• java framework for a web wizard

  I'd like to create a web wizard or a wizard on/within a website. I know there are several java frameworks for wizards but there is none for the web in particular. If I search for a framework, I always get wizards to create a website, applet, servlet and what not. But never how to create such a wizard itself. So the question(s) is: What framework should I use to create a web wizard? And what frameworks are there? The wizard will be the visualisation for a BPEL Process deployment on a apache ode. I thought a webapp would be an easy way because the apache is running anyway. I'm not bound to that, perhaps someone has a better idea.

• Basic Ubuntu FTP Server

  I would like to setup a basic FTP server on my Ubuntu Server install. I have been playing with VSFTPD, but am having issues getting the server to allow me to create directories and copy files. I have set the system to allow local users, but it appears that doesn't mean I get access to create directories. This may be an instance where I need to be better grounded in Unbuntu server setup in order to configure this FTP server adequately. The end goal is to be able to move files from my local dev folder into my www folder for deployment. Directories need to be able to move as well. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

• Where should the database and mail parameters be stored in a Symfony2 app?

  In the default folder structure for a Symfony2 project the database and mail server credentials are stored in parameters.yml file inside ProjectRoot/app/config/parameters.yml with these default values: parameters: database_driver: pdo_mysql database_host: 127.0.0.1 database_port: null database_name: symfony database_user: root database_password: null mailer_transport: smtp mailer_host: 127.0.0.1 mailer_user: null mailer_password: null locale: en secret: ThisTokenIsNotSoSecretChangeIt During development we change these parameters to the development database and mail servers. This file is checked into the source code repository. The problem is when we want to deploy to the production server. We are thinking about automating the deployment process by checking out the project from git and deploy it to the production server. The thing is that our project manager has to manually update these parameters after each update. The production database and mail servers parameters are confidential and only our project manager knows them. I need a way to automate this step and suggestion on where to store the production parameters until they are applied?

• Looking for a customizable "Did you know..." dialog application

  I want to deploy a "Did you know..." or "Tip of the day" application at the office. It should: Show a dialog at login time with a random tip. Obviously, provide some way to store my own tips. Be easy to disable and reenable by the user itself. I'm using puppet, so I'm covered with the deployment. The tips don't even need to be gathered from a server, since I can deploy the newest tips file/database with no costs. Sure, I could hack a quick solution by using zenity and bash, but I'd like to know if there's any application out there specifically targeted at this. I don't like the zenity approach very much because it's very limited on the contents that can be displayed. No text alongside screenshots, for example. Zenity is aimed towards displaying simple dialogs.

  I'm doing some research on the best GUI toolkit to use for future products at the company. We're talking about a fairly large organizations with quite a bit of code and a complete rewrite project in planning. Don't ask. Anyway, I'm trying to create a list relevant parameters to judge the toolkits. What would you use to drive the comparison? Here's what I've got so far: Maturity Ease of development Ease of prototyping Ease of maintenance Size of hiring pool Available knowledge at the company Training costs Community size Community level of expertise (how hard to find good answers to complex problems) Amount of expert-level books available Ability to interface to other technologies Deployment considerations Visual aesthetics Ability to access OS resources Multiple monitor support (something that might come in handy in our particular application)

• Can using an apt proxy (d-i mirror/http/proxy string http://mymirror) affect the installation of a .deb?

  I have been doing Ubuntu deployment using a preseed.cfg. After becoming comfortable with the packages being installed it was time to reduce download time and internet traffic by creating a mirror. I ended up doing a "partial mirror" using apt-cacher-ng and preseeding it by adding d-i mirror/http/proxy string http://mymirror to the preseed.cfg. This is where things got strange. I have a few .debs that I run as part of preseed/late_command by wgetting them and installing them with dpkg -i. The packages were installing without issue until added the proxy. With the proxy they fail to install. So does the proxy affect installing .debs during preseeded installation?

• Diagramming software with API allowing high customisation of shapes and actions

  I am after something like Visio or Lucid. A relatively simple charting/diagramming tool, to build tree-like structures from (my) pre-defined nodes (squares), but with a powerful API. Requirements: limit the type of objects allowed to be dropped on the diagram validate a model (e.g. node of type A must precede node of type B; must enter node Title) export a model import a model Our domain is very specific, and its a tool we'd want to offer to some of our power users. The $500 Visio licence isn't really within the business model. I'll put no constraints on framework or deployment (web or desktop) - is there anything out there?

• What can I use to set up a 100% cloud based python IDE + Hosting environment?

  I'm working a side project and I can't always be on "my" machine to code/deploy the web application. I am aware of various cloud IDEs (e.g., Cloud 9 IDE) and independent Django/Flask etc., hosting services (e.g., Heroku). What is the best way to completely shift my development/deployment environment to the cloud so that I can code/deploy from anywhere? I don't mind using paid services but I'm not sure which cloud IDEs play nice with which hosting services. Has anyone tried this setup before? What has or hasn't worked? I want to minimize the manual intervention in 'connecting the two services' as much as possible. I'm going to be using Django, MySQL and Redis for the web-app

To begin with, check out what's new in this release: Authenticating Against an External Directory Booking Window for Calendars Changes to the davadmin Command Enable and Disable Account Autocreation LDAP Pools New Configuration Parameters New Languages New populate-davuniqueid Utility New Schema Objects Non-active Calendar Accounts Are No Longer Searched or Fetched Remote Document Store Authentication The upgrade is a bit more complicated than normal, as you must first apply some new schema elements to your Directory Server(s). To do so, you need to get the comm_dssetup 6.4 patch, patch the comm_dssetup script, and then run the patched comm_dssetup against your Directory Server(s) instances. In addition, if you are using the nsUniqueId attribute as your deployment's unique identifier, you'll want to change that to the new davUniqueId attribute. Consult the Upgrade Procedure for details, as well as DaBrain's blog, before forging ahead with this upgrade.   A default JEE agent is created when you create domain, which is named as OracleDIAgent. 1. In Studio, duplicate the agent, change its name to genAgent, change the web application context to genagent. 2: Go to datasource of genAgent, drop all datasources.3: Generate server template. put the jar file under odi\common\templates\wls 4: Deploy this template by update the existing domain. Bring up the config.cmd, choose update existing domain. 5: Update the domain using the template that just generated. Go through the Configuration wizard. (I did not modify anything or configure anything here). 6: The wizard will give information says the deployment was successful. 7: Bring up the admin server and ODI_server1.

• Term for Production Rollback

  The firm I work at keeps a copy of the compiled source code on production. So basically on our Production server, we have two folders: ProductionServer\SourceCode\ ProductionServer\SourceCodeRollback\ The Rollback folder always contains one version older code. This is done so that on deployment nights, if something is wrong with the new code, the deployer(who is not familiar with source control software) has the older version to revert back to. My question is: Is there an official computer science term/nomenclature for the Rollback folder? Or is "Rollback" itself the official term?

• MSM Merge Modules in Visual Studio 2013 [on hold]

  Could someone please let me know where I might find resources for creating MSM files? While I am able to create MSI files using InstallShield, it seems that Visual Studio no longer supports Merge Module Projects, judging by the link below and the screenshot of my version of Visual Studio 2013 - http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/z6z02ts5(v=vs.80).aspx To create a new merge module project: On the File menu, point to Add, then click New Project. In the resulting Add New Project dialog box, in the Project types pane, open the Other Project Types node and select Setup and Deployment Projects. In the Templates pane, choose Merge Module Project.

I'm presenting in a session entitled "What’s New with Oracle VM Server for x86 and SPARC Architectures: A Technical Deep Dive", along with Adam Hawley. We'll be talking about Oracle's overall virtualization strategy, what's new with Oracle server virtualization on both x86 and SPARC, as well as an update on Oracle's virtualization management capabilities. The session runs from 11:45am to 12:45pm on Wednesday 10/3, in Moscone South - room 252. You can also find me at the Oracle VM Server for SPARC booth on Monday morning and Tuesday afternoon to showcase some pretty cool upcoming features for SPARC virtualization.
