  • Changing the icon of a .JAR file

    - by Demonick
How can I change the icon of a .JAR file I want to distribute? I have changed the icon that shows when the program is run, but I want to change the icon in the environment (e.g. Windows XP), that is for the file itself. I googled, but the best I could find is converting the .JAR to a .EXE, which is not the best choice.

  • Creating android app Database with big amount of data

    - by Thomas
Hi all, The database of my application need to be filled with a lot of data, so during onCreate(), it's not only some create table sql instructions, there is a lot of inserts. The solution I chose is to store all this instructions in a sql file located in res/raw and which is loaded with Resources.openRawResource(id). It works well but I face to encoding issue, I have some accentuated caharacters in the sql file which appears bad in my application. This my code to do this : public String getFileContent(Resources resources, int rawId) throws IOException { InputStream is = resources.openRawResource(rawId); int size = is.available(); // Read the entire asset into a local byte buffer. byte[] buffer = new byte[size]; is.read(buffer); is.close(); // Convert the buffer into a string. return new String(buffer); } public void onCreate(SQLiteDatabase db) { try { // get file content String sqlCode = getFileContent(mCtx.getResources(), R.raw.db_create); // execute code for (String sqlStatements : sqlCode.split(";")) { db.execSQL(sqlStatements); } Log.v("Creating database done."); } catch (IOException e) { // Should never happen! Log.e("Error reading sql file " + e.getMessage(), e); throw new RuntimeException(e); } catch (SQLException e) { Log.e("Error executing sql code " + e.getMessage(), e); throw new RuntimeException(e); } The solution I found to avoid this is to load the sql instructions from a huge static final string instead of a file, and all accentutated characters appears well. But Isn't there a more elegant way to load sql instructions than a big static final String attribute with all sql instructions ? Thanks in advance Thomas

  • Can I mix declarative and programmatic layout in GWT 2.0?

    - by stuff22
I'm trying to redo an existing panel that I made before GWT 2.0 was released. The panel has a few text fields and a scrollable panel below in a VerticalPanel. What I'd like to do is to make the scrollable panel with UIBinder and then add that to a VerticalPanel Below is an example I created to illustrate this: public class ScrollTablePanel extends ResizeComposite{ interface Binder extends UiBinder<Widget, ScrollTablePanel > { } private static Binder uiBinder = GWT.create(Binder.class); @UiField FlexTable table1; @UiField FlexTable table2; public Test2() { initWidget(uiBinder.createAndBindUi(this)); table1.setText(0, 0, "testing 1"); table1.setText(0, 1, "testing 2"); table1.setText(0, 2, "testing 3"); table2.setText(0, 0, "testing 1"); table2.setText(0, 1, "testing 2"); table2.setText(0, 2, "testing 3"); table2.setText(1, 0, "testing 4"); table2.setText(1, 1, "testing 5"); table2.setText(1, 2, "testing 6"); } } then the xml: <ui:UiBinder xmlns:ui='urn:ui:com.google.gwt.uibinder' xmlns:g='urn:import:com.google.gwt.user.client.ui' xmlns:mail='urn:import:com.test.scrollpaneltest'> <g:DockLayoutPanel unit='EM'> <g:north size="2"> <g:FlexTable ui:field="table1"></g:FlexTable> </g:north> <g:center> <g:ScrollPanel> <g:FlexTable ui:field="table2"></g:FlexTable> </g:ScrollPanel> </g:center> </g:DockLayoutPanel> </ui:UiBinder> Then do something like this in the EntryPoint: public void onModuleLoad() { VerticalPanel vp = new VerticalPanel(); vp.add(new ScrollTablePanel()); vp.add(new Label("dummy label text")); vp.setWidth("100%"); RootLayoutPanel.get().add(vp); } But when I add the ScrollTablePanel to the VerticalPanel, only the first FlexTable (test1) is visible on the page, not the whole ScrollTablePanel. Is there a way to make this work where it is possible to mix declarative and programmatic layout in GWT 2.0?

  • db2 jdbc driver does not release table locks

    - by as
situation: We have a web service running on tomcat accessing DB2 database on AS400, we are using JTOPEN drivers for JNDI connections handled by tomcat. For handling transactions and access to database we are using Spring. For each select system takes JDBC connection from JNDI (i.e. from connection pool), does selection, and in the end it closes ResultSet, Statement and releases Connection in that order. That passes fine, shared lock on table dissappears. When we want to do update the same way as we did with select (exception on ResultSet object, we don't have one in such situation), after releasing Connection to JNDI lock on table stays. If we put maxIdle=0 for number of connections in JNDI configuration, this problem disappears, but this degrades performances, we have cca 100 users online on that service, we need few connections to be alive in pool. What do you suggest?

  • Using a custom annotation on a Spring MVC controller method from an interceptor.

    - by Speck
I have a custom annotation with which I've annotated a method in my Controller alongside a @ReqestMapping. The goal is to use the values set in the custom annotation from a HandlerInterceptor to perform a task. I have the interceptor (HandlerInterceptorAdaptor) mapped and it executes. If I set a breakpoint in my concrete Interceptor I can inspect the HttpServletRequest, HttpServletResponse, and handler Objects. However, I cannot see how to 1, obtain the method which the request is trying to access 2, obtain the Annotations on that method and 3, of course, obtain the values set by the annotation. Can anyone point me to good documentation for this? Please and Thank You.

  • J2SE Client Server App: Client calls RMI method. Server handles RMI method and returns, but Client

    - by Mike
J2SE Client Server App: Client calls RMI message. Server handles RMI method and returns, but Client never receives it. Any ideas how this could happen? Our attempted solution is to set client read timeouts and come up with a framework for resending requests or otherwise handling those failures gracefully. But really, I'd like to know any root causes for how this might happen rather than addressing the symptoms.

  • Returnimng collection of interfaces

    - by apoorv020
I have created the following interface public interface ISolutionSpace { public boolean isFeasible(); public boolean isSolution(); public Set<ISolutionSpace> generateChildren(); } However, in the implementation of ISolutionSpace in a class called EightQueenSolutionSpace, I am going to return a set of EightQueenSolutionSpace instances, like the following stub: @Override public Set<ISolutionSpace> generateChildren() { return new HashSet<EightQueenSolutionSpace>(); } However this stub wont compile. What changes do I need to make? EDIT: I tried 'HashSet' as well and had tried using the extends keyword. However since 'ISolutionSpace' is an interface and EightQueenSolutionSpace is an implementation(and not a subclass) of 'ISolutionSpace', it is still not working.

  • Mutable objects and hashCode

    - by robert
Have the following class: public class Member { private int x; private long y; private double d; public Member(int x, long y, double d) { this.x = x; this.y = y; this.d = d; } @Override public int hashCode() { final int prime = 31; int result = 1; result = prime * result + x; result = (int) (prime * result + y); result = (int) (prime * result + Double.doubleToLongBits(d)); return result; } @Override public boolean equals(Object obj) { if (this == obj) { return true; } if (obj instanceof Member) { Member other = (Member) obj; return other.x == x && other.y == y && Double.compare(d, other.d) == 0; } return false; } public static void main(String[] args) { Set<Member> test = new HashSet<Member>(); Member b = new Member(1, 2, 3); test.add(b); System.out.println(b.hashCode()); b.x = 0; System.out.println(b.hashCode()); Member first = test.iterator().next(); System.out.println(test.contains(first)); System.out.println(b.equals(first)); System.out.println(test.add(first)); } } It produces the following results: 30814 29853 false true true Because the hashCode depends of the state of the object it can no longer by retrieved properly, so the check for containment fails. The HashSet in no longer working properly. A solution would be to make Member immutable, but is that the only solution? Should all classes added to HashSets be immutable? Is there any other way to handle the situation? Regards.

  • Does GAE/OpenID/OAuth support xmlhttp proxy?

    - by h2g2java
Currently, my code would construct the GWT form, which user would submit directly to openId (or any authenticaiton service). Such a method works fine. However, what if I had the gwt page server access the OpenID provider, is there a way/strategy for the server to mediate authentication between its client and the auth provider? I wish to know the answers with respect to GAE as the proxy and, regardless if GAE or Tomcat is the intended proxy, answers wrt Google Accounts OpenID OAuth If so, it would be wonderful if someone could describe the installation strategy.

  • Is it possible to start an activity in a different apk using startActivity on Android using the acti

    - by icecream
I have tried to write an Android application with an activity that should be launched from a different application. It is not a content provider, just an app with a gui that should not be listed among the installed applications. I have tried the code examples here and it seems to be quite easy to launch existing providers and so on, but I fail to figure out how to just write a "hidden" app and launch it from a different one. The basic use case is: App A is a normal apk launchable from the application list. App B is a different apk with known package and activity names, but is is not visible or launchable from the application list. App A launches app B using the package and class names (or perhaps a URI constructed from these?). I fail in the third step. Is it possible to do this?

  • Can JAXB store the class name in the XML so that the the deserialize code doesn't need knowledge of the class?

    - by Andrew
It seems the standard approach for deserializing JAXB XML is to specify the package name when creating the context. Then, JAXB looks up the class based on the root element: JAXBContext jc = JAXBContext.newInstance("com.foo"); Unmarshaller u = jc.createUnmarshaller(); Object o = u.unmarshal(new StringReader("...")); I'm looking for a more flexible approach where I don't have to specify the package name and could still deserialize any object. This would be as simple as JAXB storing the package in the XML, but I can't seem to find out how to do this. I can write the code to do it myself but that would be unpleasant. It would like JAXB to do it, if possible. BTW, I am not using schemas, just Annotations and marshal/unmarshal. Any ideas?

  • Google App Engine 1.3.1 JAR's in publicly available Maven repository?

    - by Taylor L
Is anyone aware of a publicly available Maven repository that contains the Google App Engine 1.3.1 JAR's? I've been using the maven-gae-plugin repository, but it's not updated yet. It looks like the JAR's on the central Maven repository are even older. EDIT: It looks like Cletus's answer below has most of the JAR's, but not all of them. For example, the datanucleus-appengine-1.0.5.final.jar isn't available.

  • How to embed revision information using mercurial and maven (and svn)

    - by Zwei Steinen
Our project had a nice hack (although I'm guessing there are better ways to do it) to embed revision information into the artifacts (jar etc.) when we used svn. Now we have migrated to mercurial, and we want to have a similar thing, but before I start working on a similar hack with mercurial, I wanted to know if there are better ways to do this. Thanks for your answers! <plugin> <groupId>org.codehaus.mojo</groupId> <artifactId>exec-maven-plugin</artifactId> <executions> <execution> <phase>process-classes</phase> <id>svninfo</id> <goals> <goal>exec</goal> </goals> <configuration> <executable>svn</executable> <arguments> <argument>info</argument> <argument>../</argument> <argument>></argument> <argument>target/some-project/META-INF/svninfo.txt</argument> </arguments> </configuration> </execution> </executions> </plugin>

  • Is there a design pattern to cut down on code duplication when subclassing Activities in Android?

    - by Daniel Lew
I've got a common task that I do with some Activities - downloading data then displaying it. I've got the downloading part down pat; it is, of course, a little tricky due to the possibility of the user changing the orientation or cancelling the Activity before the download is complete, but the code is there. There is enough code handling these cases such that I don't want to have to copy/paste it to each Activity I have, so I thought to create an abstract subclass Activity itself such that it handles a single background download which then launches a method which fills the page with data. This all works. The issue is that, due to single inheritance, I am forced to recreate the exact same class for any other type of Activity - for example, I use Activity, ListActivity and MapActivity. To use the same technique for all three requires three duplicate classes, except each extends a different Activity. Is there a design pattern that can cut down on the code duplication? As it stands, I have saved much duplication already, but it pains me to see the exact same code in three classes just so that they each subclass a different type of Activity.
