• deploying a styles library for plugin developers

  I have an application that my customers can write plugins (that have WPF UIs) for. Now I would like to expose a set of styles as a library that they can use and that will help them with the development of the UIs sO they don't have to reivent the weel. How would I idealy expose those styles without actually having to deploy a lot of xaml files? How is something like this usually done in WPF so it does not break tooling support (blend, vs). How do I expose it and how does the cusomer reference those styles?

• Silverlight Binding to TranslateX

  I have a simple winphone7 application, but I think this would apply to any silverlight. Basically I have an ellipse and I would like to move it with the translate X and Y properties. Here is my attempt: <Ellipse Fill="#FFF4F4F5" Margin="0,0,-3,-3" Stroke="Black" RenderTransformOrigin="0.5,0.5" > <Ellipse.RenderTransform> <CompositeTransform TranslateY="{Binding Y}" TranslateX="{Binding X}"/> </Ellipse.RenderTransform> </Ellipse> I am pretty sure the Binding is set correctly; The problem is it gives me this error when I run the application: 2260 An error has occurred. [Line: 4 Position: 33] which is a XAML error. The error goes away when I comment out the composittransform line. Can anyone point me in a right direction? • Unable to display data in a WPF datagrid that has a DataView instance as the items source

  I am using a DataGrid object from the WPF toolkit. I am binding the DataGrid object to the default view of a DataTable instance as declared in the following code: WeatherGrid.ItemsSource = weatherDataTable.DefaultView; weatherDataTable has three columns. The first column is defined to contain a string data type. The other two columns are defined to contain double data types. When the application exits the function that calls the binding as expressed in the declaration, The DataGrid object displays data for the first column, but not the other columns. When I type the following in the immediate window in the debugger: ((DataRowView)WeatherGrid.Items[0]).Row[1] I get a number, but this doesn't correspond with what is being displayed. Why is only the first column visible, and how can I get all of the data to be visible? • Apply jump menu functionality on select box styled with jquery

  Hi all, I am using this script to apply style on a select box. It works fine as a standalone version. But I also need to apply a jump menu functionality on this select box. I tried adding a function but it seems that there is some conflict between the two scripts. The jquery styling and the jump menu function can't work together at the same time. Can you help me fix it?   Hey. Another WPF question. In my XAML code I have a border: <Border x:Name="myBorder" Background="AliceBlue" Width="200" Height="200" BorderThickness="10" BorderBrush="Black"> </Border> and somewhere in code I increase the BorderThickness double thickness = myBorder.BorderThickness.Bottom + 2; myBorder.BorderThickness = new Thickness(thickness); and the result is that the border's weight increases but not outside the 200x200 width-height, but inner, decreasing the dimension. Is there a way to do the opposite?

• Subclassing an NSTextField

  Given all the complex things I seem to cover every day, this appears to be a "what the heck am I doing wrong that seems to simple?" scenario! I would like to subclass an NSTextField to change the background color and text color. For simplicity sake (and to help anyone who hasn't ever subclassed anything before), here is the example of my (simplified) subclass MyNSTextFieldSubclass... Step 1: Create the subclass file: First the header file @interface MyTextFieldSubclass : NSTextField { } @end And the method file @implementation MyTextFieldSubclass -(NSColor *)backgroundColor { return [NSColor redColor]; } -(NSColor *)textColor { return [NSColor yellowColor]; } @end Step 2: Drag an NSTextField to a window in Interface Builder, select the Identity tab in the inspector and select the class MyTextFieldSubclass Step 3: Save the IB file, build and run the application Problem When I run the build, the text field does not reflect the color subclassing. However, I know the subclass is being called because if I add the following method, it gets called on text changes. -(void)textDidChange:(NSNotification *)notification { NSLog(@"My text changed"); } So why does the color change not occur on the text fields? I know that I can set the color in IB, but for anyone who has dealt with a lot of UI elements that all need the same styling, subclassing makes life way, way easier. Ironically, I have never had to subclass an NSTextField before and this one has me stumped. As usual, any and all help very much appreciated. I'm sure it will turn out to be a "Doh!" moment - just cant see the wood for the trees right now (plus I'm exhausted from watching too much World Cup Football early in the morning which never helps).

• How can I use data binding in WPF to create a new user control for each element in a list?

  I have a list of objects. For each item in the list, I want to create a new user control bound to that item. From what I've read, doing this programmatically is bad practice with WPF (as well as less than straightforward), so I should use data binding as a solution instead. The problem is, I can't figure out how to do this. I don't know the contents of the list (just the type) at compile-time, so I can't create and bind with XAML for each element. Google and MSDN don't seem to have any answers, so maybe I'm thinking about this the wrong way? What do I need to do? Thanks

• GWT Html Layout Conventions

  I've just started working with GWT and I'm already recognizing the extraordinary power that it possesses. I'm coming from a frontend world so the Java is a big learning curve, but I think that will actually help me build a properly laid out app (html-wise) instead of just relying on the default GWT panels that often end up using tables for layout, or superfluous, absolutely positioned divs. The biggest thing slowing me down right now however is deciding how to properly lay out the design of my site. I've got a pretty standard 2-col header/foot site (fixed width) that I want to design, but I'm not a fan of all the extra divs/styling etc that come with the DockLayoutPanel for instance. I'm thinking that I should just write my own Layout widget extending Composite that has HTMLPanels for the general site layout (I think... still haven't fully figured that out yet, ie. how do I add ID's to these panel divs "#header", "#nav" etc...) then I can add other widgets into this layout But the other thing I'm seeing is that I could write a Layout class extending UiBuilder and have straight up divs in the ui.xml file. I'm just wondering, what is the preferred method for site layout with GWT? This isn't going to be re-used in the sense of other widgets, it will be used once and my controls etc will be placed inside. Any tips or tricks are greatly appreciated! And if I've completely missed the boat on how to do this, let me know

• QT: I've inherited from QTreeView. I've inherited from QStandardItem. How do i Style the items?

  My Google skills must be failing me today. I've inherited from QTreeView to create a TreeView that stores a QStandardItemModel instead of a QAbstractItemModel. I have also inherited from QStandardItem to create a class to store my data in an item as is necessary. I've successfully inserted my derived QStandardItem into my derived QTreeView's QStandardItemModel. Now the trouble is, I can't figure out how to style it. I know that QTreeView has a setStyleSheet(QString) member, but I can't seem to get it working. It may be as simple as I'm not styling the correct attribute. Any pointers would be appreciated. Thanks. • WPF DataGrid button style

  If I have a DataGrid in a XAML form, and add the following style: <Style TargetType="Button"> <Setter Property="Margin" Value="2"/> </Style> The data grid locks up the application. I found if I put the style into a resource block that isn't seen by any data grid, then it seems to be happy. However, if I want to have the style above applied to all buttons on my window, I have to put it in various resource blocks that cannot be seen by the data grid. Is there any way to avoid this?

  Maybe I'm misunderstanding how to use an IValueConverter or data binding (which is likely), but I am currently trying to set the IsReadOnly property of a DataGridTextColumn depending on the value of a string.   When creating an WPF application with the MVVM pattern, it seems I have to gather the necessary tools myself to even begin the most rudimentary event handling, e.g. AttachedBehaviors I get from here DelegateCommands I get from here Now I'm looking for some way to handle the ItemSelected event in a ComboBox and am getting suggestions of tricks and workarounds to do this (using a XAML trigger or have other elements bound to the selected item, etc.). Ok, I can go down this road, but it seems to be reinventing the wheel. It would be nice to just have an ItemSelected command that I can handle in my ViewModel. Am I missing some set of standard tools or is everyone doing MVVM with WPF basically building and putting together their own collection of tools just so they can do the simplest plumbing tasks with events and commands, things that take only a couple lines in code-behind with a Click="eventHandler"?

• jQuery ui Accordion degrades in IE6 or IE7, but is working in IE8

  There are two accordions on my page, with custom accordion CSS in another file, differentiated by class and ID names so as not to conflict with each other. The accordions don't show up at all, they just degrade to showing all the content at once, as if all the accordion styling is gone. The accordions are both called around the middle of the page, and there's no difference if they are loaded with $(document).ready. What should I check for in the CSS files? There are no inline-block uses. I am using jQuery 1.3.2.min and jQuery ui 1.7.2, so I'm assuming the autoHeight set to false won't make a difference... This is being used inside a Symfony-based site. Works fine in FF, IE8, Chrome.   I'm trying to find the TextBlock that is inside the control template of a comboBox. using VisualTreeHelpar.GetChildrenCount is working only if the comboBox is declared in XAML.In that case GetChildrenCount returns 1 and a recursive search is possible. However, if I declare the combo as a member of the Window class using code, allocated and setting it to its place, the function GetChildrenCount return 0. When I run snoop in this scenario It shows the combo children hierarchy. I want to be able to search the comboBox just as snoop does. • How can I keep a WPF Image from blocking if the ImageSource references an unreachable Url?

  I'm writing a WPF application and trying to bind an image to my view model with the following XAML: <Image Source="{Binding Author.IconUrl, IsAsync=True}" /> The problem is that the image URLs are defined by users and can often refer to images hosted on intranet web servers. When the WPF application is run remotely, it locks up while trying to resolve the images that are now unreachable. I thought the "IsAsync" binding property would cause the load to happen in the background, but it appears that the DNS resolution may still happen in the main thread? What can I do to keep my app from locking, even if the images are unreachable? Thanks, Corey

• Wpf SelectedItem wont work for a Combobox in a ListView

  Hi there, I´ve got a problem with a Combobox in a ListView. I´ve got a class called "Substrate". This class contains an object of a class called "SubstrateType". I want to show the objects of the class "Substrate" in a Listview. Each property of the "Substrate" is presented in the columns of the Listview. For the different "SubstrateType" I want to use a combobox. In the XAML I tried it like this: <ComboBox Name="CBType" ItemsSource="{Binding ElementName=SettingsSubstrate, Path=TypeList}" SelectedItem="{Binding Path=Substrate.SubstrateType}" DisplayMemberPath="Description"/> In the code-behind I got two ObservableCollections. One for all Substrates and one for all possible SubstrateTypes. The combobox displays all SubstrateTypes if you click on it.
