• RabbitVCS suddenly stopped working in Nautilus with Ubuntu 11.04

  A while ago I installed RabbitVCS on Ubuntu 11.04. It then all worked pretty well, but since a few weeks (maybe even more than a month) RabbitVCS suddenly disappeared from the Nautilus context menu. I visited this page: http://wiki.rabbitvcs.org/wiki/support/known-issues and saw some points I could try, but none of them worked out to a working version again. Also this issue Rabbit VCS stopped working after upgrade to 11.10 does not describe the solution for me, so I think it might be something else. I have also tried to reinstall RabbitVCS again from the PPA which was recently updated according to this topic, but no luck. I am still on 11.04 (as I don't like the way Ubuntu is going in newer versions at all) and my Nautilus version is 2.32.2.1 . Is there someone who can help with this one?

Pex and Moles are also available for academic and non-commercial use." I note with interest that it is now available to MSDN subscribers. If I recall correctly it used to be only available to VS Team versions.

• Even More Steroids for JEditorPane

  Got some help from Ralph today and now the JEditorPane is as I want it, e.g., code folds are now supported once you click in the JEditorPane, though there are still some side effects, since this is not how anyone anticipated NetBeans editor APIs being used. But, so far, the side effects (e.g., now the hyperlinks work, but they open a new JavaScript file when you click on one of them, instead of jumping within the JEditorPane itself) are not so terrible. Error checking is also done now, which wasn't there before, i.e., red underlines and error annotations in the right margin. And maybe it's my imagination, but the editor feels a lot snappier, e.g., in code completion, than before. • /etc/profile not being sourced

  For 11.04, I did a fresh install of my system. Part of that install was to install rvm, which sticks a rvm.sh in /etc/profile.d/. This doesn't work as /etc/profile (which loads each +r in /etc/profile.d/*.sh) is not being loaded. According to the documentation, the profile is only sourced if bash is run in login. To verify this, I invoked bash --login, after which rvm was available. This has worked for me in previous versions of Ubuntu without any configuration. That is, a fresh install of 10.10 will correctly source profile/.d. My question is: is there anything I'm doing wrong, or are there some new assumptions being made in Natty that have broken this? My current workaround is to source /etc/profile in ~/.bashrc (which is awful as profile is meant to load before bashrc's, but does the trick).

• Best way to redirect users back to the pretty URL who land on the _escaped_fragment_ one?

  I am working on an AJAX site and have successfully implemented Google's AJAX recommendation by creating _escape_fragment_ versions of each page for it to index. Thus each page has 2 URLs: pretty: example.com#!blog ugly: example.com?_escaped_fragment_=blog However, I have noticed in my analytics that some users are arriving on the site via the "ugly" URL and am looking for a clean way to redirect them to the pretty URL without impacting Google's ability to index the site. I have considered using a 301 redirect in the head but fear that Googlebot might try to follow it and end up in an endless loop. I have also considered using a JavaScript redirect that Googlebot wouldn't execute but fear that Google may interpret this as cloaking and penalize the website. Is there a good, clean, acceptable way to redirect real users away from the ugly URL if for some reason or another they end up arriving at the site that way?

• How can I convert an image from raw data in Android without any munging?

  I have raw image data (may be .png, .jpg, ...) and I want it converted in Android without changing its pixel depth (bpp). In particular, when I load a grayscale (8 bpp) image that I want to use as alpha (glTexImage() with GL_ALPHA), it converts it to 16 bpp (presumably 5_6_5). While I do have a plan B (actually, I'm probably on plan 'E' by now, this is really becoming annoying) I would really like to discover an easy way to do this using what is readily available in the API. So far, I'm using BitmapFactory.decodeByteArray(). While I'm at it. I'm doing this from a native environment via JNI (passing the buffer in from C, and a new buffer back to C from Java). Any portable solution in C/C++ would be preferable, but I don't want to introduce anything that might break in future versions of Android, etc.

• Load balancing on Ubuntu Server

  I have Ubuntu 10.04.4 server (32-bit) installed on a headless quad-core machine with 2GB RAM. I'm running a command-line analysis which is analyzing a large amount of data, but which does not require a large amount of RAM. The tool does not provide any multi-threading, so the CPU load is sitting at 1.00 (or sometimes just a little over). I ran top and pressed 1 to see the load on each of the cores and noticed that "Cpu1" is always running at 100%. I thought that the load would be distributed between the cores, rather than loading one core all the time. I'm sure I've seen this load-balancing behaviour before in Ubuntu or Debian Desktop versions. Why would the Server edition work differently? The analysis will likely take several hours to run, so loading one core at 100% for many hours while the other 3 remain idle is surely not the best approach?

• Ubuntu 12.04 boot freezes

  I installed win7 on one of my machines. It works without any problem. Now I can not install Ubuntu 12.04 (11.10, 11.04) because the installation process stops in a very early stage: I can see that ISOLinux was loaded, then I can see some very simple icons, then I can see text messages of the kernel. The last message I can see: [6.177983] sr 5:0:0:0: attached scsi general ss1 type 5 At that point the system stops. I tried different versions (11.04) , I disabled, and then disconnected the hdd, but the same problem occured independently from my actions. I can boot a gparted live cd, but that system can not see my hdd. On the other hand, I can boot the installation cd of the latest stable Debian distribution without any problem, but I would prefer to use Ubuntu, because I use that distribution on all of our machines.s Configuration: Asus P8H61-MLE motheboard, Gigabyte GTS 450, Intel i5, 4gb ram, wd 1T sata hdd Any idea? • Left-click button inconsistently clicks in Lubuntu

  Just recently installed Lubuntu 12.10 on my Samsung N130 netbook, and left-clicking only works every once in a while. Here is the output from synclient, if it helps. Before changing MaxTapTime to 0, tapping to click worked fine. Clicking with hardware button worked fine on previous versions of Ubuntu before switching to Lubuntu on same computer.   As many know, if you serve a page over https and the content loads resources (images, stylesheets, js, SWF objects, etc) over http, older versions of Internet Explorer will show the user a warning saying "This page contains both secure and non-secure items". This is discomforting to many non-technical users. Usually, I can look at the HTML source and identify which item(s) are triggering this error. Sometimes a Flash object will load something else or some embedded javascript will put a new object in the DOM and trigger this. What tools are good for quickly tracking down the source of the warning?

• Freezes if desktop effects is used.

  I have found that using desktop effects in Ubuntu versions later than 8.10 causes the desktop to freeze after a few seconds on my PC. the command lspci -nn gave the following 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Intel Corporation 82945G/GZ Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:2772] (rev 02) and with lspci -k I have 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82945G/GZ Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 02) Kernel driver in use: i915 Kernel modules: i915 The intel graphics cards seems to have some performence issues with xorg driver. However I have not noticed any freeze in Ubuntu 8.10. There are some workarounds at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Bugs/Lucidi8xxFreezes to make them work. But I can't find out what workaround should I do with my graphics controller. I have tried workaround F but it did not help. can anyone help me find a workaround for my graphics card? and is it actually possible to use desktop effect in this graphics card ?

• Notifications not working in Gnome 3.4

  Notifications are no longer working in Gnome 3.4 but they are working in Unity. I have tried everything I can think of but I am stumped. To clarify, I am changing the theme using Gnome Tweak. Themes were obtained from various repositories including noobslab/themes and webupd8. As an example, when using the default theme adwaita, I get all notifications when using Rhythmbox as to what song is being played on an internet radio station. I even tried a different media player with the same result. When I change the theme, all I get is a media player Icon. Change back to default theme and all Notifications work fine. Notifications were working at first with all themes, but no longer. The question is how to get Notifications to work for all themes. They did for previous versions of Gnome-shell.

• Just installed Ubuntu 12.04 - integrated speakers aren't working but headphones are

  I've just installed Ubuntu 12.04 alongside Windows Vista. There were no previous versions of Ubuntu installed. My computer is a Sony Vaio all in one, with integrated sound card and speakers. I can't get any sound coming from the speakers, but if I plug headphones into the jack on the side of the computer and select "headphones" under "sound" in "system settings" I can get sound through them. I have been searching all day trying to find a fix but haven't had any luck. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Mat :-)

• pointer jumping about Lubuntu 12.04

  Using 12.04 on a Samsung NC110. If I disable Touchpad, the cursor does not jump about while typing. This is very very annoying. Tried this tutorial, but this does not help. The problem occurs even when my fingers are well away from the Touchpad. I wonder if another key or key combination causes this problem? I sure could use some help on this. I have had this problem with various versions of Ubuntu and now Lubuntu.

  Concatenating output from a SELECT statement is a pretty basic thing to do in SQL. The main ways to perform this would be to use either the CONCAT() function, the || operator or the + operator. It really all depends on which version of SQL you are using. The following examples use T-SQL (MS SQL Server 2005) so it uses the + operator but other SQL versions have similar syntax.
