  • VirtualBox 4.1.20 (Windows 7 / Ubuntu 12.04 (32 bit)) copy/paste is broken

    I have a Windows 7 Pro host, and Ubuntu 12.04 LTS guest. I cannot get the shared clipboard working. I have installed Guest Additions 4.1.20 on VirtualBox 4.1.20, have restarted, followed instructions found at http://www.virtualbox.org/manual/ch04.html#idp18411760, and have enabled bidirectional clipboard sharing within VirtualBox options. However, I still cannot copy and paste between the host and guest. Copy/paste works great within the host, and within the guest, but not between the two. I'm out of ideas.

  • Is putting the swapfile & temp folder to ramdisk a good idea in Windows 7 64 bit with lots of RAM?

    I want my Windows to run as fast as possible. If I have 12GB RAM in Windows 7 64bit, quad core CPU, and all apps fit in memory, will the swap file ever be used for anything? The question is about if it's a good idea to put the swap file in a RAM disk. Would a RAM disk help in any way or will Windows intelligently use all the available memory for all its work? I am also thinking of putting the temp folder on a RAM disk. I know the RAM disk is volatile memory and I don't care about its content if it gets lost.

  • Problem with authentication of users via IE when using "host header value"

    Hi, I'm trying to set multiple web sites up in an IIS 6. I've got a working virtual site residing under the default web site, but if I create a new web site in the IIS and asign it a host header value, let it point to the very same file structure as in the prevoiusly mentioned site and finally asign windows integrated security only to the site - I still cannot log in to the new site using MSIE 6 or 8 but FF 3.5 works fine.   • When gaming computer freezes with a blank screen and a buzzing sound

    I have a problem with random freezes when playing games. Sometimes it's fine for hours, other times it dosn't last even one. I tried googling around and I found recomendations to update my graphics drivers and to test for overheating. The graphics drivers haven't helped worked and Furmark created a consistant heat higher than I get during a crash. I even tried running a game using the Linux dual boot and WINE, that crashed too. Here are the tempreture logs leading up to the latest crash. The GPU dosn't hit 80, and I've hit 90 with no crash on firmark.   • Wikimedia Commons not working properly from IE 8

    It happens fairly often that a page on Wikimedia Commons doesn't load in IE. This happens to me on both machines I use, each one Windows 7 with IE 8. The page just loads endlessly (or connects—can't really tell) and timeouts after a while. Repeated attempts (trying to load the same page in 5 to 10 tabs) sometimes work, but sometimes it takes a lot more tries. As far as I can tell, no other program is affected—Firefox or PowerShell have no trouble loading the page. Also, when I use Fiddler it seems to load fine on the first try as well. Anyone has an idea what might be going on? I didn't change any settings that I am aware of (and most likely didn't do so in the same way on both machines). Preemptive note: I don't need advice in the form of »Use another browser instead.«.

  • ubuntu eth0 not reconnecting after cable unplugged

    I'm running kubuntu 9.10 w/ gnome, I have a static IP defined in /etc/network/interfaces When I unplugged my network cable and rebooted, then reconnected the network cable I was not able to connect. I tried using sudo ifup eth0, and then ifconfig and it seemed as though the IP address had been assigned and I was connected, but I wasn't. I then did ifdown eth0, and again ifup eth0. For some reason I'm not able to access the network. Furthermore, I also attempted to connect via wlan, and was able to connect to the wireless network, but cannot "see" the network. I can't transfer data or access the internet or anything on the network including the router.   • CIFS mounted drive setting "stick-bit" on all files, cannot change permissions or modify files

    I have a folder mounted on an Ubuntu 8.10 sever through cifs that I simply cannot change the permissions on once mounted. Here is a breakdown of what's going on: All files within the mounted folder automatically have their permissions set to -rwxrwSrwx regardless of whether the file is create on the windows server or on the linux machine. I have the same directory mounted on two other linux servers (both running 9.10 instead of 8.10) with no problems at all. They all are using the same fstab options and the same credentials. //server/folder /media/backups cifs credentials=/etc/samba/.arcadia_cred,noexec,noserverino 0 0 I've I run a chmod command a million different ways, all of which report successfully changing the permissions. However it doesn't. The issue began after I updated from 8.04 to 8.10 Any idea why this may be happening on one machine? Since it started after an upgrade I'm not sure what is the bes thing to do. Any help you could give would great! None of my automated backup scripts are working because of this!

For example: Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen will be released only 5-6 months down the lane. The Reader, I think will not be released at all.     I have a rather strange issue with my netbook on my local network. When trying to connect to it in any way from a remote system it does not appear to find it. However if I get the netbook to ping the machine trying to connect it mystically appears to work. Below is the ping test from my main PC to the netbook.   • How do I make h.264 work on YouTube on Firefox on Windows 7 64 bit?

    Various news articles state that Firefox supports h.264 on Windows since version 20. As of this writing the version is 24, yet Firefox still can't play most YouTube videos. I did the HTML5 opt-in and tested both Firefox and Nightly. I also made sure media.windows-media-foundation.enabled in about:config is enabled, and it is by default both on Firefox and Nightly. What's wrong and how do I fix it? Edit: This video works. This video fails. They're both MP4 (right click video - stats for nerds), so Firefox's h.264 support works at least some of the time.   • win7 64 bit. Fresh install on fresh pc fails with BSOD.

    Hello, I've built a new machine: ASUS M4A785TD-V EVO OCZ DDR3 PC3-12800 (2x 2gb) Amd Athlon II X4 630 Box AM3 I tried memtest with hiren boot cd (tested only 3gb) and showed no error. Then I tried the built in ram test from the win7 cd (2 passes no errors). I also deleted with a 0 pass the hard drive. The error I get is this: 0x0000007e (0xFFFFFFFFFC0000005,0xFFFFF8000C1AB0F3,0xFFFFF880009A8498,0xFFFFF880009A7CF0) Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

  • Can't ping self

    I have a wireless internet connection setup on my Mac. (v10.5.6) Am connected to the internet and everything is running smoothly. I recently discovered a quirky behaviour while setting up apache web server. When i typed in my dynamic ip (http://117.254.149.11/) in the webbrowser to visit my site pages it just timed out. In terminal i tried pinging localhost and it worked. $ ping localhost PING localhost (127.0.0.1): 56 data bytes 64 bytes from 127.0.0.1: icmp_seq=0 ttl=64 time=0.063 ms 64 bytes from 127.0.0.1: icmp_seq=1 ttl=64 time=0.056 ms 64 bytes from 127.0.0.1: icmp_seq=2 ttl=64 time=0.044 ms But if i pinged my ip it would just time out. $ ping 117.254.149.11 PING 117.254.149.11 (117.254.149.11): 56 data bytes ^C --- 117.254.149.11 ping statistics --- 10 packets transmitted, 0 packets received, 100% packet loss Pinging any other site works though. I am completely stumped. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • TeamViewer: How to disable color dithering for low-bit-depth screen settings

    I am using Terminal Services and TeamViewer a lot to access other computers, partly over slow networks. The problem described below is not affected by which of the two remote access services I am using. When accessing Windows 7 Professional machines, a great deal of text is hard to read as the background is dithered. Even for exactly the same colors, Windows 2003 does not seem to dither at all, but to choose the closest available color. I strongly prefer the latter, as I don't care for the exact colors, I just want to be able to read easily. I am not sure whether this is operating system-related. The programs on the remote systems do not allow me to change the color choices for the various backgrounds to anything sane. Is there a way to disable this color dithering using some target operating system setting that will do the trick for both Terminal Services and TeamViewer?

  • IE Behaviors in my system

    When i type some Url say www.google.com in IE (installed and tested with IE 6.0/7.0/8.0) at first attempt it does not recognize that URL when i type it second time.It goes to the page. But when i test it in other browsers like firefox ,Chrome without problem it is working. I scanned my system with Norton and Kasper sky,they do not complaint about any virus.I am using Windows XP Service pack 2. Does my system get affected with something say doubleclick virus?

  • Anyone know how to get dual screens working on a Dell E6410 laptop with Ubuntu 10.04 64 bit?

    I've installed the drivers from nVidia. When I go into the NVIDIA X Server Settings application, in the X Server Display Configuration setcion, and click the "Configure" button, "TwinView" is disabled. Also, clicking "Detect Displays" doesn't pick up my monitor (which is connected through a port replicator - keyboard and mouse in that port replicator work fine). Has anyone else seen this? Is this just a limitation of the current nvidia linux drivers?
