• hyper-v fails when attaching more disk to VM. The VM won't start and generates an error

  I'm lost at what to do about this: Hi... System: Windows 2008 R2 Hyper-V farm running with failover cluster with a EVA 4400 as backend. When I attach a new disk to a VM it fails when I try to start it. If I move the VM to another, say node 1, I can add the disk and I can get them to start. If I move the VM back to node 2 where the problem arose and the VM is running, I get an error during live migration and the VM fails back to node1 where it did run... So it's like there is something wrong with Hyper-V on node 2 and not node 1. Also node 3 has the same issue. Restarting the nodes is NOT an option since I will have this problem again at a later time AND because not all the VMs can run on node 1 which means my client company will experience downtime on the VMs not running on node 1. • DPM 2010 RC Mailbox Recovery Fails

  I am testing DPM 2010 with Exchange 2010. I am attempting to restore a single mailbox from a previous backup to a Recovery Database. I created and mounting the Recovery Database on the Exchange 2010 server and set the overwrite property. When I run the restore for the mailbox and point it to the recovery databse I get the following error. The recovery jobs for Exchange Mailbox Database MailboxDatabase01 that started at with the destination of EXCHANGE2010.domain.com, have completed. Most or all jobs failed to recover the requested data. (ID 3111) DPM encountered an error while performaing an operation for E:\DatabaseFiles\MailboxDatabase01.edb on EXCHANGE2010.domain.com (ID 2033 Details: The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process (0x80070020)) MailboxDatabase01 is one of our MDBs and not the RDB I setup for the recovery. I am confused why it is even trying to access this as I have triple checked that the recovery is pointed to the RDB. Any idea what I am doing wrong?

• Lost Internet access in Windows XP Mode virtual pc under Windows 7

  In my office, I created and configured a virtual pc in Windows XP Mode. Everything was working fine. Now I'm on the road, and my Internet access (in the host operation system) is either via a hotel wifi or through my Verizon air card. Either way, I've lost Internet access in the virtual pc. I went into the Virtual PC settings, and set the Networking value to Shared Networking (NAT). Actually, I've tried every combination I can find, but I can't get from the virtual pc to the web. I'm hoping to use the virtual box at a client site, so I really need that access. Is there anything I can do to get it back? Thanks for any help.

  Actually i have a little brain bender and and just can't find the right direction to get it to work: Given is an IList<IDictionary<string, double>> and it is filled as followed: Name|Value ----+----- "x" | 3.8 "y" | 4.2 "z" | 1.5 ----+----- "x" | 7.2 "y" | 2.9 "z" | 1.3 ----+----- ... | ... To fill this up with some random data i used the following methods: var list = CreateRandomPoints(new string[] { "x", "y", "z" }, 20); This will work as followed: private IList<IDictionary<string, double>> CreateRandomPoints(string[] variableNames, int count) { var list = new List<IDictionary<string, double>>(count); list.AddRange(CreateRandomPoints(variableNames).Take(count)); return list; } private IEnumerable<IDictionary<string, double>> CreateRandomPoints(string[] variableNames) { while (true) yield return CreateRandomLine(variableNames); } private IDictionary<string, double> CreateRandomLine(string[] variableNames) { var dict = new Dictionary<string, double>(variableNames.Length); foreach (var variable in variableNames) { dict.Add(variable, _Rand.NextDouble() * 10); } return dict; } Also i can say that it is already ensured that every Dictionary within the list contains the same keys (but from list to list the names and count of the keys can change). So that's what i got. Now to the things i need: I'd like to get the median (or any other math aggregate operation) of each Key within all the dictionaries, so that my function to call would look something like: IDictionary<string, double> GetMedianOfRows(this IList<IDictionary<string, double>> list) The best would be to give some kind of aggregate operation as a parameter to the function to make it more generic (don't know if the func has the correct parameters, but should imagine what i'd like to do): private IDictionary<string, double> Aggregate(this IList<IDictionary<string, double>> list, Func<IEnumerable<double>, double> aggregator) Also my actual biggest problem is to do the job with a single iteration over the list, cause if within the list are 20 variables with 1000 values i don't like to iterate 20 times over the list. Instead i would go one time over the list and compute all twenty variables at once (The biggest advantage of doing it that way would be to use this also as IEnumerable<T> on any part of the list in a later step).   Specs for Samsung N120 Netbook Atom N270 @ 1.60 GHz / 160 GB IDE HDD / 2 GB PC2-5300 DDR2 RAM / Windows XP Home SP3 So I'm still getting some atapi errors in my Event Viewer. Here are two atapi errors I am getting over and over again: (1) The device, \Device\Ide\IdePort0, did not respond within the timeout period. (2) The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Ide\IdePort0. In addition, I am repeatedly getting this warning as well: (1) An error was detected on device \Device\Harddisk0\D during a paging operation. I just got this back from repair, where before, I couldn't boot at all because I was led to a black screen saying "Operating System Not Found". Still, I got it back and it can boot again, without any hard drive replacement or data loss. So, how can I get rid of these errors and warnings? What could have happened during repairs to allow my netbook to boot again? Thanks in advance.

• After installing Apache, PHP and MySQL I can't add extension to php.ini without Apache error

  Hello! I have Windows XP OS. Installed Apache 2.2.14, then PHP 5.2.12 (tested with phpinfo.php - IT'S WORKS!) Then I installed MySQL 5.1. And now, when I add extension = php_mysql.dll to php.ini and restart server, Apache tells me that he can't start (small window with "The requested operation has failed"). Even if I add only extension = *smth*.dll --- the same thing. Apache just don't love my extensions. How to prove him, that they are cool and stuff? Thanks.

  We are moving a production site to EC2/RDS Followed these instructions: http://geehwan.posterous.com/moving-a-production-mysql-database-to-amazon I have set up row-based binary logging on the production server did a: mysqldump --single-transaction --master-data=2 -C -q -u root -p backup.sql then imported to RDS instance. No dramas. Due to the size of the db, and minimal downtime requirements, I've got to update the ec2 db to the latest datas via the binlogs, and it won't let me. mysqlbinlog mysql-bin.000004 --start-position=360812488 | mysql -uroot -p -h and it says: ERROR 1227 (42000) at line 6: Access denied; you need (at least one of) the SUPER privilege(s) for this operation My guess, based on what is on line 6 of the binlog, is that it's the 'write to the BINLOG' statements in the SQL backup, and because RDS doesn't support this, it can't run these statements, or something, I don't really know. Please help.

The body must not contain a private key. mycert.pem is a combination of private.pem and signedkey.pem (which return by VeriSign) copy private.pem+signedkey.pem mycert.pem Please help to shed a light.   My linux host connected to SAN with FC interface. It connect with one path, and see some luns, that can't access, because they need anohter path, not available to host. On boot linux probe all lun he can see, get read error on unaccessible luns, and hangs there for a long-long time. Is there a way to disable any access to some luns at boot time, and later? I found a filters for device ignoration for LVM and MULTIPATH, but it not help during boot process. Generally, lvm still affected too despite of filter, and gives me a IO error on every operation like lvdisplay and vgdisplay, but this is another question.

• What is meant by "streaming data access" in HDFS?

  According to the HDFS Architecture page HDFS was designed for "streaming data access". I'm not sure what that means exactly, but would guess it means an operation like seek is either disabled or has sub-optimal performance. Would this be correct? I'm interested in using HDFS for storing audio/video files that need to be streamed to browser clients. Most of the streams will be start to finish, but some could have a high number of seeks. Maybe there is another file system that could do this better?

  I have a Windows Server 2008 R2 box running IIS7.5 with Medium Trust configured for ASP.NET. When I have the website running from local content (e.g.: c:\inetpub\wwwroot) everything works fine. When I change IIS to use a UNC path for the content (e.g.: \\computer\wwwroot) I get the following error: Security Exception Description: The application attempted to perform an operation not allowed by the security policy. To grant this application the required permission please contact your system administrator or change the application's trust level in the configuration file. Exception Details: System.Security.SecurityException: Request for the permission of type 'System.Data.SqlClient.SqlClientPermission, System.Data, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' failed. I'm trying to figure out why ASP.NET/IIS would allow for the SQL call when using local content but not when using a UNC path. Any ideas what I need to do to use a UNC path from IIS7 properly?

• Suddenly unable to export to war file from exclipse

  I been working on this Servlet project all morning and now suddenly I cannot get eclipse to export the project to a war file. I tried restarting eclipse and cleaning the project but I just get the same result. • How to reduce timeout for bad password on disconnected laptop?

  I use a Windows 7 laptop computer. When not attached to my AD domain, if I enter an incorrect password, I have to wait approximately a full minute before the failure response comes back. When attached to the domain, the response is instant. I think that what's happening is that is that when my entry fails against the cached pw, Windows tries to reach the domain controller and the timeout for that operation is about 60s. Is there a registry entry that controls the timeout? I'd love to reduce it.

• Mercurial SSH process blocks when run from Local System

  We are using Mercurial over SSH for our development. We use Hudson for continous integration, and have deployed it on Tomcat, running on a Windows 2003 Server using the Local System account. Mercurial is configured to use Putty's plink.exe as its ssh command in Mercurial.ini, together with a private key for SSH authentication. When Hudson attempts any Mercurial command over SSH, the operation just blocks. I can see the three processes being started: hg.exe, cmd.exe and plink.exe. On the remote machine, I can also see the SSH session being opened and the authentication key being accepted. After that, nothing appears to happen, and everything just blocks, seemingly forever. (As a side note, subversion/SVN over SSH works from Hudson to the same server, using the same user and authentication key). A solution would of course be the best, but at least a hint for how I should debug it to get further would be nice, since I'm stuck and haven't even got an error message right now.

• Files Corrupted on System Restore

  I restored my OSX today by copying the system over from a backup. Most things seem to be working, but every single GIT repo gives pretty much the same error fatal: object 03b45161eb27228914e690e032ca8009358e9588 is corrupted I have tried chowning, doing everything as sudo or root... I have no idea what to try next. This would be a normal git question except that it's on many repos. Ideas? Note: I'm using git 1.7.0.3 and I was probably using 1.7.0 before. Edit: Tried with 1.7.0.2 and it made no difference. Edit: Even when copying any of the repos I get this strange message cp: .git/objects/fe/86b676974a44aa7f128a55bf27670f4a1073ca: could not copy extended attributes to /eraseme/Pickers/.git/objects/fe/86b676974a44aa7f128a55bf27670f4a1073ca: Operation not permitted

  The user has RX privs. This event consistently arises in the security logs. How can this be resolved? Or what is the underlying issue here? Some additional information the user has local login disabled and log on as a service enabled.   This is a double question, I just hope it's valid. I need to know how to use dd to make splitted ISO images from some storage device, I'm doing it through SSH: the process is slow and the risk of faling at the mid of the operation (1) is high then I need to know how to make these splitted ISO images from my storage device. (2) I'm searching for some reference on dd, it could be a book or a good website about it for when any doubt arises. 1 - I'm doing it on a ~60GB storage device, it took me a whole day to copy ~10GB from this disk. 2 - For curious people, I'm trying to recover an accidentaly deleted file from an iPod, until now I've been able to make the whole process, I just need to improve it beucase I left it copying the disk yesterday: Today it gave me an error when it was at ~10GB.

But we pass the slave address again when performing read/write using ioctl I2C_RDWR via addr in the structure i2c_msg. • IIS7 500 error if form is submitted more than 120 seconds after it was originally loaded

  Summary: When I submit a form (via POST) to php more than 120 seconds after the form was first called I get a 500 server error. If I submit before 120 seconds, the form works fine. I'm obviously encountering some kind of timeout but I don't know where to look. I've enabled failed request tracing and received the following error: ModuleName="FastCgiModule", Notification="EXECUTE_REQUEST_HANDLER", HttpStatus="500", HttpReason="Internal Server Error", HttpSubStatus="0", ErrorCode="The I/O operation has been aborted because of either a thread exit or an application request. (0x800703e3)", ConfigExceptionInfo="" I don't understand why it matters when the form is submitted relative to the time the form is first rendered (note: the actual form processing takes a fraction of a second). • Can't copy files with 'additional permissions' to ext4 drive -- files that have @ after permissions,

  I am copying files from Snow Leopard to a mounted ext4 share via Samba, that's on a Fedora machine. Some files cannot be copied, and give this error: The operation can’t be completed because you don’t have permission to access some of the items. I've noticed that the files that can't be copied have an @ at the end of their permissions whien I do 'ls -l' in the command line. For example, I can copy the second file but not the first: -rwxrwxrwx@ 1 miles staff 1448 May 14 22:55 test.txt -rw-r--r-- 1 miles staff 136 Apr 5 17:06 image.psd.zip From what I've found, the @ means the file has 'additional properties'. Does anyone know how I can resolve this issue so I can copy the files to the fileshare?? Thanks!

• Perforce Restore From Multiple Checkpoint Files?

  Hi all, I am working with a very large (~11GB) checkpoint file and trying to do a -jr (journal restore) operation. About half way through the file, I'm hitting an entry which causes an error to occur. I'm unable to come up with a conventional way to print, edit, and save changes to the offending line. So right now I'm splitting the checkpoint into files of 500k lines each...up to 47 files and counting. My question is, once I have these separate files: Can I run journal restore on each one separately to check for errors? Once fixed, is it necessary to merge them back together again to do my full journal restore? Any other ideas on how to tackle this problem would be appreciated. Thanks in advance, -aj

  I have a computer which had AVG Free installed from day one. After several months of operation, it starts detecting viruses and trojans all the time. Besides running a full scan, what should I do to clean the computer? Should I install another anti-virus or anti-malware tool (can it help?), or once viruses infect a system the only real solution is a clean format? (Lately I've heard of viruses that burn themselves in the BIOS, so a clean format might not always work ... how common is this technique? Should I burn a fresh BIOS as well?)

• BAD DC transfering FSMO Roles to ADC

  I have a DC (FQDN:server.icmcpk.local) and an ADC (FQDN:file-server.icmcpk.local). Recently my DC is facing a bad sector problem so I changed the Operation Masters to file-server for all five roles. but when ever i turn off the OLD DC the file-server also stops wroking with AD and GPMC further i m also unable to join any other computer to this domain. For Test purpose i also added a new ADC (FQDN:wds-server.icmcpk.local) but no succes with the old DC off i had to turn the old DC on and then joined it. I m attaching the Dcdiags for all three servers.
