But how would I create one?   Hi all, I'm just starting to dabble in consuming a JSON webservice, and I am having a little trouble working out the best way to get to the actual data elements. I am receiving a response which has been converted into a ruby hash using the JSON.parse method.   I have a model Foo with a String bar and a String name. Some records' bar contain the name of other records in them. This is intentional. I want to find the "root Foo" records - that is, the ones where their name do not appear in the bar records of any other Foo records. Example: Foo id: 1 name: 'foo1' bar: 'something something' id: 2 name: 'foo2' bar: 'foo1 something' id: 3 name: 'foo3' bar: 'foo1, foo4' My method root_foos would return foo2 and foo3 since their names do not appear in any bar string. edit: I don't want to use a relation or foreign key here - just this method.

• C# String builder, displaying data nicely spaced out.

  Hello, I am wondering how exactly can i order my date nicely in a stringbuilder? Meaning something equal to ("{0,2}", ....) to space the data nicely out. I do not want to use consolewrites of any kind, so the class can be re-used in a form, console code etc... Currently i am using " " for the spacing, but in overall it does not give a proper display. • Is there a Swing JPanel toolbar background that fits all OSs?

  I'm using a JPanel to have a toolbar on my background, but I don't like the look of it. Actually, there's basically no look, no background and the buttons are flat when the mouse is not over them. This is on Windows. How can I have a better look for this? Something that would fit better on Windows? Maybe something like the ToolStrip in Visual Studio? Or maybe something better that would look much better depending on the OS version (Windows, Mac, Linux)? Suggestions?

  Given the following contrived (and yes, terrible) example: template<typename... Args> void something(Args... args) { std::tuple<Args...> tuple; // not initializing for sake of example std::get<0>(tuple) = 5; } It works if you call it like so: int x = 10; something<int>(x); However, it does not work if you call it like this: int x = 10; something<int&>(x); Because of the assignment to 5. Assuming that I cannot, for whatever reason, initialize the tuple when it is defined, how might I get this to work when specifying the type as a reference? Specifically, I would like the tuple to be std::tuple<int> even when Args... is int&.

• Ordered Data Structure that allows to efficiently remove duplicate items

  I need a data structure that Must be ordered (adding elements a, b and c to an empty structure, will make them be at positions 0, 1 and 2). Allows to add repeated items. This is, I can have a list with a, b, c, a, b. Allows removing all ocurrences of a given item (if I do something like delete(1), it will delete all ocurrences of 1 in the structure). I can't really pick what the best data structure could be in here. I thought at first about something like a List(the problem is having an O(n) operation when removing items), but maybe I'm missing something? What about trees/heaps? Hashtables/maps? I'll have to assume I'll do as much adding as removing with this data structure. Thanks

• iPhone : Primitives getters and setters

  I feel a bit miffed at the moment, I done a few iPhone projects that use floats and ints etc and all is fine. I now using OpenGL and GLFloat[] C arrays etc and it seems unless I make methods to set / get them it crashes on the device (not the simulator). Now as these are not setup as properties (I don't think c arrays can) it kind of makes sense. However the project has been working for months without them. It seems something in the code is wiping out anything float / ints to the point that the debugger can see an assigned value but accessing it crashes the phone. As soon as I think I know something for this platform, something changes my mind lol.

• If I'm projecting with linq and not using a range variable what is the proper syntax?

  I have a query that sums and aggregates alot of data something like this: var anonType = from x in collection let value = collection.Where(c=>c.Code == "A") select new { sum = value.Sum(v=>v.Amount) }; I find it really weird that I have to declare the range variable x, especially if I'm not using it. So, am I doing something wrong or is there a different format I should be following? Also, keep in mind that anonType has about 15 different properties that are all types of aggregates (sums,counts, etc). So I couldn't do something like: int x = collection.Where(c=>c.Code == "A").Sum(v=>v.Amount);

• PHP: "Footer function"?

  I have a project. It has a good number of PHP files. Each of these files includes a standard header. They don't include a standard footer. Now I want to do something just before the end of every page. I can go through each page and add the footer code, but I was wondering if there is an easier way (and I think I've seen something like it before, though I might be mistaken). Is there a way to set a "hook" or "trigger" function that will be executed at the end of a page, from the included header PHP script? I'm thinking of something like set_error_handler but to handle a page close event. Or like C's atexit function.

I was wondering if it's possible to pass different structures to a certain function. • Sorting results by a char(1) column

  I have a stored procedure which basically does something like select top 1 expiryDate, flag, (bunch of other columns) from someTable (bunch of joins) order by expiryDate desc So this will grab the record that expires last. This works for most cases, except some records have a flag that are just a char(1). Most of the time it's just Y or N. So it'll return something like 2010-12-31 N 2010-10-05 Y 2010-08-05 N 2010-03-01 F 2010-01-31 N This works, most of the time, but is there any way to order it by the Flag column as well? So I'd want to group the results by Y, then N, and F and any other flags can go last in any order. I thought this would just be an order by, but since the flags are not weighted by the alphabetic value, I'm a little stumped. (Note: These are not my tables, I don't know if using the characters like this was a good idea or not, but it's not something I can change).

• Disabled Select drop down checking through PHP

  I have a couple of drop down boxes I access through POST with PHP. When the boxes are disabled and not equal to zero I have the program do something. However when they are disabled I do not want them to do anything. The way I check if the boxes are active is by using an if statement if ($_POST['box'] != "blank"){ //do something } So basically I check if the box is not in the default blank position run the if statement. However when it is disabled I am not sure how to check or what kind of value it returns if any. What can I add to the if statement so it will not go into the loop when the boxes are disabled? I tried: if ($_POST['box'] != "blank" || $_POST['box'] != ""){ //do something } But that did not work. Any ideas?

  I'm trying to query an element and its children to find ID's that begin with a particular string. var foundIDs = containerElement.find('[id^=something]').andSelf().filter('id^=something'); The find() method only searches descendants so I thought I'd try andSelf(). However, andSelf() does not take a selector. This means that the container element is included regardless of whether it matches the find query or not and I then have to perform a secondary filter() on it to remove the container element if it didn't match after all. I attempted to put andSelf() before the find() but it didn't seem to pick up the container element into the stack. containerElement.andSelf().find('[id^=something]'); Is there any better way to achieve what I'm doing?

• Implementing "select distinct ... from ..." over a list of Python dictionaries

  Hi folks, Here is my problem: I have a list of Python dictionaries of identical form, that are meant to represent the rows of a table in a database, something like this: [ {'ID': 1, 'NAME': 'Joe', 'CLASS': '8th', ... }, {'ID': 1, 'NAME': 'Joe', 'CLASS': '11th', ... }, ...] I have already written a function to get the unique values for a particular field in this list of dictionaries, which was trivial. That function implements something like: select distinct NAME from ... However, I want to be able to get the list of multiple unique fields, similar to: select distinct NAME, CLASS from ... Which I am finding to be non-trivial. Is there an algorithm or Python included function to help me with this quandry? Before you suggest loading the CSV files into a SQLite table or something similar, that is not an option for the environment I'm in, and trust me, that was my first thought.

• How are OpenGL programs debugged?

  I'm trying to find what is causing a segfault when glDrawArrays is called (as gdb says) in my simple program. When I use the OpenGl calls directly, the program runs fine. But when I wrap them up into two classes (under construction, of vao and vbo) the program segfaults. So, in my wrappers, I definitly disabled something or set something I'm not supposed to. My question is, how do I get some diagnostics that will help me pinpoint the source of the problem ? I'm looking for something similar to what glGetShaderiv does, but for vao and vbo s, that will tell me if I have..say.. unbound a buffer by mistake. [I'm not posting the code here, but if any of you want to donate some time by testing a segfaulting example, here is a tar.gz of the source . You'll need working libraries of sfml-2.0rc, glew and gcc=4.6 .]

  So I have a couple of arrays $array_1 = Array('one','two','three'); $array_2 = Array('red','blue','green'); Is there a dynamic way to create the Setters and Getters for an array with single value entries? So the class would be something like: class xFromArray() { } So the above if I passed $array_1 it would generate something like this: private $one; setOne($x) { $one = $x; } getOne() { return $one; } if I passed $array_2 it would generate something like this: private $red; setRed($x) { $red = $x; } getRed() { return $red; } So I would call it somehow like this? I would cover basic c++ first week, and start the project second week. What I need is a project that is doable (for them) in 2 weeks. It is interesting. I want something that really illustrates the flexibility that the team has when implementing stories to define the scope and complexity of the feature themselves. Most of the teams have long-term waterfall experience and are used to having a well-defined specification. I'm looking for something that illustrates the need for the team to vary the scope of what they are building themselves, dependent on the time and resources available. I couldn't find anything at tastycupcakes.com and Google wasn't much help. Maybe someone has prepared something themselves they would care to share?

• .NET security mechanism to restrict access between two Types in the same Website project?

  Question: Is there a mechanism in the .NET Framework to hide one custom Type from another without using separate projects/assemblies? I'm using C# with ASP.NET in a Website project (Note: Not a Web Application). Obviously there's not a way to enforce this restriction using language-specific OO keywords so I am looking for something else, for example: maybe a permission framework or code access mechanism, maybe something that uses meta data like Attributes. I'm unsure. I don't really care whether the solution actually hides classes from each other or just makes them inaccessible, etc. A runtime or design time answer will suffice. Looking for something easy to implement otherwise it's not worth the effort ... Background: I'm working in an ASP.NET Website project and the team has decided not to use separate project assemblies for different software layers. Therefore I'm looking for a way to have, for example, a DataAccess/ folder of which I disallow its classes to access other Types in the ASP.NET Website project.

  This SQL statement example is very close to what I think I need... update table1 set value1 = x.value1 from (select value1, code from table2 where code = something) as x However, what I need to do is change the "something" in the above example to a value from the row that is being updated. For example, I tried this but it didn't work: update table1 A set value1 = x.value1 from (select value1, code from table2 where code = A.something) as x This is a one time operation to update an existing table and I'm not really looking for high performance way to do this. Any solution that gets the task done is good enough.
