• What are the licensing differences between Windows 8 Professional x64 fqc-05955 and fqc-05956?

  If I do a search for Windows 8 Professional x64 in my country, the only version I can find is having the code fqc-05955 and is labeled OEM. If I perform same search on amazon.com, the only version I can find is having the code fqc-05956 and is labeled System Builder. There's not much information about licensing of Windows 8 that I could find. According to this article when using System Builder it can be transferred from one computer to another. What are the differences in licensing between those 2? Is fqc-05955 transferable from one hardware to another like System Builder is? Can I install fqc-05955 on a computer I already own that has no prior windows licensing? I am asking this, since many stores that sell fqc-05955 say it can only be bough with a computer. • Riak "error":"insufficient_vnodes_available"

  We have 4 nodes Riak installation. They are running on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS Precise installed servers. We have installed 1.1.4 at August 1st 2012 and upgraded 1.2.0 when its available. Server names are: f1 - 10.10.0.12 - This is the first installed server. We have joined other ones to this server. This also serves Riak control. s2 - 10.10.0.22 - s3 - 10.10.0.23 - s4 - 10.10.0.24 - This server also serves Riak control. This morning we've seen "insufficient nodes available" error at our applications log and restarted all nodes. 3 of them became available except "f1" UPDATE : while I prepare this message live 3 nodes became unavailable and need restart Riak. wolfiem@f01:~$ sudo /etc/init.d/riak start Riak failed to start within 15 seconds, see the output of 'riak console' for more information. If you want to wait longer, set the environment variable WAIT_FOR_ERLANG to the number of seconds to wait. • Why am I getting a 403 error on a POST to a PHP script?

  Background I want to allow my users to submit a crash report which will get emailed to me. I'm using UKCrashReporter with the bundled PHP script I've modified. This code does a POST to a specified URL along with the crash report. I'm on a shared server running Linux. My main domain is synapticmishap.co.uk. The Problem When I send the crash report off, on the Cocoa side, it reports as having sent it successfully, but I don't receive an email. The code has been used in lots of other well established Cocoa projects and it was working for me a few months ago. That leads me to conclude that the problems are related to my web server setup, something I know almost nothing about. When I look at my log files, I see entries like this: IP Redacted - - [10/Jun/2010:09:47:53 +0100] "POST /synapticmishap/crashreportform.php HTTP/1.1" 403 74 "-" "UKCrashReporter" What I've tried I've tried accessing the page at http://synapticmishap.co.uk/synapticmishap/crashreportform.php via a browser. It loads fine. I've made sure the permissions on this php script are set so anyone can execute it. I've tried removing the deny entries from the section of .htaccess at various levels starting with root. I've downloaded the URLParams plugin for Firefox which allows you to simulate POSTs. I put in the URL above and tried a post with "crashlog" as the parameter and "test" as the value. This generated a 200 log entry in my log file - it seemed to work, although no mail message was sent. • Accessing resources on localhost using domain credentials

  I'm trying to set up Team Foundation Server 2010, Sharepoint Server 2010 and Report Server 2008R2. I apologize for how long my question/problem is but I'm really lost on where to even look so am being as descriptive as possible in hopes that I'm making sense. The goal: Since developers can be inside or outside the firewall there needs to be a single http point of entry to TFS that works regardless of which side of the firewall you are and needs to work with external access to SharePoint and Report Server. Meaning we have it set up in DNS so buildserver.mydomain.com: points to the build service box which contains all of the services listed at the top of this post and specific services are defined/located by the port number. This is working great on every machine inside and out except for from the build server itself. All services must be able to work using external URLs. If I use http:// buildserver.mydomain.com:4800/tfs (the external URL) from my notebook which is behind the firewall I'm able to login with my domain credentials as expected. If the other developer points to the same URL from their home which isn't on the domain they are also able to login using their domain credentials. However if I am directly on buildserver and call SharePoint, TFS or Reporting Server from (i.e. http:// buildserver.mydomain.com:4800) itself using the external URL, I am prompted for a username and password. Entering my domain credentials results in another prompt to enter my credentials again. It will prompt three times regardless of which credentials are used (I have rights as a domain admin) and then after the third prompt directs me to a blank white page as though access was denied. There are no errors displayed on the page and nothing ends up in the event viewer. From buildserver if i use just the host name (the internal URL), then I'm prompted a single time for credentials and it works. i.e. http:// buildserver:4800/tfs works from the server itself. The behavior is identical for any service requiring authentication. Meaning from the box itself Sharepoint Central Admin, SharePoint WebApp, TFS, TFS Web Access, Report Server and Report Manager all fail using the external URL but will succeed if called using the interal URL. So the problem comes into play when configuring all of the services to work together. The only way to configure TFS is locally from the server which means I must point to the internal reporting server url (http:// buildserver:4800/reports and reportServer respectively instead of http:// buildserver.domainname.com:4800 like they need to be) since external URLs aren't working from itself. If I configure TFS to use the internal URL for Report Server then creating team projects or working in the SharePoint site for the team project fails for anyone not inside the domain since their machines have no idea who http:// buildserver:/reports even is or how to resolve them. I have configured Sharepoint with Alternate Access Mappings as well as set up Report Server to listen for external URLs. The external URLs simply aren't working when called from the server itself. • Issue with Autofac 2 and MVC2 using HttpRequestScoped

  I'm running into an issue with Autofac2 and MVC2. The problem is that I am trying to resolve a series of dependencies where the root dependency is HttpRequestScoped. When I try to resolve my UnitOfWork (which is Disposable), Autofac fails because the internal disposer is trying to add the UnitOfWork object to an internal disposal list which is null. Maybe I'm registering my dependencies with the wrong lifetimes, but I've tried many different combinations with no luck. The only requirement I have is that MyDataContext lasts for the entire HttpRequest. I've posted a demo version of the code for download here. • Opening an SQL CE file at runtime with Entity Framework 4

  I am getting started with Entity Framework 4, and I an creating a demo app as a learning exercise. The app is a simple documentation builder, and it uses a SQL CE store. Each documentation project has its own SQL CE data file, and the user opens one of these files to work on a project. The EDM is very simple. A documentation project is comprised of a list of subjects, each of which has a title, a description, and zero or more notes. So, my entities are Subject, which contains Title and Text properties, and Note, which has Title and Text properties. There is a one-to-many association from Subject to Note. I am trying to figure out how to open an SQL CE data file. A data file must match the schema of the SQL CE database created by EF4's Create Database Wizard, and I will implement a New File use case elsewhere in the app to implement that requirement. Right now, I am just trying to get an existing data file open in the app. I have reproduced my existing 'Open File' code below. I have set it up as a static service class called File Services. The code isn't working quite yet, but there is enough to show what I am trying to do. I am trying to hold the ObjectContext open for entity object updates, disposing it when the file is closed. So, here is my question: Am I on the right track? What do I need to change to make this code work with EF4? Is there an example of how to do this properly? Thanks for your help. • Comparing Dates in Oracle Business Rule Decision Tables

  I have been working with decision tables for some time but have never had a scenario where I need to compare dates. The use case was to check if a persons membership had expired. I didn't think much of it till I started to develop it. The first trap I feel into was trying to create ranges and bucket sets. The other trap I fell into was not converting the date field to a complete date. This may seem obvious to most people but my Google searches came up with nothing so I thought I would create a quick post. I assume everyone knows how to create a decision table so I'm not going to go through those steps. The prerequisite for this post is to have a decision table with a payload that has a date field. This filed must have the date in the following format YYYY-MM-DDThh:mm:ss. Create a new condition in your decision table Right-click on the condition to edit it and select the expression builder In the expression builder, select the Functions tab. Expand the CurrentDate file and select date, and click Insert Into Expression button. In the Expression Builder you need to create an expression that will return true or false, add the operation <= after the CurrentDate.date In my scenario my date field is memberExpire, Navigate to your date field and expand, select toGregorianCalendar(). Your expression will look something like this, click OK to get back to the decision table Now its just a matter of checking if the value is true or false. Simple when you know how :-)

• Serializing network messages

  I am writing a network wrapper around boost::asio and was wondering what is a good and simple way to serialize my messages. I have a message factory which can take care of dispatching the data to the correct builder, but I want to know if there are any established solutions for getting the binary data on the sender side and consequently passing the data for deserialization on the receiver end. Some options I've explored are: passing a pointer to a char[] to the serialize/deserialize functions (for serialize to write to, and deserialize to read from), but it's difficult to enforce buffer size this way; building on that, I decided to have the serialize function return a boost::asio::mutable_buffer, however ownership of the memory gets blurred between multiple classes, as the network wrapper needs to clean up the memory allocated by the message builder. I have also seen solutions involving streambuf's and stringstream's, but manipulating binary data in terms of its string representation is something I want to avoid. Is there some sort of binary stream I can use instead? What I am looking for is a solution (preferrably using boost libs) that lets the message builder dictate the amount of memory allocated during serialization and what that would look like in terms of passing the data around between the wrapper and message factory/message builders. PS. Messages contain almost exclusively built-in types and PODs and form a shallow but wide hierarchy for the sake of going through a factory. Note: a link to examples of using boost::serialization for something like this would be appreciated as I'm having difficulties figuring out the relation between it and buffers.

  Here's an example with a Flash project, but I'm sure a lot of projects are like this. Suppose I create an image with Photoshop. I then export this image as a jpeg for integration in Flash. I compile the fla as an asset library, which is then used in my Flash Builder project to produce the final swf. So it goes like : psd => jpg -> fla => swc -> Flash Builder project => swf. => : produce -> : is used in The psd, fla, and Flash Builder Project are source files : they are not the result of some process. The jpg and swc are what I would call "intermediate" files. They are the product of one (or more) source file(s). The swf is the final result. So, would you keep those intermediate files under version control? How do you deal with them?

• Synergy 1.5 crash (OSX 10.6.8)

  THANKS FOR TAKING THE TIME TO READ THIS I recently installed Synergy 1.5 r2278 (for Mac OSX 10.6.8) and was using it fine for most of the day, then it decided to stop working (the only thing I changed systemwise was the screensaver - and then after it started crashing disabled it - to see if it would resolve). • Can I avoid a threaded UDP socket in Python dropping data?

  First off, I'm new to Python and learning on the job, so be gentle! I'm trying to write a threaded Python app for Windows that reads data from a UDP socket (thread-1), writes it to file (thread-2), and displays the live data (thread-3) to a widget (gtk.Image using a gtk.gdk.pixbuf). I'm using queues for communicating data between threads. My problem is that if I start only threads 1 and 3 (so skip the file writing for now), it seems that I lose some data after the first few samples. After this drop it looks fine. Even by letting thread 1 complete before running thread 3, this apparent drop is still there. Apologies for the length of code snippet (I've removed the thread that writes to file), but I felt removing code would just prompt questions. • Why Does Ejabberd Start Fail?

  I am trying to install ejabberd 2.1.10-2 on my Ubuntu 12.04.1 server. This is a fresh install, and ejabberd is never successfully installed. The Install Every time, apt-get hangs on this: Setting up ejabberd (2.1.10-2ubuntu1) ... Generating SSL certificate /etc/ejabberd/ejabberd.pem... Creating config file /etc/ejabberd/ejabberd.cfg with new version Starting jabber server: ejabberd............................................................ failed. The dots just go forever until it times out or I 'killall' beam, beam.smp, epmd, and ejabberd processes. I've turned off all firewall restrictions. Here's the output of epmd -names while the install is hung: epmd: up and running on port 4369 with data: name ejabberdctl at port 42108 name ejabberd at port 39621 And after it fails: epmd: up and running on port 4369 with data: name ejabberd at port 39621 At the same time (during and after), the output of both netstat -atnp | grep 5222 and netstat -atnp | grep 5280 is empty. The Crash File A crash dump file is create at /var/log/ejabber/erl_crash.dump. The slogan (i.e. reason for the crash) is: Slogan: Kernel pid terminated (application_controller) ({application_start_failure,kernel,{shutdown,{kernel,start,[normal,[]]}}}) It's alive? Whenever I try to relaunch ejabberd with service ejabberd start, the same thing happens - even if I've killed all processes before doing so. • Increase application performance

  I'm writing a program for a company that will generate a daily report for them. All of the data that they use for this report is stored in a local SQLite database. For this report, the utilize pretty much every bit of the information in the database. So currently, when I query the datbase, I retrieve everything, and store the information in lists. The Import program takes data from the interface tables listed below and populates the contracts schema tables:  OKS_USAGE_COUNTERS_INTERFACE OKS_SALES_CREDITS_INTERFACEOKS_NOTES_INTERFACEOKS_LINES_INTERFACEOKS_HEADERS_INTERFACEOKS_COVERED_LEVELS_INTERFACEThese interface tables must be loaded via a custom load program.The Service Contracts Import concurrent request is then submitted to create contracts from this legacy data. The parameters to run the Import program are:  Parameter Description  Mode Validate only, Import  Batch Number Batch_Id (unique id populated into the OKS_HEADERS_INTERFACE table)  Number of Workers Number of workers required (these are spawned as separate sub-requests)  Commit size Represents number of successfully processed contracts commited to database The program spawns sub-requests for the import worker(s) and the 'Service Contracts Import Report'.  The data is validated prior to import and into the Contracts tables and will report errors in the Service Contracts Import Report program output file (Import Execution Report).  Troubleshooting tips are provided in R12.1 - Common Service Contract Import Errors (Doc ID 762545.1); this document lists some, but not all, import errors.  The document will be updated over time.  Additional help is given in Debugging Tip for Service Contracts Import Errors (Doc ID 971426.1).After you successfully import contracts, you can purge the records from the interface tables by running the Service Contracts Import Purge concurrent program. Note that there is no supported way to mass delete data from the Contracts schema tables once they are populated, so data loaded by the Import program must be fully tested and verified before the program is run to load data into a Production system.A Service Contracts Import Test program has been provided which will take an existing contract in the application and load the interface tables using the data from that contract.  This can be used as an example for guidance on how to load the interface tables.  The Test program functionality is explained in How to Use the Service Contracts Test Import Program Provided in Release 12.1 (Doc ID 761209.1).  Note that the Test program has some limitations which do not apply to the full Import program and is not a supported program, it is simply a testing tool.

• Closing the Gap: 2012 IOUG Enterprise Data Security Survey

  The new survey from the Independent Oracle Users Group (IOUG) titled "Closing the Security Gap: 2012 IOUG Enterprise Data Security Survey," uncovers some interesting trends in IT security among IOUG members and offers recommendations for securing data stored in enterprise databases. "Despite growing threats and enterprise data security risks, organizations that implement appropriate detective, preventive, and administrative safeguards are seeing significant results," finds the report's author, Joseph McKendrick, analyst, Unisphere Research. Produced by Unisphere Research and underwritten by Oracle, the report is based on responses from 350 IOUG members representing a variety of job roles, organization sizes, and industry verticals. Key findings include Corporate budgets increase, but trailing. Though corporate data security budgets are increasing this year, they still have room to grow to reach the previous year’s spending. Additionally, more than half of respondents say their organizations still do not have, or are unaware of, data security plans to help address contingencies as they arise. Danger of unauthorized access. Less than a third of respondents encrypt data that is either stored or in motion, and at the same time, more than three-fifths say they send actual copies of enterprise production data to other sites inside and outside the enterprise. Privileged user misuse. Only about a third of respondents say they are able to prevent privileged users from abusing data, and most do not have, or are not aware of, ways to prevent access to sensitive data using spreadsheets or other ad hoc tools. Lack of consistent auditing. A majority of respondents actively collect native database audits, but there has not been an appreciable increase in the implementation of automated tools for comprehensive auditing and reporting across databases in the enterprise. IOUG RecommendationsThe report's author finds that securing data requires not just the ability to monitor and detect suspicious activity, but also to prevent the activity in the first place. To achieve this comprehensive approach, the report recommends the following. Apply an enterprise-wide security strategy. Database security requires multiple layers of defense that include a combination of preventive, detective, and administrative data security controls. Get business buy-in and support. Data security only works if it is backed through executive support. The business needs to help determine what protection levels should be attached to data stored in enterprise databases. Provide training and education. Often, business users are not familiar with the risks associated with data security.
