    I'm trying to return a string from a function. Which basically adds some chars together and return the string representation. string toString() { char c1, c2, c3; // some code here return c1 + c2; // Error: invalid conversion from `char' to `const char*' } it is possible to return boolean values like return c1 == 'x'. Isn't it possible to return string values? I know that it is possible to it like this: string result; result.append(c1, c2); return result; I'm new to C++ so I thought that there must be more elegant solution around.

    I'd like to use SimpleTest to set up some functionality tests for our project - in particular, we have a very busy page which has some random components and some static components, and I'd like to be able to write a simple test which only confirms the static bits (preferably only the one or two most important ones). In other words, I want to be able to leave out any tags on the page I don't care about, and write something like: $result = "<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xml:lang="en" lang="en"><head><title>...</title><meta .../></head><body><script type="text/javascript">...</script><div class="center-splash"><span>Welcome JohnDoe</span><p>Your progress:</p>...</div><div class="left-column">...</div><div class="right-column">...</div>...</body></html>"; $expects = array('html'=>true,'body'=>true,'div'=>array('class'=>'center_splash'),'span'=>true,'Welcome JohnDoe','/span','/div','/body','/html'); $this->assertTagsButIgnoreExtras($result, $expects); When I try this with assertTags it fails. That's the code behind page: protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { input_box.Text = Request.QueryString["input"]; } protected void run(object sender, EventArgs e) { string url = string.Format("?input={0}", input_box.Text); Response.Redirect(Request.Url.AbsolutePath + url); } Problem is that when query string is not empty, string from input_box cannot be passed to query string. How to correct it?

  • Stored Connection Strings per user

    In the past I've used a Singleton Pattern to load the connection string when the application starts via the global.asa file. I have a project now where each user has a unique connection string to the database. I would like to load this connection string once. The issue is that the singleton pattern will not work for me since each user has there own connection string. Basically the connection string is created dynamically. I do not want to store it is session. If anyway has a clever way of doing this in .NET let me know ?

I'm trying to write it so that if the user leaves the input blank, then the letter that would otherwise be taken to generate the username defaults to the letter 'z'.   • How to have NHibernate persist a String.Empty property value as NULL

    I have a fairly simple class that I want to save to SQL Server via NHibernate (w/ Fluent mappings). The class is made up mostly of optional string fields. My problem is I default the class fields to string.empty to avoid NullRefExceptions and when NHibernate saves the row to the database each column contains an empty string instead of null. Question: Is there a way for me to get NHibernate to automatically save null when the string property is an empty string? Or do I need to litter my code with if (string.empty) checks?

For eg: URL[] matchingUrls = someLibrary.getMatchingResources("folder/*.txt"); Libraries like Spring can scan the classpath to find classes with a given annotation, so I am wondering if there something similar to load a bunch of resources.

I am compiling under JDK 1.5 Take this line as an example that I read from standard input: ab:Some string po:bubblegum What I would like to do is split by the two characters and colon. That is, once the line is split and put into a string array, these should be the terms: ab:Some string po:bubblegum I have this regex right now: String[] split = input.split("[..:]"); This splits at the semicolon; what I would like is for it to match two characters and a semicolon, but split at the space before that starts. Is this even possible? Here is the output from the string array: ab Some String po bubblegum I've read about Pattern.compile() as well. Is this something I should be considering?

    I have several sets of the same type [Y, M, D] and am trying to write a function to search these sets and return an array of the available sets that fit my parameters. ReturnedSets = return_matches(Y,M,D); I want the three parameters of the function return_matches to be optional. Which means any combination of values can be used to return the sets. For example, one could write - return_matches(13,null,2); - and the function would look for all sets that contain [13, anyValue, 2]; I'm writing this in PHP, to allow users to manage dated files on my website, but I'd like to be able to use this function again for other uses. Thanks! edit: (This, or variations of this, is all I can come up with so far... So for example, if the site is example.com, and if the request is example.com/sitemap/. Then I want to execute conditional code in that case. I'm using wordpress so I'm not sure if there is a built-in function that gets this... A pure PHP solution is fine.

    Hello I have two histograms. int Hist1[10] = {1,4,3,5,2,5,4,6,3,2}; int Hist1[10] = {1,4,3,15,12,15,4,6,3,2}; Hist1's distribution is of type multi-modal; Hist2's distribution is of type uni-modal with single prominent peak. My questions are Is there any way that i could determine the type of distribution programmatically? How to quantify whether these two histograms are similar/dissimilar? Thanks
