  • Help with starting up my thin server with Sinatra

    Hi All, I'm a newcomer trying to get my feet wet with Ruby and Sinatra. I followed the Slicehost articles in getting Ruby 1.9.1 setup along with Thin 1.2.7 with a reverse proxy to Nginx. Most things were going pretty smooth until I tried to start up my thin server. Also, is this still the preferred way of running Sinatra on thin? I can get the app working with just running it through Ruby itself: $ ruby myapp.rb == Sinatra/1.0 has taken the stage on 4567 for development with backup from Thin This allows me to see my pages in my sandbox.     I need to dynamically generate a code like this in the resulting html: <p>>> gallery one</p> <p><a href="../gallery2">gallery two</a></p> <p><a href="../about">about the author</a></p> <p><a href="../news">our news</a></p> I do have menu_code string variable created in views.py (it is generated depending on an item number of the current page passed — 1 in the case above), which contains that long string with the code shown above. It is (well, supposed to) passed by locals() into the html template (all other variables are passed that way successfully): return render_to_response('gallery_page.html', locals()) I have this: {% include menu_code %} inside the template html. But instead of being interpreted as code it is just shown as text in the browser. What am I doing wrong? How to make it work as a dynamically generated menu?

  • Help with Android LinearLayout or RelativeLayout

    I need to create two views programmatically (because I need to access the ondraw of one of the views). For some reason, no matter what I do to add the views to the contentview, they don't show up vertically stacked, one below the other. I can do it just fine using the XML using a RelativeLayout and layout positioning, but with the XML I can't create a view object and overload the ondraw method. What am I doing wrong with the programmatic approach, and how do I solve this problem?     I am having some trouble understanding the behavior of the following Scheme program: (define c (dynamic-wind (lambda () (display 'IN)(newline)) (lambda () (call/cc (lambda (k) (display 'X)(newline) k))) (lambda () (display 'OUT)(newline)))) As I understand, c will be bound to the continution created right before "(display 'X)". But using c seems to modify itself! The define above prints (as I expected) IN, X and OUT: IN X OUT And it is a procedure: #;2> c #<procedure (a9869 . results1678)> Now, I would expect that when it is called again, X would be printed, and it is not! #;3> (c) IN OUT And now c is not a procedure anymore, and a second invokation of c won't work! #;4> c ;; the REPL doesn't answer this, so there are no values returned #;5> (c) Error: call of non-procedure: #<unspecified> Call history: <syntax> (c) <eval> (c) <-- I was expecting that each invokation to (c) would do the same thing -- print IN, X, and OUT.     So I have a complex form for an IncomeDeclaration. Its going to display a textfield GrossIncome for each Activity that the IncomeDeclaration is related to... this all gets done on the server and works just fine.... the problem is. I just havent figured out a way to do this without ajax... right now I want to get the template to work and append the form elements to the bottom of the list.

    I have a queue of 1000 work items and a n-proc machine (assume n = 4).The main thread spawns n (=4) worker threads at a time ( 25 outer iterations) and waits for all threads to complete before processing the next n (=4) items until the entire queue is processed for(i= 0 to queue.Length / numprocs) for(j= 0 to numprocs) { CreateThread(WorkerThread,WorkItem) } WaitForMultipleObjects(threadHandle[]) The work done by each (worker) thread is not homogeneous.Therefore in 1 batch (of n) if thread 1 spends 1000 s doing work and rest of the 3 threads only 1 s , above design is inefficient,becaue after 1 sec other 3 processors are idling. Besides there is no pooling - 1000 distinct threads are being created How do I use the NT thread pool (I am not familiar enough- hence the long winded question) and QueueUserWorkitem to achieve the above. The following constraints should hold The main thread requires that all worker items are processed before it can proceed.So I would think that a waitall like construct above is required I want to create as many threads as processors (ie not 1000 threads at a time) Also I dont want to create 1000 distinct events, pass to the worker thread, and wait on all events using the QueueUserWorkitem API or otherwise Exisitng code is in C++.Prefer C++ because I dont know c# I suspect that the above is a very common pattern and was looking for input from you folks.

  • Help with a simple switch statement

    I need to find the value of a variable and use it to add a class to a div, based on a switch statement. For example, my variable is $link and if $link has google.com IN IT at all, I need $class to equal 'google', if $link as yahoo.com IN IT at all, $class then needs to equal 'yahoo' So, I need something like this, but I'm not sure how/or if to use preg_match or something to check and see if the $link variable has the value we are looking for in it - see 'case' text below: switch ($link) { case 'IF link has Google.com in it': $class = 'google'; break; case 'IF link has Yahoo.com in it': $class = 'yahoo'; break; default: # code... break; } OR if there is a better way to do this, please let me know :D Thanks

    Hey guys, I've been trying to cross-compile Spidermonkey and I am stuck with the problem wherein prtypes.h(NSPR) is unrecognizable. I alread triedy modifying Makefile.ref/config.mk/jsconfig.mk to point to a desired NSPR/DIS directory. I must have missed some basic steps because it still won't make things work. Do you have any ideas on how to properly modify the makefiles to point my spidermonkey to the right NSPR libraries? Thanks!

    How can i write a cloud-aware application? e.g. an application that takes benefit of being deployed on cloud. Is it same as an application that runs or a vps/dedicated server? if not then what are the differences? are there any design changes? What are the procedures that i need to take if i am to migrate an application to cloud-aware? Also i am about to implement a web application idea which would need features like security, performance, caching, and more importantly free. I have been comparing some frameworks and found that django has least RAM/CPU usage and works great in prefork+threaded mode, but i have also read that django based sites stop to respond with huge load of connections. Other frameworks that i have seen/know are Zend, CakePHP, Lithium/Cake3, CodeIgnitor, Symfony, Ruby on Rails.... So i would leave this to your opinion as well, suggest me a good free framework based on my needs. Finally thanks for reading the essay ;)
