If you have SQL Server 2008 Trial edition installed, how can you find out how many days are left?
It doesn't seem to be in the Help-About dialog, or anywhere obvious.
When I am trying to remove program from "Add or Remove Programs" I get an dialog with ability to chose instalation file. But I didn't have that file. So I can't remove program...

The Folder Options dialog in Windows XP Explorer had a File Types tab that allowed one to change a file type's icon. Windows 7 doesn't have this. Is there a way to change file icons without changing its default application?
Running CentOS 5.4

I right-click on a top-level folder in Windows Explorer. I choose Properties Security tab Advanced Change Permissions. I check "Replace all child object permissions with inheritable permissions from this object" Apply. I get a Windows Security dialog that says, "Setting security information on" the list of objects that flashes by. But now the "Replace all child object permissions" box is unchecked. What is happening here?
I use a localized version of Firefox whose options/preferences menu and about:config entries differ from the default English base distribution. When I'm discussing Firefox on international forums, it's hard to tell people what options I alter and what values I use, since the localized names are different.
Is there an exhaustive list of the about:config entries that can be changed from the graphical preferences/options dialog; something I can use as a reference for translating my localized names?
For some reason, Windows Desktop Search (included with Windows 7.0) now no longer shows any file types on the "Advanced Options" dialog box. Any ideas on how to fix this? WDS claims to be indexing...but I'm not sure what it's actually indexing right now.
I should also add that when I try to add a file type, nothing shows up or is ever actually added. If I login as a different user on the same system, everything appears normally.
I have a couple of backed up .pst and .ost files that were used with a server that is not accessible anymore. On my local machine, I was able to Add... the .pst file to my fresh Outlook 2007 and access the emails. However, adding an .ost file does not seem to be an options in the Accounts Settings dialog.
Is it possible to import the .ost file, or convert it to a .pst w/o the aid of the exchange server?
You can disable but you can't delete them from the "Manage addons" dialog.
In IE 7 there was a delete button but I've never seen it enabled, in IE 8 I don't see the button at all.
My guess would be that IE addons are registered as COM components and you cannot track who uses that component besides IE itself so it would be unsafe to delete.
I'm running OS X 10.6.8 on a MacBook Pro 13" 2011 version, trying to use Dropbox 1.4.7 Camera Upload. When I connect my Sony HDR-XR260 video camera or my Blackberry Torch 9800 via USB or even an SD card via the built-in reader, Dropbox never recognizes any of it and the pop-up dialog box never pops up to ask me if I want to import my videos or not. I do have the option enabled in DB preferences.
Any solutions?
I'm trying to use an old parallel-port based printer with a USB-to-parallel port adapter on Windows 7. When I plug it into the USB port on the computer it's listed as an unrecognized device. I know that these cables typically use the "USB Printing Support" driver with makes USB ports show up as printer ports in the printer dialog. Is there a way to manually add USB Printing Support to Windows 7, since it isn't being added automatically?
There are several ways how to toggle hidden files - via a shell command, or AppleScript, or Automator action, or even a Dashboard widget. All of them close and reopen Finder windows, which is quite annoying.
On the other hand, for the Open File dialog one can easily toggle hidden files by pressing Command+Shift+Period.
Is it possible to avoid relaunching Finder?
We have a win 7 home prem pc, amd cpu, 8G ram, plenty of free disk space. Whenever user is working in publisher 20003, and tries to save a publisher 2003 document to the desktop, the save as dialog hangs and takes 2-3 minutes to display the desktop save location. I've tested excel 2003, it has no problems immediately displaying the desktop save as location and saving the file.
Defining some Tables in SQL-Server which will be accessed via ODBC from MS-Access.
I'm not sure about it, put i read somewhere that a primary key must bee named with 'aaaaaPK_ColumnName'.
The 5 'a' should manage that the PK is listed first in the dialog for all key's in MS-Access.
What do you think about that?
I use dark themes and when I select a word, Notepad++ highlights all the occurences of that word in the current document. But the highlight color for matches other than the current word is somehow blended with the background and the highlighted text is not as clearly visible as it could be. The same thing happens when using "Find all" option in the Find dialog to mark the occurences. Is there a way to change this behavior such that the matched text has the same (full) opacity as the selected text?
When I run the installer for both taglocity 2 and 3, during the installation I get the following error:
Error 1001: Exception occurred while initializing the installation: System.Configuration.ConfigurationErrorException: Configuration system failed to initalize.
When I try to continue with the installation by clicking OK, a dialog appears with the title ADX Loader with the message:
The system cannot find the file specified.
Clicking OK causes the installation to roll back. I’m using Outlook 2007 on Windows XP.

I you copy/paste some files into a directory that already contains files with the same name you'll get a confirmation dialog "There is already a file with the same name in this location..."
To replace all files you have to check "Do this for the next N conflicts" and then click on "Copy and Replace".
Is there a keyboard shortcut for this (like there was in XP where you could simply press 'a')?
The icons of my folders in Windows 8 have changed automatically !
Now it is similar to that of the Unknown File Type icon.
My C: drive icon and some icons in the Explorer-Home menu had also changed, but they became normal after a restart. But the folder icons (Medium Size) don't change. This is also seen in the "Save Dialog"-box. Please help, Thanks in advance...

This should be a common problem for anyone involved in technical writing.
When you insert an image (or table etc.) caption in Word, you get this dialog. You enter your caption, in this case "A happy bicycle" (in yellow).
This might be fine for a happy bicycle, but I want to have captions that have one style for the "enumeration" and one style for the description, as such:
I have tried searching for this but I haven't found anything yet...
i'm having a very strange problem:
i'm running win7 64bit on my laptop - i hooked an external HD via usb3.
when saving something in certain applications (eg. notepad), the file dialog pops up then the whole system is freezing .. like applications won't react anymore, also taskmanager, so i can't terminate anything. i think it's the external HD which is powering down after a while.
anyone who knows this problem and can tell me how to fix it?
thanks
I left some files opened in gVim, and hibernated my machine.
Unfortunately, there was some error, and I lost my gVim session.
Is it possible to do like modern browsers nowadays (like Firefox), that after "crashing" (not exiting in normal ways), showing a "Restore last session" dialog in my gVim?
When I open a bash terminal in OSX and then type Alt + F to got back one word it instead opens the find dialog? many of the other key-bindings have similar problems. How can I change this?
Windows 7: I have the Browse folders option set to "Open each folder in the same window" in the Folder Options dialog. Double-clicking folders opens a new window. Please, make it stop.
