  Oracle Master Data Management had a great showing at OOW 2012 ! Special thanks to our customers and partners for presenting with us, sharing their use cases and successes as well as co-sponsoring events.  Almost every session at the show featured a customer and the tremendous success or transformation Oracle MDM resulted in at their organization.  At the DemoGrounds, Oracle MDM saw tremendous interest with many individuals enquiring to see demos, and have their technical questions answered.  The demos provided a perfect opportunity to showcase technical enhancements as well as what features are on the horizon.The MDM customer appreciation dinner event was a smashing success as cusotmers and partners enjoyed a spectacular water view, fine dining and cocktails and one of San Francisco's finest restaurants - The Water Bar.  In a short while the planning for next year's OpenWorld will be under full swing and we can't wait to get started.  See you at OOW 2013!!

• Rendering of Oracle Secure Global Desktop's Administration Console on Modern Browser Versions

  For customers using Oracle Secure Global Desktop version 4.6x, one of the issues reported is the improper rendering of the administration console when using modern browser versions such as Safari 5, Firefox 4+ or Internet Explorer 9. We are pleased to provide a fix for use of these modern browser versions when using Oracle Secure Global Desktop 4.6x. Please refer to Doc ID 1367923.1 on My Oracle Support. The solution involves a new .jar file, oracletheme.jar and following a few simple instructions. Download the new oracletheme.jar to /tmp and backup the existing one located at  /opt/tarantella/webserver/tomcat/<tomcat_ver>/webapps/sgdadmin/WEB-INF/lib/oracletheme.jar Stop the webserver  /opt/tarantella/bin/tarantella stop webserver Copy the new oracletheme.jar to the correct directory cp /tmp/oracletheme.jar /opt/tarantella/webserver/tomcat/<tomcat_ver>/webapps/sgdadmin/WEB- INF/lib/oracletheme.jar Verify permissions for the file -rw-r----- 1 root ttaserv 280449 Sep 9 2010 oracletheme.jar Finally, restart the webserver /opt/tarantella/bin/tarantella start webserver

• Setting Up and Running Summary Advisor on an Exalytics Machine (Oracle-by-Example)

  If you are running Oracle BI on an Exalytics machine, you can use Summary Advisor to identify the aggregates that will increase query performance. Summary Advisor intelligently recommends an optimal list of aggregate tables based on query patterns that will achieve maximum query performance gain while meeting specific resource constraints. Summary Advisor then generates an aggregate creation script that can be run to create the recommended aggregate tables. Aggregate tables reduce query times by storing precomputed results for queries that include rolled-up data. This tutorial covers steps to set up, configure, and run Summary Advisor on an Exalytics machine using TimesTen database as a target for storing aggregates. You can find the Oracle By Example (OBE) in the Oracle Learning Library (OLL). The content in OLL is available to all customers, partners, and employees.

• Intel Rapid Storage Technology (pre-OS) driver installation

  My desktop machine is built on Gigabyte GA-Z87-UD3H and Gigabyte provides the latest driver for Intel Rapid Storage Technology (IRST), which I installed after installing the OS. Same goes for my Lenovo Thinkpad-T420. And for both machine, checking the controller device under the IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers section in Device Manager I see the driver has been updated to the latest version. I set the SATA controller to AHCI from BIOS On the desktop machine I have one WD 2TB BLACK & one WD 3TB Green I don’t use RAID, & no chance of using in near future, but according to Intel IRST improves performance in single disk scenario too. Now I have the following questions – What is the actual purpose of IRST (pre-OS install) driver that doesn’t get served with a post-OS driver that I installed? There must be some difference, otherwise there wouldn’t be a pre-OS version of the driver. Right? In the pre-OS procedure (loading the drivers at OS-installation time) after successfully completing the OS installation, do I need that post-OS driver? Because after installing from that one I got a quick launch icon that runs the IRST configuration application. Where do get that after installing the pre-OS driver? As it is “pre-OS”, when I load it at OS-installation time, does it updates anything at BIOS level or anywhere other than HDD? That’s because I’m going to dual boot Windows 7 with Windows 8.1, and after installing Windows 7 when I install Windows 8.1 & load the IRST driver for that, is there any chance of any “overwriting” or OS-incompatibility? In short, is there anything specific to follow while installing the second OS?

• Security and data backup for Ubuntu usb installation

  Due to encryption on my corporate laptop I opted to install Ubuntu 9.10 on a flash drive and just use it as my hard drive. I tried the vmware but it crashed my xp a couple of times. Now I have a couple of concerns since I am totally new to Ubuntu and Linux. First, would it be possible for me to transfer my installation to a new usb drive? I now have a 4gb and it may get filled up soon, I don't seem to be able to see my actual files when I browse the usb drive. I also tried copying all files from this usb to another and boot from it but that failed. Second, whenever the system boots up I am never prompted for a password, it is always the username ubuntu. Which I guess means if I lose my usb drive my data is open wide. Is there a way to secure it or to use users and groups as on a regular hard drive installation? As a background, I created this by going into a working Ubuntu installation, System - Administration - USB Starter Disk Creator (was that the right way to start with?) Thanks!

• Re-configure Office 2007 installation unattended: Advertised components --> Local

  On our Citrix farm, I just found out that some sub-components are "Installed on 1st Use" (Advertised), which does play well on terminal servers. Not only that, but you also get a rather non-descriptive error message, when a document tried to use a component, which is "Installed on 1st Use" (described on Plan to deploy Office 2010 in a Remote Desktop Services environment): Microsoft Office cannot run this add-in. An error occurred and this feature is no longer functioning correctly. Please contact your system administrator. I have ~50 Citrix servers where I need to change the installation state of all Advertised components to Local, so I created an XML file like this: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <Configuration Product="ProPlus"> <Display Level="none" CompletionNotice="no" SuppressModal="yes" AcceptEula="yes" /> <Logging Type="standard" Path="C:\InstallLogs" Template="MS Office 2007 Install on 1st Use(*).log" /> <Option Id="AccessWizards" State="Local" /> <Option Id="DeveloperWizards" State="Local" /> <Setting Id="Reboot" Value="NEVER" /> </Configuration> I run it with a command like this (using the appropriate paths): "[..]\setup.exe" /config ProPlus /config "[..]\Install1stUse-to-Forced.xml" According to the log file, the syntax appears to be accepted and the config file parsed: Parsing command line. Config XML file specified: [..]\Install1stUse-to-Forced.xml Modify requested for product: PROPLUS Parsing config.xml at: [..]\Install1stUse-to-Forced.xml Preferred product specified in config.xml to be: PROPLUS But the "Final Option Tree" still reads: Final Option Tree: AlwaysInstalled:local Gimme_OnDemandData:local ProductFiles:local VSCommonPIAHidden:local dummy_MSCOMCTL_PIA:local dummy_Office_PIA:local ACCESSFiles:local ... AccessWizards:advertised DeveloperWizards:advertised ... And the components remain "Advertised". Just to see if the installation state is overridden in another XML file, I ran: findstr /l /s /i "AccessWizards" *.xml Against both my installation source and "%ProgramFiles%\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\OFFICE12\Office Setup Controller", but just found DefaultState to be "Local". What am I doing wrong? Thanks!

• Windows installation repair option not showing up

  I'm trying to repair an existing Windows XP installation. Following the instructions from http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/helpandsupport/learnmore/tips/doug92.mspx this should work: - 1.When the Press any key to boot from CD message is displayed on your screen, press a key to start your computer from the Windows XP CD. - 2.Press ENTER when you see the message To setup Windows XP now, and then press ENTER displayed on the Welcome to Setup screen. - 3.Do not choose the option to press R to use the Recovery Console. - 4.In the Windows XP Licensing Agreement, press F8 to agree to the license agreement. - 5.Make sure that your current installation of Windows XP is selected in the box, and then press R to repair Windows XP. - 6.Follow the instructions on the screen to complete Setup. On step 5 pressing R does nothing and there is nothing on the screen saying it would. When I just select to install I get a message that a previous installation is there and proceeding will destroy it and installed applications, I can optionally select a directory other than c:/windows, and I can optionally format before continuing. I had tried to go from SP2-SP3. It failed, and then I couldn't get to Safe Mode. I put the SP1 disk back in to do a repair, and I don't see that option. (I don't have an SP2 boot/install disk, I just have the non-boot upgrade package.)

• Installation of SAP Web Application Server 6.20 fails

  I tried installing a trial version of SAP NetWeaver 7.1 on Windows Vista on my laptop but I couldn't succeed. Then I tried installing SAP Web Application Server 6.20. The installation goes all the way to 91%, at which point I get some errors and the installation stops. Does anyone have any experience with this?   Im trying to install oracle 10g on to OS X Lion, I have previous achieved this on snow leopard with the following http://blog.rayapps.com/2009/09/14/how-to-install-oracle-database-10g-on-mac-os-x-snow-leopard/ The issue im having is that the ulimit settings in the oracle/.bash_profile cannot be modified. I have the following in the bash_profile: export DISPLAY=:0.0 export ORACLE_BASE=$HOME umask 022 # must match `sysctl kern.maxprocperuid` ulimit -Hu 512 ulimit -Su 512 # must match `sysctl kern.maxfilesperproc` ulimit -Hn 10240 ulimit -Sn 10240 Upon applying the bash_profile settings . ~/.bash_profile i get the following error: -bash: ulimit: max user processes: cannot be modify limit: Invalid argument This then results in $ sqlplus / as sysdba not functioning correctly with a Segmentation fault: 11 The output of $ ulimit -a core file size (blocks, -c) 0 data seg size (kbytes, -d) unlimited file size (blocks, -f) unlimited max locked memory (kbytes, -l) unlimited max memory size (kbytes, -m) unlimited open files (-n) 10240 pipe size (512 bytes, -p) 1 stack size (kbytes, -s) 8192 cpu time (seconds, -t) unlimited max user processes (-u) 512 virtual memory (kbytes, -v) unlimited If any one knows how I can apply these ulimit settings to the oracle user I have created to allow me to install sqlplus and therefore create a db, that would be great.
