  • Combining Shared Secret and Username Token – Azure Service Bus

    - by Michael Stephenson
As discussed in the introduction article this walkthrough will explain how you can implement WCF security with the Windows Azure Service Bus to ensure that you can protect your endpoint in the cloud with a shared secret but also flow through a username token so that in your listening WCF service you will be able to identify who sent the message. This could either be in the form of an application or a user depending on how you want to use your token. Prerequisites Before going into the walk through I want to explain a few assumptions about the scenario we are implementing but to keep the article shorter I am not going to walk through all of the steps in how to setup some of this. In the solution we have a simple console application which will represent the client application. There is also the services WCF application which contains the WCF service we will expose via the Windows Azure Service Bus. The WCF Service application in this example was hosted in IIS 7 on Windows 2008 R2 with AppFabric Server installed and configured to auto-start the WCF listening services. I am not going to go through significant detail around the IIS setup because it should not matter in relation to this article however if you want to understand more about how to configure WCF and IIS for such a scenario please refer to the following paper which goes into a lot of detail about how to configure this. The link is: http://tinyurl.com/8s5nwrz   The Service Component To begin with let's look at the service component and how it can be configured to listen to the service bus using a shared secret but to also accept a username token from the client. In the sample the service component is called Acme.Azure.ServiceBus.Poc.UN.Services. It has a single service which is the Visual Studio template for a WCF service when you add a new WCF Service Application so we have a service called Service1 with its Echo method. Nothing special so far!.... The next step is to look at the web.config file to see how we have configured the WCF service. In the services section of the WCF configuration you can see I have created my service and I have created a local endpoint which I simply used to do a little bit of diagnostics and to check it was working, but more importantly there is the Windows Azure endpoint which is using the ws2007HttpRelayBinding (note that this should also work just the same if your using netTcpRelayBinding). The key points to note on the above picture are the service behavior called MyServiceBehaviour and the service bus endpoints behavior called MyEndpointBehaviour. We will go into these in more detail later.   The Relay Binding The relay binding for the service has been configured to use the TransportWithMessageCredential security mode. This is the important bit where the transport security really relates to the interaction between the service and listening to the Azure Service Bus and the message credential is where we will use our username token like we have specified in the message/clientCrentialType attribute. Note also that we have left the relayClientAuthenticationType set to RelayAccessToken. This means that authentication will be made against ACS for accessing the service bus and messages will not be accepted from any sender who has not been authenticated by ACS.   The Endpoint Behaviour In the below picture you can see the endpoint behavior which is configured to use the shared secret client credential for accessing the service bus and also for diagnostic purposes I have included the service registry element. Hopefully if you are familiar with using Windows Azure Service Bus relay feature the above is very familiar to you and this is a very common setup for this section. There is nothing specific to the username token implementation here. The Service Behaviour Now we come to the bit with most of the username token bits in it. When you configure the service behavior I have included the serviceCredentials element and then setup to use userNameAuthentication and you can see that I have created my own custom username token validator.   This setup means that WCF will hand off to my class for validating the username token details. I have also added the serviceSecurityAudit element to give me a simple auditing of access capability. My UsernamePassword Validator The below picture shows you the details of the username password validator class I have implemented. WCF will hand off to this class when validating the token and give me a nice way to check the token credentials against an on-premise store. You have all of the validation features with a non-service bus WCF implementation available such as validating the username password against active directory or ASP.net membership features or as in my case above something much simpler.   The Client Now let's take a look at the client side of this solution and how we can configure the client to authenticate against ACS but also send a username token over to the service component so it can implement additional security checks on-premise. I have a console application and in the program class I want to use the proxy generated with Add Service Reference to send a message via the Azure Service Bus. You can see in my WCF client configuration below I have setup my details for the azure service bus url and am using the ws2007HttpRelayBinding. Next is my configuration for the relay binding. You can see below I have configured security to use TransportWithMessageCredential so we will flow the username token with the message and also the RelayAccessToken relayClientAuthenticationType which means the component will validate against ACS before being allowed to access the relay endpoint to send a message.     After the binding we need to configure the endpoint behavior like in the below picture. This is the normal configuration to use a shared secret for accessing a Service Bus endpoint.   Finally below we have the code of the client in the console application which will call the service bus. You can see that we have created our proxy and then made a normal call to a WCF service but this time we have also set the ClientCredentials to use the appropriate username and password which will be flown through the service bus and to our service which will validate them.     Conclusion As you can see from the above walkthrough it is not too difficult to configure a service to use both a shared secret and username token at the same time. This gives you the power and protection offered by the access control service in the cloud but also the ability to flow additional tokens to the on-premise component for additional security features to be implemented. Sample The sample used in this post is available at the following location: https://s3.amazonaws.com/CSCBlogSamples/Acme.Azure.ServiceBus.Poc.UN.zip

  • XSLT workflow with variable number of source files

    - by chiborg
I have a bunch of XML files with a fixed, country-based naming schema: report_en.xml, report_de.xml, report_fr.xml, etc. Now I want to write an XSLT style sheet that reads each of these files via the document() XPath function, extracts some values and generates one XML files with a summary. My question is: How can I iterate over the source files without knowing the exact names of the files I will process? At the moment I'm planning to generate an auxiliary XML file that holds all the file names and use the auxiliary XML file in my stylesheet to iterate. The the file list will be generated with a small PHP or bash script. Are there better alternatives? I am aware of XProc, but investing much time into it is not an option for me at the moment. Maybe someone can post an XProc solution. Preferably the solution includes workflow steps where the reports are downloaded as HTML and tidied up :) I will be using Saxon as my XSLT processor, so if there are Saxon-specific extensions I can use, these would also be OK.

  • Sum value of XML attributes using PowerShell 2.0

    - by Yooakim
I have a directory with XML files. I quickly want to go through them and sum upp the value stored in one attribute. I have figured out how to fidn the nodes I am interested in. For example: (Select-Xml -Path .\*.xml -XPath "//*[@Attribue = 'valueImlookingfor']").Count This command gives me the count of elements in all of the XML files in the current directory which has the value "valueImlookingfor" in the "Attribue". I want to sum up all the values of the "Attribute", not count them. What would be the best way to do this in PowerShell? I am new to PowerShell so this may be trivial but un-known to me... All tips are much appreciated :-)

  • PHP DOMElement::getElementsByTagName - Anyway to get just the immediate matching children?

    - by rr
Hi All, is there a way to retrieve only the immediate children found by a call to DOMElement::getElementsByTagName? For example, I have an XML document that has a category element. That category element has sub category elements (which have the same structure), like: <category> <id>1</id> <name>Top Level Category Name</name> <subCategory> <id>2</id> <name>Sub Category Name</name> </subCategory> ... </category> If I have a DOMElement representing the top level category, $topLevelCategoryElement->getElementsByTagName('id'); will return a list with the nodes for all 'id' elements, where I want just the one from the top level. Any way to do this outside of using XPath?

  • How do I update an xml file with msbuild with two namespaces?

    - by c3rin
This msbuild below task can take into account one namespace, but in the case where I'm updating an mxml (flex) that has a mix of namespaces, can I use this task or another msbuild task to do the update? <XmlUpdate Prefix="fx" Namespace="http://ns.adobe.com/mxml/2009" XmlFileName="myFlexApp.mxml" Xpath="//mx:Application/fx:Declarations/fx:String[@id='stringId']" Value="xxxxx"> Here is the flex xml I'm trying to update: <mx:Application xmlns:fx="http://ns.adobe.com/mxml/2009" xmlns:mx="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/mx" xmlns:s="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/spark"> <fx:Declarations> <fx:String id="stringId">UPDATE_ME</fx:String> </fx:Declarations></mx:Application>

  • How can I programatically test which CSS elements match my XHTML?

    - by Shawn Lauzon
I have an application which generates XHTML documents which are styled with (mostly) static CSS. I'm currently using XPath and Hamcrest (Java) to verify that the documents are constructed correctly. However, I also need to verify that the correct CSS properties are matched. For example, I would like a test like this: Given XHTML element Foo, verify that the property "text-transform:uppercase" is applied. Ideally, I would like a Java framework that provides this. I've looked a bit at Selenium, but I don't see this type of functionality. Thanks ...

  • Replacing Text Nodes With DOM Nodes

    - by Greg
Hey, say I have a text node via XPath. How would I replace the text node with a new DOM node? For example, this little patch of code will go through text nodes, and if text matches something, it will replace it with a corresponding image via img element. I wanted something faster then a global page regex or even a element innerHTML regex. Any help would be appreciated. EDIT: Never mind. I figured it out.

  • How to estimate memory need by XPathDocument for a specific xml file

    - by bill seacham
Is there any way to estimate the memory requirement for creating an XpathDocument instance based on the file size of the xml? XpathDocument xdoc = new XpathDocument(xmlfile); Is there any way to programmatically stop the process of creating the XpathDocument if memory drops to a very low level? Since it loads the entire xml into memory, it would be nice to know ahead of time if the xml is too big. What I have found is that when I create a new XpathDocument with a big xml file, an outofmemory exception is never fired, but that the process slows to a crawl, only 5 Mb of memory remains a available and the Task Manager reports it is not responding. This happened with a 266 Mb xml file when there was 584 Mb of ram. I was able to load a 150 Mb file with no problems in 18. After loading the xml, I want to do xpath queries using an XpathNavigator and an XpathNodeIterator. I am using .net 2.0, xp sp3.

  • Extract part of HTML in C/Objective-C

    - by Dan
Hi, I need to extract the detail content of a website while preserve all formatting of the division. The section I wish to extract is: ... <div class="detailContent"><p> <P dir=ltr><STRONG>Hinweis</strong>: Auf ... </p> </div> ... My current solution is to use HTMLParser from libxml2 and xpath to find the nodes and walk through all the nodes to reconstruct this piece of HTML. This is a long an complicated code. I' just wondering if there is an easier solution to extract part of HTML? Thanks.

  • Load XML file into object. Best method?

    - by Cypher
Hello, We are receiving an XML file from our client. I want to load the data from this file into a class, but am unsure about which way to go about it. I have an XSD to defining what is expected in the XML file, so therefore i can easily validate the XML file. Can i use the XSD file to load the data into a POCO, using some sort of serialization? The other way i was thinking was to load the xml into a XMLDocument and use XPath to populate each property in my class. Cheers for any advice

  • Preferred data-format for user-data in java applications?

    - by Frederik Wordenskjold
I'm currently developing a desktop application in java, which stores user data such as bookmarks for ftp-servers. When deciding how to save these informations, I ended up using xml, simply because I like the way xpath works. I was thinking about json too, which seems more lightweight. What is your preferred way to store data in java desktop applications (in general) and why? What about java-persistence, does that have any advantages worth noting? And how much does the size of user data matter? Its not always possible to store data in a database (or preferable), and in my experience xml does not scale well. Let me know what you think!

  • Can I test for the end of the content of a text/plain file with Selenium or javascript?

    - by fool4jesus
I have a page that results in a text/plain file being displayed in the browser that looks like this: ... Admin Site Administration 2010-04-21 22:26:34 [email protected] Test Site Bob Smith 2010-04-21 22:27:09 [email protected] Admin Site Administration 2010-04-21 22:29:26 [email protected] I am trying to write a Selenium test against this that verifies the last line of the file has "[email protected]" at the end. How would you do this? I can't depend on the date/time as this is a login report that is constantly getting updated - all I want is to ensure that the last line ends with that email address. And I can't figure out how to do it using Selenium expressions, DOM, or XPath.

  • PHP DOMElement, replacing text of a node

    - by waitinforatrain
I have a HTML node like so: <b>Bold text</b> A variable $el contains a DOMElement reference to the text of that HTML node ("Bold text"), got from the XPath expression //b/text() I want to change the element to <b><span>Bold Text</span></b> So I tried: $span = $doc->createElement('span', "Bold Text"); $el->parentNode->replaceChild($span,, $el) which fails because parentNode is null. So, as a test, I tried: $el-insertBefore($span, $el); which throws no errors but produces no change in the output. Any thoughts?

  • InfoPath browser form submitting dirty fields changed through javascript

    - by Xavier
I'm trying to submit an InfoPath browser form with fields that have been modified through the Spell Checker included in Sharepoint server. The spell checker checks all the fields in the page and once the user closes the SpellChecker dialog, it changes the textboxes with the new values through javascript. When I click Submit, debug the FormEvents_Submit in the form code behind and try to do a GetNodeValue("XPath to changed field"), it still shows the old values. I realize that this may be a problem of doing postbacks and I'd like to do a full page postback once the SpellChecker is done changing all the textboxes. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

  • Ruby execute code in class getting inherited to

    - by AdamB
I'm trying to be able to have a global exception capture where I can add extra information when an error happens. I have two classes, "crawler" and "amazon". What I want to do is be able to call "crawl", execute a function in amazon, and use the exception handling in the crawl function. Here are the two classes I have: require 'mechanize' class Crawler Mechanize.html_parser = Nokogiri::HTML def initialize @agent = Mechanize.new end def crawl puts "crawling" begin #execute code in Amazon class here? rescue Exception => e puts "Exception: #{e.message}" puts "On url: #{@current_url}" puts e.backtrace end end def get(url) @current_url = url @agent.get(url) end end class Amazon < Crawler #some code with errors def stuff page = get("http://www.amazon.com") puts page.parser.xpath("//asldkfjasdlkj").first['href'] end end a = Amazon.new a.crawl Is there a way I can call "stuff" inside of "crawl" so I can use that exception handling over the entire stuff function? Is there a better way to accomplish this?

  • Stealing the contents of another application's tree view

    - by User1
I have an application with a very large TreeView control in Java. I want to get the contents of the tree control in a list (just strings not a JList) of XPath-like elements of leaves only. Here's an example root |-Item1 |-Item1.1 |-Item1.1.1 (leaf) |-Item1.2 (leaf) |-Item2 |-Item2.1 (leaf) Would output: /Item1/Item1.1/Item1.1.1 /Item1/Item1.2 /Item2/Item2.1 I don't have any source code or anything handy like that. Is there I tool I can use to dig into the Window item itself and pull out this data? I don't mind if there are a few post-processing steps because typing it in by hand is my only other option.

I want to save some fields from these sales. I am fetching that xml with curl and storing on my server. Then do the following: $xml_str = file_get_contents('salespage.xml'); $xml = new SimpleXMLElement($xml_str); $items = $xml->xpath('*/transfer'); print_r($items); foreach($items as $item) { echo $item['buyerTeamname'], ': ', $item['sellerTeamname'], "\n"; } The array is empty and i cant seem to get anything from it. • How do I pass a Yahoo Pipes item into a YQL query?

    - by Joe Shaw
One common thing to want to do in the Yahoo Pipes YQL element is pass in a Pipes value to the YQL query. For example: select * from html.tostring where url='<someurl>' and xpath='//div[@id="foo"]' and you want to pass in a dynamic value for <someurl>. Let's say that it's an RSS feed item's URL called item.link. Attempting to simply replace the quoted someurl with item.link gives you this error: Invalid identifier item.link. me is the only supported identifier in this context How can I pass this value in?

  • How do I show the print with AJAX/jQuery?

    - by Doug
So I'm trying to understand this whole AJAX/jQuery thing. Right now, when I run this PHP script alone, I would have to wait and watch the wheel spin until it's done with the loop and then it will load. while ( $row = mysql_fetch_array($res) ) { postcode_to_storm( $row['Test'] ); $dom = new DOMDocument(); @$dom->loadHTML($result); $xPath = new DOMXPath($dom); $failInvite = 'Rejected'; $findFalse = strpos($result, $failInvite); if ( $findFalse == true ) { $array[$i] = $row['Test']; $i++; echo $array[$i]}; } } Now, how do I use AJAX/jQuery to show echo $array[$i]}; everytime it is invoked instead of waiting for the whole process to complete?

  • created persisted computed columns when the user defined scalar function appears to be non-determini

    - by Ralph Shillington
I have a scalar UDF that I know to be deterministic, however SQL doesn't. Is there a way to declare it as deterministic so that I can then use it in a persisted computed column definition? further clarification: The purpose of this exercise is that I need to harvest out specific values from an XML column on the row. I can't use the value method of the xml column in my computed column definition, but I can use it in a UDF. I know the xpath query in the value method will produce the same output give the same input so while I certainly understand that not all calls to value will be deterministic I want to assert that mine is.

  • utf-8 convertion doesn't work always

    - by Marco Piccinni
I searched into other stack before to type here and I didn't find anythong similar. I have to scrape different utf-8 webpages which contain text like "Oggi è una bellissima giornata" the problem is on the characther "è" I extract this text with jtidy and xpath query expression and I convert it with byte[] content = filteredEncodedString.getBytes("utf-8"); String result = new String(content,"utf-8"); where filteredEncodedString contains the text "Oggi è una bellissima giornata". This procedures works on the most webpages analyzed so far but in some case it doesn't extract a utf-8 string. Page encoding is always the same as the text is similar. Any ideas about the problem? thanks Marco

  • Use CSS selectors to collect HTML elements from a streaming parser (e.g. SAX stream)

    - by Jakub Narebski
How to parse CSS (CSS3) selector and use it (in jQuery-like way) to collect HTML elements not from DOM (from tree structure), but from stream (e.g. SAX), i.e. using sequential access parser? Are there CSS selectors that need access to DOM (Wikipedia SAX page says that XPath selectors "need to be able to access any node at any time in the parsed XML tree")? I am most inetersted in implementing selector combinators, e.g. 'A B' descendant selector. I prefer solutions describing algorithm, or in Perl.

  • Would this rollback/stop all records from inserting?

    - by chobo2
Hi I been going through this tutorial http://www.codeproject.com/KB/linq/BulkOperations_LinqToSQL.aspx and them make a SP like this CREATE PROCEDURE [dbo].[spTEST_InsertXMLTEST_TEST](@UpdatedProdData nText) AS DECLARE @hDoc int exec sp_xml_preparedocument @hDoc OUTPUT,@UpdatedProdData INSERT INTO TBL_TEST_TEST(NAME) SELECT XMLProdTable.NAME FROM OPENXML(@hDoc, 'ArrayOfTBL_TEST_TEST/TBL_TEST_TEST', 2) WITH ( ID Int, NAME varchar(100) ) XMLProdTable EXEC sp_xml_removedocument @hDoc Now my requirements require me to mass insert and mass update one after another. So first I am wondering can I merge those into one SP? I am not sure how it works with this OPENXML but I would think it would just be making sure that the XPath is right. Next what happens while it would be running this combined SP and something goes wrong. Would it roll back all the records or just stop and the records that happened before this event that crashed it would be inserted?
