  • User directory in path in zsh: not working

    - by Yar
    I'm doing this in my .zshrc PATH="~/scripts:$PATH" and if I do echo $PATH it appears as the first thing in the path. Yet this directory isn't included in the executable path (nor for tab-completion). What am I doing wrong? ls ~/scripts shows the directory as expected. Edit: This works, though... I guess ~ doesn't work in the path? #PATH="~/scripts:$PATH" PATH="/Users/yar/scripts:$PATH"

  • Win7 finding location of installed program

    - by JubJub
    Usually on windows XP if I wanted to know the location of an installed program I would just click 'Properties' and it would show where the executable is located. On windows 7 I do the same thing and I get this: How can I find out where programs are located based on the shortcut? I did however notice that for some programs it does show a shortcut under the 'Target', but not in the case with iTunes for example.

  • Where is a good permanent place to install custom bash scripts?

    - by Tchalvak
    I'm about to install "leiningen" which is a bash script for the clojure programming language with a lot of usefulness... ...but I'm not sure where it is appropriate to -put- a executable script in the linux system so that it's permanently and stable-ly available. I don't think that anywhere in /home makes sense, but I don't know which directory/directories are supposed to be used for that. /usr/share?

  • Does Ivy's url resolver support transitive retrieval?

    - by Sean
    For some reason I can't seem to resolve the dependencies of my dependencies when using a url resolver to specify a repository's location. However, when using the ibiblio resolver, I am able to retrieve them. For example: <!-- Ivy File --> <ivy-module version="1.0"> <info organisation="org.apache" module="chained-resolvers"/> <dependencies> <dependency org="commons-lang" name="commons-lang" rev="2.0" conf="default"/> <dependency org="checkstyle" name="checkstyle" rev="5.0"/> </dependencies> </ivy-module> <!-- ivysettings file --> <ivysettings> <settings defaultResolver="chained"/> <resolvers> <chain name="chained"> <url name="custom-repo"> <ivy pattern="http://my.internal.domain.name/ivy/[organisation]/[module]/[revision]/ivy-[revision].xml"/> <artifact pattern="http://my.internal.domain.name/ivy/[organisation]/[module]/[revision]/[artifact]-[revision].[ext]"/> </url> <url name="ibiblio-mirror" m2compatible="true"> <artifact pattern="http://mirrors.ibiblio.org/pub/mirrors/maven2/[organisation]/[module]/[revision]/[artifact]-[revision].[ext]" /> </url> <ibiblio name="ibiblio" m2compatible="true"/> </chain> </resolvers> </ivysettings> <!-- checkstyle ivy.xml file generated from pom via ivy:install task --> <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <ivy-module version="1.0" xmlns:m="http://ant.apache.org/ivy/maven"> <info organisation="checkstyle" module="checkstyle" revision="5.0" status="release" publication="20090509202448" namespace="maven2" > <license name="GNU Lesser General Public License" url="http://www.gnu.org/licenses/lgpl.txt" /> <description homepage="http://checkstyle.sourceforge.net/"> Checkstyle is a development tool to help programmers write Java code that adheres to a coding standard </description> </info> <configurations> <conf name="default" visibility="public" description="runtime dependencies and master artifact can be used with this conf" extends="runtime,master"/> <conf name="master" visibility="public" description="contains only the artifact published by this module itself, with no transitive dependencies"/> <conf name="compile" visibility="public" description="this is the default scope, used if none is specified. However, when attempting to exclusively use the "custom-repo" or "ibiblio-mirror" resolvers, I am able to resolve my project's two explicitly defined dependencies, but not checkstyle's dependencies. Is this possible? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Understanding Unix "Expect"

    - by zchtodd
    I don't think I properly understand the "expect" utility. While searching for a way to automate a build process that involves jar signing, I came across expect, and thought I could use it to supply a password to jarsigner (whether having a password in a shell script is a good idea I understand the risks of). expect "Enter Passphrase for keystore:" Instead of catching this, the jarsigner sat waiting at that line. Am I completely misunderstanding the point of "expect" and if I am, what can I use to achieve this effect?

  • Scheduled Tasks - how do I handle a user log off?

    - by Ovesh
    I set a new scheduled task to start "when my computer starts". I assigned an Administrator user to run the task. This is an executable that is supposed to run indefinitely in the background. The problem is, that if the Administrator logs in and then logs off, the task stops running. Is there a solution for this? UPDATE: this was caused because the task running was in java. See my own solution.

    I recently had a nasty trojan on my box have one problem that has persisted after getting rid of it using Microsoft Security Essentials. I need to : Install firefox executable Set "dont import anything(from Internet Explorer)" Set default browser to "no" Set default browser not to check again Copy a shortcut onto the desktop that goes to a specific URL I know this should be able to be implemented with an MSI package, but could I also set those settings? Thanks

  • Suggest a Software Inventory Program?

    - by Hutch
    I'm looking for an audit/inventory package that can run on all our PCs and identify all installed software. I've found issues with the packages that I've tried in that most of the packages seem to simply list the contents of the Add/Remove Programs list, which is useless with any application that is just a standalone executable. We have a few hundred PCs so the likes of Altiris may be too costly.

  • Freeware (preferably open-source) tool for creating multi-file spanning archives as a self merging SFX

    - by Lockszmith
    I have a large file I want to transfer using either Internet storage hosting, DVD-Rs or USB storage, which sometimes is limited to FAT file-systems (for example: mobile phones) What I'm basically looking for is a tool that create multiple files/volumes (less than 2GB each - FAT's file size limit) which are packed with a self-extracting executable. Currently the only tool I found doing this is WinRAR, but that's shareware, and not free. Is there any Free, preferably Open-Source tool that does that? Thank in advance

  • Start menu entries suddenly missing

    - by stefan.at.wpf
    I am using Windows 7 x64 SP1 with all updates applied. During the last weeks I observed that some start menu entries / folders suddenly disappeared. Those programs then sometimes can be found using the search function of the start menu, then however they are labeled by the name of their executable (like photoshop instead of Adobe Photoshop). Does anyone know where to start looking for errors? Does the start menu has anything to do with windows search? I doubt it?

  • How to email output of scheduled tasks?

    - by Starfish
    On Unix systems, the scheduled task service will email any output that a scheduled task produces. If no output is produced, no email is sent. How can I do the same thing on Windows Server 2003 or 2008? Is there a way to call a batch file or executable that will run my task, capture the output, and email it only if there is output? If you propose a PowerShell solution, please note that I only have PowerShell 1.0.

  • Compile error with initializer_list when trying to use it to initialize member value of class

    - by ilektron
    I am trying to make a class initializable from an initialization_list in a class constructor's constructor's initialization list. It works for a std::map, but not for my custom class. I don't see any difference other than templates are used in std::map. #include <iostream> #include <initializer_list> #include <string> #include <sstream> #include <map> using std::string; class text_thing { private: string m_text; public: text_thing() { } text_thing(text_thing& other); text_thing(std::initializer_list< std::pair<const string, const string> >& il); text_thing& operator=(std::initializer_list< std::pair<const string, const string> >& il); operator string() { return m_text; } }; class static_base { private: std::map<string, string> m_test_map; text_thing m_thing; static_base(); public: static static_base& getInstance() { static static_base instance; return instance; } string getText() { return (string)m_thing; } }; typedef std::pair<const string, const string> spair; text_thing::text_thing(text_thing& other) { m_text = other.m_text; } text_thing::text_thing(std::initializer_list< std::pair<const string, const string> >& il) { std::stringstream text_gen; for (auto& apair : il) { text_gen << "{" << apair.first << ", " << apair.second << "}" << std::endl; } } text_thing& text_thing::operator=(std::initializer_list< std::pair<const string, const string> >& il) { std::stringstream text_gen; for (auto& apair : il) { text_gen << "{" << apair.first << ", " << apair.second << "}" << std::endl; } return *this; } static_base::static_base() : m_test_map{{"test", "1"}, {"test2", "2"}}, // Compiler fine with this m_thing{{"test", "1"}, {"test2", "2"}} // Compiler doesn't like this { } int main() { std::cout << "Starting the program" << std::endl; std::cout << "The text thing: " << std::endl << static_base::getInstance().getText(); } I get this compiler output g++ -O0 -g3 -Wall -c -fmessage-length=0 -std=c++11 -MMD -MP -MF"static_base.d" -MT"static_base.d" -o "static_base.o" "../static_base.cpp" Finished building: ../static_base.cpp Building file: ../test.cpp Invoking: GCC C++ Compiler g++ -O0 -g3 -Wall -c -fmessage-length=0 -std=c++11 -MMD -MP -MF"test.d" -MT"test.d" -o "test.o" "../test.cpp" ../test.cpp: In constructor ‘static_base::static_base()’: ../test.cpp:94:40: error: no matching function for call to ‘text_thing::text_thing(<brace-enclosed initializer list>)’ m_thing{{"test", "1"}, {"test2", "2"}} ^ ../test.cpp:94:40: note: candidates are: ../test.cpp:72:1: note: text_thing::text_thing(std::initializer_list<std::pair<const std::basic_string<char>, const std::basic_string<char> > >&) text_thing::text_thing(std::initializer_list< std::pair<const string, const string> >& il) ^ ../test.cpp:72:1: note: candidate expects 1 argument, 2 provided ../test.cpp:67:1: note: text_thing::text_thing(text_thing&) text_thing::text_thing(text_thing& other) ^ ../test.cpp:67:1: note: candidate expects 1 argument, 2 provided ../test.cpp:23:2: note: text_thing::text_thing() text_thing() ^ ../test.cpp:23:2: note: candidate expects 0 arguments, 2 provided make: *** [test.o] Error 1 Output of gcc -v Using built-in specs.   • Execute a script with root permission

    - by Bastien974
    Hi all, I need a script that will chown/chmod some files. This script need to be executable by any user. The problem is that those files are owned by different users, so it needs to be executed as root. I tried the SUID so that any users with X permission can execute the script as root, but seems that it doesn't work with a bash script because of security issue. How can I do that ? thanks.
