• Automatically connect to 3G dialup connection

  I have a notebook with an internal 3G modem (a HUAWEI Mobile Connect) which appears to the system as a dialup modem. When I want to connect to the Internet, I need to open the charms bar, click settings, network, the modem and "connect" to open the dialup dialog on the desktop. When the connection is interrupted for some reason, I need to repeat these steps. Is there a way to configure Windows 8 to automatically (and preferably silently in the background) connect with this modem at system startup and automatically restore the connection should it get interrupted? As an operating system which is developed for mobile devices, I would expect it to be able to somehow be able to manage a always-on 3g connection.

  I have a program running on a server that accepts TCP/IP connections on a specified port. When a connection is made, this program waits for the user (i.e. me) to send a string which identifies the type of user. Once the user identifies themselves, the program will start sending data that is relevant to that user type. I want to automate the first step and have putty automatically send the user identification string once the connection is made. I've been through the settings, and can't seem to find anything like "send following commands on connection". Any help would be appreciated.

Current configuration is IIS machine plus SQL Server machine, and they are connected by a 1gb LAN connection. With this configuration our web application is slower than before. Max bandwidth is 1-2% of network, about 15mbps. When we use another threads to the same SQL Server from the same IIS machine, network use is higher. So this is no problem with SQL Server. Ho we can make higher bandwidth for this SQL connection? TCP resends packets again and again, retrying with increasing delays. I see the problem and plug the cable back (or restore network somehow). TCP connection finally successfully resends some packet and continues. The problem is that I need to wait for a some timeout on point 5. I want to use my opened SSH session now and not wait for 5-10 seconds until it finds out that connection is working again. How to force all TCP connections to resend data without delays in GNU/Linux?

• Can not connect remotely to MySQL Server on Ubuntu 10.10

  Ok I have searched google for two days trying to get this to work. Here are the steps I have taken so far: Clean install of Ubuntu 10.10 Install mysql 5.1 as well as admin Comment out the bind address in the config file Create a new database Create a new user that is username@% to allow remote connections Grant all access to this user to the new database EXCEPT the grant option Login on the server is ok using this new user and database on the localhost Login on the server is ok using this new user and database on the server internal network ip Login from a remote computer is ok using this new user and database using the internal network ip Login is not working when logging in with this username and database using the external ip address from the server or the remote computer. I have port forwarding enabled for this port and it is viewable from outside as confirmed by canyouseeme.org I have nmap'd using the following command on the internal ip and get the below result: nmap -PN -p 3306 192.168.1.73 Starting Nmap 5.21 ( http://nmap.org ) at 2011-02-19 13:41 PST Nmap scan report for computername-System-Name (192.168.1.73) Host is up (0.00064s latency). • Monitoring/logging a malfunctioning internet connection

  I have a mysterious internet connection problem: Every 15-20 minutes, the connection will become very slow, and take 2-3 minutes for anything to load. I've had a technician from the ISP over here to test the hardware, and everything is in pristine condition. They have no other explanation than a configuration error on my machine, a possibility I can exclude 90% because I'm experiencing the same problems with another machine. I will have to monitor the situation now, and I would like to run a program that logs when internet connections become slow. I thought about putting something together using at and wget. Does anybody know of some other tool for this that does this out of the box - maybe something with an adjustable request frequency, logging connection speeds etc.?

• I Cannot connect to remote MySQL database using SSH tunnel

  Brand new server, brand new MySQL 5.5 install on Ubuntu 12.04. I can log in to the database as root from the command line. I can log on via Navicat MySQL or Sequel Pro as root on port 3306 from my Mac. I cannot log in using an SSH tunnel to the server and then to the database as root. I have tried both localhost and 127.0.0.1 as server for the local connection part. My password is fine. root is currently defined at %, 127.0.0.1, and localhost. I have set up this same type of connection at least 30 times before and never had a problem. The SSH connection gets made with no problem, and then it just hangs trying to connect to the DB and finally times out. The only thing I changed in my.cnf was to comment out the bind-address = 127.0.0.1 line. Any help? Any Ideas?

  netstat -ntp |grep 80 shows too many ESTABLISHED connection from single IP address. Around 300 of them and it is not an attack and user is using a 2G connection to access Apache. This is the case with other 2G connections also. As a result of this Apache is running out of children. Earlier it was showing too many close_wait and after enabling tcp_tw_reuse and tcp_tw-recycle there is not much close_wait but the number of ESTABLISHED connections increased. We are using Ubuntu 11.04 having 48 GB ram keepalive On keepalive timeout 10 max clients 800 max-request-perchild 4000 timeout 300 I have set syn_ack to 1 and syn_retries to 2. On wifi there is no such issue. Connections are closing properly, but with 2G connections Apache is running out of children and too many ESTABLISHED connection. also i have tried setting timeout from default 300 to 30,but since our project is image hosting for mobile phones,clients couldn't upload images properly as they are getting frequent time out.Also there were a lot of 408 messages so changed it to the default 300

  Hey guys I use Clear internet ie wireless to get my connection. I play a game online Eve Online which has had on and off CTD(crash to desktop) due to the connection timing out. Usually I have trouble only late at night after work but today I had no connection at 4 pm. They ran a trace route and Im using Ping plotter to do a trace in real time. I have 100% packet loss at hop 2 and Im getting varible loss at hop 6 at ae-72-70.ebr2.Dallas1.Level3.net Also had windows send a dump to Microsoft mentioning the eve file has a problem requiring it to close. Any thoughts ? TIA!

  When i set up a regular connection, it works, however when i try to use nhibernate, hibernate.cfg.xml, i m getting the following error. • Windows XP periodically disconnects, reconnects; Windows 7 doesn't

  My setup: I have a PC with a Gigabyte GA-MA78S2H motherboard (Realtek Gigabit wired Ethernet on-board). I have the latest drivers (at least the latest driver for the NIC. I'm connecting via an Edimax BR-6216Mg (again, wired connection). For some reason I experience short periodic disconnects and reconnects. Specifically, Skype disconnects, tries to connect, succeeds after a short while; incoming SFTP sessions get dropped; using a browser, I sometime get stuck in the DNS lookup or connection to the website and a page won't load. A couple of seconds later, a reload works. All this happens with Windows XP SP3. With Windows 7, it doesn't happen. The connection is smooth (OS is sluggish though, but never mind that). Like I said, I updated the NIC driver. I tried reducing the MTU (used something called Dr. TCP), thinking maybe that would help, but it didn't. (I'm a bit but not super-knowledgeable about TCP parameters.) • Multiple Users use Script to Access Remote Server via Passwordless SSH

  I am currently setting up a linux box that is tied into Active Directory. This box will allow users to SSH into it with their AD username and password to gather information (Box A). The issue is I am trying to create a function in /etc/bash.bashrc so the users has to do is type "get_info" for example, the function will SSH into a remote machine (Box B) run a command and output the information back to the user. The issue with this is, I have generated a rsa key on Box A, added it to the Box B authorized_keys and it works fine. The issue I am running into is, how do I set this up one time for the current users and any new user who logs into Box A. Is there a better approach than what I am currently doing. Essentially I just need to connect to the remote box, run a command, output the information back to the user and that is it. How can I allow new users to connect via a script to the remote box without having to generate RSA keys for them. The get_info fuction will be supplied a value 'get_info 012345' and returns the results.

  I am trying to get what I thought was an easy process working. Here is my situation. I have a remote linux server (running Debian) that I would like to turn into a VM so that I can do testing on it rather than the production server. I downloaded VMWare Converter. I went to the "convert machine" wizard, chose Powered-on machine, entered my remote machine details. Clicking next shows that it correctly connects to my remote linux box. Now, on the next screen, for Destination type, it enters "WMWare Infrastructure virtual machine", and I can't change this. This is where I am stuck. Why do I need another sever to convert with? Is this where my VM gets sent to? And why can't I just convert the VM and save it on the computer that I am running the converter program on? If I do have to use a vmware infrastructure destination, I am confused at what ESX is, why and how I use it. Any help with this process would be more than appreciated!

  I am having an issue running a Batch file on a remote machine suing PSEXEC. The file runs but does not run like it does when run through remote desktop. The batch runs a file which is a 32 bit application, which opens multiple 16bit applications, this should all run under one ntvdm.exe (In one Memory Space). Through remote desktop the batch file runs under the explorer process, and works correctly opening only one ntvdm.exe. Using PSEXEC the batch runs but not under the explorer process, a separate ntvdm.exe is open for each process. I found running the batch from explorer in PSEXEC works, but comes up with a "File Download - Security Warning" eg. psexec.exe" \compname -u username -p passowrd -s -d -i 0 explorer C:\Program.bat I want to be able to run the batch successfully without receiving warnings, it is a local warning and not a network share warning. Possible to recreate warning typing "explorer C:\windows\system32\cmd.exe" in Run I would like to know if anyone knows of a way to get PSEXEC to open the batch file to run as though it was started by explorer. Or a way of removing the local "File Download - Security Warning" Thanks

• sql developer cannot establish connection to oracle db with listener running

  I am working from home and connected to my work's vpn. I have tried to connect to the work db with sql developer (the latest version and the previous version) on the following environments: mac os x 10.8.5 (with sql developer launched and installed directly on the iMac. sql developer launched and installed directly on a vm on same computer (guest Ubuntu 12.04 LTS) sql developer launched and installed directly on a vm on same computer (guest Windows 7.0 Professional) I get Status Failure Test Failed : IO Error - The Network Adapter could not establish the connection. I have read dba forums and googled and the most common suggestion is that the oracle listener is not up and running. I can conclusively say this is not the case because I have the option of using remote desktop and accessing the oracle db in question on my work computer. If the listener was down, according to my DBA, no one would be able to connect. My sysadmin and dba are stumped so I assume it is something unique to my home system. The reason I do not want to continue with the remote desktop workaround is because remote desktop has an annoying (infuriating often) lag.

  After an Active Directory fail RDP connection started to ask for credentials twice (once on local RDP program, second time on remote's logon screen) I already looked at Windows 2008 R2 RDS - Double Login Solution provided there doesn't work for me. The server is alone, without AD/DNS services, RDP service isn't installed I tried every security settings on RDP-Tcp (RDP, Negotiate, SLL) Logon option is set to "Use credentials from the client" Both windows client and server use RDP 7.1 fPromptForPassword regitries are set to 0 Local Computer Policy\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Remote Desktop Services\Remote Desktop Session Host\Security\Always prompt for password upon connection is set to "Disabled" Why i am sure the problem comes from the server and not the client ? This problem affected a 3rd RDP program on Android too (it was directly showing "preparing desktop previously, on both MS RDP and the 3rd program) No bakcup are available (Else the Active Directory wouldn't be a fail, but just a lose of time) I am wondering if a rule linked to RDP got changed after the AD install+unistall, but i'm unable to find where. While this is not a critic problem, this is very annoying. I don't know if more information are needed, if it's the case and if you are patient enough, please tell me what is missing and i'll edit this post to add the missing informations.

• Weird .#filename files on remote ssh-connected systems after mcedit

  I'm using MacFusion sshfs in combination with Midnight Commander, and when I edit remote text files with mcedit, weird symlinks are created on the remote system. $ ls -l .* lrwxr-xr-x 1 user group 34 Jun 27 01:54 .#filename.txt -> [email protected] where etranger is my local login name, and mbp is a hostname of my notebook running MacOS. symlinks can be removed by running remote rm command, but cannot be deleted on the mac-fuse mounted volume and thus pollutes the filesystem. I cannot figure what part of software is responsible for this, and how I could fix this, any help is appreciated. EDIT: This appears to be mcedit behavior as documented here: https://dev.openwrt.org/ticket/8245 Apparently, sshfs fails to remove symlink to the lock file for some reason (".#" in filename, perhaps), and it pollutes the filesystem. A quick workaround is possible, using another bug of Midnight Commander: editing (F4) the broken symlink effectively converts it to a missing lock file it was supposed to point to, and removes the symlink itself. The newly created file may then be deleted normally. EDIT 2: Unchecking "Follow symlink" in MacFusion apparently allows sshfs to remove dead symlinks, so the problem disappears completely.

• Rsyslog stops sending data to remote server after log rotation

  In my configuration, I have rsyslog who is in charge of following changes of /home/user/my_app/shared/log/unicorn.stderr.log using imfile. The content is sent to another remote logging server using TCP. When the log file rotates, rsyslog stops sending data to the remote server. I tried reloading rsyslog, sending a HUP signal and restarting it altogether, but nothing worked. The only ways I could find that actually worked were dirty: stop the service, delete the rsyslog stat files and start rsyslog again. All that in a postrotate hook in my logrotate file. kill -9 rsyslog and start it over. Is there a proper way for me to do this without touching rsyslog internals?   I need to set up a "dial in" connection to a Windows 7 (Ultimate) computer via a serial null-modem cable to be able to connect from a Windows XP client to that computer and exchange data over IP. Question 1: How do I do that? I did neither find the information via Google nor in the MSDN. Seems like no one tried ever before... ;-) I already managed to install a legacy modem device called "Communications cable between two computers" and found the menu entry "New Incoming Connection..." in Network and Internet Network Connections. When I finish this wizard I get the message that the "Routing and Remote Access service" cannot be started. In the event viewer I see the following error messages: "The currently configured authentication provider failed to load and initialize successfully. The requested name is valid, but no data of the requested type was found." (Source: RemoteAccess, EventID: 20152) "The Routing and Remote Access service terminated with service-specific error The requested name is valid, but no data of the requested type was found." (Source: Service Control Manager, EventID: 7024) The Windows 7 installation is "naked", i.e. no additional software or services are installed. Question 2: Am I on the right path to set up the connection? Question 3: How can I get the Routing and Remote Access service running?
