  I am a beginner in game development. As a part of learning and fun, want to create a game in java-script and html5. I am planning a game that we were used to play in childhood, that is "new business"- a monopoly game, in that we used to buy ,rent,sell places and bank we get some money to play and etc. are features.   I want to develop an application which would have it's own framework, using which developer can implement functionality very easily. Developer shouldn't have to code for each and every page or report. But, he can do it very easily by just configuring it using the framework provided. Some nice examples of it is SAP and Tally. They have got their own framework, using which anybody having knowledge of it can customize or extend functionality of the product. But, as I am beginner in this direction, I don't have any idea about where to start. Can anybody point me to some design pattern which I can follow or some similar open source software which I can refer?

• How to share/access to partition from ubuntu vmware

  I am beginner at Ubuntu. Here is my problem. I have Ubuntu installed on my external HDD and i am running XP through vmware on Ubuntu, because my internal disk is dead atm. External HDD have ext4 (37gb) and 2 NTFS partition (36gb and 220gb). My question is, how i can access that 220gb (or 36gb) NTFS partition from vmware XP? I have posted small questions on Perl/Python and I have recieved great help from everyone. Note:- I am not in a hurry to learn. I know it takes time and that's fine. Please give any suggestions you think are valid. Also, please don't push me to learn Lisp, Haskell etc - I am a beginner.

  I want to tackle some basic 3-D collision detection and was wondering how engines handle this and give you a pretty interface and make it so easy ... I want to do it all myself, however. 2-D collision detection is extremely simple and can be done multiple ways that even beginner programmers could think up: 1.When the pixels touch; 2.when a rectangle range is exceeded; 3.when a pixel object is detected near another one in a pixel-based rendering engine. But 3-D is different with one dimension, but complex in many more so ... what are the general, basic understanding/examples on how 3-D collision detection can be implemented? Think two shaded, OpenGL cubes that are moved next to each other with a simple OpenGL rendering context and keyboard events.

• How do you usually manage callbacks in Java using Swing library?

  I'm quite new to the Java Swing programming, and GUI development as well. As a beginner, I'm currently reading Design Pattern, but finding what I'm looking for is quite hard, most of the times. So far, I've never had huge problems defining a view hierarchy - I just use to subclass component from component. But the hard-to-do here is how managing callbacks, which often become hard to maintain due to the hard code. During my last projects, I tried to separate GUI, Listener and Callbacker objects which cooperated together, but in this way it was really hard adding new features. So, which kind of best patterns or best practices do you tend to use when trying to maintain, add new features or even worst avoid to hard-code classes which manage callbacks method in this kind of frameworks (mainly Java Swing)?

• Which game library/engine to choose?

  I'm not a programming beginner at all. I've tried 2 libraries/engines so far, allegro and Unity. For allegro. i think its not good if i wanna make a career in gaming industry since its not powerful enough. I don't feel comfortable with unity. Its more like a software like photoshop or flash. You can do almost everything with pre-defined functions, tools and with less coding. I need something which offers less tools and pre defined functions and more coding work. It would be awesome if its free and c/c++ based. I need both 2D/3D. and please, don't tell me to make my own library, i am not "that" advance. Any other information about gaming industry would be greatly appreciated.

  I am building a small social web application. I am developing it with rails. I want some cheap or free image hosting which I can use as my image repository for my website because I can't afford Amazon cloud store or something like that. Can I use flickr, imageshack or service something like that? Do they allow me to store images for my website? • Issues with upgrade to ubuntu 14.04

  First, I should say that I am a total beginner. When answering, please do not take for granted that I understand even the most basic step. Now for my question: Yesterday, I was given the option to update to ubuntu 14.04. I clicked yes, and the system took about 2.5 hours to accomplish this task. Now, whenever I log into my user account, I get an error message and then I am asked to authenticate my user account. When I try to enter the password, my computer freezes. Please help, what can I do to fix this?

• How can I build this payment receipt/booking application?

  I'm planning to build a payment receipt/booking application for a media company with several branches in different locations. The application should be able to move data across the network/internet to a central database where the administrator/accountant in a different location will be able to see the result of the entire job for the day from each branch. Application will run on windows environment. Will be able to send result of the booking to a Point Of Sales printer for print output. Now, I'm confused about choosing the right programming language to accomplish this task. I'm between beginner/intermediate level in PHP, I know HTML/CSS and JavaScript. I have tried to do this in PHP but, I'm face with several challenges and I fear for the POS part since PHP application run on the web browser. I don't know if python will be best suited for this and how long will it take someone with my experience level to pick up python. Any suggestion will be highly appreciated.

• ubuntu 14.04 - everything fine except the shutdown

  i've installed ubuntu 14.04 on my old notebook (acer travelmate 2420). everything is fine except the shutdown. it's hanging in the last screen ("ubuntu" with the points beneath - they change their colour properly...as long as i don't press the "on/off" button of the notebook). i've changed this line: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash" into this: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash acpi=force" doesn't work. can anybody help? i'm a ubuntu beginner, so i maybe don't understand too specific things. thank you.

A lot of answers kept on popping up like to use box2d, libgdx, andEngine, etc. So the real question is, what would be the best to start off with as a beginner. I have some experience with java code, just by reading about in the Oracle Docs. I've gone through Flash and Eclipse. When i mean gone through, i don't mean i have actually created my own game from Flash or Eclipse, but i just learn things here and there. Currently I'm reading Beginning Android for Beginners but I don't have the knowledge to implement my own Ideas into the game tutorials because of lack of experience. I'm looking for a way to learn how to program to create games for Android. While at the same time get experience from programming. I do not want to learn those drag and drop game making applications such as GameMaker.

• How to improve battery life on a HP Pavilion dv6?

  I apologise if this question is too similar to the numerous others already asked, but I'm a beginner and I really need your help. So...I've installed Ubuntu 12.10 a few days ago and I have only been able to get up to one hour of battery life. When running Windows 7 I get up to 3-4 hours. My screen is ultra bright, even tough the screen brightness is set to the minimum (I installed xcalib to dim my screen, but it doesn't improve the battery life) I read about Jupiter and installed it, but it doesn't have a noticeable effect.   I have installed Ubuntu 64-bit alongside windows 7 32-bit. (Windows installed first.) The installation was successful, but when I restart it just goes directly to windows 7 without any sign of existence of Ubuntu. I'm a beginner who just wanted to get familiar with Ubuntu, but now I'm disappointed with it. Someone told me the not booting problem is related to EFI, but now I'm scared to play with this boot stuff because my information might be totally lost. How can I fix this boot problem and get to Ubuntu?

Every time I saw or read an interview session with any indie developer they mention about the amount of money they spend on developing a game. I want to know where exactly did they spend the money ? • 12.04 Login gone wrong

  I seem to have a fault in the login procedure somewhere. When I boooted up I found that if I selected Guest I could use the computer. If I selected my administrator account I was taken straight to the terminal. So I opened a guest session, went to user settings, and unlocked my admin account (it accepted the password!), and amended it to show "password None" and automatic login. I now find that when I boot up I am taken straight to the terminal - if I exit terminal I get the login screen - if I select the administrator login I go back to terminal - if i select guest I can use the PC, and if I select mu normal user account I can use the PC. So I cannot login as an administrator - so admin functions such as update are no longer accessible. Sorry to be so long winde but I am stuck. Can anyone suggest anything - I am a beginner with this

• Toshiba laptop overheats and switches off

  Since upgrading to 11.10 from 11.04 my laptop rapidly heats up and eventually turns off by itself (due to the intense heat I presume). This was not happening whilst running 11.04; I opted then to run gnome rather then unity, not sure if this makes a differences. Was hoping to solve this problem as it worries me that this continues to happen. if anyone can help me, or i need to provide more information on my system please provide step by step instructions on how to do this as I am still a beginner to the linux platform.

I'm building it from scratch, because I think that in this way I will learn the most. I have stumbled upon MVC's and CMS, CodeIgniter really got my attention, and the basic use is very straight forward. But I do not understand the inner workings completely. So I have decided that it might be better to just develop from scratch and maybe return to codeIgniter later, was that good decision? Would it be better to use CodeIgniter and learn from that?

  I was searching for a book to learn C#, but now i'm kinda stuck. I found many people asking the same question, and many people gave answers, but there are so many books about C# that it is really hard to decide which one to take. Now i reduced my choice on two books, but I just can't decide between them. Namely, there are: Programming C# 4.0 and C# 4.0 In A Nutshell The first thing I want to know, are these good choices? I'm not completely new to programming, but I just didn't find the right language until know, but i think C# is the one I was searching for. I know all the bassic stuff from Delphi/Java/Python so I think i'm not a complete beginner in programming. Is there anyone out there that read both books and can cleary explain whats the difference between them? I haven't found many reviews and sort of, so I just don't know which one to chose. Or is there any book that is better suiting me?
