  • Redirect 'myapp.com' to 'www.myapp.com' in rails without using htaccess?

    - by Allan L.
    Using Morph Labs' Appspace to deploy a site means no automated way to redirect 'myapp.com' to 'www.myapp.com' (and no access to .htacess). Is there an in-rails way to do this? Would I need a plugin like subdomain-fu? More specifically, I'm trying to do something like: 'myapp.com' = 'www.myapp.com' 'myapp.com/session/new' = 'www.myapp.com/session/new' Basically, I always want the 'www' subdomain prepended on every request (because the SSL cert specifically has a common name of 'www.myapp.com').

  • NoMethodError for time_zone_select in a form

    - by Jack
    I've set up my app exactly in line with the Railscasts Time Zone Episode 1 but when I run <%= f.time_zone_select :time_zone, ActiveSupport::TimeZone.us_zones %> I get this error NoMethodError in Users#new Showing app/views/users/new.html.erb where line #27 raised: You have a nil object when you didn't expect it! You might have expected an instance of Array. The error occurred while evaluating nil.<= With line 27 being the aforementioned line. I am really stuck on this...

  • How to return children objects?

    - by keruilin
    I have -- what I think -- is a simple question. Here's my code: class Fruit < ActiveRecord::Base end class Apple < Fruit end class Kiwi < Fruit end Assume that I have all the STI setup correctly, and there are multiple types of Apple and Kiwi records in the table. From here... fruits = Fruit.find(:all) ...how do I return an array of just Apples from the fruits array?

  • How to do case-insensitive order in Rails with postgresql

    - by brad
    I am in the process of switching my development environment from sqlite3 to postgresql 8.4 and have one last hurdle. In my original I had the following line in a helper method; result = Users.find(:all, :order => "name collate NOCASE") which provided a very nice case-insensitive search. I can't replicate this for postgresql. Should be easy - any ideas? Thanks.

  • Why does the OAuth Unauthorized Error (401) happen?

    - by ming yeow
    Sometimes an Twitter OAuth is successfully executed, but an unauthorized error is thrown. I get about 50 of these on a daily basis. It is worrying, because I have no idea how that might be reproduced. What are the different cases where this error happens, and how can this be fixed or prevented?

  • Populating an association with children in factory_girl

    - by Craig Walker
    I have a model Foo that has_many 'Bar'. I have a factory_girl factory for each of these objects. The factory for Bar has an association to Foo; it will instantiate a Foo when it creates the Bar. I'd like a Factory that creates a Foo that contains a Bar. Ideally this Bar would be created through the :bar factory, and respect the build strategy (create/build) used to create the Foo. I know I could just call the :bar factory and then grab the Foo reference from the new Bar. I'd like to avoid this; in my test case, the important object is Foo; calling the Bar factory seems a bit circuitous. Also, I can see the need for a Foo with multiple Bars. Is this possible in factory_girl? How do you define this relationship in the parent?

  • How do I set default search conditions with Searchlogic?

    - by Danger Angell
    I've got a search form on this page: http://staging-checkpointtracker.aptanacloud.com/events If you select a State from the dropdown you get zero results because you didn't select one or more Event Division (checkboxes). What I want is to default the checkboxes to "checked" when the page first loads...to display Events in all Divisions...but I want changes made by the user to be reflected when they filter. Here's the index method in my Events controller: def index @search = Event.search(params[:search]) respond_to do |format| format.html # index.html.erb format.xml { render :xml => @events } end end Here's my search form: <% form_for @search do |f| %> <div> <%= f.label :state_is, "State" %> <%= f.select :state_is, ['AK','AL','AR','AZ','CA','CO','CT','DC','DE','FL','GA','HI','IA','ID','IL','IN','KS','KY','LA','MA','MD','ME','MI','MN','MO','MS','MT','NC','ND','NE','NH','NJ','NM','NV','NY','OH','OK','OR','PA','RI','SC','SD','TN','TX','UT','VA','VT','WA','WI','WV','WY'], :include_blank => true %> </div> <div> <%= f.check_box :division_like_any, {:name => "search[:division_like_any][]"}, "Sprint", :checked => true %> Sprint (2+ hours)<br/> <%= f.check_box :division_like_any, {:name => "search[:division_like_any][]"}, "Sport" %> Sport (12+ hours)<br/> <%= f.check_box :division_like_any, {:name => "search[:division_like_any][]"}, "Adventure" %> Adventure (18+ hours)<br/> <%= f.check_box :division_like_any, {:name => "search[:division_like_any][]"}, "Expedition" %> Expedition (48+ hours)<br/> </div> <%= f.submit "Find Events" %> <%= link_to 'Clear', '/events' %> <% end %>

  • How will Arel affect rails' includes() 's capabilities.

    - by Tim Snowhite
    I've looked over the Arel sources, and some of the activerecord sources for Rails 3.0, but I can't seem to glean a good answer for myself as to whether Arel will be changing our ability to use includes(), when constructing queries, for the better. There are instances when one might want to modify the conditions on an activerecord :include query in 2.3.5 and before, for the association records which would be returned. But as far as I know, this is not programmatically tenable for all :include queries: (I know some AR-find-includes make t#{n}.c#{m} renames for all the attributes, and one could conceivably add conditions to these queries to limit the joined sets' results; but others do n_joins + 1 number of queries over the id sets iteratively, and I'm not sure how one might hack AR to edit these iterated queries.) Will Arel allow us to construct ActiveRecord queries which specify the resulting associated model objects when using includes()? Ex: User :has_many posts( has_many :comments) User.all(:include => :posts) #say I wanted the post objects to have their #comment counts loaded without adding a comment_count column to `posts`. #At the post level, one could do so by: posts_with_counts = Post.all(:select => 'posts.*, count(comments.id) as comment_count', :joins => 'left outer join comments on comments.post_id = posts.id', :group_by => 'posts.id') #i believe #But it seems impossible to do so while linking these post objects to each #user as well, without running User.all() and then zippering the objects into #some other collection (ugly) #OR running posts.group_by(&:user) (even uglier, with the n user queries)

  • accepts_nested_attributes_for ignore blank values

    - by Mike
    i have class Profile has_many :favorite_books, :dependent => :destroy has_many :favorite_quotes, :dependent => :destroy accepts_nested_attributes_for :favorite_books, :allow_destroy => true accepts_nested_attributes_for :favorite_quotes, :allow_destroy => true end I have a dynamic form where you press '+' to add new textareas for creating new favorites. What i want to do is ignore the blank ones, I find this harder to sort through in the update controller than a non nested attribute. What i have temporarily is a hack in the after_save callback deleting the empty records. Whats the most rails way to ignore these blank objects? I dont want validation and errors, just a silent deletion/ignore.

  • resource_controller get rid of setting flash notice?

    - by goodwill
    I am talking about rails resource_controller gem plugin here: Basically when I am doing json format, I would like to completely suppress the flash notice if possible, trying to call flash "" will fail, while calling flash[:notice]="" doesn't look really nice either. Is there some better approach?

  • Creating a new nested resource

    - by Bobby B
    I'm working on a basic garden logging application which consists of gardens, plants and planted plants. Each user has one or many gardens, plants are master definitions, and a planted plant can be thought of as an instance of a plant in a specific user's garden. In my routes.rb file I have the following: map.resources :gardens do |gardens| gardens.resources :planted_plants, :has_many => :plant_log_entries, :collection => { :filter => :post, :choose_garden => :post} gardens.resources :garden_log_entries end map.resources :plants This makes sense to me when retrieving a list of planted_plants in a user's garden, but I'd like to create a planted_plant record from the index of plant. The problem is, a user can have multiple gardens. How can I create a new form for a planted_plant that allows the user to specify which garden should be used? The current route requires a garden_id - which makes sense for retrieval, but I'd like to supply that as a parameter for creation. Thanks in advance for any help!

    Hello, I would like to check what colors is present in a image. This will be stored in the database and used for a search form. • Getting Paperclip to work in Rails

    - by Danny McClelland
    Hi Everyone, I have installed the Paperclip plugin to attempt to upload an avatar for my kase model. For some reason, the select the file button shows, and I can choose a file - but then when I click update the kase - it takes me to the show page, but the missing.png rather than the selected image. kase.rb class Kase < ActiveRecord::Base def self.all_latest find(:all, :order => 'created_at DESC', :limit => 5) end def self.search(search, page) paginate :per_page => 5, :page => page, :conditions => ['name like ?', "%#{search}%"], :order => 'name' end # Paperclip has_attached_file :avatar, :styles => { :medium => "300x300>", :thumb => "100x100>" } end kases_controller.rb # GET /kases/new # GET /kases/new.xml def new @kase = Kase.new respond_to do |format| format.html # new.html.erb format.xml { render :xml => @kase } end end new.html.erb <% content_for :header do -%> Cases <% end -% <% form_for(@kase) do |f| %> <%= f.error_messages %> <ul id="kases_new"> <li> <%= f.file_field :avatar %></li> <li>Job Ref.<span><%= f.text_field :jobno %></span></li> <li>Case Subject<span><%= f.text_field :casesubject %></span></li> <li>Transport<span><%= f.text_field :transport %></span></li> <li>Goods<span><%= f.text_field :goods %></span></li> <li>Date Instructed<span><%= f.date_select :dateinstructed %></span></li> <li>Case Status<span><%= f.select "kase_status", ['Active', 'On Hold', 'Archived'] %> </span></li> <li>Client Company Name<span><%= f.text_field :clientcompanyname %></span></li> <li>Client Company Address<span><%= f.text_field :clientcompanyaddress %></span></li> <li>Client Company Fax<span><%= f.text_field :clientcompanyfax %></span></li> <li>Case Handler Name<span><%= f.text_field :casehandlername %></span></li> <li>Case Handler Tel<span><%= f.text_field :casehandlertel %></span></li> <li>Case Handler Email<span><%= f.text_field :casehandleremail %></span></li> <li>Claimant Name<span><%= f.text_field :claimantname %></span></li> <li>Claimant Address<span><%= f.text_field :claimantaddress %></span></li> <li>Claimant Contact<span><%= f.text_field :claimantcontact %></span></li> <li>Claimant Tel<span><%= f.text_field :claimanttel %></span></li> <li>Claimant Mob<span><%= f.text_field :claimantmob %></span></li> <li>Claimant Email<span><%= f.text_field :claimantemail %></span></li> <li>Claimant URL<span><%= f.text_field :claimanturl %></span></li> <li>Comments<span><%= f.text_field :comments %></span></li> </ul> <div class="js_option"> <%= link_to_function "Show financial options.", "Element.show('finance_showhide');" %> </div> <div id="finance_showhide" style="display:none"> <ul id="kases_new_finance"> <li>Invoice Number<span><%= f.text_field :invoicenumber %></span></li> <li>Net Amount<span><%= f.text_field :netamount %></span></li> <li>VAT<span><%= f.text_field :vat %></span></li> <li>Gross Amount<span><%= f.text_field :grossamount %></span></li> <li>Date Closed<span><%= f.date_select :dateclosed %></span></li> <li>Date Paid<span><%= f.date_select :datepaid %></span></li> </ul> <div class="js_option"> <%= link_to_function "I'm confused!   • How can I serialize and communicate ActiveRecord instances across identical Rails apps?

    - by Blaine LaFreniere
    The main idea is that I have several worker instances of a Rails app, and then a main aggregate I want to do something like this with the following pseudo pseudo-code posts = Post.all.to_json( :include => { :comments => { :include => :blah } }) # send data to another, identical, exactly the same Rails app # ... # Fast forward to the separate but identical Rails app: # ... # remote_posts is the posts results from the first Rails app posts = JSON.parse(remote_posts) posts.each do |post| p = Post.new p = post p.save end I'm shying away from Active Resource because I have thousands of records to create, which would mean thousands of requests for each record. Unless there is a way to do it all in one request with Active Resource that is simple, I'd like to avoid it. Format doesn't matter. Whatever makes it convenient. The IDs don't need to be sent, because the other app will just be creating records and assigning new IDs in the "aggregate" system. The hierarchy would need to be preserved (E.g. "Hey other Rails app, I have genres, and each genre has an artist, and each artist has an album, and each album has songs" etc.)

  • How can I make named_scope in Rails return one value instead of an array?

    - by sameera207
    I want to write a [named scope] to get a record from its id. For example, I have a model called Event, and I want to simulate Event.find(id) with use of named_scope for future flexibility. I used this code in my model: named_scope :from_id, lambda { |id| {:conditions => ['id= ?', id] } } and I call it from my controller like Event.from_id(id). But my problem is that it returns an array of Event objects instead of just one object. Thus if I want to get event name, I have to write event = Event.from_id(id) event[0].name while what I want is event = Event.from_id(id) event.name Am I doing something wrong here?

  • Simple cropping with Paperclip

    - by collimarco
    I would like to crop images on upload using Paperclip to get square thumbs from the center of the original picture. I find out a method in documentation that seems to do exactly what I want: transformation_to(dst, crop = false) The problem is that I can't figure out where to use this method. It would be great to simply pass something as a parameter here: has_attached_file :picture, :styles = { :medium = "600x600", :thumb = "something here" }

  • converting Date object to TimeWithZone

    - by avaynshtok
    I need to convert a Date object into a TimeWithZone object representing the beginning of that day in a given time zone. The following approach works, but seems too convoluted as it requires me to convert the date to a string: ?> date = Date.parse("2010-02-17") => Wed, 17 Feb 2010 >> ActiveSupport::TimeZone['Eastern Time (US & Canada)'].parse(date.to_s) => Wed, 17 Feb 2010 00:00:00 EST -05:00 >> ActiveSupport::TimeZone['UTC'].parse(date.to_s) => Wed, 17 Feb 2010 00:00:00 UTC 00:00 Is there a better way I'm missing?

  • Nested Object Forms not working as expected

    - by Craig Walker
    I'm trying to get a nested model forms view working. As far as I can tell I'm doing everything right, but it still does not work. I'm on Rails 3 beta 3. My models are as expected: class Recipe < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :ingredients, :dependent => :destroy accepts_nested_attributes_for :ingredients attr_accessible :name end class Ingredient < ActiveRecord::Base attr_accessible :name, :sort_order, :amount belongs_to :recipe end I can use Recipe.ingredients_attributes= as expected: recipe = Recipe.new recipe.ingredients_attributes = [ {:name=>"flour", :amount=>"1 cup"}, {:name=>"sugar", :amount=>"2 cups"}] recipe.ingredients.size # -> 2; ingredients contains expected instances However, I cannot create new object graphs using a hash of parameters as shown in the documentation: params = { :name => "test", :ingredients_attributes => [ {:name=>"flour", :amount=>"1 cup"}, {:name=>"sugar", :amount=>"2 cups"}] } recipe = Recipe.new(params) recipe.name # -> "test" recipe.ingredients # -> []; no ingredient instances in the collection Is there something I'm doing wrong here? Or is there a problem in the Rails 3 beta?
