• Windows XP remove program files

  When I am trying to remove program from "Add or Remove Programs" I get an dialog with ability to chose instalation file. But I didn't have that file. So I can't remove program... Is there any another way to remove it? P.S. I need to remove it for install new version of it.

• Windows VPN - NO internet access

  I host a network of servers behind a Fortigate 200a firewall in the DC. I connect to those servers via a VPN connection. The problem is that when i connect to the VPN, I lose my internet connection on the local PC (windows 7). I would like to be connected to the VPN and still surf the web. i guess this means to only forward a range of ip to the VPN connection. I've read other answers on serverfault, talking about "un-check the 'Use default gateway on remote network' option in your Windows 7 PPTP network connection settings". When i do that , i get internet access but no access to the servers in the VPN. Any idea how to get both working? Should i change something on the fortigate 200a config? Do i need two networks cards? Is there a place in windows to define ip range for the vpn connection?

• How to charge an iPhone on a Windows PC without Installing iTunes

  I want to be able to charge my iPhone on my work computer, which is running Windows Server 2008 SP1 64-Bit. When I plug the iPhone in with the USB cable, it will not charge. Windows attempts to locate a driver for the device but only comes up with a generic Camera device and even if I allow that to be installed, the iPhone still does not charge. I have checked the computer's BIOS settings and did not find anything relating to power on the USB devices. I also tried this on ports at the back of the computer in addition to those on the front. The PC is a Dell Optiplex 780. As far as I can tell USB devices do not charge unless Windows has installed an appropriate driver. Since it is a work computer I do not want to install iTunes which does include a driver. I have a workaround that I will post as an answer for reference.

  i have one windows 2008 server & windows xp clients. one HP2600n is connected to network with network cable, and installed in server and shared. also same printer is shared on xp cleints. the problem is: once cleints send print it come to the server que and stuck there untill we manually restart printer spooler service. once we restart the service all the prints in QUE prints and after that new prints again stuck in QUE till next manually restart. how can we solve this problem?   I just restarted my laptop to finish installing a Windows update and now it is stuck on please wait. I have tried a system restore but there is only one restore point in the list and it does not work for some reason... I also tried to do a refresh but it asks me for media. I plug in the usb I used to install windows 8 a while and go and says that the media failed to load. I'm kind of stuck on options now. I can't boot and I can't restore and it seems I cant format either! Is there anything anything else I can do to get things going?! I'm running Windows 8 on a dell xps 14 ultrabook. Win 8 is installed on an msata drive and booting using EFi.

• cpu usage nearly 100 constantly windows xp sp3

  When running some heavy applications like games or virtual box for some time.. the cpu usage is normal for some 15 mins and then suddently cpu usage increases. even after i quit the heavy apps and when i start some other apps, the cpu usage of the new opened application is also very high.. this continues until i reboot the system. There is single particular process occupy more cpu. All the processes cpu usage is little high than normal.. Any solutions?

• Unable to install .NET Framework 3.5 to my XP machine

  I have an application that requires .NET 3.5, but I can't install it. The installer quits saying "it has encoutered a problem during setup. If I look at some of the error logs in the tmp directory I see. Error occurred while initializing fusion. It seems that I have 2.0 SP1 installed. Any ideas how I can get it to work? I went through the temp directory and found these references to the error. Any ideas?   I've installed windows 8 and during setup it wanted my email. I provided an alternative email (let's call it email_1) for the installation to complete. Then I've installed windows live (msn only), for which I use another email (email_2). Now, every time I start windows and open msn, I'm signed in with email_1. I selected "forget me" for email_1 address in the msn login window, but I'm somehow always signed in with email_1. Is there any way to completely remove email_1 from the msn?

• Stereo mix causing inaudible input in XP?

However, my headset microphone is quiet at the best of times, and no matter what combination of input and output volume settings I use, my voice is consistently inaudible. Know of a good fix for this? Should I be looking for a decent audio mixer--and if so, do you know of one that's as effective as it is free?

And after some searching and reading I realised that hyper-v is not supported. Is there any possibilities that I can run my Windows phone 8 emulator on a remote Hyper-V 2012 server? • 'DNS service isn't responding' in windows 7

  Hi All, I bought a brand new Dell Studio 1558 just last week. It has windows 7 home premium 64-bit installed on it. My friend who is occupying the adjacent room has a laptop with windows XP. Both of us are connecting to the same wireless router of the hotel. My friend is able to connect to the wireless network without any trouble, but when I try to connect, I get the error "DNS service isn't responding". I met two more people in the same hotel with win XP laptop and they too dont have any problem. I have gone to possibly all the forums and website but I haven't been able to fix this error :(. I have done all the basic troubleshooting but I have no luck yet. Pls help. • xp stop error 50 page fault in non paged area

  I have a laptop that fails to boot with the BSOD error: "page_fault_in_non_paged_area" STOP: 0x00000050 (0xEC6B738D, 0x00000000, 0x8649308C, 0x00000000) The laptop has 2 memory DIMMs. I removed each DIMM one at a time and the error remained with just one DIMM installed. I have run spinrite 6.0 on the hard drive no errors found. Booted to recovery mode and ran CHKDSK /R, it found and fixed errors but still gets the stop error. Any other suggestions to try?

  I have this strange problem where I create a database in MySQL and I need to restart mysqld but I can't seem to do it with info the MySQL docs. Then, I kill it from the Task Manager and I can't restart it. When I look at the process, it is run by the SYSTEM, rather than me. When I run mysqld it starts the process by me, not the SYSTEM. Am I shutting it down incorrectly? IS there a way to start this daemon as the SYSTEM?

• Windows 8 FN key doesn't work for brightness

  I have an Asus laptop with Windows 8 and fn+f5/fn+f6 keys (for brightness) doesn't work. In fact, they work, but they can increase/decrease the brightness only 1 time. I mean - after pressing fn+f5 once, nothing happens if I try to press fn+f5 again, before I press fn+f6. This only happens after logging in. At the login screen and during Windows boot I can adjust the brightness as I want, but after login I can't. I installed the latest ATK driver and NVIDIA graphics driver for Windows 8, and I think that my problem is related to conflict with drivers. I tried to reinstall/delete some drivers, but it didn't help. How can I detect where is the problem? Thanks.

  I have a very old application designed for Windows 3.1. I have been able to use this application on Windows 7, however, that was Windows 7 32bit. Now I have since re-installed Windows to 64bit, and this application does not work, saying it's incompatible. I have tried running the application (and its other side-applications) in Windows '95 mode, but still the same message. How can I run this old app on 64bit Windows? For the record, the application is a game called "Sim Tower"

• Prevent Windows 7 from unpluging External HDD [migrated]

  I have installed Windows 7 as my media server. I pluged in 500GB external HDD via USB. I have changed power plan to Best Performance and changed advenced power settings to never turn off HDD etc. I even yesterday wrote powershell script (create and delete folder on this disk) and I have added it to harmonogram to run every 5 minutes starting from system boot. And nothing! Disk after some time (I realy can't say when) is turning off and Windows show "Unknown Device" in Device Manager. Then only system reboot or disk reboot helps. Any ideas how to prevent Windows 7 from stopping my external HDD? Cheers!

  I have a Windows Vista Home Premium and I tried installing SP2 on it and It prompted me to install SP1. Then it stopped working when I installed SP1. I don't have back up that I can use to restore it. When I use the Windows Repair mode I am unable to get access to few options none of which is working. I do have access to the command prompt. Is there way to restore this? If I am planning to upgrade to Windows 7 Home Premium what are the steps?

• Win XP shut down window very slow to appear

  Hi all, I click Start-Shut Down and the Shut Down window takes 5 minutes to appear. This problem doesn't happen after a fresh boot, it only happens after I have been logged on for awhile. I am using a MacBookPro with Bootcamp. The machine actually shuts down quickly, its just really slow to bring up the shut down window. Basically I would like to know if: 1) Anyone has any ideas why this would happen 2) Who owns the "Shut Down" window (i.e. what happens on the OS after I click the Shut Down icon in the start menu) I've tried perusing the task manager to try and see if any processes look suspicious, but to no avail. thanks, H

• Sign out of messenger on Windows 8

  I just installed the Windows 8 Consumer Preview. Just going through the default procedure, I let it use my Xbox Live account to create a user. When I then went and turned on my Xbox, it now notified me that I was logged into Messenger in two locations. I went back to Windows 8, and turned my Live account into a local account on that machine. But when I then turned the Xbox again, I got the same message. Is there a way to just 'sign out of messenger' on Windows 8? Or is there a location to even see where I am signed in at?

  I have a problem with my search in Windows 8. When I search through the Modern UI style (WinF) for files, it won't return a single result from none of my drives. Searching via Windows Explorer works fine. I had the same problem in Windows 8 Consumer Preview, but it worked in Developer Preview. And I looked on the net for other users with similar problems, but I haven't found anything. Is there someone who knows what the problem might be?

• How can I migrate local users/groups from old Windows 2000 server to new Windows 2003 server?

  On a Windows 2000 box I have setup local users and one group for the purposes of ftp sites for our clients to transfer files to their own site. We are now moving to a different server running Windows 2003. I would like to be able to transfer the users/group and related folders with permissions to the new server without setting them all back up by hand. I see tools available for migrating users to Active Directory but nothing for local to local migration. How should I go about doing this? Is there a capability already built into Windows 2000/2003 for this purpose? Thanks

  I have following problem: When I try to change size of any explorer window from maximized to some size getting following screen It blinks 20-30 times, then crashes. • Reset my windows server 2003

  I was recently given an HP Proliant Server from a friend as a gift. It has Windows Server 2003 installed on it. When I go to boot the system however to log in to Windows Server 2003 it requires an Admin password. I can't figure out the password and my friend doesn't know it either as it has been years since hes used the machine. I don't care about any of the data on the machine I just want to have a new clean version of Windows server 2003 running on it. Any advice would be helpful? And no I don't want to pay for a password cracking tool. Thanks
