  • NT Server: deleting files takes ages

    hi all, i'm running an NT Server - when trying to delete eg. just one file - it takes several minutes (!!) until the file gets deleted. i'm only getting the deleting-dialog but nothing happens. any ideas what could be wrong? thx

  • Low CPU usage but High fan speed

    The problem I am facing is the CPU fan rotates with high speed even though the CPU usage is very low, less than 10%. I even cleaned the Dust off the Fan, I replaced the Thermal Material on the Processor. Installed an Extra Fan. Nothing seems to Work. Please Help.

  • Which mouse for preventing carpal tunnel/RSI symptoms?

    I started getting carpal tunnel symptoms about a year back and have tried different mice/keyboards and nothing seems to help. When my right wrist (i am right handed) started giving me pain, I switched from a regular optical mouse to this logitech mouse: It helped for a short while. I then started to learn using my left hand to operate the mouse. Now, my left wrist has started experiencing the symptoms. Which mouse do you recommend that has really helped you?

  • CPU Lockup when loading folder of bookmarks in Firefox

    I am running Firefox 3.6 on WinXPSP3 on a duo Core machine with 4G of memory. I am also running Avast! free anti-virus and ZoneAlarm free firewall, both latest versions. Within the last month, my service provider basically forced me to upgrade to a Docsis 3.0 compliant modem (offered me a deal I couldn't turn down). At that point, I also upgraded to FF3.6. Basically, I am not unhappy with many aspects of this switchover, EXCEPT, when I now load a folder of bookmarks (anywhere from 10 to 38) I get nothing like the load times I experienced a couple of months back. It's taking minutes rather than seconds. And the first bookmark in one of the folders, GMail, rarely loads before timing out. I have used the old trick of powering off the cable modem before my day's work. This used to fix 'load-lag' in the old days. I have switched from my ISP's DNS server to Google, OpenDNS and back. And nothing seems to work currently. It's not my DNS cache. That's been flushed and secondary computers also have the same issue when loading folders. I have watched the CPU usage and loading the folder will send VSMon (ZoneAlarm) usage over 40 percent, AVastSvc (Avast!) over 30 and Firefox will then push the needle to 100. There's a brief burst by SVCHost when the others falter in devouring cycles. Then everything subsides to single digits once the last tab is loaded. The only other nominal nastiness is VSMon ALWAYS hitting 50 percent when ANY program starts downloading content from the internet. If I shutdown ZoneAlarm (and VSMon with it), the same slow loading takes place, but this time System is running 50% plus, again driving the usage to 100 per cent. I have my doubts FF3.6 vs FF3.5 is an issue, since the other computers are still running 3.5 and suffer the same issue. Those computers are on, but inactive, most of the time, being backups. Obviously, when the CPU hits 100, I can't do much of anything in FireFox OR in other programs. Video play through WMPC or VLC is extremely choppy, although it doesn't seem to affect the audio. Any ideas what I can try next? Thanks, GM

I am not the owner of the file, but file belongs to root:samba, and I am member of samba group, and file permissions are rwxrw-r-- There is message "Cannot move file to trash, do you want to delete immediately?". Nothing more. Why can't I move it to trash?

    For a very specific situation on a project, I need to make a Windows machine know about some specific settings at the BIOS(such as Enabled/Disabled PXE boot, Boot Sequence, Bios Version, and more....). I'm thinking in doing this with powershell, VBScript, or whatever(actually doesn't matter how, I just need to read these settings from Windows). I'm reseaching this and found nothing for now, there is a way(maybe a indirect one)?

  • Chrome in Linux Ubuntu stays in Full screen mode

    I've recently installed the latest version of Chrome for Linux on my Ubuntu 9.10 installation. The only problem is is that it stays in Full Screen mode no matter what I do. I pressed F11 but it does not want to return to normal mode. I even completely uninstalled it using synaptic package manager en re-downloaded it and still nothing. Any suggestions will be welcome.

    I've run into an issue with my KVM host which runs VMs on a LVM volume. As of last night the logical volumes are no longer seen as such (I can't create snapshots of them even though I have been for months now).     Hi, I'm trying to automatically mount a windows share in a Fedora 12 instance (FC12). When I manually mount things work: mount -t cifs //nas01/servers -o username=guest,password=myPassword /mnt/nas01/servers If I update /etc/fstab with the following: //nas01/servers /mnt/nas01/servers cifs username=guest,password=myPassword 0 0 Nothing happens after reboot. The thing that has me baffled is after a reboot if I run: mount -a The share is mounted. Any ideas on this? Thank you, Martin

  • Can't install "Docky" theme?

    So to install a theme for Docky on Ubuntu I had to extract the theme from the Archive Manager via root to /usr/local/share/docky/themes. I did this but it didn't show up in the theme choices. Then I tried just pressing the install button and locating it but I couldn't see the tar file. I then extracted the tar file to the desktop and tried selecting that to install but nothing. What am I doing wrong!?

But the same server settings is working for Google chrome and Internet Download Manager. How to do it ? Although I've tried many things : reinstall apache2 run update-rc.d apache2 enable But each time the apache2 is not start after boot time : I get nothing with a pgrep apache2 or a ps -e | grep apache2 UPDATE I've also tried the logging tweak suggested in another related post, but no entries at all can be found in /var/log/syslog What could I do to make it work ? Running the script from the terminal works (although I had to change its permissions first), but clicking on a mailto: link does nothing. Note: I am using the Chromium Daily Builds for my browser. I would mailto: links in all applications to point to gmail, not just the ones that I click on in my browser.
