  • Why is my Android emulator keyboard in Japanese character mode?

    - by mckoss
I'm debugging my Android application using the AVD (Android Virtual Device). When I try to enter text in a text field, my characters are being interpreted as Japanese (or Chinese?) in the IME. I don't know how I got into this mode or how to get out of it (I just want to enter alphabetic keys)? Here's a screen shot: http://u.go2.me/3cn

  • Keymap issues with NX from Mac OS X Lion

    - by Andy
I tried to answer the question from Mark: Keymap issues with NX from Mac OS X Lion to Ubuntu However, it is locked so I figured I would post a new question / answer. I have been trying to answer this for a few days now because I have no issues when connecting through NX Client (technically OpenNX) to FreeNX server from an iMac (with Lion), but if I try to connect with a Macbook Pro I get horrible keyboard binding issues. The fix that is working for me is to go into: ~/.nx/config/HOST.nxs and change: <option key="Current keyboard" value="false"/> <option key="Custom keyboard layout" value="empty"/> <option key="Grab keyboard" value="false"/> I have tried this on three NX Servers and all are fixed. Hope it helps or gets you closer. Always check in the ~/.nx/temp/ for the sshlog and see if --keyboard="empty/empty" instead of "pc105/en" because the Mac is really pc104. 9:05:35: startsession --session="HOST" --type="unix-gnome" --cache="8M" --images="32M" --link="adsl" --geometry="2556\ x1396" --screeninfo="2560x1440x32+render" --keyboard="empty/empty" --backingstore="1" --encryption="1" --composite="1" --\ shmem="1" --shpix="1" --streaming="1" --samba="0" --cups="0" --nodelay="1" --defer="0" --client="macosx" --media="0" --st\ rict="0" --aux="1"

  • XNA Vector2 Rotation Question

    - by Tom Allen
I'm messing about with some stuff in XNA and am trying to move an object around asteroids-style in that you press left and right to rotate and up/down to go forwards and backwards in the direction you are pointing. I've got the rotation of the sprite done, but i can't get the object to move in the direction you've pointed it, it always moves up and down on the x = 0 axis. I'm guessing this is straight forward but I just can't figure it out. My "ship" class has the following properties which are note worthy here: Vector2 Position float Rotation The "ship" class has an update method is where the input is handled and so far I've got the following: public void Update(GameTime gameTime) { KeyboardState keyboard = Keyboard.GetState(); GamePadState gamePad = GamePad.GetState(PlayerIndex.One); float x = Position.X; float y = Position.Y; if (keyboard.IsKeyDown(Keys.Left)) Rotation -= 0.1f; if (keyboard.IsKeyDown(Keys.Right)) Rotation += 0.1f; if (keyboard.IsKeyDown(Keys.Up)) y -= ??; if (keyboard.IsKeyDown(Keys.Down)) y += ??; this.Position = new Vector2(x, y); } Any help would be most appreciated!

  • Calling a WPF Application and modify exposed properties?

    - by Justin
I have a WPF Keyboard Application, it is developed in such a way that an application could call it and modify its properties to adapt the Keyboard to do what it needs to. Right now I have a file *.Keys.Set which tells the application (on open) to style itself according to that new style. I know this file could be passed as a command line argument into the application. That would not be a problem. My concern is, is there a way via a managed environment to change the properties of the executable as long as they are exposed properly, an example: 'Creates a new instance of the Keyboard Application Dim e_key as new WpfApplication("C:\egt\components\keyboard.exe") 'Sets the style path e_key.SetStylePath("c:\users\joe\apps\me\default.keys.set") e_key.Refresh() 'Applies the style e_key.HideMenu() 'Hides the menu e_key.ShowDeck("PIN") 'Shows the custom "deck" of keyboard keys the developer 'Created in the style application. ''work with events and response 'Clear the instance from memory e_key.close e_key.dispose e_key = nothing This would allow my application to become easily accessible to other Touch Screen Application Developers, allowing them to use my keyboard and keep the functionality they need. It seems like it might be possible because (name of executable).application shows all the exposed functions, properties, and values. I just have never done this before. Any help would be appreciated, thank you in advance.

  • I Choose iNada

    - by Mark Treadwell
As a laptop and Kindle user, I have been looking at the usual cyclical Apple frenzy in the press with the same kind of amused tolerance I give my three-year-old son.  They never seem to learn, and they keep repeating the same things.  However when I ready articles like this, I am reminded that that is not always the case. I am a happy user of a monster-sized HP HDX laptop, HP touch screen all-in-one system, and multi-screen Dell desktops at home as well as a HP business laptop at work.  I have no iPod, iMac, iTouch or any other relationship with the company who wants to trademark the prefix “i”. I have not missed them. That is not to say that I have no technological gadgets.  I do.  They just do not dominate Every company wants to preserve their customer base, but Apple just does it too rigidly.  The buy-in necessary rubs me wrong.  When the fanboys scream about the next great iApple thing which will kill off another market segment (this time, the iPad will kill off laptops), the amused tolerance returns. From what I have seen, the iPad virtual keyboard is a poor substitute for an actual keyboard.  It was intended to let you get some kind of text into a device that is not really intended for keyboard input, but rather for touch manipulation of a designed interface.  I like the virtual keyboard on my LG Dare cell phone, but you will not catch me writing my next novel with it.  But, you hear, you can connect a real keyboard and get info from another computer.  That is when you realize that the iPad is not a true standalone device like a laptop.  You have to make more hardware purchases to get what you truly want.  It is an expensive accommodation to get you a different form of freedom. So if Apple made a product with me in mind, you can have it.  Everyone gets to make their own choice.  My choice is the iNada.

  • Running a program on boot without login, using the screen

    - by configurator
Preface: I have a server running on an old laptop. The screen is always on with a login prompt, but because its keyboard is in pretty bad shape, I use it exclusively via ssh. The screen is in a good position, though; I want to use it to display a clock and some stats about what my server is doing. I have scripts to display all those things, but I want to always show them on the monitor screen. My question is, how do I get my script (called HUD) to run on /dev/tty1, instead of the login prompt. Hopefully, it should be possible to accept keyboard input as well as display its output, so that it can use the keyboard to show more info where needed in a future version. I'd also like tty2 etc. to remain active as login screens, in face I actually do need to login locally. For a start, I tried creating a script that I can run from ssh to start the HUD. It goes something like this: ( flock -n 9 watch --interval 0.2 --precise --color --notitle --exec /path/to/script & disown ) 9> /var/lock/hud > /dev/tty1 2> /dev/tty1 < /dev/tty1 (I had to use & disown instead of nohup because nohup recognized the tty and redirects output to nohup.out instead.) This sort-of works. However, it has a few issues: It doesn't steal the terminal's keyboard input, so you can't ctrl+c to get out of it (nor change the script to actually use the keyboard input), and if you press enter it show it and scrolls the display, never refreshing it correctly afterwards. Oddly, if I disconnect the ssh session which created it, it stops working and shows a message: exec: No such file or directory. If I reconnect to ssh, it resumes functioning properly. It feels hackish. Is there a better way to do this? How?

  • Ubuntu 9.10 RSA authentication: ssh fails, filezilla runs fine

    - by MariusPontmercy
This is quite a mistery for me. I usually use passwordless RSA authentication to login into my remote *nix servers with ssh and sftp. Never had any problem until now. I cannot connect to an Ubuntu 9.10 machine: user@myclient$ ssh -i .ssh/Ganymede_key [email protected] [...] debug1: Host 'ganymede.server.com' is known and matches the RSA host key. debug1: Found key in /home/user/.ssh/known_hosts:14 debug2: bits set: 494/1024 debug1: ssh_rsa_verify: signature correct debug2: kex_derive_keys debug2: set_newkeys: mode 1 debug1: SSH2_MSG_NEWKEYS sent debug1: expecting SSH2_MSG_NEWKEYS debug2: set_newkeys: mode 0 debug1: SSH2_MSG_NEWKEYS received debug1: SSH2_MSG_SERVICE_REQUEST sent debug2: service_accept: ssh-userauth debug1: SSH2_MSG_SERVICE_ACCEPT received debug2: key: .ssh/Ganymede_key (0xb96a0ef8) debug2: key: .ssh/Ganymede_key ((nil)) debug1: Authentications that can continue: publickey,password,keyboard-interactive debug1: Next authentication method: publickey debug1: Offering public key: .ssh/Ganymede_key debug2: we sent a publickey packet, wait for reply debug1: Authentications that can continue: publickey,password,keyboard-interactive debug1: Trying private key: .ssh/Ganymede_key debug1: read PEM private key done: type RSA debug2: we sent a publickey packet, wait for reply debug1: Authentications that can continue: publickey,password,keyboard-interactive debug2: we did not send a packet, disable method debug1: Next authentication method: keyboard-interactive debug2: userauth_kbdint debug2: we sent a keyboard-interactive packet, wait for reply debug2: input_userauth_info_req debug2: input_userauth_info_req: num_prompts 1 Then it falls back to password authentication. If I disable password authentication on the remote machine my connection attempt just fails with a "Permission denied (publickey)." state. Same thing for sftp from command line. • KVM recommendations

    - by alex
I recently tried out a cheaper KVM solution, a dual monitor one with a USB hub and audio/mic support. It seemed the perfect KVM. However, these are my experiences. When using my keyboard via the PS/2 connection, none of my multimedia keys work (useful, because it has a volume control and my speakers do not, only on a wireless remote control.) I plugged the keyboard in via the USB port - and it seemed to work. However, I believe to switch the hub from PC to Mac, you need to use a keyboard combo, which is only supported when the keyboard is plugged in via PS/2 Sometimes the middle mouse button doesn't work when connected via PS/2. The multi monitor is VGA - I just found out by the looks of things my Mac Mini outputs DVI Digital only (though this is my fault!). Mac works with 2 screens, but switching and switching back can cause it not to display on the 2nd screen unless I go detect displays again. My question is - is there a KVM out there that supports these features? USB keyboard and mouse inputs will full multimedia keys support Dual monitor DVI connections Hotkey to change PCs and physical button USB hub Emulate screens attached when switching to a different computer Works with PC and Mac Audio / Microphone support Does one exist, that won't cost the world? So far the only one that seems to support all this (that I can tell) is this one. UPDATE I ended up buying the Aten CS1642. It's expensive, but it seems to work great!

  • KVM Switch for multiple monitors possible?

    - by jasondavis
I have been curious about this for YEARS! I have never used a KVM switch (keyboard, mouse, monitor) switch to allow you to use 1 keyboard, mouse, monitor to operate 2 or more computers however I understand the concept and what they are for, just never really had a huge need for 1 until now. Here is my issue though. If possible I need to have a KVM switch hooked up to 2 computers in my room. The catch, I have 2-3 monitors on the PC, so I am looking for a way to have a KVM switch that will support multiple monitors. So PC #1 can be using a mouse, keyboard, 2-3 monitors like normal. I then hit the switch and it makes my mouse, keyboard, and 2-3 monitors switch to PC #2. Has anyone ever heard of a KVM switch being able to support multiple monitors like I described? Or how I can achieve this goal? Please help.

  • How to stop blanking screen although I am active on Ubuntu Karmic on old IBM Laptop

    - by Glen S. Dalton
How to stop blanking screen although I am active on Ubuntu Karmic on old IBM Laptop 600E? After some time of working on the machine the screen goes blank. When I hit ESC on the built-in keyboard (not on the attached USB keyboard where I work) it comes back and everything works fine until the next screen-blanking. I suspect it is some power management issue. When I use an old keyboard that has a ps2 connector it does not happen. So my guess is that the usb keyboard does not update the power management timer that detects when the session was last used? I am using fluxbox window manager. I do not want to disable power management because it is nice that the fan only works at the necessary speed (the fan spped is regulated which I can hear) But I could disable power management for testing purposes.

  • How can I practice with a full set of characters in KTouch?

    - by Josh
I originally used KTouch to learn Qwerty touch typing, but found it too stressful on the hands. Hearing about Dvorak, I decided I'd switch to that (still using a Qwerty keyboard, but with the keys mapped differently). Since the keyboard is physically displaying a Qwerty layout, I cannot look at the keyboard for hints, making it very hard to type characters that I am unfamiliar with. Unfortunately, KTouch only covers letters, not punctuation and other symbols. Where can I find a lecture that covers all, or most of, the characters on a keyboard?

  • LWJGL SlickUtil Texture Binding

    - by Matthew Dockerty
I am making a 3D game using LWJGL and I have a texture class with static variables so that I only need to load textures once, even if I need to use them more than once. I am using Slick Util for this. When I bind a texture it works fine, but then when I try to render something else after I have rendered the model with the texture, the texture is still being bound. How do I unbind the texture and set the rendermode to the one that was in use before any textures were bound? Some of my code is below. The problem I am having is the player texture is being used in the box drawn around the player after it the model has been rendered. Model.java public class Model { public List<Vector3f> vertices = new ArrayList<Vector3f>(); public List<Vector3f> normals = new ArrayList<Vector3f>(); public ArrayList<Vector2f> textureCoords = new ArrayList<Vector2f>(); • iOS 5: Enable Android Style Auto Correction Feature With A Simple Trick

    - by Gopinath
Apple generally don’t let its users to play with their devices, but seems to be these days there are few things slipping through the nets. Smart users are able find some hacks and enable new features on iOS devices! Few days ago we heard about the hidden panorama feature built into iOS 5 and it could be enabled on a jail broken device. Here come another hidden feature unearthed by a smart geek in iOS 5 : enable Android style auto-correction on on-screen keyboard. Luckily to enable this feature you don’t need to jailbreak, all you need to do is to take backup of your device, edit a file and restore it back. Boom!  That’s it. To enable auto corrections feature on the on-screen keyboard of iOS 5 follow these steps Download iBackupBot and install it on your machine. It’s works on both Windows and Mac OS X. Backup your iPhone, iPod, or iPad with iTunes – plug in your iOS device and sync it. Open iBackupBot, locate your most recent backup and click on it Scroll down to Library/Preferences/com.apple.keyboard.plist and double-click on it.   Replace everything between the two <dict> with the following <key>KeyboardAutocorrectionLists</key> <string>YES</string> Save the plist file, then hit the "Restore From Backup" button in iBackupbot. Reboot your device to see the auto correction feature in action on your device’s on-screen keyboard. via lifehacker This article titled,iOS 5: Enable Android Style Auto Correction Feature With A Simple Trick, was originally published at Tech Dreams. • OpenGL camera moves faster than player

    - by opiop65
I have a side scroller game made in OpenGL, and I'm trying to center the player in the viewport when he moves. I know how to do it: cameraX = Width / 2 / TileSize - playerPosX cameraY = Height / 2 / TileSize - playerPosY However, I have a problem. The player and "camera" move, but the player moves faster than the "camera" scrolls. So, the player can actually move out of the screen. Some code, this is how I translate the camera: public Camera(){ } public void update(Player p){ glTranslatef(-p.getPos().x - Main.WIDTH / 64 / 2, -p.getPos().y - Main.HEIGHT / 64 / 2, 1); } Here's how I move the player: public void update(){ if(Keyboard.isKeyDown(Keyboard.KEY_D)){ this.move(MOVESPEED, 0); } if(Keyboard.isKeyDown(Keyboard.KEY_A)){ this.move(-MOVESPEED, 0); } } The move method: public void move(float x, float y){ this.getPos().set(this.getPos().x + x, this.getPos().y + y); } And then after I move the player, I update the player's geometry, which shouldn't matter. What am I doing wrong here, this seems like such a simple problem, yet it doesn't work!

  • Moving my sprite in XNA using classes

    - by Tom
Hey, im a newbie at this programming lark and its really frustrating me. I'm trying to move a snake in all directions while using classes. Ive created a vector2 for speed and ive attempted creating a method which moves the snake within the snake class. Now I'm confused and not sure what to do next. Appreciate any help. Thanks :D This is what i've done in terms of the method... public Vector2 direction() { Vector2 inputDirection = Vector2.Zero; if (Keyboard.GetState().IsKeyDown(Keys.Left)) inputDirection.X -= -1; if (Keyboard.GetState().IsKeyDown(Keys.Right)) inputDirection.X += 1; if (Keyboard.GetState().IsKeyDown(Keys.Up)) inputDirection.Y -= -1; if (Keyboard.GetState().IsKeyDown(Keys.Down)) inputDirection.Y += 1; return inputDirection * snakeSpeed; } Appreciate any help. Thanks :D EDIT: Well let me make everything clear. Im making a small basic game for an assignment. The game is similar to the old snake game on the old Nokia phones. I've created a snake class (even though I'm not sure whether this is needed because im only going to be having one moving sprite within the game). After I written the code above (in the snake class), the game ran with no errors but I couldn't actually move the image :( EDIT2: Thanks so much for everyones responses!!

  • How can I get run Ubuntu Desktop on my Galaxy Nexus?

    - by Jack Senechal
On the Ubuntu for phones site it advertises the desktop view feature: "The phone becomes a full PC and thin client when docked.". And there's the demo by Canonical of something similar running under Ubuntu for Android. I realize they're different systems, but the end effect is in both is to have a full Ubuntu system running on the phone. I've installed Ubuntu Touch Preview on my Galaxy Nexus (toro), and it's working as expected (no cellular signal, but wifi works, etc). But when I plug in a monitor via HDMI it just mirrors the phone's touch display. There's also currently no bluetooth support for attaching keyboard and mouse. Keyboard only kind of works via USB, and mouse not at all. I've also tried running Ubuntu under Android via VNC, but the lack of responsiveness of VNC makes it impractical for daily use. I'd consider that route again if there is some way to make the UI more responsive. So the question is, how can set up my phone to run Ubuntu Desktop in a way that's useable as a laptop replacement? Is there a way to enable Desktop View on Ubuntu Touch? Or can I run Ubuntu for Android as in the previously referenced demo? Plugging into a monitor would be OK, but I'd love to be able to use the desktop interface with mouse and keyboard through the phone's screen as well. Touch input and an onscreen keyboard would be a plus but is definitely not necessary.
