  A friend of mine has purchased a new laptop (Toshiba) with Windows 7 installed and has also purchased Outlook 2007 and atttmped to install it - the install worked ok, but I think he may have selected Exchange server when installing the first time - now it will not start, displaying message like "Your Microsoft Exchange Server is unavailable " Outlook 2007 should have been configued for Pop3 as he has a hotmail account, but Outlook will not load "offline" and despite me de-installing, re-installing, running repair, I cannot get it to load to a point where I can add a new email account. If any one has any ideas on this, I would apprecaite the help Thanks, Bob

• Secure email crashes Outlook 2007

  I have a number of secure emails sent to my Outlook 2007 client. Most arrive fine and display the prompt with regards to granting access to the certificate and then open. Today I received two that crash Outlook whenever I try to open them. I've tried restarting Outlook and my computer but still have the same problem. Any ideas what might be causing this, and how I can fix it? I'm working on Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit.

  Visual studio 2010 is an amzing release from Microsoft. I have tried the beta 1,2 of Visual Studio 2010 and finally the full version is released. I am also interested in the latest edition of Windows which nothing but our Windows 7. Next to Vista I like this version very much. Out of curiosity I have installed the prebuild version of Windows 7. I tried installing the express edition here and it failed making me disappointed. I tried two or three times and finally I decided to download the trial version of Windows 7. After that I can install the Visual Studio 2010 express edition easily. Other option is you can download the ISO image file and burn them to a disc or use a virtual disc This Visual Web developer will provide the Sql Server engine alone. Ah I forget to tell about the Silverlight.   When I get an email with an attachment in Outlook 2007 that I should be able to preview (ie - image, word doc, etc) I get the following error: This file cannot be previewed because of an error in the following previewer: Microsoft Outlook image previewer To open this file in its own program double-click it. (obviously the previewer changes name depending on the type) The computer is a clean install (it's only 5 days old) and I remember I was at one point able to preview within Outlook. I'd really like this feature to be back working, I've tried the usual exit Outlook, restart Windows, etc but to no avail.

Now, after our move to a new Exchange server, I now have a "Junk Email" folder and the existing "Junk Email1" folder. Is there a way to change the default Outlook Junk Email folder back to "Junk Email"?

  I have an IMAP server which sets an "account approaching quota" alert when an account is above 85%. For the majority of our users who are using Thunderbird, this works great as they receive the notice once to twice a day as a gentle reminder. Our few die-hard outlook users on the other hand get an annoying popup as often as their account gets polled. Does anyone know of a way to tell outlook to reuse IMAP connections to avoid this problem (or alternatively to disable Outlook reporting of alerts altogether)?

• Word 2010 - Styled paragraph separating into separate numbered lines

  USING WORD 2010 I have a style "Heading 4 Par" which is a style based on Heading 4. It is a numbered style. My problem is when I apply the "Heading 4 Par" to say a 3 lined paragraph it separates each of the lines in the paragraph and numbers it. I always show the formatting characters and as far as I can see there is only ONE paragraph mark situated at the end of what is supposed to be a paragraph. eg. Original: 7.4 Text.... text con't..... Text... After Applying Format: 7.4 Text... 7.4 text con't... 7.4 text con't. After I've applied the format it behaves as though each line should be the start of a new paragraph but there is no paragraph mark to show this. This is driving me crazy! Help!

  I want Microsoft Word 2010 to force split words exactly where the line ends, even if it is "wrong and unreadable". Font is some monotype (Courier New). The text is in Text field which has fixed width. I found some option in Text field Format - Wrap lines inside. But it only disables / enables whole wrapping. The text will be printed over uniform spaced boxes, each for one letter (postal order). Examples: Current: some text with | looooooooooong word | What i want: some text with looooooo | oooong word | I tried to google it for an hour, but everybody wants the exact opposite (hard spaces etc..)

  The Outlook Web App has this nice, default, conversation grouping. It hides all earlier messages in a conversation from the message list. When I click a mail, it shows the conversation thread in the reading pane. In Outlook 2007 I have tried grouping on received date, but it groups by minutes and not days. I've also tried grouping by conversation, but then I get this ugly tree in the list pane and I loose the "today", "yesterday", and vice versa groups.   I have a fairly old Outlook add-in written in VB6. This adds a toolbar on the Outlook ribbon with buttons for various bits of functionality which interact with emails in the inbox, the contact list and calendar. I have been asked if it would be possible to trigger some of the functions of this add-in when a user hits "Send" on an email. Does anyone know if it is possible to hook a VB6 program into the send event, or if it would be possible to write a new plugin, using .Net as an example, which could hook into the send event and trigger the functionality on the old plug in?? Sorry if this is a bit vague, it is a little hard to explain. If you need to know anything further, just ask, otherwise any advice is greatly appreciated!

  Hi All, I have running an Exchange Server 2003 and 2 IBM Laptops (A&B)with XP SP3. On both Laptops Office 2007 is installed. Laptop "A" Outlook doesn't show me my Calendar and Notes entries in my mailbox tree on Laptop "A". I can click on the calenendar tab and the entries are there. On Laptop "B" it is working fine. I know that I can make a "rigth click" on "mailbox" and choose "create new folder". Than I select i.g. my calendar. It creates it, but I can't access it through my mailbox tree. Clicking on the Calendar tab works fine again. So, the mailbox is fine (I think). There must be failure with Outlook. I tried these commands here with no positive result. Outlook /cleanviews Outlook /resetfolders I want to avoid a repair installation of Outlook, because the whole office needs to be repaired. (And both laptops belong to my boss) :) Thanks, Toby

• Hyperlinks on images in PDF from Word 2010

  I've got a Word 2010 document that I'm trying to convert to a PDF with "Save As...", preserving hyperlinks. Something odd is going on: Hyperlinks on inline text, or images that are inline, work fine. Hyperlinks on images with layout "in front of" text don't work in the PDF, same for hyperlinked drawing shapes. What I'm trying to do is make a "clickmap" image by putting an image on the page and overlaying parts of it with transparent shapes that hyperlink to different URLs. This isn't working, and the transparency has nothing to do with it - hyperlinks in the PDF seem only to work on "in line with text" elements. Am I missing something, or is there a better way to do this?

  Excel 2010 is automatically reformatting numbers/cells where a specific number format has already been applied. Whenever I access or modify the cell contents, Excel reformats by changing the number of decimal places to 2. I've already gone into file \ options \ advanced \ and made sure that the option to automatically add decimal places is unselected, but Excel still automatically makes the change. Very time consuming to continue reselecting number formats each time the cell contents are changed/accessed. Any ideas? Thx!

  Outlook 2007, starts at boot, minimized: suddenly, as of 2 weeks ago, when I click on the taskbar icon (Outlook already started but minimized) what opens on screen is a tiny "window" the size of the close-minimize-restore buttons. I then have to move it down the screen, and drag the borders to bring it to full size, or, sometimes, clicking on the restore button maximizes the tiny window: then, for days, it starts either the same way or in some other small size, not the same as I left it. I would appreciate suggestions on how to repair this particular example of Outlook not remembering its setting? win7, 64 bit. outlook 2007 32 bit

  I need to deploy the language packs for the ReportViewer 2010 control (the english one is installed and working perfectly). Before, with ReportViewer 2008 and 2005, all the supported laguages were available on the MS downloads site. I can't seem to find them for the RC of 2010 -- are they available anywhere? From MSDN: To use the localized version of the ReportViewer control redistributable that comes with Visual Studio, do the following: 1.Run ReportViewer.exe. 2.Navigate to the folder that contains the language pack you want to use. Language pack folders are located at %PROGRAMFILES%\Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v7.0A\BootStrapper\Packages\ReportViewer\. 3.Run ReportViewerLP.exe.   At work we have a C# solution with over 80 projects. Is it possible in VS 2010 to automatically stop compilation as soon as an error is encountered rather than the default behaviour which is to continue as far as possible and display a list of errors in the error window? I'm happy for it to stop either as soon as an error is encountered (file-level) or as soon as a project fails to build (project-level). I'd also note that in VS 2008 we used macros similar to some of the answers below but they don't work in VS 2010 (at least I couldn't get them to as the environment events don't seem to fire in VS 2010).
