My arm-linux-androideabi/include/c++/4.6/thread file defines class thread in std only: #if defined(_GLIBCXX_HAS_GTHREADS) && defined(_GLIBCXX_USE_C99_STDINT_TR1) They don't seem to be defined in my sdk (c++config.h). But how can I possibly turn them on safely? Do i need to compile my own toolchain to use (non-p)threads? • Failing to install activerecord-jdbcmysql-adapter gem

  I am trying to follow the basic "Create a blog in 20 minutes" Rails screencast but have hit a stumbling block already. When I try to rake db:migrate I get errors about the gem activerecord-jdbcmysql-adapter not being installed. When I try to install it, I am told it doesn't exist. If I try to simply gem install mysql I get all sorts of madness appearing. I am running this on Mac OS X 10.6.2 and my installation was all done through gem. My basic setup works (Hello world!). • iPhone UIWebView: loadData does not work with certain types (Excel, MSWord, PPT, RTF)

  My task is to display the supported document types on an iPhone with OS 3.x, such as .pdf, .rtf, .doc, .ppt, .png, .tiff etc. Now, I have stored these files only encrypted on disk. For security reasons, I want to avoid storing them unencrypted on disk. Hence, I prefer to use loadData:MIMEType:textEncodingName:baseURL: instead of loadRequest: to display the document because loadData allows me to pass the content in a NSData object, i.e. I can decrypt the file in memory and have no need to store it on disk, as it would be required when using loadRequest. The problem is that loadData does not appear to work with all file types: Testing shows that all picture types seem to work fine, as well as PDFs, while the more complex types don't. I get a errors such as: NSURLErrorDomain Code=100 NSURLErrorDomain Code=102 WebView appears to need a truly working URL for accessing the documents as a file, despite me offering all content via the NSData object already. Here's the code I use to display the content: [webView loadData:data MIMEType:type textEncodingName:@"utf-8" baseURL:nil]; The mime-type is properly set, e.g. to "application/msword" for .doc files. Does anyone know how I could get loadData to work with all types that loadRequest supports? Or, alternatively, is there some way I can tell which types do work for sure (i.e. officially sanctioned by Apple) with loadData? Then I can work twofold, creating a temp unencrypted file only for those cases that loadData won't like. Update Looks like I'm not the first one running into this. This is probably a bit more memory-intensive, though, as both the server and the webview will probably both hold the entire contents in memory as two copies then, as opposed to using loadData, where both would rather share the same data object. (Mind you, I'll have to hold the decrypted data in memory, that's the whole point here).

• Vertical textes inside of table headers with respect of a JavaScript based on SVG library

  I use jqGrid with many columns contains Boolean information, which are displayed as checkboxes inside of table (see http://www.ok-soft-gmbh.com/VerticalHeaders/TestFixedO.htm as an example). To display information more compact I use vertical column headers. It works very well and works in jqGrid in all browsers (see my discussion with Tony Tomov in jqGrid forum http://www.trirand.com/blog/?page_id=393/feature-request/headers-with-vertical-orientation/), but in IE vertical texts looks not nice enough. I was asked from users why the texted displayed so strange. So I think about using a JavaScript based SVG library like SVG Web ( http://code.google.com/p/svgweb/ ) or Raphaël ( http://raphaeljs.com/ ). SVG is very powerful and it is difficult to find a good example is not very easy. I need only display vertical texts (-90 grad, from bottom to up) and use if possible without working in mode of absolute position. So one more times my question: I need have a possibility to display vertical texts (-90 grad rotation) inside of <td> element of table header. I want use a JavaScript based SVG library like SVG Web or Raphaël. The solution must support on IE6. Have somebody a good reference to example which could help me to do this? If somebody post a whole solution of the problem I would be happy. • how to pass parameter to a webservice using ksoap2?

• Delphi native Web Service applications not working. IIS 7 seems to be stripping the pathinfo

  I've run into an interesting problem that I never encountered with XP or IIS 6. Basically, I can't get a native Delphi (WebBroker) Web service server to work with a native Web service client in Windows 7 64-bit. Here's the most basic breakdown. If I create a new Web service application in Delphi 2010 (or any version, back to Delphi 7), and access it using IE 8, I can see the HTML that the WSDLHTMLPublish component creates, but I can never get to the SOAP. In the same way, the WSDL Importer cannot get to the SOAP either. (I have IIS 7 configured to use a 32-bit application pool, and I have created a working Script Map to the Handler Mappings. In short, the 32-bit ISAPI Web service is running). For example, I have a simple Web service server named TestService (created using the default sample interface generated when you create a new Web service server). I installed it in a virtual directory named scripts. If I enter http://localhost/scripts/TestService.dll/wsdl, IIS 7 displays the page http://localhost/scripts/TestService.dll. If I put my mouse over the WSDL link for the ITestService, I see http://localhost/scripts/TestService.dll/wsdl/ITestService in the status bar. However, when I click this link, the address bar shows http://localhost/scripts/TestService.dll/wsdl/ITestService, but I see only the HTML from http://localhost/scripts/TestService.dll. There seems no way to get to the SOAP definition. IIS 7 seems to be ignoring everything after the script name (it is ignoring the pathinfo). Additional evidence that IIS7 is stripping off the pathinfo is that if I pause my mouse over the ITestService link, the statusbar shows http://localhost/scripts/TestService.dll?intf=ITestService. Clicking that link takes me to another HTML page, the one associated with http://localhost/scripts/TestService.dll?intf=ITestService. However, any link that includes a pathinfo following the script name, takes me simply to http://localhost/scripts/TestService.dll. I have tested this in Delphi 7, Delphi 2010, and Delphi XE, with the same results. I am guessing that IIS7 is stripping off the pathinfo, since even the WSDL Importer cannot get to the SOAP definition. Tried creating a new Web service using the CGI option, and got the same result. Have any idea what is going on? Added: Bob Swart reports he has had no problems under Windows 7 32-bit. Downloading the 32-bit OS and will try that (in a new VM).

• [python] voice communication for python help!

  Hello! I'm currently trying to write a voicechat program in python. All tips/trick is welcome to do this. So far I found pyAudio to be a wrapper of PortAudio. So I played around with that and got an input stream from my microphone to be played back to my speakers. Only RAW of course. But I can't send RAW-data over the netowrk (due the size duh), so I'm looking for a way to encode it. And I searched around the 'net and stumbled over this speex-wrapper for python. It seems to good to be true, and believe me, it was. You see in pyAudio you can set the size of the chunks you want to take from your input audiobuffer, and in that sample code on the link, it's set to 320. Then when it's encoded, its like ~40 bytes of data per chunk, which is fairly acceptable I guess. And now for the problem. I start a sample program which just takes the input stream, encodes the chunks, decodes them and play them (not sending over the network due testing). If I just let my computer idle and run this program it works great, but as soon as I do something, i.e start Firefox or something, the audio input buffer gets all clogged up! It just grows and then it all crashes and gives me an overflow error on the buffer.. OK, so why am I just taking 320 bytes of the stream? I could just take like 1024 bytes or something and that will easy the pressure on the buffer. BUT. If I give speex 1024 bytes of data to encode/decode, it either crashes and says that thats too big for its buffer. OR it encodes/decodes it, but the sound is very noisy and "choppy" as if it only encoded a tiny bit of that 1024 chunk and the rest is static noise. So the sound sounds like a helicopter, lol. I did some research and it seems that speex only can convert 320 bytes of data at time, and well, 640 for wide-band. But that's the standard? How can I fix this problem? How should I construct my program to work with speex? I could use a middle-buffer tho that takes all available data to read from the buffer, then chunk this up in 320 bits and encode/decode them. But this takes a bit longer time and seems like a very bad solution of the problem.. Because as far as I know, there's no other encoder for python that encodes the audio so it can be sent over the network in acceptable small packages, or? I've been googling for three days now. Also there is this pyMedia library, I don't know if its good to convert to mp3/ogg for this kind of software. Thank in in advance for reading this, hope anyone can help me! (:

• Make Bluetooth on Android 2.1 discoverable indefinitely

  Hello all. I'm working on a research project which involves Bluetooth and the Android OS. I need to make Bluetooth discoverable indefinitely in order for the project to continue. The Problem: Android limits discoverability to 300 seconds. I cannot ask the user every 300 seconds to turn discoverability back on as my application is designed to run in the background without disturbing the user. As far as I am aware, there is no way to increase the time though Android's GUI. Some sources have called this a safety feature, others have called this a bug. There may be a bit of truth in both... What I'm Trying / Have Tried: I'm trying to edit a stable release of cyanogenmod to turn the discoverability timer off (it's possible; there's a configuration file that needs to have a single number changed). This isn't working because I'm having verification problems with the resulting package. During the past week, I downloaded the cyanogenmod source code, changed a relevant class in the hope that it would make Bluetooth discoverable indefinitely, and tried to recompile. This did not work because (a) the repo is frequently changed, leading to an unstable code base which fails to compile (OR, it could be that I'm using it incorrectly; just because it looked like it was the code's fault in many instances doesn't mean I should blame it for all the problems I encountered!) and (b) the repo decides to periodically "ignore" me (but not always, as I have gotten the code base before!), replying to my synchronization/connection attempts with: fatal: The remote end hung up unexpectedly As you might imagine, the above two issues are problematic and very frustrating to deal with. More Info: I'm running Android 2.1 via cyanogenmod (v5 I believe). This means the phone is also rooted. I have a developer phone, which means that the bootloader is unlocked. My phone is an HTC Magic (32B). The Big Question: How can I make Bluetooth indefinitely discoverable on Android? Thanks for your time and input. • Jquery dependent dropdown doesn't work in IE

  I have a 3 dropdowns: countries, states, and cities. States and cities are dependent of the previous form and loaded via AJAX. In Firefox and Chrome everything is ok, but in IE (8 in my case) when I select a state, the cities dropdown isn't loaded. It is like IE don't detect the change. It is not a load problem, because I have tested with a simple alert box. Any help will be really appreciated. I feel that the issue is because of TinyMCE script inclusion because on commenting the lines that include the tiny_mce.js and the support_page.js, the popup renders with no issues. I am also using the latest TinyMCE release. Please let me know why this is happening and what could be the resolution.

• OSX/Darwin unresolved symbols when linking functions from <math.h>

  I'm in the process of porting a large'ish (~1M LOC) project from a Window/Visual Studio environment to other platforms, the first of which happens to be Mac OS X. Originally the project was configured as Visual Studio solutions and projects, but now I'm using (the excellent) Premake (http://industriousone.com/premake) to generate project files for multiple platforms (VS, XCode, GMake). I configured, ported and built the first few projects without any significant problems, but having ported the math lib, I ran into this weird linking error that I haven't been able to resolve: Any functions used from math.h will fail to link (causing unresolved symbols). For reference, I'm using Premake v4.2.1 to generate projects for XCode v3.2.1, which is building using gcc v4.2 for the x86_64 architecture. (All this on 64-bit Snow Leopard) I've tried to persuade gcc to link and build everything against a 'known' SDK by adding -isysroot /Developer/SDKs/MacOSX10.6.sdk -mmacosx-version-min=10.6 to the build command line. Now under normal circumstances, adding -lm should take care of this, however in Darwin, those math libs are included in libSystem, which, as far as I can tell, gets implicitly linked by gcc/ld. I've tried creating a dummy project from within XCode which just runs: float f = log2(2.0)+log2f(3.f)+log1p(1.1)+log1pf(1.2f)+sin(8.0); std::cout << f << std::endl; and as expected, this builds just fine. However, if I put the same thing in the code inside the Premake generated project, all those math functions end up unresolved. Now comparing the linking command from the 'native' XCode project with my generated XCode project, they seem pretty identical (except that my generated project links other libs as well). • Dropdownlist and Datareader

  After trying many solutions listed on the internet I am very confused now. I have a C#/SQL web application for which I am simply trying to bind an ExecuteReader command to a Dropdownlist so the user can select a value. This is a VS2008 project on an XP OS. How it works is after the user selects a table, I use this selection as an input parameter to a method from my Datamatch.aspx.cs file. Then this Datamatch.aspx.cs file calls a method from my ADONET.cs class file. Finally this method executes a SQL procedure to return the list of columns from that table. (These are all tables in Adventureworks DB). I know that this method returns successfully the list of columns if I execute this SP in SSMS. However, I'm not sure how to tell if it works in VS or not. This should be simple. How can I do this? Here is some of my code. • Android: SlidingDrawer disappears under SurfaceView

  Hi, I'm trying to create a SlidingDrawer with LinearLayout content over a FrameLayout. At first it all seems fine, I get my SlidingDrawer's handle at the bottom of the screen. But then, if I start dragging the handle up and the content starts showing, it gets clipped by the border rectangle of the handle. If I drag the handle all the way up the entire content eventually gets shown, however if I now drag the handle down, it will be clipped by the border rectangle of the content. Also, if the handle is all the way up, as soon as I start dragging it the whole content disappears. I can still click on where the handle should be on the screen, drag it and the content would show, but I need to guess where the handle is. What seems to be causing this is the fact that I have a SurfaceView in the xml file just before SlidingDrawer. Removing the view from the xml solves this problem, however I need this view. If you have anything to add, please do Many systems are dependent on keeping accurate time, the problem is with changes to time due to daylight savings - moving the clock forward or backwards. For instance, one has business rules in an order taking system that depend on the time of the order - if the clock changes, the rules might not be as clear. How should the time of the order be persisted? There is of course an endless number of scenarios - this one is simply an illustrative one. How have you dealt with the daylight saving issue? What assumptions are part of your solution? (looking for context here) As important, if not more so: What did you try that did not work? Why did it not work? I would be interested in programming, OS, data persistence and other pertinent aspects of the issue. General answers are great, but I would also like to see details especially if they are only available on one platform. Summary of answers and other data: (please add yours) Do: Always persist time according to a unified standard that is not affected by daylight savings. GMT and UTC have been mentioned by different people. Include the local time offset (including DST offset) in stored timestamps. • My PNG has transparency, but after saving with PHP GD, transparency is lost [closed]

  I found the solution to my problem. See below the original post and completely at the bottom my solution. I made a stupid mistake :) First I crop an image and then save it to a png file. Right after this, I also show the image. However, the saved png does not have transparency and the shown one has. If the script is executed on a png, it saves a cached png. Next time the image is requested, the png file will be shown, but it has lost its transparency. Even stranger: When I save that cached png image as (within Firefox), it saves it suddenly as a jpg, even though the extension was png. Downloading the cached png using chrome and opening it in Photoshop gives the error: "file-format module cannot parse the file". I will show you the shown PNG and the generated PNG: http://www.foodmuseum.nl/SaveProblemTransparency.png Once I try to show that saved PNG with the GD library, it gives me an error. EDIT NO NO NO NO THIS IS NOT A DUPLICATE!!!... I ALREADY USED THEIR SOLUTION. The solution in the supposedly duplicate works for showing my image. But I also try to save it with the exact same resource, but then it has no transparency. EDIT 2 - SOLUTION I found out what the problem was. It was a stupid mistake. The script I provided above were cut out of a class and placed as sequential code, while in real this is not what exactly happened. • Why is my PHP query executing twice on page load?

  I am newish to PHP and I seem to be having an issue with an insert statement that executes twice when I open this page to view a document. In the database the 2nd insert is 1 second later. I am unsure if it is a favicon issue as my upload page uses an insert query and it executes once.
