would be be easiest way to handle the distribution due to git being used anyway), nor does it include all of Redmine's feature. So, can you recommend me a distributed project management software? If your suggestion is a software that usually runs on a server please include a description of the distribution method (e.g. whether simply putting the data in a git repository would do the trick), and if it's e.g. trac, please mention plugins required to include the features mentioned.

  • Error installing avogadro with CMake 'lconvert: could not exec No such file or directory'

    - by Orr22
I'm brand new in ubuntu. I'm trying to install Avogadro. The program need the following packages, which I could install: CMake - OpenBabel 2.3.2 - Qt4 - Git - Eigen2. Here it is the recepy to install the : cd $HOME/src git clone git://github.com/cryos/avogadro.git mkdir -p $HOME/build/avogadro cd $HOME/build/avogadro cmake $HOME/src/avogadro make -j2 sudo make install It was unable to compile, but when I skipped the 'git clone' step it seemed to work just fine. After several stops during the CMake compiling process (software actualizations, get Doxygen, get flex, get bison) I was able to compile. But when I introduce the 'make -j2' command the installation stops as follows: Orr22@javi-87:~/build_avogadro$ make -j2 [ 0%] Built target elementcolor [ 0%] Built target bsdyengine [ 2%] Built target spglib [ 3%] Built target navigatetool [ 4%] Built target tubegen [ 4%] Generating libavogadro_hu.qm [ 6%] Built target OpenQube [ 6%] Generating moc_animation.cxx lconvert: could not exec '/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/qt5/bin/lconvert': No such file or directory make[2]: *** [libavogadro/src/libavogadro_hu.qm] Error 1 make[2]: *** Se espera a que terminen otras tareas.... make[1]: *** [libavogadro/src/CMakeFiles/avogadro.dir/all] Error 2 make: *** [all] Error 2 Any suggestions to proceed? Thanks in advance, Orr22

  • Repositories for CentOS that don't suck?

    - by Keyo
I'm used to using ubuntu/debian repositories and they are great. I can apt-get just about any package and it'll be there. I have not found this on centos. I called my hosting company and they suggest I install atomic turtle since it's compatible with cPanel. This didn't work when I tried to install git. yum install git ... No package git available Repeat the same thing for just about any package, the default repositories are pathetic. So perhaps there are other repositories I can use. Can anyone suggest any? Edit The problem was cPanel excluding some git dependencies in yum.conf. See http://www.cmdln.org/2010/05/07/install-git-on-centos-cpanel-server/

  • What Windows editor has CORRECT EOL whitespace handling?

    - by blueshift
I'm looking for a Windows text editor for programming that handles EOL whitespace CORRECTLY, which for my idea of correct means: Strip all EOL whitespace on save, EXCEPT on lines that I haven't edited. This is to minimise the amount of EOL whitespace evil in my world, but not pollute SCM diff/blame with whitespace-only fixes (I have to deal with old / other people's code). I have played with TextPad, Notepad++, Kodomo Edit and Programmer's Notepad 2, and found all of them lacking. Also: I don't get along with vi, and I am unsure about Emacs on Windows. @Matti Virkkunen: I could mess with diff, but I want to fix the problem, not the symptoms. Fixing diff means all my, others, and server side diff tools need to be fixed, and doesn't fix space/noise/hash change issues in SCM. Example pet hate using that system: "update" tells me a file has changed. Diff shows no changes.

  • Scheme - What is wrong with my attempt to extend this declaration?

    - by CppLearner
This is a homework question. Question My attempt (the whole file): http://pastebin.com/vt3Q3dqs If you search let var = exp1 in body, that's the function I need to extend according to the question. When I test the sample code above, I get an error apply-env: No binding for y (eval "let x = 30 in let x = -(x,1) y = -(x,2) in -(x,y)") ; The following is execution log The-next-two-lines-shows-var-and-exp1 (x) (#(struct:const-exp 30)) diff-exp #(struct:var-exp x) #(struct:const-exp 1) diff-exp #(struct:var-exp x) #(struct:const-exp 2) The-next-two-lines-shows-var-and-exp1 (x y) (#(struct:diff-exp #(struct:var-exp x) #(struct:const-exp 1)) #(struct:diff-exp #(struct:var-exp x) #(struct:const-exp 2))) diff-exp #(struct:var-exp x) #(struct:var-exp y) As you can see, when the interperter reads the last line -(x,y) it complains because there is no binding. What did I do wrong? I know this is really long language, but if anyone can kindly lead me to the right direction would be really really nice. Thank you!

  • PHP Datediff days involved

    - by user3549835
I need to know how many days are involved in a date diff. \For example: <? $start = new DateTime('2014-06-29 14:00:00'); $ende = new DateTime('2014-07-02 05:45:00'); $diff = $start->diff($ende); echo $diff->format('%R'); echo $diff->days; ?> The above code echos +2 My desired result would be 4, because the 29th, 30th, 1st and 2nd of July are "touched". I have no idea to achieve that with the given functions. Coding a day-subtraction seems to bean open door for errors.

  • Looping over commits for a file with jGit

    - by Andy Jarrett
I've managed to get to grips with the basics of jGit file in terms of connecting to a repos and adding, commiting, and even looping of the commit messages for the files. File gitDir = new File("/Users/myname/Sites/helloworld/.git"); RepositoryBuilder builder = new RepositoryBuilder(); Repository repository; repository = builder.setGitDir(gitDir).readEnvironment() .findGitDir().build(); Git git = new Git(repository); RevWalk walk = new RevWalk(repository); RevCommit commit = null; // Add all files // AddCommand add = git.add(); // add.addFilepattern(".").call(); // Commit them // CommitCommand commit = git.commit(); // commit.setMessage("Commiting from java").call(); Iterable<RevCommit> logs = git.log().call(); Iterator<RevCommit> i = logs.iterator(); while (i.hasNext()) { commit = walk.parseCommit( i.next() ); System.out.println( commit.getFullMessage() ); } What I want to do next is be able to get all the commit message for a single file and then be able revert the single file back to a specific reference/point in time.

  • Is git / tortoisegit ready to replace snv / tortoisesvn on windows?

    - by opensas
I've been using svn thru tortoise and svn:// protocol on windows for a couple of years and I'm pretty comfortable with it. Nevertheless tThere are a couple of features I'd like to hove, mainly shelves (something like local commits) and easier branch / merge support. From my experience, svn / tortoise on windows is rock solid stuff. I was wondering if git / tortoisegit has achieved the level of maturity and stability so as to be a replacement for svn on windows. Any experience about it? saludos sas some links: a similar question, only a bit outdated http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1500400/is-tortoisegit-ready-for-prime-time-yet http://stackoverflow.com/questions/931105/tortoisegit-tortoisebzr-tortoisehg-are-any-solid-enough-to-switch-from-tortois (well, it seems like mercurial could be an option) http://code.google.com/p/tortoisegit/ http://www.syntevo.com/smartgit/index.html (free of charge for non-commercial use or to active members of the Open Source community)

  • Angle between two 2d vectors, diff between two methods?

I've got this code snippet, and I'm wondering why the results of the first method differ from the results of the second method, given the same input? public double AngleBetween_1(vector a, vector b) { var dotProd = a.Dot(b); var lenProd = a.Len*b.Len; var divOperation = dotProd/lenProd; return Math.Acos(divOperation) * (180.0 / Math.PI); } public double AngleBetween_2(vector a, vector b) { var dotProd = a.Dot(b); var lenProd = a.Len*b.Len; var divOperation = dotProd/lenProd; return (1/Math.Cos(divOperation)) * (180.0 / Math.PI); }

  • How can I send out diff's of submitted changes to the entire project whenever someone commits a chan

    - by Alex
I'd like to be able to send all the contributors working on a project a message whenever a commit is made. This way, everyone sees the contribution, and hopefully someone will take a look and spot bugs and whatnot. Furthermore, it provides our bosses with a nice and simple, if a little incomprehensible, way to get an idea of how the project is progressing. We're using Mercurial right now.

  • What's the diff between VSS 6.0 and VSS 2005?

    - by Peter Turner
We've been using VSS 6.0 since time began, but yesterday I nabbed VSS2005 off of our MSDN subscription, it wouldn't let me install it off the ISO through Daemon Tools (not sure why, but I submitted error report to MS...). I noticed it had a program files directory right on the ISO, so I just copied the folder onto my hard drive. Well, I opened up the client and behold, a glamorous version of VSS 6.0 connected to the exact same DB. Anyone know if I'm going to destroy everything by using it?

  • Why is PHP date() adding +1 hour in diff calculation?

    - by Lex
Hi there, I've got kind of a tricky question, I already searched every related question on Stackoverflow and neither solved my conundrum, although I think I'm running in circles, so here's the question: I've got this code: $val = (strtotime('2010-03-22 10:05:00')-strtotime('2010-03-22 09:00:00')) This returns correctly $val = 3900 (3600 seconds = 1 hour, 300 seconds = 5 mins) But doing this: echo date("H:i",$val)."<br>"; returns 02:05 even doing this: echo date("H:i",3900)."<br>"; returns 02:05 (just to be naively sure) Doing this: echo date("H:i eTO",3900)."<br>"; returns 02:05 System/LocaltimeCET+0100 Which is correct, my timezone is CET and is +1. What's going on? Is date() correcting the timezone for some reason? Or am I doing anything wrong?

  • Is there a file diff tool that allows for exceptions?

    - by Kevin
We currently use Beyond Compare 3.0 and I am quite pleased with it. However, it would be great if I could easily specify an exclusion for a specific one-time case. This is needed when I am doing a code review of some refactoring. For instance: Old code doSomething(ConstantsInterface.FOOBAR); New code: doSomething(BetterEnumeration.FOOBAR); In this case, I have hundreds of changes that I am reviewing that are essentially all the same exact change and I just want to see the exceptions. It would be great if I could easily specify an exception that indicates these two cases are equal. I know of a way to do it in the grammar, but it is tedious and cumbersome in the case where there are ten or so exceptions. Any other tips?

  • Is it possible to have a mysql table accept a null value for a primary_key column referencing a diff

    - by Dr.Dredel
I have a table that has a column which holds the id of a row in another table. However, when table A is being populated, table B may or may not have a row ready for table A. My question is, is it possible to have mysql prevent an invalid value from being entered but be ok with a NULL? or does a foreign key necessitate a valid related value? So... what I'm looking for (in pseudo code) is this: Table "person" id | name Table "people" id | group_name | person_id (foreign key id from table person) insert into person (1, 'joe'); insert into people (1, 'foo', 1)//kosher insert into people (1, 'foo', NULL)//also kosher insert into people(1, 'foo', 7)// should fail since there is no id 7 in the person table. The reason I need this is that I'm having a chicken and egg issue where it makes perfect sense for the rows in the people table to be created before hand (in this example, I'm creating the groups and would like them to pre-exist the people who join them). And I realize that THIS example is silly and I would just put the group id in the person table rather than vice-versa, but in my real-world problem that is not workable. Just curious if I need to allow any and all values in order to make this work, or if there's some way to allow for null.

  • What's a good way to set up a development environment on OS X for ruby, rails, and git?

    - by Ein2015
I'm going to start development on a web app using ruby, rails, probably either postgres or mysql, and most likely apache. I'll be using a git repository with the master repo on another server. I've searched through stackoverflow and done some Googling... so here's what I have so far... What are your opinions on what's described on this page?: http://robots.thoughtbot.com/post/159805668/2009-rubyists-guide-to-a-mac-os-x-development What about this one?: http://www.buildingwebapps.com/articles/79197-setting-up-rails-on-leopard-mac I don't need helping finding an editor, there's plenty out there (TextMate, TextWrangler, MacVim), but I do need help to make sure I'm setting things up correctly to code, build, and run the web app from my mac. Here's a specific set of scenarios I could use some help on: Testing various versions of rails and/or ruby. Testing performance, vulnerabilities, monitoring queries, etc. Testing different versions of gems. Working on other projects on this same machine.

  • Is there a way to intersect/diff a std::map and a std::set?

    - by Jack
I'm wondering if there a way to intersect or make the differences between two structures defined as std::set<MyData*> and std::map<MyData*, MyValue> with standard algorithms (like std::set_intersect) The problem is that I need to compute the difference between the set and the keyset of the map but I would like to avoid reallocating it (since it's something that is done many times per second with large data structures). Is there a way to obtain a "key view" of the std::map? After all what I'm looking is to consider just the keys when doing the set operation so from an implementation point it should be possible but I haven't been able to find anything.
