• How to Get Current Weather via Web Services

  I am attempting to get the current weather given a zip code or a set of latitude/longitude coordinates. It appears that best practice to do this (and how NOAA does it) is to get the XML feed for a weather station. Example: http://www.weather.gov/xml/current_obs/KEDW.xml The only problem is that NOAA doesn't provide a good way to find the closest weather station given a zip code or coordinates and I did not see any hosted web services out there that will provide this mapping. Does anyone know of any web services to get the nearest weather station given a zip code or coordinate input? If not, does anyone have any great solutions to look into that provide similar information as NOAA does but takes in a zip code or coordinates?

  Hi, When one develops a self-hosted WCF http server, one of the steps needed is to bind an SSL certificate to a port number: httpcfg set ssl -i 0.0.0.0:8012 -h 0000000000003ed9cd0c315bbb6dc1c08da5e6 as stated in: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms733791.aspx However, It is hardly expected that in my deployment environment one would be able to do it. (I don't even know if the httpcfg.exe is redistributable) Moreover, if the user changed the port after he installed the product then he will need to run the command again.... how can this step be automated pro grammatically? preferably in C# but if it can only be done in C++ (direct access to the Http Server API) then I will manage :)

• Disable cache in Silverlight HttpWebRequest

  My Silverlight4 app is hosted in ASP.NET MVC 2 web application. I do web request through HttpWebRequest class but it gives back a result previously cached. How to disable this caching behavior? There are some links which talks about HttpWebRequest in .NET but Silverlight HttpWebrequest is different. Someone suggested to add unique dummy query string on every web request, but I'd prefer more elegant solution. I also tried the following, but it didn't work: _myHttpWebRequest.BeginGetRequestStream(new AsyncCallback(BeginRequest), new Guid()); In fact, by setting browser history settings it is possible to disable caching. • App Engine Authentication Error

  I have an app hosted by google app engine, and I am having trouble with authentication. When I login using my admin account and try to access the admin page or members pages, I just get a blank screen. I can login, and the members only menu shows when I login, but I just can't see any data from the members pages. I'm not really sure where I should start checking? My app is registered with my google apps account and I am using the only admin login that is there. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

• Randomly getting a 500 error on my website

  I am randomly getting a 500 error on my websites, all of which are hosted on a shared server. It won't happen all the time, just randomly when I will refresh the page I will get a 500 error. It usually will come back after I refresh a few times. I've been reading about it and have heard that .htaccess files can cause this... I did recently start using an .htaccess file to tell my server to start using php 5. I got the code straight from the hosting company that I am with. This is what is in the .htaccess file: AddType x-mapp-php5 .php If anyone has any ideas as to what would be causing this, that would really help. Thanks!

• Online Perforce Repositories

  Is anyone aware of of anybody offering hosted perforce servers? It doesn't have to be free - but preferably not too expensive! My understanding of Perforce is that it's free to use for personal projects, which mine is. Currently I have a perforce server setup on the same machine as the code is on which doesn't offer much security in case of computer failure. If not, can anyone recommend one of the alternative solutions that is similar to Perforce? I have experience of SVN but cannot say I enjoy the experience.

  I might be wrong on this, but I no longer see heavy Business and Web services being hosted using J2ee technologies (Especially EJBs). Having known the power and scalability of J2ee applications, what is keeping developers/decision makers to restrict themselves to Core Java (POJOs) or even other web technologies like PHP, python. Is it the development time? Is it the Ease of configuration? (I feel this should not be a strong reason with Java EE 6, things are simplified) Of course scripting languages are faster to develop, we cannot ignore the fact that they are inherently not-as-scalable as Java Applications are (using App servers)

• Git fails when pushing commit to github

  I cloned a git repo that I have hosted on github to my laptop. I was able to successfully push a couple of commits to github without problem. However, now I get the following error: Compressing objects: 100% (792/792), done. error: RPC failed; result=22, HTTP code = 411 Writing objects: 100% (1148/1148), 18.79 MiB | 13.81 MiB/s, done. Total 1148 (delta 356), reused 944 (delta 214) From here it just hangs and I finally have to ^C back to the terminal.

• Acordex Image viewer throws out of memory exception in CITRIX environment

  We have a .net 2.0 application. In the .aspx page we are calling the java applet using . This applet is calling the Acordex Image viewer. In the production environment users are facing "out of memory" or "insufficient memory" issues when users try to open the image or magnify an image in Acordex viewer. Strangely when the users logout and login again they are able to see the same image without any errors. The website is hosted in a CITRIX environment. We have access to this environment but we are not able to reproduce this issue on the test servers or the local machines. We dont know what is causing this issue. What should we do to troubleshoot the issue? Do we have to increase the memory allotted to the users in CITRIX? The RAM is around 4 gb. • Workflow Foundation 4 WorkflowServiceHost Message Correlation

  I have 2 methods on a workflow service hosted in WorkflowServiceHost. The first method is called and starts the regular workflow sequence - talking to other web services, database work etc but on some occassions will pause and persist to db (as-in the delay activity) and wait for some human action to take place before continuing. I need my second method to be able to hook into this persisted workflow, change a local variable and then continuing processing. I have looked at message based correlation in workflow but can only seem to find examples where some kind of infinite while loop keeps the workflow instance active so that the second service method call can arrive whilst it's still running. Because my workflow instance will be delayed/persisted, the second service call doesn't seem to get anywhere (I can't have an infinite while loop keeping the workflow instance active). • Embed VLC player in GWT

  Hello, I want to embed a VLC player in my webapp build with Google's GWT. First I had a look at this page: http://wiki.videolan.org/GWT, which offers a nice solution but I add to implements all javascript functions calls (play, stop, fullscreen) with JSNI. Then I found gwt-player (hosted by Google code) which does all the job for me but the annoying part is that the project is not widely used (few posts each month on the project's group, not so many talks about it in blogs/forums...) Do you know another option to easly embed & control a VLC player in a GWT app ? My main goal is to play any video/audio file in a webapp and offer the user a fast/forward feature (set rate in VLC), is there any other player I could use ? I already had a look at Quicktime, Windows Media player & Flowplayer, none of them offers as much features as VLC. Thanks in advance & have a nice new year's eve. Chris

• CodeIgniter & Datamapper as frontend, Django Admin as backend, database tables inconsistent

  I created a database for a site i'm doing using Django as the admin backend. However because the server where the site is hosted on, won't be able to support Python, I find myself needing to do the front end in PHP and as such i've decided to use CodeIgniter along with Datamapper to map the models/relationship. However DataMapper requires the tables to be in a specific format for it to work, and Django maps its tables differently, using the App name as the prefix in the table. I've tried using the prefix & join_prefix vars in datamapper but still doesn't map them correctly. Has anyone used a combination of this? and if so how have the fixed the issue of db table names being inconsistent? Is there anything out there that i can use to make them work together?

• Maintain set of local commits working with git-svn

  I am using git to develop against a project hosted in subversion, using git-svn: git svn clone svn://project/ My general workflow has been to repeatedly edit-and-commit on the master branch, then commit to the svn repository via: git stash git svn dcommit git stash apply One of the local modifications that 'stash' command is preserving, that I don't want to commit to the svn repository, is a changed database connection string. What's the most convenient way to keep this local change without the extra 'stash' steps? I suspect that something like 'stash' or 'quilt' is what I'm looking for, but I'm still new enough to git that I think I'm missing some terminology that would lead to the exact incantation. Update: The only solution I found that seems to avoid the git stash + git-svn action + git stash apply series was to update the git-svn ref manually: (check in local-only change to 'master', then...) $ cat .git/refs/master > .git/refs/remote/git-svn $ git svn fetch (with at least one new SVN revision) And that leaves the local-only commit as a weird (probably unsafe) commit between two svn revisions.

I need to either: Pass the client's privileges through the windows service, through the WCF service and into the 3rd party data source, or... Limit who can call the windows service / WCF service to members of a particular AD group. Any suggestions on how I can do either of these tasks?

• 404 Error Hosting WCF Service via IIS 7.5 Shared Content

  We're attempting to host a WCF Service (.NET 3.5 SP1) using Shared Content on IIS 7.5. At the moment it's returning a 404 error. My assumption at this point is that WCF can not be hosted via a UNC path (See workaroundHosting WCF service in IIS6 using UNC). Steps I've taken: - Established a FullTrust to/with the UNC path. - The service works hosting it on a local disk. - A basic HTML page renders without issue from the UNC path. - A ASPX page renders without issue from the UNC path. - Explicitly set "Full Control" permissions to the user running the service. The reason for using Shared Content in IIS 7.5 to host this WCF Service, and several other websites, in a web farm. Using Shared Content avoids the need for file replication between the nodes in the farm. (Note we are also using Shared Configuration to support this environment.)

  We are currently in the process of solidifying a database change management process. We run MySql 5 running on RedHat 5. I have selected LiquiBase as the tool because it's open source and allows us to expand its functionality later if needed. It also seems to be one of the few free projects that are still active. Has anyone here had any experience using LiquiBase or other Db versioning tools? Company Background: We are an SaaS company providing a 7/24 hosted application. There are dozens of instances running different versions of the same database and we need a way to manage the deploy process as it's starting to get out of control. The databases have hundreds of tables and we typically do releases once every 3 months.

• Tomcat cookies not working via my ProxyPass VirtualHost

  Hi there. I'm having some issues with getting cookies to work when using a ProxyPass to redirect traffic on port 80 to a web-application hosted via Tomcat. My motivation for enabling cookies is to get rid of the "jsessionid=" parameter that is appended to the URLs. I've enabled cookies in my context.xml in META-INF/ for my web application. When I access the webapplication via http://url:8080/webapp it works as expected, the jsessionid parameter is not visible in the URL, instead it's stored in a cookie. When accessing my website via an apache2 virtualhost the cookies doesn't seem to work because now "jsessionid" is being appended to the URLs. How can I solve this issue? • Show a window from 32-bit NPAPI Plugin in 64-bit Safari

  I have an old NPAPI plugin for OS X that I'm trying to refit for use with Snow Leopard's version of Safari. My problem is that when I switch Safari to 64-bit mode, it changes the plugin environment to out of process mode (where plugins are hosted by a 32-bit WebKitPluginHost process). And now my toolbar palettes are not visible on screen, even though the NSPanels on which they are based think they are visible. The documentation says that bringing up windows is not recommended, but doesn't say its prohibited; is there something I can do to bring up my Windows?

  For my bachelor thesis I want to implement a shopping (price comparison) portal prototype based on XML Data. The main requirement is to get a very clear and customizable HTML template, which should be hosted by the customer on his own webserver. I'm not very sure if XSLT meets this requirements, as it generates a lot of xsl-related code. It is not easy to understand for people with little HTML skills. I have some experience with the PHP templating engine Smarty. The syntax is much better, but I'm not sure if it's a good idea to parse the XML data with PHP, as it is very complex. Which language should I choose for a web application with high complexity? XSLT or PHP?

• Receiving "MERGE" 200 OK error when committing using trac-post-commit-hook

  When running a commit with the trac-post-commit-hook I receive a MERGE 200 OK error, I understand that this means that the commit has succeeded on the server but the file status has not updated on my local machine. But I can't find anyway to fix this issue. Would this be a problem with my setup or something in the script. I'm using stock standard script from the trac site, I'm committing through tortoiseSVN to VisualSVN Server which is hosted on a windows 2008 server. When I run the script through a command line I receive no errors, I only receive this error through TortoiseSVN.

Like so: jQuery for my javascript framework. Instead of hosting it on my site, I use the Google CDN Google maps, obviously "offloaded" - no real work being performed on my server - Google hosted jQueryUI framework - Google CDN jQueryUI CSS framework - Google CDN jQueryUI CSS framework themes - Google CDN So what I'm asking is this, other than what I've got listed... What aspects of your sites have you been able to offload, or embed, from outside services? Couple others that come to mind... • Java webapp: adding a content-disposition header to force browsers "save as" behavior

  Even though it's not part of HTTP 1.1/RFC2616 webapps that wish to force a resource to be downloaded (rather than displayed) in a browser can use the Content-Disposition header like this: Content-Disposition: attachment; filename=FILENAME Even tough it's only defined in RFC2183 and not part of HTTP 1.1 it works in most web browsers as wanted. So from the client side, everything is good enough. However on the server-side, in my case, I've got a Java webapp and I don't know how I'm supposed to set that header, especially in the following case... I'll have a file (say called "bigfile") hosted on an Amazon S3 instance (my S3 bucket shall be accessible using a partial address like: files.mycompany.com/) so users will be able to access this file at files.mycompany.com/bigfile. Now is there a way to craft a servlet (or a .jsp) so that the Content-Disposition header is always added when the user wants to download that file? What would the code look like and what are the gotchas, if any?

• Consume a WebService with Integrated authentication from WPF windows application

  I have written a WPF windows application that consumes a .net WebService. This works fine when the web service in hosted to allow anonymous connections, however the WebService I need to consume when we go live will be held within a website that has Integrated Authentication enabled. The person running the WPF application will be logged onto a computer within the same domain as the web server and will have permission to see the WebService (without entering any auth info) if browsing to it using a web browser that is NTLM auth enabled. Is it possible to pass through the details of the already logged in user running the application to the WebService? • Remote iPhone / xCode application development?

  4 java developers are new to iPod Touch/iPhone app development. They have an idea for an app. They have never used Xcode or Macs before. Instead of spending money for a new iMac or Mac Mini for each of them, my boss would like to sell them a $999 Apple server, hosted at a facility connected a single T1 line, and have all 4 people work remotely in Xcode. Is this feasible? Is anyone doing anything like this? Specifically, is 1 T1 enough for realistic remote app development? Would they have to work in black & white via Logmein or Gotomeeting to get decent speed? Can four people work remotely together on an Xcode project at the same time? Do they absolutely need their own Macs to connect their iPod Touches or iPhones physically to, or can they connect to their existing PCs with iTunes and install their in-development apps that way?

• WCF - Disabling security in nettcpbinding (c#)

  Hello everyone. I'm trying to make a self hosted WCF app that uses nettcpbinding but works in an environment without a domain. It's just two regular windows pc's, one is the server and the other one will be the client. The problem with this is that when I try to get the client to connect it's rejected because of the security settings. Can you please point me in the right direction as to how I can get this scenario to work? Should I (if possible) disable security? Is there another (hopefully simple) way to accomplish this?
