• Updating autoreconf

  So I need to use the autoreconf to configure a package. However I need at least version 2.61. I'm on CentOS 5.8 and it seems like there's no package for it so I went on to compile it myself. So I get the source of autoconf from http://www.gnu.org/software/autoconf/ and compiled that. And sure when I do autoconf -V it shows up as version 2.68 which is indeed the latest version. However autoreconf (nothing the re) still shows up as the old version 2.59 which causes me some problems. So could someone help a relatively new linux user, updating autoreconf properly? Thanks

• How to resize the disk of a Fedora guest VM in VMWare ESXi

  How do I resize (specifically increase) the disk size of a Fedora guest VM running under VMWare ESXi 4.1? I have a Fedora 16 VM with an ext4 formatted disk, and I've increased its disk size using the vSphere client from 50GB to about 250GB. I rebooted the guest, and it correctly shows this size using fdisk -l /dev/sda. However, df -H still shows the old size. I've found a few KB articles explaining how to resize partitions for some flavors of Linux, but nothing for Fedora with ext4. That article seems to imply I have to create a completely new partition, and that I can't simply expand the existing partition. Using Gparted, it also prevents me from simply resizing the existing partition. Is this impossible to do under Linux?

• Display not using xorg.conf?

  How can I force my PC to use the xorg.conf file ? I have it set up correctly and it is located at etc/x11/xorg.conf but it is ignored by at start up, I know the file is valid as I created it using nvidia-settings. I just do not know why it is been ignored. • my file download speed is 180-200kbps but speedtest is showing 1.7mbps and i am subsribed to 2mbps pack?

  i'm from Malaysia. I am subscribed to 2mbps pack from my country's ISP. But all i get is only 200kbps when download files from the internet, when i test my speed on speedtest.com , it shows me 1.7mbps. I am pretty confused , ISP should give users what they stated , yeah a 2mbps. But i only recieved 200kbps and the speedtest shows 1.7mbps which makes me confused even further. So i started googling and found out that it is related to something called VPN compression? can anyone explain to me how these things works? why am i getting much much lower speed than i have subscribe to. (I am using a D-Link DSL-2750 U modem) Thanks.

• Low Graphics and laggy screen after update to 13.10 from 13.04

  After updating from 13.04 to 13.10 many of 3D unity stuff has stopped working, I am suing Samsung Series 3 (NP350V5X) Laptop which has Switchable Intel and AMD Radeon HD 7670M GFX. xserver-xorg-video-ati does works but NO 3D support and graphics are very low. [I am currently using this] fglrx & fglrx-updates shows blank screen after Login. • Win2008 - restrict VPN user permissions

  Windows 2008 R2 SP1 Foundations file server with no AD, only workgroup sharing some folders, and now a RRAS server. Shared folders are open to everyone in the office (XPs and Sevens) without accounts/passwords, but I was thinking about partially limiting access to the new "VPNuser" account. I'm new to Windows Server and its permissions settings: I thought about denying access to vpnuser through NTFS rights in some folders. It doesn't work, but now I'm guessing that the vpnuser is not considered as a logged user (doesn't appear as such) and is considered a "guest", like the rest of people connecting in the office. • USB mouse pointer only moving horizontally on macbook 6.2 with 12.04

  After installing Ubuntu 12.04 on a macbook pro 6.2, the touchpad and external USB mouse worked perfectly. After rebooting I can't get either touchpad or external USB mouse to work. Sometimes no mouse pointer is visible, but more often I can only move the mouse pointer horizontally five sixths of the way across the display (from the top left). I have uninstalled mouseemu. xinput list shows the USB mouse. xinput query-state for the USB mouse shows the following: ButtonClass button[1]=up ... button[16]=up ValuatorClass Mode=Relative Proximity=In valuator[0]=480 valuator[1]=2400 valuator[2]=0 valuator[3]=3 and re-issuing this command with the pointer at its right hand extreme displays the same except for: valuator[0]=1679 So the valuator[0] seems to be the x-coordinate of the pointer and the range of motion 480-1679 is indeed about five sixths of the display width (1440). valuator[1] is suspiciously large given the display height is 900. Perhaps this is a side-effect of having previously been using a dual monitor (although booting with that monitor connected does not help). There are other entries listed under xinput list: Virtual core XTEST pointer which seems stuck at position (840,1050). bcm5974 which seems stuck at position (837,6700). Removing the bcm5974 module using rmmod disables the toucpad as expected but does not fix the USB mouse problem. After adding the module back, it is stuck at position (840,1050) instead of (837,6700). /etc/X11/xorg.conf was generated by nvidia-settings and contains: Section "InputDevice" # generated from default Identifier "Mouse0" Driver "mouse" Option "Protocol" "auto" Option "Device" "/dev/psaux" Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5" although I don't know how plausible these settings are. • Problem accessing MICROSOFT##SSEE database (Error: 18456, Severity: 14, State: 16.)

  After an unexpected server shutdown due to a power failure, I can no longer connect to the internal windows database MICROSOFT##SSEE which is hosting Central Admin for my SBS 2008 server. The log shows: Error: 18456, Severity: 14, State: 16. Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE'. [CLIENT: <named pipe>] I've tried to connect using the SQL Management studio (connecting to .pipemssql$microsoft##sseesqlquery) but no luck. The SQL Server Configuration Manager doesn't show a entry for 'Protocols for MICROSOFT##SSEE' (but shows it for 2 other database hosted on the same SQL server 2005 Express edition. I have tried to restore the master.ldf and mastlog.log files from a backup, but the issue persists.

• Groovy Grapes in NetBeans IDE

  The start of Groovy Grapes support in NetBeans IDE. Below you see a pure Groovy project, with the Groovy JAR and the Ivy JAR automatically on its classpath. There's also a Groovy script that makes use of a @Grab annotation. In the bottom left, in the Services window, you also see a Grape Repository browser, i.e., showing you the JARs that are currently in ".groovy/grapes". Click the images below to get a better look at them. Next, you see what happens when the project is run. The @Grab annotation automatically starts downloading the JARs that are needed and puts them into the ".groovy/grapes" folder. However, the "no suitable classloader found for grab" error message (which Google shows is a problem for lots of developers) prevents the application from running successfully: The final screenshot shows that I've put the JARs that I need onto the classpath of the project. I did that manually, hoping to learn from the NetBeans Maven project or the NetBeans Gradle project how to do that automatically. Also note that the @Grab annotation has been commented out. Now the error message about the classloader is avoided and the project runs. What needs to happen for Groovy Grapes support to be complete in NetBeans IDE: Figure out how to add the downloaded JARs to the project classpath automatically. Fix the refresh problem in the Grape Repository browser, i.e., right now the refresh doesn't happen automatically yet. Hopefully find a way to get around the grab classloader problem, i.e., it's not ideal that one needs to comment out the annotation. Let the user specify a different Grape repository, i.e., right now ".groovy/grapes" is assumed, but the user should be able to point the repository browser to something different. Maybe there should be support for multiple Grape repositories? Comments/feedback/help is welcome.

• Why are my backlinks not showing on google on this asp.net website with all I've done?

  I recently implemented many SEO techniques for a company on their asp.net website; in 6 months, we jumped from a PR1 to a PR3. But I'm having issues with google backlinking. Here are some of the things I've done: Not only did I set up their own Google+ page 6 months ago, I update it pretty much daily with links, pictures, etc., and I blog about it on my own personal Google+ page and post links, etc. ... They have their own Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and all are updated almost daily. I've listed in as many quality, relevant directories as possible 6 months ago; I've avoided link farms. The site is solid SEO-wise. Key-phrase rich URLs, schema.org & rich snippets. No duplicate content ... www or non-www 301's, trailing slashes, etc. ... all taken care of. Probably a ton of other things, but basically, the site is all set, SEO-wise. Here's what's confounding: When I do a link:www.example.com in Bing/Yahoo, it shows many backlinks. When I do a link:www.example.com in google, it shows up 0 links. Or when I use a site-ranker like Web Site Rank Tool it's showing 0 backlinks from Google. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

• Is it a good programming practice to have a class with several .h files?

  I suppose the class have several different interfaces. Some it shows to some class, some it shows to other classes. Are there any good reason for that? One thing I can think of is with one .h per class, interface would either be public or private. What about if I want some interface to be available to some friends' class and some interface to be truly public? • HTTPS version of page throws 404, regular HTTP appears fine?

  I'm having a strange issue with a website in IIS on Windows Server 2003. It has a valid wild card certificate on it, however when I use HTTPS on the page I get a 404 not found. Without HTTPS it shows up fine. Also, if I go to the domain root of the site using HTTP the homepage shows up, but with HTTPS it REDIRECTS ME to a totally different website installed on the same IIS server. I am quite confused. I tried giving each site a unique IP address but it didn't change anything, I also tried changing the SSL ports, no luck. This IIS is setup to run PHP also. What could I check to resolve this?

• Launcher icon differences in pixels between monitors usign same resolution

  Today I got to test a Samsung SyncMaster 2043nwx. My normal monitor was a 1080p Soniview TV that supports 1920x1080. I use 1680x1050 (16:10) as my common resolution. My amazed is when I see that the launcher icons looks more to a "correct size" of 32px to what they show in my Soniview where they actually take about 50% more using the same resolution. They are both the same resolution but in the Soniview the launcher icons look 50% bigger than the ones in the Samsung. My question is then, why the difference between both monitors since they are using the same resolution but are showing different launcher icon sizes.

• WIN7 and Ubuntu lost after Installing ubuntu 12.04 and win7 dual system ,I have no OS on my laptop now

  Here is the procedure: In the morning I installed ubuntu using a USB directly without config any thing to my win7 system. After install complete, ubuntu installation software tell me to reboot.And everything is just find. While rebooting, there is NO UBUNTU system for me to select,and my laptop go straight to log in using WIN7. NO ubuntu shows on WIN7's configuration(Default System). Log in ubuntu using usb(try ubuntu without installation), I can find ubuntu's filesystem was already there. Formatting the disk on WIN7's disk management, rearranging them to other disk.Still having no trouble with WIN7. In the afternoon try a few times of installation and uninstallation of ubuntu. still shows no sign of selecting ubuntu system. In the evening another trial while installing ubuntu with the third option of: installing ubuntu alongside with INW7, erase win7 and install ubuntu. somethingelse --- my check failed with configuartion for what comes out with the 'something else' option,reboot. And I have no system now with some cmd tips say: Reboot and Select proper Boot Device or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key. Files those on win7's orginal file system and Ubuntu filesystem can still be found when I 'try ubuntu without installation'. 5.But I just got no OS when I reboot my laptop normally.

• Configuring Bind9 on ubuntu

  I am trying to configure name server on Ubuntu just for learning. I have followed this tutorial. After configuring bind9 I have restarted it and works well. I have no registered domain name and public IP, so I have used a random domain name(khalidiitdu.com) that is not registered. When I dig khalidiitdu.com, it shows status: NXDOMAIN. If I use nslookup command, it shows ** server can't find khalidiitdu.com: NXDOMAIN. Now question is: Is registered domain mandatory to configure bind9 within a LAN? If not please suggest me alternative ways. Thanks.....

• Account not getting completed deleted within linux

  I've got a nas box running some flavour of linux 2.6.31.8.nv+v2 with an arm processor. It has got a samba share called 'all' that has full read write access to everyone. However one Windows machine cannot access it without prompting for authentication and I found out from the logs that the windows account matches a local account on the nas box. What I then went to do is delete the local account on the nas. I can see that /home,/etc/password + /etc/shadow the account doesn't exist anymore. However the samba logs, shows that it thinks it is still there as it says account is disabled. I've tried rebooting both nas + windows box. Is there somewhere else that it stores account information? I logged on with a different account on that Windows machine and I can access the share fine. The smb logs shows that it can't find the user and then allows anonymous access.

• Create option to load Ubuntu or Windows 7 at start-up

  We have a new Dell Optiplex 790 desktop with Windows 7 and just installed Ubuntu 12.04 on it using a USB stick that was configured as a boot drive. We created a new partition for Ubuntu during installation using the partition editor that comes up during installation. Everything seems to have gone fine with the installation except that, unexpectedly, there is no option to boot up Ubuntu when the computer is started. We just start the computer and Windows starts up with no option to ever start Ubuntu. The only way we have gotten Ubuntu to start is by putting the USB stick used for installation back into the computer and having the computer boot from it. Then GRUB shows up and the Ubuntu OS that we installed starts up (rather than the live-CD version on the USB stick). Previous times we have installed Ubuntu, GRUB shows up when we start the computer and we can choose among the various OSes installed. Can anyone suggest what to do? We want to have the option to launch either Windows 7 or Ubuntu 12.04 when we start the computer, with the default being Windows 7. Right now there is no option and Windows 7 just starts the way it did before we installed Ubuntu. Note that if we hit F1 soon after starting the computer, we get some sort of Windows bootloader (not sure of exact name) but there is no option for Ubuntu; just Windows 7. Also note that if we hit the shift key soon after starting the computer, as some help pages have suggested, nothing happens (Windows 7 is loaded as usual). Thanks in advance!

  If graphics are rendered for a large viewing angle (e.g. a very large TV or a VR headset), the viewer can't actually focus on the entire image, just a part of it. (Actually, this is the case for regular sized screens as well.) Combined with a way to track the viewer's eyes, you could theoretically exploit this and render the graphics away from the viewer's focus with progressively less details and resolution, gaining performance, without losing perceived quality. Are there any techniques for this available or under development today?

• Monitor Display issue

  When booting I will have to boot maybe 3 or 4 times to get a screen that is not displayed diagonally or is not using the full screen width. Hardware specification: HP s7727c with AMD64 and NVIDIA chipsets and Insignia 22" monitor/TV. The Ubuntu version is 9.10 Karmic. I'd like to stay current with Ubuntu on this machine, but have gone down to 9.10 to get this described functioning. I tried higher versions and could not get past the "black screen" I think this issue is connected to the NVIDIA chipset/driver problem. I am a GUI user and I don't follow the other solutions posted which make use of the command line. I suppose if the command line solution could be given without making any assumptions of the receiving person's knowledge base, then even I and others like me, could implement it. When I unplug the HDMI everything goes perfect again, text is crisp, plugin the HDMI text goes blurry.
