• Great Circle & Rhumb line intersection

  I have a Latitude, Longitude, and a direction of travel in degrees true north. I would like to calculate if I will intersect a line defined by two more Lat/Lon points. I figure the two points defining the line would create my great circle and my location and azimuth would define my Rhumb line. I am only interested in intersections that will occur with a few hundred kilometers so I do not need every possible solution. I have no idea where to begin.

  I need a basic function to find the shortest distance between a point and a line segment. Feel free to write the solution in any language you want; I can translate it into what I'm using (Javascript). EDIT: My line segment is defined by two endpoints. So my line segment AB is defined by the two points A (x1,y1) and B (x2,y2). I'm trying to find the distance between this line segment and a point C (x3,y3). My geometry skills are rusty, so the examples I've seen are confusing, I'm sorry to admit.

• DOS Batch file to echo a specific line number

  So for the second part of my current dilemma, I have a list of folders in "c:\file_list.txt". I need to be able to extract them (well, echo them with some mods) based on the line number because this batch script is being called by an iterative macro process. I'm passing the line number as a parameter. @echo off setlocal enabledelayedexpansion set /a counter=0 set /a %%a = "" for /f "usebackq delims=" %%a in (c:\file_list.txt) do (if "!counter!"=="%1" goto :printme & set /a counter+=1) :printme echo %%a which gives me an output of "%a". Doh! So, I've tried echoing !a! (result: "ECHO is off."); I've tried echoing %a (result: a) I figured the easy thing to do would be to modify the "head.bat" code found here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/130116/dos-batch-commands-to-read-first-line-from-text-file except rather than echoing every line - I'd just echo the last line found. Not as simple as one might think. I've noticed that my counter is staying at zero for some reason; I'm wondering if the "set /a counter+=1" is doing what I think it's doing.

• command prompt DIR with wildcard returns unexpected results

  I am running 2003 server (latest service pack). • CSS font-size causing the last line to be too high

  OK, I have a list (<ul>) then inside each <li> element I have an <a...> Here are all the applicable CSS items to the <a> tag .search_area li a { font-size:11px; } sResCntr li { list-style-type:none; } body { font-family:Arial; } Everything looked great, until I put that font-size:11px in there. The problem is that the hyperlinks wrap to multiple lines within the list (which is fine). But when I decrease the font-size, the last line of the hyperlink always has a larger gap between it and the line above it than the other lines. All the other lines look good, but the last line looks like it is 1.5 spaced or something. I have adjusted the line-height property, but always the last line is larger than the rest. If you need a demo to look at to see what I mean, I can arrange it when I get home.

  Hi. One frustrating behavior in vim is that when i move my cursor right or left (respectively "l" or "h)" and i am at the end or the beginning of the line, my cursor doesn't move to first column of next line or last column of previous line. Is there a way to change this behavior ?

  I've got about a dozen Windows XP machines that I need to make a couple specific printer configuration changes to. The printer is "virtual" printer for an electronic delivery service. I'd like to not have to visit each machine individually. I already have the means to execute commands remotely on the machines, I just can't seem to find away to adjust these settings via command line or script. Specifically I need to be able to make the following changes: 1) As an admin user: - Device Settings - Font Substitution Table/Courier New - Change to "Courier" 2) As a specific* user: - Printer Preferences - Paper/Quality - Advanced - Change Graphic/Print Quality to "600 x 600" - Change Document Options/Printer Features/Graphics Mode to "HP-GL/2" *This change is a per user configuration, unless there's some way to make it once. In this situation I only really need it for a specific (different) user on each machine.

• Weird execution of ruby/git executables in Windows

  Something strange has happened. I can't run some command line executables in Windows anymore. Steps: Open cmd Run an executable, such as ruby -v or git -h When I do that, a new command prompt opens, running that command (I think, it's too fast to see), and instantly closes again. I've managed to print screen the new command prompt, and it shows that it's running inside this path: C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Temp\3582-490 Inside this folder, is the executable I'm tring to run. If I run ruby, then ruby.exe is in there. If I run git, then git.exe is in there. And it's always emptying the folder in between, so there is always just one .exe file

• Rsync plugin to many local wordpress installs via script or cli

  I am maintaining a large number of wordpress installs on a production server, and we are looking to deploy InfiniteWP for managing these installs. I am looking for a way to script the distribution of the plugin folder to all of these installs. On server wp-prod, all sites are stored in /srv//site/ The plugin needs to be copied from ~/iws-plugin to /srv//site/wp-content/plugins/ Here's some pseudo code to explain what I need to do: array dirs = <all folders in /srv> for each d in dirs if exits "/srv/d/site/wp-content/plugins" rsync -avzh --log-file=~/d.log ~/plugin_base_folder /srv/d/site/wp-content/plugins/ else touch d.log echo 'plugin folder for "d" not found' >> ~/d.log end end I just don't know how to make it happen from the cli or via bash. I can (and will) tinker with a bash or ruby script on my test server, but I'm thinking the command-line-fu here on SF is strong enough to handle this issue much more quickly than I can hack together a solution. • Count white spaces to the left of a line in a text file using C++

  Hi all, I am just trying to count the number of white spaces to the LEFT of a line from a text file. I have been using count( line.begin(), line.end(), ' ' ); but obviously that includes ALL white spaces to the left, in between words and to the right. So basically what I'm wanting it to do is once it hits a non-space character stop it from counting the white spaces. Thanks everyone.

  I want to use sendmail to send me stuff and want to do it in a oneliner. echo "mail content" | sendmail emailataddres.com Sends it without subject. The subject line must come before the Mail content, so I am looking for something along the lines of: echo "mail content" | prepend "Subject: All that matters" | sendmail emailataddres.com sed and awk tend to be really awkward to use and remember. EDIT:Just to clarify: echo "Mail content" is just an illustrating example. I need to be able to prepend stuff to stdout streams from any source. e.g.: ifconfig, zcat, etc..

• Holy grail layout with 100% height

  I am trying to make a css layout that looks like this http://oi53.tinypic.com/o0v0vp.jpg The CSS term for this type of layout is known as the "holy grail" I think. The problem I am facing is that when I use layouts and solutions I find online I do not get them to work properly as I want them to. What I am trying to do is make a page that, regardless of content, will have the footer at the bottom of the browser and the columns stretching down to it. So far I have only seen pages that have the footer placed where the content stop, the result is some blank space under the footer. If anyone could help me out on this it would be greatly appreciated!

• How do I install Netatalk in Ubuntu 9.10 (tutorial)?

  I have never installed Netatalk before. I have to help someone get this up and running on a Ubuntu 9.10 server and I don't know if there is any special configuration or install steps I need to follow in Ubuntu 9.10 to get it up and running. I know in older versions of Ubuntu, specifically, special OS changes and configuration needs to be done in order to get it to work properly. Do I need to work around any of those issues in 9.10? I am doing this remotely through ssh, so I prefer instruction via command-line. Thanks!

• Start jade via batch script as service on windows server 2012 amazon ec2 instance

  I would like to start the Jade agent platform with a batch script on an windows server ec2 instance as a service. The reason for this is, that I want to start jade automatically at system startup. For creating the service I use nssm. However so far its working fine and the service is created. When I want to start the service I get an error message: Windows could not start the NAME service on Local Computer. The service did not return an error... My batch file contains only one line: java jade.Boot -platform-id P%random% If i execute the script via cmd it works fine. Anybody got an idea why this is not working if I start the batch script as a service?

• Save a single web page (with background images) with Wget

  I want to use Wget to save single web pages (not recursively, not whole sites) for reference. Much like Firefox's "Web Page, complete". My first problem is: I can't get Wget to save background images specified in the CSS. Even if it did save the background image files I don't think --convert-links would convert the background-image URLs in the CSS file to point to the locally saved background images. Firefox has the same problem. My second problem is: If there are images on the page I want to save that are hosted on another server (like ads) these wont be included. --span-hosts doesn't seem to solve that problem with the line below. I'm using: wget --no-parent --timestamping --convert-links --page-requisites --no-directories --no-host-directories -erobots=off http://domain.tld/webpage.html

• Secure copy in Linux

  Hi all, I wanna simpy exchange 3 directories to a collegue's home directory (I dont have write access to that one) from my home directory, probably using secure copy if possible. I am not good with Linux command line, so I am not sure how to do that and I would very much appreciate it if somebody could help me a bit out with this. I guess it should look something like that scp -r /home/user1/directoy1 /home/user2/directoy1 scp -r /home/user1/directoy2 /home/user2/directoy2 scp -r /home/user1/directoy3 /home/user2/directoy3 Do I need to specify the login name of my collegue so that the files can be copied when he enters his password? • ubuntu fails to start

  I have a laptop with ubuntu 9.10 which fails to start, and I want to copy the data from it to an external hard disk. I can login in recovery mode command line, but then I cannot mount the external hard drive. (in recovery mode I cannot write to the laptops hard drive) If I boot from an portable USB with mintlinux, I can mount the external harddrive, and copy most of the data from the laptop, however there is a dir which I have no rights to access under /home/user/Documents then I get a permission denied error. Are there any other options?

• Script to set "Hide file extensions"

  I'm tired of the multi-step process to set my preferred folder options on every server to which I log on (Mostly Win2008, but also some 2012 and Win7 here and there). I'd love to be able to script the process, but unfortunately, I can't find any commands or extensions to do so for folder options. There are several settings I'd like to change, but in particular, I'd like to set "Hide file extensions for known file types" to false. I figure that if I can do that, I'll be able to manage any additional settings on my own. Methods that work on the vanilla command line would be preferred, but if there are commands in PowerShell, I'll use that.

  I want to put my windows pc (win7) into a sleep state via command line (so i can bind to macro button on keyboard). The power button on the PC is setup to but the computer to sleep (but it's down on the floor and I'm too lazy to reach down) it exactly how I want it (sleeps using hybrid mode in case I loose power) The sleep command on the shutdown menu also works. most info I found says to use; %windir%\system32\rundll32.exe PowrProf.dll, SetSuspendState 0,1,0 But this puts the computer in hibernate mode. I do have hibernate disabled but using hybrid sleep. So, What is the command to use to put your computer to sleep (not hibernate)?

• reg delete gives me "access is denied" but regedit delete is ok

  I need to delete a key from a command line. So I wanted to use reg delete "the key to be deleted" /f but I get ERROR: access is denied. From the same login session (the same user) I am able to delete the key without any troubles from regedit.exe that is not run as administrator. I cannot use runas command to execute reg that I believe would be to solution because in fact I want to use reg to delete registry entry for administrator profile so runas works again.   How can I simultaneously run dozens of PHP scripts in the background from XAMPP's command line interface? Someone suggested a batch file, but when I tried executing this: start php 1.php start php 2.php start php 3.php It only opened a command prompt window; I closed that window, then two more command prompt windows opened up executing 2.php and 3.php. I want to run as many scripts as I want all simultaneously and all in the background. What is the best way to accomplish this, and how can it be done?
