    When linking pages, does google give higher value to href="http://www.mydomain.com" than href="/"? I am wondering because I have heard that (for SEO) it is better to provide the full http address when linking to the sites homepage. As I thought about it, I wondered why that would be. Would google really assign higher value to href="http://www.mydomain.com" instead of href="/"? They both mean the same thing. Do you guys know or have any resources on this?

    Hello, Actually i think that i have an strong knowledge of SEO, but im having some doubts about the following: I will have to increase the position in Google of certain product pages of a company in the next months. I supposed that not only will be sufficient the following tasks: Improve usability of those pages. Change the pages title. Add meta description and keywords. Url's in a REST way. 301's http header to dont lose page rank for the new URLS Optimizing content for Google. Configure links of the website (follow and no follow attributes) Get more inbounds links (Link building tasks). Create RSS. Put main website in Twitter (using twitter feed) using the RSS. Put main website in Facebook. Create a Youtube channel. Invest in Adwords. Invest in other online advertising companies. Use sitemap.xml and Google Webmaster tools. Use Google Trends to analyze the volume of searches of certain keywords. Use Google Analytics to analyze weak points and good points of your site, and find new oportunities in keywords. Use tools to find new keywords related with your content. Do you have some internet links, or knowledge about all the tasks that a SEO Expert should do? Could you share some knowledge about what kind of business could be do with another companies (B2B) to increase the search engine position of those product pages.     We have a client with a facebook page, let's say his company is called Bob Roberts Super Widgets. And if you search in Facebook for Bob Roberts Super Widgets then up he pops. But the shorthand he's commonly known by is BR Super Widgets and indeed the website we've created for him is br-super-widgets.com. In Facebook, searching for BR Super Widgets doesn't show up our Mr Bob. We don't have a lot of Facebook expertise, so asking for help here. Does anyone know how to ensure you're found in Facebook search for both short and long company names? Have found this this similar question in the Facebook forum but the poor old questioner never got a response.

    I had always assumed that AJAX-driven content was invisible to search engines. (i.e. content inserted into the DOM via XMLHTTPRequest) For example, in this site, the main content is loaded via AJAX request by the browser: http://www.trustedsource.org/query/terra.cl ...if you view this page with Javascript disabled, the main content area is blank. However, Google cache shows the full content after the AJAX load: http://74.125.155.132/search?q=cache:JqcT6EVDHBoJ:www.trustedsource.org/query/terra.cl+http://www.trustedsource.org/query/terra.cl&cd=1&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us So, apparently search engines do index content loaded by AJAX. Questions: Is this a new feature in search engines? Most postings on the web indicate that you have to publish duplicate static HTML content for search engines to find them. Are there any tricks to get an AJAX-driven content to be crawled by search engines (besides creating duplicate static HTML content). Will the AJAX-driven content be indexed if it is loaded from a separate subdomain? How about a separate domain?

  • Search implementation dilemma: full text vs. plain SQL

    I have a MySQL/Rails app that needs search. Here's some info about the data: Users search within their own data only, so searches are narrowed down by user_id to begin with. Each user will have up to about five thousand records (they accumulate over time). I wrote out a typical user's records to a text file. The file size is 2.9 MB. Search has to cover two columns: title and body. title is a varchar(255) column. body is column type text. This will be lightly used. If I average a few searches per second that would be surprising. It's running an a 500 MB CentOS 5 VPS machine. I don't want relevance ranking or any kind of fuzziness. Searches should be for exact strings and reliably return all records containing the string. Simple date order -- newest to oldest. I'm using the InnoDB table type. I'm looking at plain SQL search (through the searchlogic gem) or full text search using Sphinx and the Thinking Sphinx gem. Sphinx is very fast and Thinking Sphinx is cool, but it adds complexity, a daemon to maintain, cron jobs to maintain the index. Can I get away with plain SQL search for a small scale app?

  • iPhone Multithreaded Search

    I'm sort of new to any sort of multithreading and simply can't seem to get a simple search method working on a background thread properly. Everything seems to be in order with an NSAutoreleasePool and the UI being updated on the main thread. The app doesn't crash and does perform a search in the background but the search results yield the several of the same items several times depending on how fast I type it in. The search works properly without the multithreading (which is commented out), but is very slow because of the large amounts of data I am working with.     Hi, I've just started a new project in ASP.net 4.0 with MVC 2. What I need to be able to do is have a custom hook at the start and end of each action of the controller. e.g. public void Index() { *** call to the start custom hook to externalfile.cs (is empty so does nothing) ViewData["welcomeMessage"] = "Hello World"; *** call to the end custom hook to externalfile.cs (changes "Hello World!" to "Hi World") return View(); } The View then see welcomeMessage as "Hi World" after being changed in the custom hook. The custom hook would need to be in an external file and not change the "core" compiled code. This causes a problem as with my limited knowledge ASP.net MVC has to be compiled. Does anyone have any advice on how this can be achieved? Thanks

  • Dolphin search bar missing. How can i get it back?

    A while ago, my search bar went missing in dolphin. If the search toolbar is checked for view/unhide, nothing shows up. I noticed if i check and uncheck the button to hide/unhide it, a small, thin content-less bar slightly pushes the rest of the toolbar up. i tried reconfiguring with dpkg, purging and reinstalling, etc. i left it alone as i thought it would be fixed in an update, but today i upgraded daolphin and it's still gone. any thoughts?

    Hey all, Not sure what happened over the weekend, but since this morning everytime I use google I get a popup from Chrome saying "It looks like you've moved. Would you like to use http://www.google.com/ ?" (as opposed to my usual google.nl). What does this mean, and how do I disable the popup? Clicking No or the close button didn't solve it, and I don't want to click Yes because I like my Google localized.

  • Google Maps: Simple app not working on IE

    We have a simple Google Maps traffic application up at: http://www.avonandsomerset.police.uk/newsroom/traffic/ For some reason it's recently stopped working in IE correctly. At this point in time it was using V2 of the API, so I've just upgraded it to use V3 - but it still won't work in IE. It works fine in Chrome & Firefox. But in all versions of IE I've tired (6,7,8) the Google Map doesn't load fully. The problem The Google Map DIV will generally load all the controls (Zoom, Powered by Google, map types) but the actual map tiles do not appear in IE.
