• Can't get virtual desktops to show up on RDWeb for Server 2012 R2

  I built a test lab using the Windows Server 2012 R2 Preview. The initial test lab has the following configuration (I have replaced our name with "OurCompanyName" because I would like it if Google searches for our name did not cause people to come to this site, please do the same in any responses) Physical hardware running Windows Server 2012 R2 Preview full GUI, acting as Hyper-V host (joined to the test domain as testVwHost.testVw.OurCompanyName.com) with the following VM's running on it VM running 2012 R2 Core acting as domain controller for the forest testVw.OurCompanyName.com (testDC.testVw.OurCompanyName.com) VM running 2012 R2 Core with nothing running on it joined to the test domain as testIIS.testVw.OurCompanyName.com A clean install of Windows 7, all that was done to it was all windows updates where loaded and sysprep /generalize /oobe /shutdown /mode:vm was run on it A clean install of Windows 8, all that was done to it was all windows updates where loaded and sysprep /generalize /oobe /shutdown /mode:vm was run on it I then ran "Add Roles and Features" from testVwHost and chose the "Remote Desktop Services Installation", "Standard Deployment", "Virtual machine-based desktop deployment". I choose testIIS for the roles "RD Connection Broker" and "RD Web Access" and testVwHost as "RD Virtualization Host" The Install of the roles went fine, I then went to Remote Desktop Services in server manager and wet to setup Deployment Properties. I set the certificate for all 3 roles to our certificate signed by a CA for *.OurCompanyName.com. I then created a new Virtual Desktop Collection for Windows 7 and Windows 8 and both where created without issue. On the Windows 7 pool I added RemoteApp to launch WordPad, For windows 8 I did not add any RemoteApp programs. Everything now appears to be fine from a setup perspective however if I go to https://testIIS.testVw.OurCompanyName.com/RDWeb and log in as the use Administrator (or any orher user) I don't see the virtual desktops I created nor the RemoteApp publishing of WordPad. I tried adding a licensing server, using testDC as the server but that made no difference. What step did I miss in setting this up that is causing this not to show up on RDWeb? If any additional information is needed pleas let me know. I have tried every possible thing I can think of and I am just groping around in the dark now. • Subdomains not working with virtual hosts on apache2 ubuntu

  I'm trying to set up a subdomain on my ec2 account but can't figure out what's going on. I've looked for a few hours and haven't been able to find an answer :-/ I'm trying to set up a subdomain using virtual hosts but no matter what I try the browser can't find the subdomain :-( I have the following vhosts files set up: apache2/sites-available/mysite (this site currently works) <VirtualHost *:80 ServerName mysite.com ServerAdmin webmaster@localhost DocumentRoot /home/sites/mysite <Directory /home/sites/mysite Options Indexes FollowSymLinks MultiViews AllowOverride All Order allow,deny allow from all </Directory ErrorLog ${APACHE_LOG_DIR}/mysite-error.log LogLevel warn CustomLog ${APACHE_LOG_DIR}/mysite-access.log combined </VirtualHost apache2/sites-available/red (this is the subdomain I'm trying to set up) <VirtualHost *:80 ServerName red.mysite.com ServerAdmin webmaster@localhost DocumentRoot /var/www/red <Directory /var/www/red Options Indexes FollowSymLinks MultiViews AllowOverride All Order allow,deny allow from all </Directory ErrorLog ${APACHE_LOG_DIR}/red-error.log LogLevel warn CustomLog ${APACHE_LOG_DIR}/red-access.log combined </VirtualHost Apache mod_rewrite is enabled. I've enabled both sites using a2ensite and I make sure I restart apache every time I make a change. /etc/hosts 127.0.0.1 localhost 127.0.0.1 mysite.com 127.0.0.1 red.mysite.com Any help would be appreciated. • Symbolic link all files in directory to show in another directory?

  What I want is to be able to display all files that are ftp'd into /home/ftp in /srv/ftp /srv/ftp is password protected, and has files in it which I don't want to be accessible from the public ftp. So as such I wish that all files uploaded to /home/ftp are automatically symbolically linked (or otherwise) to /srv/ftp. Does this make sense? e.g. ls /srv/ftp: file.sh another.txt something_else.i386 then a user ftp's and drops a file in /home/ftp (or ssh, or whatever) ls /home/ftp: user_file.mk ls /srv/ftp: file.sh another.txt something_else.i386 user_file.mk I hope this makes sense. I have been told that this can probably be achieved using ln to create symbolic links, but I don't want to have to ssh in and create the links every time I (or someone else) puts files over ftp. • Installing MoinMoin -wiki to my user directory on a server with no root access

  Hello all, I've been trying to install MoinMoin -wiki on this webserver, where I have no root access. The server doesn't support wsgi, but it does support cgi/fcgi/etc. I've scoured google for a simple guide on how to accomplish this, but the only guides I found were from the year 2004 or so. Other guides always assumed that one has root access. So can anyone link a good tutorial for my question or just help me out here? Your help is appreciated :) P.S. • Apache virtual server httpd-vhosts undocumented issue

  I have read the Apache documentation on the https-vhosts.conf file and after a couple of hours fighting this problem, figured it out on my own. Here's the situation: We have a domain that ends in a .ws Apparently you can't do this in the conf file. You MUST use the ? wildcard or it will not work. The * wildcard will not work either. Further, in the ServerAlias directive, anything past the first entry will not work if the first entry in the ServerAlias directive is not correct. Here is an example of an entry that does NOT work. Note that anotherdomain.com and yetanotherdomain.com will fail because thedomain.ws is not configured correctly: <VirtualHost *:80> DocumentRoot /opt/local/apache2/sites/ourdomain ServerName www.thedomain.ws ServerAlias thedomain.ws another domain.com yetanotherdomain.com <Directory /opt/local/apache2/sites/ourdomain> allow from all </Directory> </VirtualHost> Here is an example of our working entry: <VirtualHost *:80> DocumentRoot /opt/local/apache2/sites/ourdomain ServerName www.thedomain.ws? • Directory paths for resources and assets

  If I have a file stucture for my final, released game something like: Main folder Media Images Other assets Sounds Executable List item And a different one for my 'in development' project, with the same Media folder but: Main Source and .obj, etc. Media with everything Bin folder with executable I obviously cannot hardcode file pathnames into this, like: "../Media/Image/evilguy.png" or "Media/Image/foo.jpg" because they wouldn't work with one of the builds and would require a lot of switching names. Instead, does it make sense for my resource manager, that loads everything, to have some kind of prefix path? Then, I can just do Get("foo.jpg") or Get("Sounds/boom.ogg") And simply switch out, for the final release, the ctr argument from the relative path for the development build to the release layout? If not, how have other people sorted these sorts of things out?

• Working on a virtual machine as a developer

  In the company I'm currently working in, they decided that each developer will move to a VM desktop (Citrix/WinServer2012) an develop/test from there with restricted/no rights to install new software. The Server we will be working on are in a remote Datacenter. So i.e. if for some reason or another the internet brake down, we can't work till the connection is up again. As a developer I don't want to use windows as OS for my working/development environment as there is no need because we don't develop OS specific software. What good points could I raise in an argumentation against moving to the VMs beside the loss/restriction of freedom and the loss of connection to the internet?

• Apache directory authorization bug (clicking cancel gives acces to partial content)

  I got a minor problem (as the site is not high priority) but still a very interesting one. I have an apache root domain wherein other sites live "/var/www/" And I have foo.example.com forwarding to "/var/www/foo-example" (wordpress site) The problem here is that when you go to foo.example.com you are prompted to enter credentials. If you hit cancel it gives you the access denied page. But when you go to the servers' direct IP (this gives you the default index page) and hit cancel when prompted for credentials it just keeps giving you the login screen, and after pressing cancel a few times more it gives (a perhaps cached) bare html part of the page. How do I prevent this from happening? Perhaps this is a bug... Even if I would block access to the root directory when going to the ip/foo-example it would still do this. And I want to keep all the directories within the www directory or at least all in the same. • Setting up httpd-vhosts.conf for multiple virtual hosts

  I have a simple test setup using xampp at home, and I am getting really weird behavior when I attempt to set up multiple virtual hosts on this box.   I have recently configured Virtual Host in my Ubuntu 11.10. But whatever site i type, it always redirects to the localhost page. This is the default web page for this server. The web server software is running but no content has been added, yet. What am I doing wrong? I refered "this" tutorial for setting up virtual host.

  I have a .vmdk (VMWare hard disk) file that I cannot use as the lone disk in a new virtual machine. If I attach it to an existing virtual machine then it works fine. It has Windows Server 2003 on it. When I attempt to boot the new VM it attempts a network boot. EDIT: VMWare Workstation 6.5 I could not find a PXE option in the settings, and I did look in the VM config file for "PXE" but did not find one.

• Static IP Address on Ubuntu 12.04 Virtual Machine

  I've setup a VM running Ubuntu 12.04 specifically for local web development and am having some problems ensuring it has a static IP address. A static IP address is important as I'm using the IP address in my hosts file to assign a .local suffix to addresses used both in browser and to connect to the correct database on the VM. Currently, every time I connect to a new network or my VM is assigned a new IP address I need to reconfigure my whole environment which is becoming quite a pain. It also probably doesn't help that the default-lease-time on the Ubuntu VM is set to 1800 by default. At the moment I'm using VMWare Fusion and the Network Adapter is enabled and set to "Autodetect" under Bridged Networking. I've tried to set a static IP address within the dhcpd.conf using the code below: host ubuntu { hardware ethernet 00:50:56:35:0f:f1; fixed-address: 192.168.100.100; } The fixed-address that I've used is also outside the range specified in the subnet block (which in this case is 192.168.100.128 to 192.168.100.254). I've tried adding and removing the network adapter and restarting my Mac after each time to no avail. • Photo Gallery Software - reads from a local directory - watches folder- user and group permissions

  Use Case: Photos are organised in a folder structure by date (by software lightroom/picasa) Want to run a local webserver to host a web gallery from (already know how to run lamp etc) I want to be able to attach metadata to the photos (probably through a database not residing in the photos folder) such that they can be tagged/categoried/albumed without affecting the original photos I want to be able to assign permissions to different albums to set users I want the software to watch the photo source folder for changes so that new photos are indexed ready for applying metadata and albums. I'd like the software to handle the rendering of numerous file types (photo formats) as well as video formatts I am language agnostic so php/python heck even c#, just want software that forfills the requirements. The main reason I am asking this question here as I am unsure what this software would even be called so google searching is quite difficult! Thanks for reading.

  I have a Windows 7 Ultimate - 64 bit Operating System When I'm trying to create virtual machine Windows Server 2008 64 bit I'm getting the same error neither with Virtual PC or Workstation 7.1 Error: 64 bit guest operating systems are not supported by this host and will not run and Status: 0xc000035a info: Attempting to load a 64 bit application however this CPU is not compatible with 64 bit mode. Is it any settings I'm missing or can you give me a suggestion about workaround, or what do I need to make it work.

• CDN virtual subdomain causes duplicated content

  I have created a subdomain and a CNAME record which points to the domain root. The subdomain www.static.example.com is actually a copy of the entire website www.example.com and it is supposed to act as an CDN and serve static content in order to improve speed. However, all of my content can be accessed via subdomain aswell, so Google has indexed it all and now I am dealing with duplicated content. How could I deny access to crawlers for the subdomain baring in mind that I do not have different subfolder for subdomain, so I can't create a separate robots.txt file?
