• spring classloader isolation problem on jboss

  Hi, i have two ears deployed on jboss with proper classloaders isolation settings. When seam bean call spring beans which make some queries on database everything works fine, but when spring quartz job bean is invoked and execute tries to execute database queries then there is a problem because spring tries too use hibernate jar from other ear and exception is thrown! It is clearily spring classloader isolation problem. Did anyone meet such a problem? How to ensure isolation?

• Understanding CLR 2.0 Memory Model

  Joe Duffy, gives 6 rules that describe the CLR 2.0+ memory model (it's actual implementation, not any ECMA standard) I'm writing down my attempt at figuring this out, mostly as a way of rubber ducking, but if I make a mistake in my logic, at least someone here will be able to catch it before it causes me grief. Rule 1: Data dependence among loads and stores is never violated. Rule 2: All stores have release semantics, i.e. no load or store may move after one. Rule 3: All volatile loads are acquire, i.e. no load or store may move before one. Rule 4: No loads and stores may ever cross a full-barrier (e.g. Thread.MemoryBarrier, lock acquire, Interlocked.Exchange, Interlocked.CompareExchange, etc.). Rule 5: Loads and stores to the heap may never be introduced. Rule 6: Loads and stores may only be deleted when coalescing adjacent loads and stores from/to the same location. I'm attempting to understand these rules. x = y y = 0 // Cannot move before the previous line according to Rule 1. x = y z = 0 // equates to this sequence of loads and stores before possible re-ordering load y store x load 0 store z Looking at this, it appears that the load 0 can be moved up to before load y, but the stores may not be re-ordered at all. Therefore, if a thread sees z == 0, then it also will see x == y. If y was volatile, then load 0 could not move before load y, otherwise it may. Volatile stores don't seem to have any special properties, no stores can be re-ordered with respect to each other (which is a very strong guarantee!) Full barriers are like a line in the sand which loads and stores can not be moved over. No idea what rule 5 means. I guess rule 6 means if you do: x = y x = z Then it is possible for the CLR to delete both the load to y and the first store to x. x = y z = y // equates to this sequence of loads and stores before possible re-ordering load y store x load y store z // could be re-ordered like this load y load y store x store z // rule 6 applied means this is possible? load y store x // but don't pop y from stack (or first duplicate item on top of stack) store z What if y was volatile? I don't see anything in the rules that prohibits the above optimization from being carried out. This does not violate double-checked locking, because the lock() between the two identical conditions prevents the loads from being moved into adjacent positions, and according to rule 6, that's the only time they can be eliminated. So I think I understand all but rule 5, here. Anyone want to enlighten me (or correct me or add something to any of the above?)

• App only spawns one thread

  I have what I thought was a thread-friendly app, and after doing some output I've concluded that of the 15 threads I am attempting to run, only one does. • Entity Framework - refresh objects from database

  I'm having trouble with refreshing objects in my database. I have an two PC's and two applications. On the first PC, there's an application which communicates with my database and adds some data to Measurements table. On my other PC, there's an application which retrives the latest Measurement under a timer, so it should retrive measurements added by the application on my first PC too. The problem is it doesn't. On my application start, it caches all the data from database and never get new data added. I use Refresh() method which works well when I change any of the cached data, but it doesn't refresh newly added data. Here is my method which should update the data: public static Entities myEntities = new Entities(); public static Measurement GetLastMeasurement(int conditionId) { myEntities.Refresh(RefreshMode.StoreWins, myEntities.Measurements); return (from measurement in myEntities.Measurements where measurement.ConditionId == conditionId select measurement).OrderByDescending(cd => cd.Timestamp).First(); } P.S. • Webapp: safetly update a shared List/Map in the AppContext

  I've Lists and Maps in my WebAppContext. Most of the time these are only read by multiple Threads but sometimes there's the need to update or add some data. I'm wondering what's the best way to do this without incurring in a ConcurrentModificationException. I think that using CopyOnWriteArrayList I can achieve what I want in terms of - I do not have to sync on every read operation- I can safety update the list while other threads are reading it. Is this the best solution? What about Maps?

• Why does CGPDFPageGetDrawingTransform() crash with SIGABRT when specifying a rotation?

  When I call CGPDFPageGetDrawingTransform() with a rotation argument, the application crashes. If I specify no rotation, there is no crash. • remove schema from linq datacontexts

  When I add stored procedures to a linq datacontext, by default visual studio prefixes the stored procedure with the sql schema that it is in. Is there any way to stop this? In our environment, the stored procedures may be moved to other schemas over time, and we will default the schema based on the sql user used to connect. Do I have to do this manually or can I somehow turn off the schema prefixes?

  To instantiate a Stateful Session Bean inside of a JSP/ servlet, I am using: InitialContext ic = new InitialContext(); SomeStateful state = (SomeStateful) ic.lookup("java:comp/env/SomeStatefulBean"); Trial and error had me prefix the name of my EJB with java:comp/env/, so the above works (on Glassfish 2.1). However I want to know what the proper way to obtain this prefix is. Is there a CLI tool or function somewhere in the admin panel that will allow we to examine/ alter this? Is this platform/ application server dependant? Is there a setting within my ear, EJB-jar or war which I can examine or alter for this? (Forgive the beginner question) Thanks!

• Strange error with CreateCompatibleDC

  Maybe this is a foolish question, I can't see why I can not get a DC created in the following code : HBITMAP COcrDlg::LoadClippedBitmap(LPCTSTR pathName,UINT maxWidth,UINT maxHeight) { HBITMAP hBmp = (HBITMAP)::LoadImage(NULL, pathName, IMAGE_BITMAP, 0, 0, LR_LOADFROMFILE | LR_CREATEDIBSECTION); if (!hBmp) return NULL; HDC hdc = (HDC)GetDC(); HDC hdcMem = CreateCompatibleDC(hdc); if (!hdcMem) { DWORD err = GetLastError(); } ... ... ... The bitmap hBmp is loaded fine and hdc has a valid value. But the call to CreateCompatibleDC() returns a NULL pointer. Then, GetLastError() returns 0 ! Anybody can guess what's going on here , please ? PS : There are no memory allocations or GDI routines called before this one...so I think memory leaks should be ruled out.

• Android: Having trouble creating a subclass of application to share data with multiple Activities

  Hello, I just finished a couple of activities in my game and now I was going to start to wire them both up to use real game data, instead of the test data I was using just to make sure each piece worked. Since multiple Activities will need access to this game data, I started researching the best way to pass this data to my Activities. I know about using putExtra with intents, but my GameData class has quite a bit of data and not just simple key value pairs. Besides quite a few basic data types, it also has large arrays. I didn't really want to try and pass all that, unless I can pass the entire object, instead of just key/data pairs. I read the following post and thought it would be the way to go, but so far, I haven't got it to work. Android: How to declare global variables? I created a simple test app to try this method out, but it keeps crashing and my code seems to look the same as in the post above - except I changed the names. Here is the error I am getting. As I understand, it is a TextBox inside a Cell when the Cell in edit mode. I tried also to add a style for TextBox, but it have an effect only on TextBoxes in XAML, but not on the DataGrid cells.

• Drop outs when accessing share by DFS name.

  I have a strange problem, aren't they all! I have a DFS root \domain\files\vms, it has a single target on a different server than the namespace. I can copy a test file set from the target directly via \server\vms$\testfiles and all is well, the files copy fine. I have repeated these tests many times. If I try and copy the files from the dfs root I get big pauses in the network traffic, about 50 seconds every couple of minutes, all the traffic just stops for the copy. If I start another copy between the same two machines during this pause, it starts copying fine, so I know it's not an issue with the disks on the server. Every once in a while the copy will fail, no errors, the progress bar will just zip all the way to 100% and the copy dialog will close. Checking the target folder show that the copy is incomplete. I've moved the LUN to another server and had the same problem. The servers are all 2008 R2, the clients are Vista x64, Windows7 x64 and 2008 R2, all have the same problem. Anyone got any ideas? Cheers, Stephen More Information: I've been running a NetMon trace on the connection when the file copy fails and what seems to be standing out is that when opening a file that the copy completes on the SMB command looks like this: SMB2: C CREATE (0x5), Name=Training\PDC2008\BB34 Live Services Notifications, Awareness, and Communications.wmv@#422082, Context=DHnQ, Context=MxAc, Context=QFid, Context=RqLs, Mid = 245376 SMB2: R CREATE (0x5), Context=MxAc, Context=RqLs, Context=DHnQ, Context=QFid, FID=0xFFFFFFFF00000015, Mid = 245376 But for the last file when the copy dialog closes looks like this: SMB2: C CREATE (0x5), Name=gt\files\Media\Training\PDC2008\BB36 FAST Building Search-Driven Portals with Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 and Microsoft Silverlight.wmv@#859374, Context=DHnQ, Context=MxAc, Context=QFid, Context=RqLs, Mid = 77 SMB2: R , Mid = 77 - NT Status: System - Error, Code = (58) STATUS_OBJECT_PATH_NOT_FOUND The main difference seems to be in the name, one is relative to the open file share, the other has gained the gt\files\media prefix which is the name of the DFS target. These failures are always preceded by logoff and back on of the SMB target. Might have to bump this one to PSS.
