  • Can an Oracle user get a list of its own running sessions without access to v$session?

    I have an application that runs a process and I only want one process to run at a time. Some options are: Use an object lock to prevent subsequent processes running. This would be fine, but I want the calling session to return immediately and not wait for the running session to complete. Use a custom Y/N to set whether a process is running or not. I set a "Y" flag at the start of the process and set it to "N" when it finishes or fails. Also fine but feels like I'm re-inventing the wheel and doesn't feel like the way to go. It also falls short if the running session is killed as the flag stays at "Y". Use dbms_application_info.set_module This approach seems the most robust, but if I'm to know there's an existing running process I think I need to be able to query v$session and I don't want this application to have such wide access. Any ideas?

  • How to set up Node server for production on own machine?

    This must be a pretty basic thing to do, but I cannot find any good guide on how to do it on the internet. I only find how to set up a development environment for Node. I want to be able to forward my R-Pi's port 80 to my Node server, which I want to obviously listen on port 80. How can I close the native port 80 so that I can let me Node server listen on that port. Ultimately, I want to be able to access my pi from any remote location. I know how to set up a static IP and forward the port on my router, but now how do I allow Node into port 80?

  • How to create a Link that supplies its own Markup?

    I'm trying to create a link that will hide or show a part of my page. The link should be reusable and display one of two images, depending on state. Adding the two subcomponents on every page where I use the link is kind of clunky so I wanted to create a component that behaves like a link while automatically adding its content. By googling I found another example where the poster was only able to get that to work when using a Panel, and I was able to do that as well. But I'd really like to keep the link and not package it inside a Panel, as I would not be able to style the link in the markup. I'm also open to alternatives to encapsulate the link and its body.

    How can I use the wx.ProgressDialog to time my method called imgSearch? The imgSearch method finds image files on the user's pc. How can I make the wx.ProgressDialog run while imgSearch is still running and display how long the imgSearch is taking?   • Why are marketing employees, product managers, etc. deserving of their own office, yet programmers are jammed in a room as many as possible?

    I don't understand why many (many) companies treat software developers like they are assembly line workers making widgets. Joel Spolsky has a great example of the problems this creates: With programmers, it's especially hard. Productivity depends on being able to juggle a lot of little details in short term memory all at once. Any kind of interruption can cause these details to come crashing down. When you resume work, you can't remember any of the details (like local variable names you were using, or where you were up to in implementing that search algorithm) and you have to keep looking these things up, which slows you down a lot until you get back up to speed. Here's the simple algebra. Let's say (as the evidence seems to suggest) that if we interrupt a programmer, even for a minute, we're really blowing away 15 minutes of productivity. For this example, lets put two programmers, Jeff and Mutt, in open cubicles next to each other in a standard Dilbert veal-fattening farm. Mutt can't remember the name of the Unicode version of the strcpy function. He could look it up, which takes 30 seconds, or he could ask Jeff, which takes 15 seconds. Since he's sitting right next to Jeff, he asks Jeff. Jeff gets distracted and loses 15 minutes of productivity (to save Mutt 15 seconds). Now let's move them into separate offices with walls and doors. Now when Mutt can't remember the name of that function, he could look it up, which still takes 30 seconds, or he could ask Jeff, which now takes 45 seconds and involves standing up (not an easy task given the average physical fitness of programmers!). So he looks it up. So now Mutt loses 30 seconds of productivity, but we save 15 minutes for Jeff. Ahhh! Quote Link More Spolsky on Offices Why don't managers and owner's see this?

  • Want to develop my own primitive physics engine, don't know how to start with it's high-level architecture. Suggestions?

    Few years ago I tried to make a simple 3D game - billiards. Completed like 50%, stuck with physics. Basically, I only need to calculate balls rolling over flat surface, but it would be nice to make something more flexible. I know all the formulas and laws (most of them, anyway). the problem is I have no idea of how to make good physics engine architecture-wise. I tried google and other forums but didn't find what I was looking for. The only suggestion was to look at open-source engine, but I'm not that good a programmer to make heads or tails out of it...

  • using own mail server with external domain and dns. Now have internal dns. dkim test not working

    I am not very knowledgeable in this area, but have been able to make great head way. Now i am stuck I setup my own mail server, e.g mailbox.example.com. I had the domain dns point to my mail server in my office. i was able to set up everything working fine. such as dkim and spf records. Recently i decided to setup an internal dns server in the office so as to resolve some addresses for some development servers internally. Ok the problem now is my mail server is sitting on the internal dns server (the mail server is on the same box as the dns server) its still able to send and receive emails but not sure if dkim is working properly. when i try to do a dkim test "amavisd test keys" i get "invalid (public key: not available)" and i know that that means i have a dns issue. so what should i do? I am currently looking at my internal dns zonefile and i dont know what to do (i am using bind dns server on an ubuntu-server box). do i configure a dkim txt record on the local dns ? or is there a way to forward dkim "request" to the external dns ? or do i have this whole thing done wrong ? To be clear Basically my internal domain name is the same as my external domain name (i.e example.com) i have a mail server within my internal domain mailbox.example.com, that uses my external domain dns (external dns has been setup to point to my emailserver (which of course is now sitting behind my internal dns)) dkim (i dont think its working because it fails the dkim test") Need help in determing the proper setup What is the proper way to set this up ? thank you Update: Here is my local dns zone file ; ; BIND data file for local loopback interface ; $TTL 604800 @ IN SOA webserver.example.com. root.example.com.     I have defined my own file types using vim. For example I have: .classNotes .reportJotNotes .homework These file types are defined in .vim files: ~/.vim/syntax/homework.vim ~/.vim/syntax/reportJotNotes.vim ~/.vim/syntax/homework.vim Many of these things have several of the same code in them. Ie they all have this for titles: syn region JakeTitle start=+=== + end=+===+ oneline highlight JakeTitle ctermbg=black ctermfg=Yellow syn region JakeMasterTitle start=+==== + end=+====+ oneline highlight JakeMasterTitle cterm=bold term=bold ctermbg=black ctermfg=LightBlue Instead of having this in all three .vim files I would rather have it in one file and then in each file could source it. How can I do this?
