• What's a good algorithm for searching arrays N and M, in order to find elements in N that also exist

  I have two arrays, N and M. they are both arbitrarily sized, though N is usually smaller than M. I want to find out what elements in N also exist in M, in the fastest way possible. To give you an example of one possible instance of the program, N is an array 12 units in size, and M is an array 1,000 units in size. I want to find which elements in N also exist in M. (There may not be any matches.) The more parallel the solution, the better. I used to use a hash map for this, but it's not quite as efficient as I'd like it to be. Typing this out, I just thought of running a binary search of M on sizeof(N) independent threads. (Using CUDA) I'll see how this works, though other suggestions are welcome.

• config.cache_classes = true in production mode has problems in IE

  Hi Dears, In my rails app. I am using link_to_function to bring an ajax tabs in one page.Everything works fine in Moazilla and other browsers. But in IE the tabs are not loading only when the server is started in production mode(doesn't matter whether its webrick or mongrel). In development mode everything is fine. So I figured out that the issue was with one line config.cache_classes = true in app/config/environments/production.rb when i changed the above code to config.cache_classes = false everything works fine. So I assume caching causes problem in rails. When I Googled about this I found many have the issues with caching. So my question is 1) is there any other fix for this? 2) Does this fix (config.cache_classes = false) causes any performance issues. If then how to overcome that? • Generate accessors in Visual C++ 2008

  Hi, I'm trying to generate the accessors and mutators for my variables automatically, but just can't find a way. I tried the right-click/refactor... solution, but the refactor item doesn't appear. I'm not in the mood right now to learn how to write a macro to do this, and I don't have the money to buy a commercial solution (internship student). Any help is welcome, I don't feel like writing all my get/set by hand. note : it's C++ so the {get;set} syntax doesn't work (or does it ?).

• How do I make a UIAlertView happen only on the first start-up of an iPhone app?

  I'm using the UIAlertView to make a pop-up happen once the app has started up. It works fine but I only want the pop up to happen on the first start-up of the app. At the moment I've got the UIAlertView in the AppDelegate class, after the application didFinishLaunching. • Mac OS X: Best way to do runtime check for retina display?

  Given a Cocoa application which runs on Mac OS X 10.7 and later: What is the best way to check, at runtime, if your app is currently running on a Mac with at least one retina display attached? If checking for this sort of thing is just really wrong-headed, I fully welcome a well-reasoned explanation of why. But I'd still like to know :). It seems likely you could just do a check specifically for the new Mac Book Pro "Retina" hardware (the only Mac at this time which currently has a retina display), but ideally, I'd really prefer a more general/generic/future-proof way to check than this. Ideally, I'd like to know how to detect the retina display, not the specific Mac model which currently happens to ship with a retina display.

• How to do MVC form url formatting?

  I am using PHP. I want to create an MVC setup from scratch to learn more about how MVC works. I want to use clean urls with slashes as delimiters for the arguments. How do people do this when it comes to GET method forms? Or do people avoid GET method forms all together? As of right now the ways I can imagine are: Don't use GET method forms (although this makes it harder to let users bookmark/link in some cases). Use AJAX instead of form submission (although what do you do for SEO and JS disablers?). Have page submit to itself with post method, then reform the post vars into an url, then rerout to that url using headers (seems like wasted resources). Any suggestions or suggested reading welcome.

• How do I back up a remote SVN repository

  Hi all I am currently moving my SVN server from my home server to my remote server so I can access it more easily from other locations. My remote server is not backed up so I want to regularly back it up to my home server. Remote server is Windows 2003 server. Home server is Windows Home Server. What is the best way to do this? can I get my home server to get a dump of the remote server every night? Bandwidth isn't a huge consideration but if I could just copy any new checkins to an SVN server on my home server that would be fine. Any suggestions welcome. Thanks

  Hi, I am trying to debug a program using ddd. When I try to enter any function, or within main() itself, I get the following warning: warning: (Internal error: pc 0x804a6b0 in read in psymtab, but not in symtab.) This warning flashes whenever I try to move to another instruction using 'n' or enter or leave a function. I have tried to look this up in other forums, but with no conclusive answer. The code I am trying to debug runs into several files and I am not sure if I can post the entire code here. I am using g++ version: g++ (GCC) 4.4.1 20090725 (Red Hat 4.4.1-2) Any help on this is most welcome. Thanks, Sriram.

  I am doing a school project where we need to create an android application which needs to connect to a database. the application needs to gain and store information for people's profiles on the database. But unfortunatly we are a little bit stuck at this point because there are numerous ways to link the application such as http request through apache or through the SOAP/REST protocol. But it's really hard to find good instructions or tutorials on the problem since I can't really find them. Maybe that's cause i'm probably using the wrong words on google. Unfortunately I have little relevant information. So if anyone can help me with finding relevant links to good online tutorials or howto's than those are very welcome.

• Django: How/Where to store a value for a session without unnecessary DB hits

  Hi all, I have an extended userprofile with AUTH_PROFILE_MODULE (ref: http://tinyurl.com/yhracqq) I would like to set a user.is_guru() method similar to user.is_active(). This would results for al views (or rather templates) to e.g. disable/enable certain user messages, displaying of widgets, etc. The boolean is stored in the extended user profile model, but I want to avoid hitting the DB for every view. So the questions is .. Do I use a context_processor, a template tag, session_dict or what have you to, possible cached, store this info for the duration of the users visit. Note: I dont have performance issues, so it's definitely filed under premature optimization. I just want to avoid generating extra work in the future :). Any pointers are very welcome. • Spring mvc: controller returns [][], usable in jsp with foreach, but how to bind?

  I'm building a spring mvc application. Now the problem I have is the following. I have a controller which adds a DayInfo[][] to my ModelMap. (DayInfo has an id, a title (String) and Text(also String). Now the problem I have is that I have no problem displaying this DayInfo[][] with foreach tags in my jsp. However I'm outputting the Title property as an input box(type text), and I'd like to be able to update this value (and thus saving it to be a database but that shouldn't be a problem). However I'm having trouble with binding this value to the input box so that it is actually returned to the controller. If anyone has some advice it would be welcome.

Will there be conflicts on the toString? Or can Class1 use Base2::toString to satisfy IBase? Like I say there are lots of other things not shown, so suggestions for major design changes on this example are probably not that helpful... though any general suggestions/advice are welcome.

• Add widgets to custom WordPress sidebars on theme activation?

  I'm working on a WordPress 3.0 multi-site installation. Each new blog will use the same theme with slight modifications (a custom Thesis install, if it matters). I'm trying to automate the set-up process for each new blog as much as possible. To that end, I'd like to automatically add widgets to my custom sidebars and widget-enabled footers. It'd be even better if the widgets could have pre-set parameters/content, that I or the blog owner could then go into the Widgets panel and edit. • Serialising and Deserialising Requests and Responses exactly as WCF does

  I need to deserialise SOAP request XML to .Net request object and to serialise .Net response object to SOAP response XML. I need this to work exactly as WCF does, using the same XML element local names and namespace URIs. The .Net request and response classes were generated from WSDL using SVCUTIL. I have looked at XmlSerializer class, which does most of it, but doesn't take notice of certain WCF-specific custom attributes, like MessageBodyMemberAttribute. I also looked at DataContractSerializer, but that had exceedingly strange ideas about what element names and namespaces to use. Finally, I tried XmlSerializer with an XmlTypeMapping generated by a SoapReflectionImporter; this didn't seem to use any namespaces at all. I rather suspect that I need to be using one of the above techniques, but with some additional subtlety, of which I am unaware. But perhaps there is an entirely different approach? All suggestions welcome.

• Magento - Mage::getModel not working on remote server

  I'm struggling with an issue for which I can't find an explanation. I have two development environments that I use for my projects. I created a simple module for Magento and I tested it on one environment. After overcoming all Magento's complications, the module works as expected. This is on XAMPP. I then copied the module to the development Linux environment, on a hosted server, and it crashes miserably. I did some debugging, and I found out that a call to Mage::getModel() returns bool(false) instead of the instance of the Model I requested. I double checked all files and directories, and they match. Database is not involved (not from my side, at least, I don't need tables) and both environments have only me as a User, with Admin permissions. Any suggestion on where should I start looking is welcome, thanks.

• JRuby on Rails deployment

  I need to host a JRuby on Rails app on Mongrel. The problem is that I need to support mutual authentication. I know that I could just host it behind a Apache with mod_proxy use mod_ssl to pass the cred or part of the cred as a request header to rails. But I want the whole stack to be Java. Is there a Java application server that can do mod_proxy + ssl kind of configuration without me having to install Apache. Also, we need this to be platform independent. IIS or Apache+OpenSSL is actually not a preferred alternative. Any alternative deployment configurations are also welcome.

I am using Microsoft technologies, like ASP.Net, C#, .Net, SQL Server 2008, IIS and Windows Server 2008. Nowadays, more and more users are using 3G mobile phones, and I am wondering from software perspective, how to add new features to my web site (do I need a client application runs on mobile phone as well?) so that 3G users could have good user experience or new kinds of 3G specific applications?
