• Unable to add Solution to TFS 2010 due to existing (invisible)binding

  I have a smallish utility library I made that I had created in TFS Beta 2 to test out TFS. I now have TFS rc1 installed(and Beta 2 uninstalled) and am trying to add my Solution to TFS. I get an error saying that it is already bound to my old TFS, which was on a different system then this one. Strangely, when I go into Source Control and look at the bindings it says there aren't any. Also, I manually deleted the .vss and .vsc files and it still does it. Ideas? I looked through the numerous other SO topics related to this but unless I missed one none of them are dealing with my issue. Ideas?

• Ethics of assisting other programmers, where do we draw the line?

  In general, not just in relation to stackoverflow, sometimes I'm asked a programming question for which the answer will probably be used for good purposes, but there is a chance that it could not be. Two recent examples which reminded me of some real world questions I've been asked are: Send email to many users, and keep a formless application from closing for a keyboard hook Though I don't believe the intent of the authors of those questions is in any way nefarious, occasionally someone does ask such a question for purposes of aiding a spamming effort, or creating a keylogger. Even though the questioner and answerers had good intent, a 3rd party could pervert those answers to create a piece of malware or a spam utility. Should we always trust the questioner to use the answer for good? Should we feel obligated to ask the purpose of a question, and how the answer will be used? And how can we prevent answers from being overheard (when asked verbally) or being referenced (when posted publicly online) and then used for unsavory purposes?

• How to search SVN repository for a file when I'm not sure where I put it?

  Co-worker is sure he checked in a file: foo_oustanding.dpr but isn't sure when/where (we have lots of "tools" and "utility" ancillary branches, lots of project branches, etc.. I need a way to search the entire repository for this file. I could check the whole source tree out to my HD, but that would take several hours. Is there a faster way? I tried the Repo Browser (Tortoise) and it didn't seem to have a search. I also thought about dumping the log, from the beginning of time. But that seemed silly. I have, at my disposal: Tortoise SVN 1.6 Subversion 1.5.6 running on Apache It runs on a Windows 2003 server. Remote Desktop access to the server, with admin rights. Thanks for any ideas.

• How do I structure a GWT project?

  Hello, I have followed the basic GWT tutorial for creating a project in Eclipse. Now, I am trying to build off what I learned in the tutorial. I created a static utility class to perform some database connection logic. However, when I try to compile I get: [ERROR] Line 46: No source code is available for type com.sample.server.ConnectionUtil; did you forget to inherit a required module? Where can I put simple classes that I've created on my own? Do they have to be outside the package structure of the basic module, 'com.sample'? Or do I have to specify a whole new module in the gwt.xml file and inherit from that? There has to be something simple I'm missing.

  What is the best way (or options) for accessing spring components at layers deep within the application that aren't managed by spring? For example, I have a low level utility POJO class into which I need to autowire/inject a spring component. I'll call it LowLevelHelper. There are multiple classes that use LowLevelHelper - most are layers away from anything that is hooked up with spring. One option would be to make all the layers in to spring components, but that seems like I'm hacking my design to force spring to help me. I have some complex things going on that won't be nearly as clean if I have to @Autowire all the pieces and don't new anything. Another option might be to manually inject the component in the low level class, but I'm not really sure if this is possible or the right solution.

• Get data types from arbitrary sql statement in SQL Server 2008

  Given some arbitrary SQL I would like to get the data types of the returned columns. The statement might join many tables, views, TVFs, etc. I know I could create a view based on the query and get the datatypes from that, hoping there's a quicker way. Only think I've been able to think of is writing a .net utility to run the SQL and examine the results, wondering if there is a TSQL answer. i.e. Given (not real tables just an example) SELECT p.Name AS PersonName, p.Age, a.Account as AccountName FROM Person as p LEFT JOIN Account as a ON p.Id = a.OwnerId I would like to have something like PersonName: (nvarchar(255), not null) Age: (smallInt, not null) etc...

• Windows 7: Loop through Taskbar items

  Hi, I'm trying to build a small utility for myself only to hide labels of running programs with windows visible in the taskbar where the label holds no information (for example "iTunes", "Microsoft SQL Server Mngmt Studio", "~cmd.exe") but keep windows like Windows Explorer and Visual Studio and MSN ungroupped, with labels (to know which folders you are currently listing, which projects are open, and who are you chatting with by name). I'm trying to loop through all windows in the taskbar on windows 7, but without any luck. I found some samples for XP's taskbar reorders, they no longer usable. I've checked the samples in WindowsAPICodePack for Windows 7 Taskbar manipulation, but it only lets me access my processes' windows.

• Can I force Perl Devel::Cover to generate a coverage report if I killed the build testcover process

  If I am able to start up Devel::Cover successfully and it starts to collect data in the cover_db directory, can I then kill the process and then after the fact get Devel::Cover or some other utility to process those binary Devel::Cover run files and structure files into the HTML coverage report? To ask the question another way ... Can I use Devel::Cover to get a coverage report for a process that I am unable to stop, other than by killing the process? • AbsoluteTime with numeric argument behaves strangely.

  This is strange: DateList@AbsoluteTime[596523] returns {2078, 7, 2, 2, 42, 9.7849} But DateList@AbsoluteTime[596524] returns {1942, 5, 26, 20, 28, 39.5596} The question: What's going on? Note that AbsoluteTime with a numeric argument is undocumented. (I think I now know what it's doing but figured this is useful to have as a StackOverflow question for future reference; and I'm curious if there's some reason for that magic 596523 number.) • Formula for producing a CGRect for a UIScrollView, that displays a UIImage in scaled to fit way

  Hi I am loading in images with varying sizes and putting them in UIScrollViews, all the images are larger than the UIScrollView. The user can scroll and zoom as they please, but initially I would like for the image to be centered and scaled so the largest side of the image aligns with the edge of the scrollView, i.e. if the picture is in landscape I would like to size and scale it so that the left and right side goes all the way to the edge of the UIScrollVIew and vice versa I found a formula in a utility function in the Programming guide but it does not quite fit my needs. My approach is to use: CGrect initialPos = ? [self.scrollView zoomToRect:initialPos animated:YES]; I know the size of my scrollView and the size of my image, what I need to figure out is the scale and CGRect to apply to the scrollView to center and size my image. Now, the script would install an application on Machine_B from Machine_A, it works fine as long as you have the msi file on the local drive of the Target machine (Machine_B, in this case).   What are the key uses of a Static Generic Class in C#? When should they be used? What examples best illustrate their usage? e.g. public static class Example<T> { public static ... } Since you can't define extension methods in them they appear to be somewhat limited in their utility. • Memory leak while using emoticons on CRichEditCtrl

  I'm developing a text editor class (for a chat application) based on CRichEditCtrl (MFC) with emoticon support. After i load the emoticon's bitmap, I use the function OleCreateStaticFromData to insert it into CRichEditCtrl. After that i just delete the bitmap object allocated by myself. I can verify (using a GDIView utility) that all resources i allocate have been properly released. This works perfectly: the bitmap (emoticon) is drawn on the CRichEditCtrl window and is handled just like a character. My problem is that I don't know how to deallocate the memory (internal) allocated by OleCreateStaticFromData to manage the bitmap (emoticon). The memory allocated for any emoticon used is never released, even if i delete the CRichEditCtrl object. I'd like to know how to fix that issue. Is that a MFC's issue or i'm doing something wrong ? • Is ORM (Linq, Hibernate...) really that useful?

  I have been playing with some LINQ ORM (LINQ directly to SQL) and I have to admit I like its expressive powers . For small utility-like apps, It also works quite fast: dropping a SQL server on some surface and you're set to linq away. For larger apps however, the DAL never was that big of an issue to me to setup, nor maintain, and more often than not, once it was set, all the programming was not happening there anyway... My, honest - I am an ORM newbie - question : what is the big advantage of ORM over writing a decent DAL by hand? • Removing WS_BORDER and WS_CAPTION from windows styles doesn't work

  Hello, I created a small app in C# that removes border and caption from window, then it sets size to the user's resolution and centers it. It's a utility for me to use when I want to play games in windowed mode without being annoyed by the borders. Everything works fine with most games, but I tried to use it on a recently released game Alpha Protocol and it doesn't work. I could almost say that the game reverts my changes, but I'm not sure how to tell if that's true or not. I'm using imported API functions MoveWindow, SetWindowLong and SetWindowPos. • Using a CMYK PSD without Photoshop

  I have run into a common, yet difficult problem. I do not use Photoshop for image manipulation. Since all my work is web-based, GIMP does what I need in 99% of the situations. The problem is that I occasionally receive PSD files with CMYK encoding rather than RGB encoding. These files will not open in GIMP, nor will they convert in ImageMagick. Has anyone found a good solution for converting CMYK files to RGB files (either PSD format or a flat format like PNG) that does not involve the use of Photoshop? Say a plug-in for GIMP or a standalone utility?

• How do I mount my Android phone's filesystem on MacOS X? [closed]

  I'm running a fully rooted Nexus One with Android 2.1. I can see /data/data in DDMS, both the plugin and the tool -- but when I attach my phone, I still can't see the main drive. All I can see is the SD card. Using OSX, when I use Disk Utility, I can see the machine then see the SD Card. Is the problem that none of the tools I am using, except DDMS and ADB shell, know how to read that main Android drive? It's the same format as the qemu img, right? Again -- my goal is to mount the phone's root filesystem on my MacOS X host when connected via USB.

• Lines-of-code counting for many C# solutions

  I am currently researching a solution for counting lines of code in C#. I pretty much need a combination of the following two tools: http://richnewman.wordpress.com/2007/07/01/c-and-vbnet-line-count-utility/ http://www.locmetrics.com/index.html My problem is that I need to recursively scan a folder containing a lot of visual studio solutions. So can't really use the first tool without any major work on its code, as it's only able to scan a single solution at a time. But I also need to split the results for each solution, preferably even the contained projects. This disqualifies the second tool I found. I also found NDepend which suffers from the same problem. Do you know of any free tools that do what I need? I am unable to find anything suitable.

Windows Server 2003 has been built to test the application. The database has been scripted across using MS SQL Server GUI. ASP.Net application services tables were created using an utility. The connection strings are stored in the web.config and connectionStrings.config. The application connects to the database successfully, but then it times out after 10 seconds.

• Preferred Method Of Application Purchase

  This is more of a "programmers" question, but felt that it was technical enough to belong on Stack Overflow instead. I'm launching an application soon that will follow the shareware model of purchase. I've thought about implementing this in a few ways: Limited access to the application until they purchase Full access to the application but expires after 30 day, requiring them to purchase to retain utility. Full access to the application indefinitely, but with a 10-15 second pop-up box on start-up asking them to register -- like mIRC does (or used to do). The method of authentication will be web-based. I'll provide them with an authentication key and they'll put it in the application. Whenever the application boots up, it'll check my web service and determine whether the application is genuine or not. This isn't my question. My question is: Is there a preferred method of implementation? I'd like to piss off the users as little as possible, but I'd also like to get paid for my work.

• Noob Droid Question regarding random number

  Brand new to droid programming, but would love to learn as much as possible, so I finally got my emulator working correctly, I even got a hello world button to work, I'm attempting to make this button display a random number, I've googled this and came up with this code: Random generator = new Random(); int n = generator.nextInt(n); I fixed the Random function by including some Random java utility. I'm assuming this code above goes in the .java file of the project, so my button code looks as follows (tested and works): PopUpText.makeText(v.getContext(), "Hello World", PopUpText.LENGTH_LONG).show(); I figured I could replace "Hello World" with n to display the number in the box, however the following error is stopping the compile: The local variable n may not have been initialized Any ideas why this is happening? Any advice would be hugely appreciated.

  I need to connect to an Ingres supplied demodb through OpenAPI, both Ingres and C application running on windows. What i have done: Created a "node" in the Ingres Network Utility named "usernode". created user accounts in the Ingres installation (named "user" password "user") and in the Windows user management (the same creds.) Granted necessary privileges to the user in the database. In C code i have called IIapi_connect() function with an IIAPI_CONNPARM structure. Used members: co_target = "usernode::demodb", co_username = "user", co_password = "user" But IIapi_connect() call returns an error: "User provided a vnode as part of the database name (vnode::dbname), but connection information for that vnode is missing. Enter connection information for the vnode using NETUTIL." Anybody knows something that is a weird concept "node"? What are the minimum steps (in the database administration and the function parameters passing) necessary for the successful connect?

• How to reliably measure available memory in Linux?

  Linux /proc/meminfo shows a number of memory usage statistics. MemTotal: 4040732 kB MemFree: 23160 kB Buffers: 163340 kB Cached: 3707080 kB SwapCached: 0 kB Active: 1129324 kB Inactive: 2762912 kB There is quite a bit of overlap between them. For example, as far as I understand, there can be active page cache (belongs to "cached" and "active") and inactive page cache ("inactive" + "cached"). What I want to do is to measure "free" memory, but in a way that it includes used pages that are likely to be dropped without a significant impact on overall system's performance. At first, I was inclined to use "free" + "inactive", but Linux's "free" utility uses "free" + "cached" in its "buffer-adjusted" display, so I am curious what a better approach is. When the kernel runs out of memory, what is the priority of pages to drop and what is the more appropriate metric to measure available memory?
