  Problem If you run the “Generate database from model” wizard and execute the generated script the destination database could be the wrong one (for instance master of the SQL Server). Solution To use an own mdf attachable user database some connection information must specified during script execution. Execute your script opens the dialog “Connect to Server”. Press “Options” and go to the second tab “Connection Properties”. Select “Browse server” in the “Connect to database” dropdown box: Confirm the information dialog with “Yes”. In the following dialog you could choose your user database. Now the schema is created in the user database.

• Issues with MongoDB install on Ubuntu 8.04 LTS

  I am installing MongoDB (1.4.1) on Ubuntu (8.04 LTS) and I continuously have a problem where I can be in /usr/local/mongodb/bin and run ./mongo or ./mongod and I am returned "No such file or directory." Let me be very clear here... the files ARE there! The obvious go-to solution is that it is because of permission issues but the permissions are fine. I've even tried others out, still without any luck. I'm really at the end here and any help would be MUCH appreciated. Thank you!

• Change permission of files with the owner 'apache'

  Hay, i have some files on my server with the owner set to "apache", I'm not quite sure how this happened. Anyway, i need to change the permission of these files to 0777 so i can download/edit them. However i cannot. I'm using a 1and1 Linux server and use Plesk to administrate it. I have the ability to login via SSH. However, if i run chmod or chown i get a "permission denied" error, and if i try to sudo chmod or chown it says the command cannot be found. When i go to edit my domain details, i get this option Shell access to server with FTP user's credentials and have these options /bin/sh /bin/bash /sbin/nologin /bin/bash (chrooted) /bin/rbash Any idea's how i should go about changing the permissions or changing the owner?   Generally with PHP, files/folders have a permission of 0777 when we want to write to them. suPHP forbids a permission of 0777. Instead, files are supposed to have a permission of 0644 and folders have a permission 0755. However, this is always worded differently SuPHP won't allow chmod of 777 so we need to set all files to 644 and directories to 755 Your scripts and directories can now, only have a maximum of 755 permissions Set file permission(s) to allow read access only by you (e.g., chmod 600 filename.suphp). What is the exact rule and to what files does it apply to? If I have README file somewhere in a nested directory does its permission need to be updated, or does it only apply to .php files?

• Locate a user's bashrc file

  Really confused. Upon running cat etc/passwd I have found this: postgres:x:117:126:PostgreSQL administrator,,,:/var/lib/postgresql:/bin/bash meaning I have a postgres user, right? I want to change the bashrc environment file of this user to make commands available to it. /var/lib/postgresql doesn't contain a bashrc file, and /bin/bash doesn't contain it either, so I don't really know what's going on. All I know is a created postgres using the useradd command, so why do I have some weird user with no home directory? So confused :(

  I need to run a few perl scripts from a Java GUI application. I am using Runtime API to do that. However, few of the perl scripts need to run under a specific user account to have special credentials to access specialized resources (e.g. Database, Files). I have heard of alleviating user access using UAC. But till now I am not able to find the solution. Please help me on how to run a process under a different user login. Is there anything similar to c# impersonization in Java?

• No write access on Windows 2008 workgroup share

  Hi All, I'm trying to access network shares on my new Windows 2008 server (workgroup) using my server's local admin account. I can read files but not modify them. Permissions (sharing + file system) say: Users = Read only. Admins = Full Control. Even though I connect using my admin account (net use x: \\server\share /user:server\me), I can't write. OTOH, I have another share on the same computer where users have Read AND Write. I can write into that one. What's the problem? Does it have to do with UAC? TIA for your help.

  I'm developing a standalone application using java, I have a Login screen, wherein user enters his username and password. For each instance of the application, user have to enter his credentials. From a usability standpoint, I thought of keeping a remember me check Button. My question is, as I am not using any database, how do I persist the user details. I was just wondering whether I can take this short-cut of supplying the username (--user) as root in this command itself. If I supply username as root to create my VMs, am I creating/enabling the root user, or just creating a user named as root? p.s.: any better ways to achieve my task are also welcome. But I don't want to manually meddle with each VM after its creation

• File permission set to 644 and wordpress cannot access them?

  Hi everyone, I'm having problems with WordPress not be able to access files. When installing certain themes and plugins, it comes up with an error saying that it cannot create the directory. When I try to edit style.css it says that I need to make that file writable. The file permissions were set to 644. It wouldn't work until I changed the settings to 777 or 776. WordPress was installed by our local ISP. Anyone got any ideas? It seems that WordPress has not been setup properly. Is there anyway I can fix this without reinstalling the whole thing? Thanks, Joel

• Mysql refusing connection: a very special connection issue

  I have my programers remoting into a web server with windows rdp. This web server is the only machine that can access another mysql server in a secure zone. When I remote into the web server from my machine I am able to connect to the mysql server through the mysql workbench on the web server. However, when I try this same procedure from another person's computer I can get into the server via rdp. I just can't connect to mysql using the workbench. I have checked and re checked the credentials and connection information. They match. I've had other people check and re check the credentials. As far as mysql permissions are concerned this user is allowed to connect from any machine. Plus I'm remoting into the same web server. The only difference seems to be which computer is remoting into the webserver. wtf?

• Identifying connected lines drawn free-hand by a user

  I have a series of 'images' described by a mixture of connected lines and curves. Users will draw on the screen, free hand, and my goal is to break their drawing down into a series of lines and curves that can be matched with the 'images' in my set. For the sake of simplicity, let's assume this is occurring on a touch screen. These lines will be connected. Each time the user's finger moves, the dx and dy is recorded. The drawing is considered complete and analyzed when the user's finger leaves the screen. I'm having trouble figuring out a good way to break the user's drawing down into lines. Is there any well known approach to this problem, a C++ library that solves it, or any good articles/technical papers on how to achieve this?

• Permission denied on network share

  i have a Windows 8 host system running a virtual(hyper-v) Debian6 client with an lamp environment. My development environment runs under Windows and I mapped the folder with my php files to a network drive so Apache has access to them.(mount.cifs //pc/share /var/share/) This far no problems - I see my app on windows in the browser. The problem is, I can't write stuff in php to the share folder - everytime i got a permission denied message in my error logs. For testing purpose i tried to change the directory permissions of /var/share with chmod -R 777 /var/share without success. Now Iam a little bit stumped.. has anyone an idea how to solve this?

  Hi there, The company I work for is close to being finished with our first web app and we recently made the decision to offer hosting for our smaller customers. (We provide software to lending companies and our larger customers are required to buy redundant servers to host their application). What we are trying to work out right now is how to create user generated subdomains that will hold a new instance of the software. So a user will be able to sign up and say that the company name is XYZ Credit once they click on the create account button a url of xyzcredit.ourcompanyname.com is created and the user is redirected to it. • Trac permission denied for SVN repo

  I'm running Apache2,SVN & Trac on OpenSUSE. SVN works like a charm. I've initialized trac environment for one of my SVN repositories for trac to show source code in it's repo browser and I set the repository up in the Trac web admin. I also ran the trac-admin resync for that repo without problems. Trouble is when I open the Trac repo browser I get: "can't open file: /srv/svn/repos/myrepo/format, access denied)" error. I checked the permissions and: apache runs as wwwrun tracd runs as wwwrun the whole subtree /srv/svn/... belongs to svn group and the group has rw perms all the way down to the "format" file wwwrun is in the svn group I also did the perms check: $ sudo -u wwwrun cat /srv/svn/repos/myrepo/format and got it printed out without trouble. So in my opinion there shoud not be any permission conflict. Any idea what else to check? Thanks in advance!

• Server 2012 file server security - File access through software only?

  I have just setup a server 2012 essentials R2 box as a test bed for my small business. Its running Essentials R2 as a VM on a Essentials R2 host. I have set it up to be the DC and DHCP server and joined a client. My next task is to use it as a file server but I am not quite sure how to set it up. All the client interactions with the file server will be through client side software. I therefore do not want any access to the files apart from through the software. I have looked at the ntfs permissions and there is a permission called "List Folder/Read Data" however I am unsure this will do what I want. Is it possible to give access to the files but not allow access through the windows explorer / command line?

  In my game, I want to provide the user with a drawing feature. By free hand drawing, the user creates a polygon shape. Then, in my game implementation, I have to create a body for the found vertices and generate an image based on that polygon shape.
