• how to select specific number of child entities instead of all in entity framework 3.5?

  Hi all, i am wondering how can i select specific number of child objects instead of taking them all with include? lets say i have object 'Group' and i need to select last ten students that joined the group. When i use '.Include("Students"), EF includes all students. I was trying to use Take(10), but i am pretty new to EF and programming as well, so i couldn't figure it out. Any suggestions? UPDATED: ok, i have Group object already retrieved from db like this: Group group = db.Groups.FirstOrDefault(x=>x.GroupId == id) I know that i can add Include("Students") statement, but that would bring ALL students, and their number could be quite big whether i need only freshest 10 students. Can i do something like this: var groupWithStudents = group.Students.OrderByDescending(//...).Take(10);? The problem with this is that Take< no longer appears in intellisense. Is this clear enough? • R scatterplot overplotting color

  So far I have this: qplot(df[[1]], as.numeric(rownames(df)), group=df[[2]], color=df[[2]], ylab="") I want to use different colors for the points in the 2 groups - perhaps a lighter shade for the what's in black now and a darker - say, red for what's in blue. Also, I want to use hexbin kind of thing for group=0 but not for group=1. I'm not able to get the syntax to get this working. In the current plot 0 is in black and 1 is in blue. Added: I worked on it some more, and by using factor and scale_colour_manual, I got the grey color for 0 and red for 1: > palette1 [1] "grey" "red" "blue" "violet" "black" fy=factor(y, labels=c('grey', 'red')) qplot(x, seq(1:length(x)),col=fy, ylab="") + geom_point() + scale_colour_manual(values=palette1) Pending questions are: How to first plot all the grey and then red on top (some of the red is now hidden because the grey is plotted over). How to apply the hexbin logic for group0 i.e. the grey points only and not for the red.

  I'm running a day for 30 kids aged 11-18 about computer game programming. They have all opted to do it, but they have no experience at all of programming. My main aim is for them to learn a few things: programming is hard/challenging programming is something they can learn to do being a computer games programmer != playing games all day a little more insight into how games actually work I'd thought of splitting them into two groups, of younger/less experience and older/more experience, then doing slightly different things. I'd considered showing them Scratch, Game Maker, before showing them the basics of Python and getting them to write a simple text based game (perhaps something like, computer picks a random number, you have to guess it in as few guesses as possible, computer says higher/lower for each guess). Does anyone have any ideas of things to do/show them/ways to teach them?

What is a good and idiomatic way to do this in Scala? I know that I can pattern match on Regexes, but this is syntactically not very pleasing in this case, because I have no groups to extract: scala> "5" match { case Digit() => true case _ => false } res4: Boolean = true Or I could fall back to the underlying Java pattern: scala> Digit.pattern.matcher("5").matches res6: Boolean = true which is not elegant, either. • New records added to DataGridView aren't displayed

  I have a custom Order class, groups of which are stored in List<Order> and a DataGridView. I think the problem is in my implementation so here's how I'm using it: In the form enclosing DataGridView (as OrdersDataGrid): public partial class MainForm : Form { public static List<Order> Orders; public MainForm() { // code to populate Orders with values, otherwise sets Orders to new List<Order>(); OrdersDataGrid.DataSource = Orders; } Then in another form that adds an Order: // Save event public void Save(object sender, EventArgs e) { Order order = BuildOrder(); // method that constructs an order object from form data MainForm.Orders.Add(order); } From what I can tell from the console this is added successfully. I thought the DataGrid would be updated automatically after this since Orders has changed - is there something I'm missing? The DataGrid accepts the class since it generates columns from the members.

  We have an ASP.NET MVC application + IIS 7.5 + SQL Server 2008 R2. We have to load a lot of aggregate counters on the each page. We decided to use ajax and call with javascript for each counter or groups of counters and return them as JSON result. We solve the problem that user doesn't wait for page loading, page loads fast. User waits for counters loading while seeing other page content. But we thought that if we make calls from javascript - our queries will be make async, but we notice, that it is not. All our javascipt calls runs immediately, but action that they invoke are in queue. If we use Async Controller ability - all counters calculating simultaneously, but user has to wait for the longest counter calculating before page loads. The question: We want to understand what is happens if we use ajax and call two or more actions simultaneously. And how can we configuring this. (also in each action we make some queries to sql server)

  Seems unlikely, but is there any way to generate a set of unit tests for the following rewrite rule: RewriteRule ^/(user|group|country)/([a-z]+)/(photos|videos)$ http:/whatever?type=$1&entity=$2&resource=$3 From this I'd like to generate a set of urls of the form: /user/foo/photos /user/bar/photos /group/baz/videos /country/bar/photos etc... The reason I don't want to just do this once by hand is that I'd like the bounded alternation groups (e.g. (user|group|country)) to be able to grow and maintain coverage without having the update the tests by hand. Is there a rewrite rule or regex parser that might be able to do this, or am I doing it by hand?

• Chaining Animations (iPhone / MonoTouch)

  I'm trying to slide some (custom) tab-like buttons into view. I don't want them all to move at the same time. Also, they shouldn't move one at at time (where one slides after the other finishes). I want each button to begin sliding slightly after the previous. Preferably it would happen on a curve but just a fixed .1 second offset would be alright too. Monotouch or Obj-C code is fine. I'm thinking there is something in the APIs for animating groups of items like this. Hopefully, at least...

• Count number of results in a View

  I need to count how many people belong in pre-defined groups (this is easy to do in SQL using the SELECT COUNT statement). My Views query runs fine and displays the actual data in my table, but I simply need to know how many results it found. However there doesn't seem to be a COUNT option in views. I am guessing I am going to have to use some sort of views hook, and then stick the result in the table. Here's a quick example of what i'm trying to achieve: My Table ---------------------- Group A | 20 people Group B | 63 people and so on. (I've tried using the Views_Calc module, but I get errors because it is not quite stable yet.) Anybody know of an easy way to count results in Views?

How do I go about creating a new "Pool" and associating a GroupID?

• Xcode can't find imported header files

  I've used other IDE's in the past but am new to Xcode. I'm trying to bring in a bunch of C code from an open source project. I've imported them into a new Group and the .c files all show up under Implementation Files and the full list of files shows up in the Groups/Files group as well as my project directory in the finder. When I try to include or import one of these header files, code completion even works so I know Xcode is seeing them. But then when I go to build it says "no such file or directory". How can I get these files to import into my code?

• ggplot2 add legend for each geom_point manually

  I created a plot using 2 separate data sets so that I could create different errorbars. The first data set has error bars that go down only whereas the second data set has error bars that go up only. This prevents unnecessary overlap in the plot. I also used a compound shape for one of the groups. I want to create a legend based on these shapes (not a colour), but I can't seem to figure it out. It seems like there would be a simple way to accomplish this (maybe with analytics) but for some reason it is escaping me.   I have a Team class that inherits from a Group class. Both Team and Groups have memberships through the same association. However, I need to run a method after a Team memberships is added but not a Group. • Symfony models with foreign keys

  So I have 2 models. Users and Groups. Each group has a user as the creator and a group has many users. The FK of these tables are set up correctly, but I was wondering if there was an easier way to get all related FK objects from other objects. For example, with a group object, is there a built in method to get the user object of the creator? Or for a user, is there a built in method to get all group object that he belongs to? I couldn't find out how to do this with the documentation on the symfony page. From what I see I feel like I need to create methods and use doctrine to access the appropriate tables using the current objects id and so on. Thanks!

  In rpc.h, the GUID structure is declared as follows: typedef struct _GUID { DWORD Data1; WORD Data2; WORD Data3; BYTE Data[8]; } GUID; I understand Data1, Data2, and Data3. They define the first, second, and third sets of hex digits when writing out a GUID (XXXXXXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXXXXXX). What I never understood was why the last 2 groups were declared together in the same byte array. Wouldn't this have made more sense (and been easier to code against)? typedef struct _GUID { DWORD Data1; WORD Data2; WORD Data3; WORD Data4; BYTE Data5[6]; } GUID; Anyone know why it is declared this way?

  I have datbase with thousands of rows of error logs and their description.This error log is for an application that running 24/7. I want to create a dashboard/UI to view the current common errors happening for prodcution support. The problem I am having is that even though there are lot of common errors, the error description differs by the transcation ID or user ID or things that are unique for that sigle prcoess. e.g Error trasaction XYz failed for user 233 e.g 2. Error trasaction XYz failed for user 567 I consider these two erros to be same. So I want to a program that will go through the new error logs and classify them into groups. I am trying to use "edit distance" but its very slow.Since I alraedy have old error logs, i am trying to think of solutions using that information too. Any thoughts?

  I have a picker that prompts the user to choose a gender and an age group (17-21, 22-26, etc.) These 2 choices determine which view the user will be brought to after pressing the button, but I am having troubles writing the method for that button.   Is there a way to count only records that are not null; similar to "COUNTA" in Excel? I would think this would be very simple process, but nothing I have tried has worked. If necessary, I can try to work this into my SQL query, but the query is already incredibly complicated. Also, I've found very little documentation for how to calculate report totals, and how to total from groups. Would anyone have any recommendations on what to use as a reference?

The approach I am considering is for each string look at all other strings and find the common characters and where differing characters are, trying to find sets of strings that have the most in common, but I fear that this is not very efficient and may give false positives. Note that this is not the same as 'How do I detect groups of common strings in filenames' because that assumes that a string will always have a series of digits following it. [Edited 15/09/09 to add more sample strings]
